no matter where the world reach u better belief Northern Nigeria is at this level, this is no different with almajiri . am not in anyway saying this is right but parent fully aware and willingly took their Wards then what's d fault of the owner? kids are born in bundles and 50% are treated as trash in the north . take it or leave it

Once you agree that it isn't right and should not be justified, then we are good.
Just as an addition, I live in the core North and I understand the situation on ground. Regardless of their situation, there's no justification for this

all these ppl are being taken their by their immediate family
most of them are stubborn kids or addicts, the owner is not at any fault
he built the place and has coaches/councillors and desplìnary leads
they bath eat and learn hand work
they are punished if found with offence
parents do come for visits,

what is this news saying?

It's strange that one would try to justify this as a correctional facility. The world has moved far ahead of this.

Would you say the same, if they were taken by their immediate families to a herbalist, who chains them just as in the pictures, while claiming to have coaches etc. ?

HerCuteness:
I particularly learned a lot from this, this , this, this and Google. I would encourage you to do your own exploration and learn, pray about and consider the purpose and importance of tithing.
But what gets me about your question is the word
instead . Maybe I’m splitting hairs, but I get a vibe that you don’t see the value in your church getting your money. You’re not asking about splitting 10 percent between your church and a charity, you said instead .
So for learning purposes, let’s shelve the whole tithing, biblical mandate thing and, for now, treat your particular church as another charity. Let’s think about some big-picture questions that people tend to ask when deciding if they’re going to lend support to a person or institution:
1. Do I believe in the mission?
I’m guessing that if you go to an evangelical church in America, they have the mission/vision/purpose statement plastered everywhere. It’s probably a lot of single buzz-words with periods after each word. God. Real. Community. Coffee. Banjo.
No matter how they’ve branded the mission, the question remains: Do you know why your church exists? Does your church know why it exists?
2. Is the mission being accomplished?
I’m assuming you know the answer to #1, or you wouldn’t have landed there in the first place. However, it’s one thing to say we know why we exist as a church, it’s quite another to actually see that mission bearing fruit.
When you look and listen around, do you hear the stories of lives being changed? When you see what’s really being accomplished at your church, does it line up with what they’ve set out to do?
3. Would I trust them with my money?
This seems like a trite question compared to #1 and #2, but if we’re looking at the church as it compares with every other nonprofit/charity, we have to ask—are they leveraging their resources well?
Here’s how you know: they are incredibly transparent about their finances. If you’re at a place where that’s happening, you’ll be assured both from the leadership and from the evidence that your money is doing what it’s supposed to be doing: building the Kingdom.
So how’s your church doing? If any of those questions gave you pause, take a step back and prayerfully consider if this is still your community (which I hope it is) and then (if it is) dig in!
Your church needs you, in fact, your church is you. If there’s something going on that’s just not sitting right with you, be a part of fixing it.
Don’t choose instead , choose both. Because unlike a charity, you’ll never find a more important mission (see #1) than the mission of the Church (See Acts 2). Social justice and sponsoring kids is vitally important, but if the Church was really doing its job, those charities would be overwhelmed with support and eventually not need to exist.

This is very refreshing to read. It's well written and your points are well harnessed.
It's really nice to see a submission of this quality on Nairaland. Kudos to you and please, keep it up

Romance / Re: I Am Scared Of Eventually Not Getting A Life Partner. by bskyb(m): 10:00pm On Sep 22, 2019
saggitarius01:
Good evening dear Nairalanders. I'm sorry I had to create a new account to post this. I am getting really worried about how my life may turn out. I'd be straight and brief as possible so please read and give me any advice you can. Thanks.

A brief rundown about myself.

