I have watched with rapt attention and absolute dismay these past few weeks, the theatrics, as they play out in Nigerian football. What has happened recently only goes to show that, as a Nation we are yet to really understand and accept the fact that the most important office in the country is that of the citizen.

In the last two weeks or so, lovers of football in this country have been made the pawns in a game of chess. In 2003 Nigeria was the host of the All African Games; that tournament till date has remained an issue of controversy after huge amounts of tax payers’ money was expended without recourse to the tenets of accountability to citizens who are supposed to be the most revered in any civilized clime.

Mr. Amos Adamu who was in-charge has continued to act like he owes no one an explanation. It is however, understandable Mr. President’s (Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua) hesitation about going ahead with hosting the Under-17 world cup, the right of which Nigeria fought for and won, yet with tax payer’s money, after the LOC, constituting the same shylocks who run the country aground during the hosting of the All African Games, presented a budget of a whooping N37 billion for the event.

It pains me to note that in the year 2008, when other countries are working tirelessly to improve the lot of the youth, we still have people whose major interest in sports development is self aggrandizement. The importance of sports in a society can not be over emphasized and sometimes I really get bored with the monotony of having to talk about the same thing everyday, week, month and year. By the year 2009, we will continue to talk about these same issues to no avail. These scavengers are shamelessly the same people who go on TV to criticize and question Nigerians’ dedication to foreign leagues attributing it to lack of patriotism. They really think Nigerians are fools. Even if we were, I think we know the difference between good and bad-even a five year old does.

Sports development has little to do with the fans. If those appointed, elected or selected to run our football are inept and bereft of ideas or bent on grabbing as much money as they can within the period he/she is in office, I don’t think there is anything a fan can do about that. I challenge our sports administrators today to develop our league and see if the fans wouldn’t come running down to watch matches. Back to the Under-17 world cup billed for Nigeria in 2009. Agreed that the LOC over killed it with that budget, the president’s attitude is what I wish to analyze here.

Let’s take it one by one. Haba! Mr. President, are you so insensitive to the plight of Nigerian football fans? Do you know how much money a country makes hosting international sports events? I am particularly surprised (despite the fact the decision has since been rescinded) that though this administration’s lethargy has failed to provide employment for the youth of this country, it was about to throw away the only opportunity it has to achieve that to some extent. I am not about to talk about how much money cooperate Nigeria can make from the influx of visitors, what the hospitality industry stand to gain, the TV and radio stations on commercials, the aviation industry considering the influx of foreigners coming in and those who may have to shuffle from one venue to another and all those big wigs in circulation. Let’s take a look at what a simple sector that affects the common man on the street stands to loose.

Millions of Nigerians have chosen to take their own destinies into their hands and have adopted a means of livelihood that has not just been enough to feed them, but clothe and even pay school fees and other basic needs- the ‘pure water’ sellers! President Yar’Adua does not need an adviser to know that sellers of pure water can change their lives for the better in just this one swop as this is neither rocket science nor brain surgery. While I do not want to sound like I am in support of reckless spending in government, it is worthy to note that no amount of money is too much to spend on a venture that promises to better the lives of Nigerians. Apart from the fact that these resources belong 100% to the people, government officials should understand that we are the only reason they should be in office at all. So what’s my point? The president did well to have pointed out that amount earmarked was outrageous but it shows total disregard to have to make Nigerians beg him to dialogue with the LOC in order to come to a common ground.

The president should be presidential enough to know that negotiations can achieve everything. He should have for the sake of Nigerians who have already spent millions to expand their businesses in preparation for the event, which in the process will employ more hands to help them out during this period, done us the favour of negotiating on our behalf. If a president gets so irritated that the plight of Nigerians becomes secondary, let me say here that such attitude is unacceptable by Nigerians.

The government owes Nigerians the obligation to provide jobs, good roads, clean water, housing and education. So far, I do not think this government has shown any desire to achieve any of this and that first decision not to host the Under-17 world Cup was an affront on the youth of this country. Government should note that N37 billion or N9 billion makes no economic sense to the ‘pure water’ seller whose major concern is to stay alive with the N10 profit from sales of one bag of sachet water.

What I have read on this forum feels my eyes with tears. It is the danger of being born in an illiterate country like Nigeria.

You see, A friend once said the worst thing that can happen to any human apart from being a Nigerian, Is being a Nigerian doctor. What i have read on this forum seems to have vindicated my friend.

How can a people be so myopic? The fact that a few of us have an IQ slightly higher than that of the average guy isn't our making and we shouldn't be made to pay dearly for it. And i must say that many who end up doctors never planned to be one but are only victims of their extraordinary academic abilities.

From the first day you came top of the class your parents will dedicate you to this "humanitarian professional" Medicine.
'my son, you are so intelligent. You will be a doctor'. Unfortunately that is usually the best kind of career counseling people get just before they get into medical school. By the time they realize what they are in for, it's already late to pull out.

Since no one thinks doctors deserve anything in this country, i think it will make a lot of sense, if students are exposed to proper career counseling, so that only those who are ready be commando doctors opt for it.

As a doctor, i know that our problem is from no where else but from doctors. Yes there are doctors who earn as much as N200,000 but that is like saying you know of a banker who earns N500,000 without actually attempting to know his position and how many years he's been in the practice.

