tyleer: Visa Delayed May16th
Walter Carrington Lagos Consulate. 7am School: Grand valley state university. (No funding)
Me: Good morning (with a smile) VO: Pass me your Docs please! (While standing) Me: passed I20 and passport VO: You were denied last year? Why apply again?? Me: I got a study leave approval at work VO: When did u complete undergraduate studies? ( Obviously looking at my ds160 on his system) Me 2014 VO: afterwards? Me: I observed my compulsory National youth Service at bla bla bla VO: afterwards? Me: I gained employment to work with *** Cinemas ltd in 2017 as an account officer. VO: *Nods his bald head* so you're going for Msc Accounting? Me: yes VO: I can see you're paying some money? Me: My dad will sponsor my program VO: What does he do Me: He is a senior Manager at Zenith bank and also invests in real estate (at this point I was expecting him to at least collect my dad's statement) VO: Started romancing my passport front n back and eventually returns it with my I20 *you still do not qualify* Me: Thanks.
He forgot to give me the yellow paper. I got outside even d security me laff say Baba dem no even give u any paper . Some said I shouldn't have booked 7am that the stuff is quota based bla bla bla. I need corrections if I was at fault and if it's due to no funding, ild take my time and refire! Thanks for sharing this. Takes a lot of courage, these are my observations. 1) Why were you denied last year? 2) You know.. It is expected that a tremendous improvement should have been made from the last time of interview.. That was why the VO threw that question to you..(You've been denied last year, why apply again?) It is a different way of saying ( What have changed since your last application) . . Your response was not impressive at all. And first impression matters..how well you answer your first question will determine how the conversation flows. You can say things like..' I am more confident and well informed now' and that serves as a rebuttal. I mean by this time you should anticipate the questions.. When did you finish your NYSC, AFTERWARDS? That's same way of asking.. What have you been doing since you finished NYSC. He gave you another chance to sell yourself and you didn't take that chance. You should keep talking because it is expected you have loads of experience to share.. You know... There are lots of ways to make the VO ask you q question you want them to ask you. You take them towards the direction you want them to get to. Please post your transcript before refiring .. You need to be almost perfect in your responses at your next interview. Age doesn't mean anything for Masters and Phd..so at 30 ,35 or 40 you can decide it's time to advance your degree. That's why it's called career plan. |

tyleer: Haba, the VO clearly stated desperation as his reason for denial. I was also interviewed on May 16th by the Old white VO, these interviews are subjective, he was just acting angry on the said date, maybe I should let you know that all through my interview, he was standing and rushing everything, he only asked me profile based questions like when did I graduate and what I have been doing, which I answered well, the next thing was to return my I20 and passport, he even forgot to give me the yellow paper, to show you how ruthless he was. I'm not saying you're wrong, but in this particular case I don't think the research issue earned him a deniaI. I have friends who flopped during their interview but were still approved cos of "full funding." Your advice should be noted buh it doesn't guarantee approval You for drop your own transcript too na |

kidUrbane: Hi everyone, @Twoods, welcome back! It’s clear how people missed your very informative inputs on this thread.. However, I would like to pass some friendly reminders. They are mostly life lessons. 1. When you choose to make contributions, please learn to apply more empathy. Most of the time, your comments, advise, suggestions reeks of prejudice and preformed opinions. You assume all Nigerians are crooks. No, we aren’t. It might disgust you to live with the fact that you were originally a citizen of this great country. 2. When people get their visas and they claim it was God who gave them. I think it’ll be best you stay out of it. When you claim Americans or Germans or Chinese or Irish people don’t pray to be issued a visa you need to understand that they pray about other things. We don’t all have to have the same prayer requests do we? If they pray for good health and I pray for a successful visa outcome does it really matter? Live and let live. 3. Third, I discovered that Johnolukay raised a very important fact and you need to check it.Your ‘tone’. Honestly, watch it bro. There’s life beyond Nairaland Visa Thread that people constantly have been dealing with. Getting a visa isn’t a do or die affair. You lack an understanding of how communication works, you clearly do not understand emotional intelligence. You are notorious and acclaimed as someone who passes good information in a harsh way. I think you hate that you come from this country so much. To those applauding you for always coming out harsh, I am not sorry to say but you all are just a** lickers. I have been a memeber of this thread for more than 8 years now, good people have come, left a lasting mark, imparted lives without having to be rude or harsh. Honestly, I don’t find you to be a pleasant person because what you say is ultimately a reflection of who you are. Pass your message in the calmest, unassuming way possible. Character is everything. Lastly, where is bracelum. I used to assume he is the new Twoods, but comparing your comments and delivery now. He’s a lesser evil. I said what I said, that’s my opinion. I’ll tell you the same thing I told him. This thread was awesome without you. We need kind people who talk like they have an understanding of how life works. Not humans who like to be perceived as angels. Good luck. You made lots of sense until you started using vague words. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and you shouldn't call anyone an ass licker . Not right ! |