I am going to be 25 in no time, growing up I felt there is only two paths a young lady should tow...either to forget being a fashonista and all trying to be neck deep in her outlook or calm down, first things first, work hard and make money (if possible be a millionaire before 25). I choose the later and as God will have it, my dream turned a reality.
Now, while I was in this journey of not turning out to be a lady who will never be able to foot her own bills, I forgot everything about being girlie. I never what it means to have female friends or hang out with any, I don't care so much about knowing the latest party and posh places or even taking all the posh pictures like the ladies in my age bracket would. I was focused to a fault. I saved to a fault.

I might not have everything I desire but I am indeed comfortable for a young lady who made it out of the ghetto life of Igbogbo.
Now my pain..
I do most of my jobs from home and therefore I am mostly within the confines of my apartment.
No boyfriend, no fiance talk more of a husband.
I don't have any friend and I don't know to make any friend for as a result of I trying to find my feet in life, I have had, experienced, seen and heard nasty behaviours of human. I keep people at arms length. I am afraid of an average human for I believe anybody can do anything even things you don't expect of them. embarassed

I already observed that slaying and all the girlie ish is obviously not a part of me as i prefer to brainstorm and think of how to expand my business which I know an average lady my age, that is the least of her worries.
I know I need a man in my life. I don't know if it's a stereotype but I think ages 24-26 is the right age (as i have made to believe) a woman should at be at least settled Maritally. How do I go about getting a man to date and marry? Where are the places I should go to? Remember I said I have NO friends so no wedding invitations.

Am I stressing myself? But I am almost 25 and no man and truly in my hearts of hearts I know I want to be a wife someday and have a good family so need to lie about anything. Where do ladies meet their boyfriends? Not the playboys or those with pulled down shorts.
Please what do I do? What are the places to go? I tried hanging out to places for drink but you know how it feels and looks for a young lady to sit out on her own.
P.S. Yes I am not desperate but I am concerned.
Did i make a mistake by holding my life first instead of being all what the social media ladies are?
I just opened an Instagram account yesterday and still don't know how to use the app or what to do there. You can imagine the kind of lady I have become. Yes I can dress neat and combine my wears. Forget ugly, I ain't. I could do a nice make up on my face when ever I have 2 hours to spare. Never a boring fella. I just don't know how to find someone I could share all the happiness, joy and street wise advise with.
Please help me. cry cry cry I am so lonely. I only come on nairaland whenever I am bored. Enough said.
I am open to questions. Any at all.

You made the right decision. Now, don't spoil it all by putting yourself under pressure. Remain focused.

Though may be difficult for some to understand because they've been misled by enemies of progress but the fact remains that this policy is new and may be hard in Nigeria but it's the best.
The western world are using cashless policy and is even better and good for prompt transactions .
It reduces excessive spending.
Allow minimization of fiscal expenditure .
In America , the least u can withdraw on the atm a day is $400 cash.
While ur other transactions is based on cashless transfer of transactions. Though u are entitled to come the other day and withdraw again, it will not go beyond same $400.
In all, there will be no development and advancement if we still retard ourselves with the old method of doing things in Nigeria.

Most filling stations in the borderline Sokoto, Katsina, and Kebbi will die natural deaths if this border closure is sustained for a long time.

These numbers off filling stations should scare we Nigerians as they are far too much than the demands of these states.

They are mostly used for smuggling to other countries and nothing more.

It's either DPR is just waking to its responsibilities or the Ogas need monies and they need to be settled.

I completely agree with you. There are so many of them. Its also common to see large filling stations with well built duplexes within them, they have attendants , but you rarely see them sell any petroleum products.
One would wonder how they sustain their staff salary payments and why someone would complete a nice filling station with all accessories and a nice duplex to go with it, yet never really engage in the biz of selling fuel to Nigerians.

Hard and long.
March last year I applied in Lagos. Ministry of women affairs I think?
They are supposed to approve then you go to the orphanage of your choice where you probably have visited before and had a choice child. The fee ought to be in the “legal” range of 300k.

I kept following up every month until one day the lady told me they hadn’t still treated the applicants of the previous year. That I will receive a call when they get to my turn. Well that call has still not come, and I didn’t want to use connection to do an adoption. I believed if it’s the way I am to have my child, I won’t need to do connection for it.

