You are most welcome, I think different states has their different strategies towards handling things owing to the pandemic. But my wife call Socials Security directly, they provided us with the number for our Province. But you can check the Local office and see if a number was actually pasted on their door. I will however suggest you apply for your SSN through the i-765. you can reach me via email using my handle here @gmail.com.

Hey brownesugar,

Yes, the social security office is opened now,but by APPOINTMENT ONLY I think, go to the nearest social security office near you, if you don't intend applying for it through your form i765. We called the local office customer care number here in Virginia and was able to fix an appointment for the next day. Now the thing is, I arrived here March 20th, but could not apply for my Socials until after over 2months owing to the pandemic. By the time I was able to book an appointment, according to USCIS represantative, my status automatically changed from k-1 to work authorization because i was approaching the due date of my legal stay in the US. While filling the form i765, there is a section where you can apply for your socials,if you do not have or haven't applied yet, so that was what I did and luckily, I got my socials a week after submitting my documents to USCIS lockbox.

Lastly, I did not evaluate my result from Nigeria and did not submit my transcript. I only submitted a copy of my original school certificates; Secondary school and University. I submitted these because of the form i944 that i filled, which is the new form that was introduced. Cheers.

Hello everyone,

I hope you all are doing fine wherever you are? There hasn't been much of an update owing to this COVID-19.

However, today i want to update you all on my AOS progress. Unfortunately, I and my fiancee couldn't get married until couple of days ago,even though I have been in the US since the 20th of March. This is because she has been away on deployment all this while. Two weeks after I got here, I tried applying for my Socials, but wasn't able to, as their office was closed due to the pandemic.

We eventually were able to fix an appointment a day after my wedding to get my socials and have my wife change her name. My wife's change of name was successful, but I wasn't able to get my socials because according to the officer, there was a mismatch on my immigration status as it changed from "K-1" to "Temporary Employment/Non-Immigrant Temporary Employment Authorized". So please, for those coming to the states soon, do not wait for too long before applying for your socials, else you will have to apply through the form i-765 like i did.

I just shipped off my application to USCIS recently and keeping my fingers crossed for a positive response. Make sure to bring all your school qualifications that you have for the new form i-944. That form is a bit sensitive and complex. More updates will be given as time goes by.

hi discenma please is the social security office opened now?am in the midwest got married march 11th few days before the govt offices was shut down due to the pandemic going on SS office inclusive,my wedding license came 3days after their office hence i couldnt register/get SSN,called their ciustomer service but she said cos am new and this is first time that i have to come to their office for finger prints and fill necessary but they hve close that ve to wait till their opened (this was in march),which state are you and how were u able to fix appointment for your socials?pls kindly shed more light on it /i765 form,then your k1 status changing to temporary employment/non immigrant temp employ authorized got my confused..would await your response,lastly did you evaluate your degree from nigeria,i mean was ur transcript included amongs the document to USCIS for AOS?

Thanks for the reply, we had our wedding in the church, but we both got the marriage license from the court and hand it over to the priest before the wedding day. We got the original marriage license after the wedding from court. I guess we will have to visit the court when this pandemic is over. Thanks

@janet200 some people dont in this county&some do but for me in order not to raise the immi eye brows better one does change of name (my opinion tho) to change your name pls go to the county clerk where you guys registered for the court wedding before going to pick a available date,they will direct on how to do it/documents that lld be needed ,but u can start the process once the court has sent your marriage license back to you guys usually 5/7 business working days cos the document lld be needed.
You would still need to wait till after this covid-19 saga before you can do all stated above as all offices are closed right now.. cheers..#staysafe

My own lil knowledge about it cos i did my medicals @qlife dec 2019,If you had your test @qlife they would hve sent your results to the embassy before your interview date ,on getting to the embassy they ll do a confirmation of your test result before the CO calls you,however qlife will give u a date to come for collection of your the card ,CD&a white sheet which carrys a scan copy of your passport photo (the CD which includes your xray results and co)you would be advised to travel with those documents too along with your sealed pack as its important too(as it includes your med reports incase some POE immigration officers want to misbehave and u ll need it too when adjusting status....

Thats my issue, My Fiancee got a mail it should have been transferred to Lagos about 3 weeks ago.
But Lagos as not sent any Notification. When I call the Customer care at the Consulate, They Only say wait.

And I think there is an expiration on the Mail sent to my fiancee...On NVC site there is no notification after I filled Out the DS-160 form.

And I do not know, if I should go ahead and just pay the Visa Fees.

Wait for them my brother by the 4th week max they lld mail your fiancee that they are ready to process then you can pay for visa fee&co,so mine too didnt come on time then lagos embassy can so keep someone on hold sure they have back log of work (one thing US govt teaches one is patience,even continuation when here too requires patience)worry not since NVC says its ready/in lagos they ll surely mail you its their kaya they must carry it..lolzzz ...dont worry bro it ll surely come just pray along.... cheers

Once NVC status says ready/petition is already in lagos,They wont send directly to you but will send a message to your petitioner about
you saying they are ready to process the final leg of it here and send directions that u should proceed to schedule a date for interview.

According to WES don't know of other evaluating body accept but for WES You can come with it as long as its addressed to them with your reference num(a unique number given to you after making evaluation payment to WES) which must be on the envelope(school envelope)and correspondence but it must not be tampered with or having any traces of it..
After receiving it WES would still contact them to know if it was prepared&sent via them..

Actually, according to the USCIS instructions for filling the I-944 form, evaluation of any foreign education should be included in the application..... Not WES specifically...

@treasureprince1 find below the attachments of my medical fee at qlife as @dec 2019,pls note the price on the internet is not updated except they have recently done that tho,the updated list is attached below,however i ended up paying this amount for medicals cos two shots werent available then so was advise i could take here or so.. i ended paying sixty something thousand&23,125 making a total of 84,625 think its due to the unavailable shot,pls go with your atm for your transactions,to be on safer side go with the amount on the list herewith sure you will come back with some change,pls visit www.qlifemedicals.com to book your appointment before going but payment validate appointment, suggest you make payment there via bank transfer &they confirm it for you,heard no need to go with your passport photo again that they ll take you themselves think you should go with it still incase ...my opinion tho..

You can google it my brother,my hubby wants to file my adjustment of status and he learnt that result evaluation from WES alongside marriage certificate here is amongst compulsory docs before u can file adjustment of status .for WES to do a evaluation they need a copy of your result alongside transcripts from the sch u finished from amongst others..they just started this a week ago .