Haryor3: Visa approved this morning in Lagos. Going to RIT for a masters program.
Had a deficit of 51k after 30% tuition waiver and it was still approved. So.. It’s not just fully funded people that are getting approved.
Should share a transcript later. See my brother there's no better time to say what you just said. The VO will have a hard time giving denial if you convince them you meet the non-immigrant requirements. Congrats pls drop your success story. |

In other words, Let's learn to shape ourselves from the errors of the past.
Some people are just desperate and will never go to school if given the Visa.
You tell some people that their choice of school is not ideal and they say it is just a way to leave Nigeria and nothing else!
Let's make ourselves more respected in the best way we can. Try to take the GRE or other standardised test even if your school doesn't need it. Take ample time to do a lot of research on your course and schools with potential funding. Don't be unnecessarily desperate!
As much as possible avoid agents.. Do it yourself and master the process.
You can tell Visa approval will make a rapid increase if we decide to do our home work properly.
Let's make things easier for our children unborn or the ones coming after us. |

TWoods: The sentences in highlights are confusing to me. In one breath you say fraud is discouraged, but then admit that it is ok to commit fraud as our only chance at obtaining a US visa?
Perhaps that is why things never change for us? Because too many of us are ok with the end justifying the means... we are ok with fraud as long as it benefits us. Yet we complain that we are treated with suspicion at embassies around the world.
The US education is not designed for the rich, it is designed for Americans. Nigerians should design an education system that is affordable to its citizens. Oh wait, we can't! We've dishonestly stolen the money... all in the name of gawd of course.
[If there is one thing i am genuinely thankful to God for, it is not having to raise my children in a zoo where it is ok to lie with impunity. You should also be thankful to God for something else. But I wouldn't be the one to point that out. I got your message loud and clear. You make some very valid point. And truth be told, this is the reason why Visa approval is most difficult in Nigeria compared to other countries . Well.. |

TWoods: Because those words are definitely true. His brother and friend are not going to give him that money if he should need it to for living expenses. He is making the claim that this is money available to him for his exclusive use while residing in the US... but we all know that is false.
When the embassy asks for a SOA, they are not saying show us all the money that everyone you know has, they are asking specifically for money set aside for the purpose for which you seek a visa. We all know... yet we continue to lie and cover for the outright dishonesty of our fellow Nigerians. All i see are people excusing fraud... while claiming "god", "grace" and other pseudo-religious psychobabble. I have yet to find anyone, other than a Nigerian, praying for a visa to anywhere. Little wonder we can't even be offered the dignity of the drop-box application anymore. Shame.
US institutions are typically very thorough. When they send you and admission letter, it comes with detailed information to assist the international student seamlessly adapt to life in the US. That includes information on available housing, estimates of living expenses - some even go the extra mile to provide you maps and useful information on the town you will be residing. If at this point you have not used that information to have a rough idea where you will be staying before applying for a DS160, i am obliged to conclude that indeed you are lazy and unserious. The US education is very expensive and hardly affordable without funding or statements. You sound like you came from a wealthy background. Kudos to you! The US education is basically designed for the rich and for years, only politicians and other blood suckers had their children schooling over there. Fraud is highly discouraged, but SOA is the only fighting chance for Nigerians without sufficient funding. And not everyone have parents that can cough out as little as N1m. |

TWoods: You're not a serious student. If you were, the questions you're asking would have been answered long before you filled your DS160. I am also disgusted... you're seeking "favor and grace" while actively lying on your form. At this point, you should have liaised with your school to determine where you will reside during your time there. Typically, US programs help out international students by sending them information on available student housing, costs and other living expenses to give you an idea of how much money you will need in total. Why are you asking the forum to provide an address for you?
Your brother and your family friend's money is not available to you. You are only using their proof of funds to lie your way into obtaining a visa. l Lol This statement of yours is one-sided. Plans for accommodation can be made after Visa approval and that's totally normal. That doesn't insinuate being lackadaisical. Wait! Why would you say those words in bold? Like why would you say those words? |

amb001: This... VO will likely have a hard time believing if the sum is huge. You cannot expect a godfather to fund you with 20k dols . You will need a miracle to convince anyone. Godfathers taking care of 2m is a bit understandable. But no rule is cut in Stone. How well you play your cards. |