Well I decided to do a surrogacy in the meantime and God has been faithful! I bless him for it.

Guy, I tire o. Many here still spent thousands on their MTN line within the past few days. At least acquire a different sim and use that in the meantime. Just don't support their business for now (no need to destroy your MTN sim).

Even temporary suspension of MTN line usage is difficult for most of the e-warriors and protesters out there.
I heard they burnt down an MTN office in Ibadan. They aren't even sure who owns the building. If it was rented from a Nigerian , they have successfully burnt down the sweat of another Nigerian, while MTN moves on to rent another place and probably gets insurance to pay any losses.

Importantly, a physical attack on South African biz in Nigeria would only make another wrong. Asides, those biz are insured, they will make up for their loses.
NIGERIA should explore other means of settlement.

If people are truly angry, they should boycott those biz. How many of us have dropped our MTN Sims or even stopped watching DSTV or gone to protest at their high commission?

Khaleell001:

i get your point now.
One thing you should know is there is no one rule fits all as the world exist.
Need I tell you that there are programmes the Chinese government are using to brainwash Muslims in Xinjian province albeit we can only call them out based in their laws and certain rules they follow on the international level.
And why is Saudi Arabia being singled out?
Why can't we make a level playing field if we want to argue in that manner.
What about North Korea?is anybody telling them anything?

Like I said, there's no one rule fits all in all these.

In all,I agree a country sets rules for its people they see fit, but as for the Saudis, they know what they want since it's a Muslim country unlike the West which prides itself on liberalism.

Comparing a deeply religiously and conservatively ruled society to that of liberal society is like comparing potatoes to tomatoes and they may have some what similar syllables may,but there do not taste the same way nor look the same.

I rest my case.

Certainly there's no one rule that fits all, but -what is fair is fair anywhere in the world.

This discussion is not about how the Chinese or other governments brainwash their people (brainwashing occurs practically everywhere in the world, anyway). This discussion is about fairness. Burning people at the stake because they say something contrary to ones beliefs is wrong, no matter where we view it from. (Such was done some centuries ago in Europe.). Similarly, preventing people from worshipping whom/what they wish to worship is wrong.

Just imagine that traditional worshippers are the majority in Nigeria and they insist that anyone with contrary beliefs should be hung by the neck. Would that be fair.?

Saudi is not being singled out, it's just a prime illustration of my point.

As per comparison of liberal and conservative societies, the first thing about those societies is that they are composed of humans and not robots. These humans have a will and preferences. They should not be forced to do what others think is right for them. As I said earlier, if God wanted the world to be homogeneous religion-wise , he wouldn't need mere mortals like us to do it for him.
We call him the all powerful, the all sufficient, yet we think we should interprete and enforce his rules for him.

Lastly, since you believe that a state/govt should make rules and it should be followed without regard for individual differences, would you then agree that Israel is doing the right thing in Gaza ? Afterall, they made the rules and they must be followed. Would you support what the Soviet Union did? Would you support the criminalisation of religion as was once done in USSR?
Would you turn a blind eye to the plight of the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar? Or would you empathise with them instead?.

I would love to.
Can you repost again?

From what you wrote, whatever a country decides do do should be accepted by all those who decide to live in such a country.
This means that , in countries with a balance-tilting majority in one faith, those with such a majority can make rules that everyone has to follow.
A present example is the issue of Rhohigya Muslims in Myanmar. The Muslims are mostly migrants who came in over the decades. Now, the Buddhists are making the rules and they want everyone to abide by it or ship out. Do you think that's fair?
If you don't, then your premise that everyone should follow whatevers rules a country makes might have K-leg.
In summary, every country should respect human rights. No one should teleguide what others do in a forceful manner. If God (the almighty) has decided not to make everyone of a single religion, why should you (a mortal) try to do so by muzzling human rights?