This is the reality. We doctors all know that those of us in Nigeria are the worst paid in the world and whether anyone likes it or not, it is going to remain like that for decades to come because Nigerians are too ignorant to understand the importance of their own health. And i believe doctors have resolved to take whatever shit comes their way as long as they remain in this country.

I graduated in 2006 and during my housemanship, i was earning well above N110,000 at atime.
Then suddenly i am now doing my youth service and i am suddenly being paid Less than N20,000. I am not complaining because prior to my deployment, i knew this was national service.

But the truth is that my classmate who has finished NYSC is having the most dificult time on earth. It the society wasn't being deceived to believe doctors are earning millions his life could have been a lot easier but,  He is now the one everyone in the fanily runs to for all sorts of financial assistance. Afterall is he not a doctor?

My friend now earns N40,000 and he has to keep two jobs with the second job paying N30,000 and he works total 13 hrs everyday in private clinics. For me i don't think this is why i spent 7 years plus strike, 1 year housemanship and 1 year NYSC. To be sincere even if i were the pope, i think i have a right to complain. Our educational system is where it is today because some people think Teachers should work for free and go to heaven for their reward after death.
So doctors are on service for humanity, but should they starve?

The only reason why i have decided to remain in Nigeria is simple. I don't currently and don't plan to depend on medical practice for my survival. God has helped me and while I was still a student a acquired this web developemnt skill. Only one job got me well over N500,000. This is a pay none of my colleges have ever earned. They will only be in the range of earning N300,000 salary in about 7 years from now when and if they become consultants. I even hear govt at a time was planning to make resident doctors pay for their training than be paid by govt as there were still under training. Very wise!

Unfortunately the teaching hospitals and general hospitals do not have space for all of us. So some doctors have to work in private hospitals and more unfortunately this is a sector of our economy where govt pays higher than the private sector.

Soon this country will be left bare without doctors. It still wouldn't be a problem to the govt because, they can always fly abroad. So those who can not will be the endangered species. I wonder what you guys need to understand that this is a quest in futility. Just like the last poster said, the banks are bot ready to do anything. They keep calling themselves world class yet their services are contrary to what they claim to be. It is not just by the size of your balance sheet.
If they were worth what they claim, they should know that it is even an insult for their cards to be rejected and Mastercards does nothing about it.
If we can not use them to make purchases online, then what are these cards for?

Permit me to be real with you: A pity-party won't solve the problem here because I can see the way you've been lapping up all the kind-hearted responses on the site. Don't pity yourself at all because self-pity cripples will-power and leads to depression.

Please note that nobody's situation is peculiar on this earth, we all have challenges and how we choose to solve them says a lot about who we are and are likely to become. I wonder if you have a burning dream or desire within you, if you do, do you have a road-map to get you there? I honestly don't think that your greatest dream should be getting a job. Jobs are about problem solving and solution provision. And you haven't clearly demonstrated a mastery of that even in your own life situation.

Your problem is that of self-development. Do you read? Is your mind a rich reservoir of knowledge? Buy books and read.
What is on the inside eventually shows on the outside.

Lastly, whatever your hands find to do, do it with all thy might. Work keeps the mind in top form. Also search your environment, whatever touches on your passion could be where your destiny lies.

A lot of people won't like what you have said. You know why? People seem to think all they need to do is sit down at home and believe in God and the manner will come looking for them.

The truth remains that God will only give you what you deserve because he's not a partial God. Sometimes things happen to us and we are like Waoh! God is so merciful but he knows you can cope with the blessing he's sending your way before he gives it to you. God never makes mistakes.

Like they say, Luck and favour is preparation meeting opportunity. The right Job could come but if you ain't prepared, it will go somewhere else.
What you need to make it in this life is a strong will to succeed. In order words "faith". People don't know that faith is practical. You don't just say i believe and it happens. You have to find your self taking steps that you believe you are the right man for the job.
How do you show that?
You need knowledge and that bring us back to Reading, Read everything you can lay your hands on.
See when you were in school, you used to read just to pass exams. Unfortunately the Nigerian Education system dose not prepare us for real life survival but just to pass exams.

The point i will like to make here is that, the education that you need to make it in life starts after school.
If you always make the aptitute test but fail in the interviews, it means you are good enough to pass those exams but probably lack something they need in employable individuals.

The practical way to believe in God here is to ask God to show you that thing that you lack, so that you can work on it. You can do it. The natural thing is to blame government for you woes. But the earlier you start looking for the cause of your own failure within you, the better for you.

I Guess what i meant to say was PHCN prepaid units, since i was not aware PHCN now allows commercial dealership of it's prepaid Units.
That does not mean i have no idea of what i want.To better put it, I have not done it before.
I really appreciate your idea of what the database should look like. To put it more clearly, what i am really interested in knowing is the Money side of it. What will it cost to strike this deals with the various parties involved?
I want to know:
1. Like the Recharge card thing, will i have to purchase recharge cards and upload the PINs to my database, or can i have a deal with the dealers to make such PINs available for me to vend online. In other words, make some payment as security deposits but actually have access to recharge cards far above the amount deposited.

Same for the PHCN Units and NSL tickets. I want to know if anyone knows exactly what needs to be done. Not whether someone knows how it should be done.

I am willing to work with you on this if i can get an answer that's a solutions. Thanks for all your contributions so far.