There's a saying I love - and that is that, most of us are in the religion we practice by birth, and remember that we don't choose our parents. Therefore, we had little choice in it. Very few people will convert to another religion in their lifetimes.

Based on this, tolerance is what we need. If I want to worship my God , allow me to. The way you believe that there's no other way than yours is the same way others believe that theirs is the only way

Every country has its own rules and regulations.
If Europe decides that no one should put on scarves or anything, but walk naked then no Muslim should be seen there since the law does not suit them similarly you will find such laws in those countries that prevent the things you outlined.

The point here is, liberalism which is being promoted by the western world is all about choice. And my choice to do certain things as far it does not go contrary to the laws is well protected.
And I don't see what's all the fuss about?
Except you are telling me liberalism to you means, I must do what you do and choose what you choose which will be very hypocritical.

It's a matter of choice.

If I decide not to drive a car but walk it's my choice.

If I decide to wear agbada it's my choice.

You can't castigate me because I choose to be different when I'm not breaking any law.

who does that?

Great.
So, I deduce from what you have written that you would not be offended if the western countries make a law to proscribe the Hijab, any form of worship apart from Christianity, observing the Ramadan etc. , So long as there is a law made by them against it.

If I am right with my assertion and that is your position, then, I would like to know your position on the rights of Muslims to protest against established norms in this countries for the inclusion of Islamic practices in their everyday lives.

Also, if your position is as I postulated, it means that you don't support protests against such laws , since they are laws of that land and every inhabitant should abide by it or ship out. (It's certain that no man would protest against the Saudi government asking that Christian religious knowledge should be promoted in their schools among other things: Such a person would be lucky to escape with his head on his neck).

Therefore, when such protests by Muslims are made, I hope I can assume that you do not support them.

Like what?

Okay, I will cite some examples.
1) Having their own places of worship
2) being forbidden from eating or drinking publicly during the month of Ramadan
3) Public practice of any other form of religion apart from Islam
4) women walking freely without having to wear an Abaya and head scarf
5) Eating or importing pork
There are others, but I will stop at this.

Note, that all the above restricts the choices that others have .

Hello bro,
I would just like to know why many Islamic countries are not so tolerant to other faiths. For example, the Zoroastians (hope i got the spelling) in Iran are heavily persecuted, there is no reciprocal tolerance for christianity in Saudi and in fact practically any other Islamic country.

I have no issues with their decision not to shake hands with the prince, its their choice. The problem is that other people's choices are usually not respected in most muslim countries.

I look forward to having a civil conversation with you.

However, seizing the laptops is overhanded. Now, they will succeed in delaying other people from boarding their own flights, thereby making the situation worse for everyone.
The summary is that if everyone seizes computers then, no flights will leave that day and that is worse than cancelling only one flight.

Third, none of us alive today was there when the events recorded in the Bible or quoran or any other holy book was written. Yet, each side hold on to that belief that theirs is the right version.

May God help us

Madam stop being sentimental and brainwashed undecided when I say all, I repeat it again ALL DISGUSTING NIGERIAN PASTORS

While I do not like the restrictions on the Muslim section, I don't think it's fair to assume that the writer is Muslim. An don't tell me that it's in the name. We have all heard about the pastor Sulaimans and Isas of this world.
Even if he is a Muslim, I think he has spoken the truth and that matters a lot

you are right sir but what about Mohammed the prophet in Islam, where is he in the Bible? I just need that clarification before i look at the two religion as one.

Mohammed came centuries after Jesus came to the world. Since the Bible was written before Mohammed came, it makes sense that his history could not have been recorded in the Bible.

Good will never forgive former president GEJ and PDP for putting this country in serious mess.

Finally.
Thank you for reading the piece. Most of the initial commentators just read the headline.
And we want Naijja to be great.
Perhaps the people that signed the agreement also only read the "headline". We shouldn't blame them, they are only behaving like us
