60 Support Groups Throw Weight Behind Soludo's Re-election Bid, Endorse him at Mega Rally

In a massive show of support, sixty support groups, comprising 120,000 members under the umbrella of All Soludo Support Groups (ASSG), have endorsed Governor Chukwuma Soludo's bid for a second term.

In a release signed by the Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Christian Aburime, 'The groups presented a whopping thirty million naira to the Governor at the International Convention Centre, Awka, to support his re-election campaign.

'Governor Soludo, overwhelmed by the gesture, revealed that there is a consensus among community leaders, APGA stakeholders, youths, and students alike, urging him to run for a second term.

He attributed this consensus to the visible developments and projects executed by his administration, which has positively impacted the lives of Anambra residents.

The Governor reiterated his commitment to sustaining the vision of "One State, One People, One Agenda," prioritizing the needs of ndi Anambra and executing projects that have transformed the state. The Governor, thereafter, expressed his profound gratitude to all the support groups as well as their leadership

The Cordinator of the All Soludo Support Group, ASSG, Mr. Chinedu Nwoye, flanked by other conveners, pledged to support the governor in fulfilling his manifesto and vision for the state.

Unanimously, they expressed their profound satisfaction with the sterling achievements of the administration, saying that they did not make a mistake by supporting the Governor’s first term in office.

This development comes on the heels of a similar endorsement by Anambra State students, who contributed two million naira to support Governor Soludo's re-election bid. The Soludo Vanguard, a grassroots support group, has also mobilized support for the governor's re-election campaign.

13th Convocation Ceremony: Tansian University Umunya Graduates 414 Graduands Amid Pomp, Installs Fr Obiora As Chancellor, Honours Deserving Individuals With Homorary Doctoral Degrees

It was a gathering of who is who and celebration of excellence on Saturday, 30th March 2025, at Tansian University Umunya (Main Campus), in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State as the citadel of learning held its 13th Convocation ceremony amidst pomp and pageantry.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) frontline gubernatorial aspirant, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu (Ikukuoma) was honoured and installed as the Pillar of the University.

The event witnessed the installation and decoration of Reverend Father Edwin SC Obiorah, SAN, as well as conferring on various deserving individuals with honorary doctoral degrees, including the Royal Highness Igwe Pharm. Onyido (Ezechumagha of Ogidi), former Reps member representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Rt Hon. Ifeanyi Ibezi (Ochiagha Idemili), Anambra South Senatorial Zone by-election APGA aspirant, Chief Ebuka Onunkwo (Seahorse), Outgoing Chief of Staff to the Senator President and Executive Director of Corporate Services, Southeast Development Commission, Barrister Sylvester Okonkwo, the Deputy Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, AIG Tunde Ogunsakan (Rtd), for their outstanding contributions to the development of education in Nigeria.

Decorating Fr. Obiora, the visitor of the school, Cardinal Peter Ebere Okpaleke, represented by Rev. Brother Innocent Anthony Uke extolled Fr Obiora, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) for holding and guarding tenaciously his principles, ideals, and virtues, describing him as a square peg in a square hole.

In a grand ceremony that showcased the institution's commitment to academic excellence, a total of 414 students bagged their first and postgraduate degrees of the institution during the 13th convocation ceremony. The event, which was attended by dignitaries from various walks of life, also saw countless others receive their master's and doctoral degrees, marking a significant milestone in their academic journeys of the great citadel of learning (Tansian University Umunya Nigeria).

The convocation ceremony was chaired by Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, MFR, who brought his wealth of experience and expertise to the occasion. The planning committee was chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor and former House of Assembly Member representing Aguata I State Constituency, Prof. Cater Dike Nnamdi Umeoduagu who ensured that the event was a resounding success, with every detail meticulously taken care of, especially as expected of such occasion.

As the event commenced, the university orator Associate Professor Tony Ngonadi reeled out the list of distinguished guests in attendance which included Chief Dr. Ebuka Onunkwo, Ifeanyi Ibezi, Sylvester Okonkwo, Rt Hon Barr Sunday Umeha (Honourable Memeber representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency), Rt Hon Chief Pius Okoye, immediate past National chairman of APGA Chief Victor Ike Oye, among many, whose presence added to the prestige and significance of the event.

As the graduands marched proudly across the stage to receive their degrees, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and pride. The ceremony was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students, as well as the unwavering support of their families and loved ones.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor of Tansian University, Prof. Eugene Nwadialor , congratulated the graduands on their achievements, charging them to remain committed to excellence in all their endeavours, noting that the university's commitment to academic excellence was evident in the quality of its graduates, who have gone on to make a positive impact in their various fields.

The Vice Chancellor admonished the graduands, who hailed from various disciplines to use their knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in their communities and the world at large as they embark on the next stage of their academic and professional journeys, adding that they do so with the knowledge and skills imparted to them by Tansian University, Umunya.

Speaking the newly inaugurated Chancellor and the Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) of the institution, Reverend Fr. Edwin SC Obiorah, SAN, paid a glowing tribute to the founder of Tansian University Umunya, Nigeria, Very Rev. Monsignor Johnbosco Akam, stating that Tansian University has a checkered history and was founded as a centre of academic excellence in 2004 by Late Very Rev. Msgr. Prof. John Bosco Akam (FCON), a cleric of great vision and versatility, adding that It was licensed on 27/05/2007, by the National University Commission (NUC), to provide various tertiary educational, technical, and professional courses to students who thirst for wholistic formation and transformation.

'In fact, its motto is 'Scientia Potestas et Virtus'(Knowledge is Power and Virtue). On 16/02/2022, Tansian University was recreated by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), as a juristic entity that exists and acts eo nomine with perpetual succession stated that It gives him a singular. I am the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the Chancellor of this great citadel of learning. It is my singular honour to address you on this occasion when our students are getting various laurels for their hard work in scholarship and where men and women who have distinguished themselves esteemed careers and disciplines are being conferred with various Honorary Degrees of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.),' he said.

Congratulating Professor Idemobi on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Staff, and Students of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, fnipr, extends heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Ellis Idemobi on his historic inauguration as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Tansian University, Umunya.

Prof. Omenugha emphasized that this appointment represents a significant milestone for the growing reputation of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. She expressed gratitude to the Board of Trustees of Tansian University for recognizing Prof. Idemobi is the ideal candidate for this prestigious role, highlighting his qualifications as a perfect fit.

COOU Delegation Participates in TetFund-Sponsored Conference on University-Community Partnership

In a bid to enhance the university’s engagement with its immediate environment, Dr. IkJ Nwanoro, the Senior Assistant Vice-Chancellor (SAVC), and Dr. Mediatrix Idigo, a lecturer in the Department of Biological Sciences, are currently representing Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) at a five-day TetFund-sponsored conference on University-Community Partnership and Collaboration. The Leader of Idemili North Legislative Council, Hon. Samuel Arinzechukwu Anikpe (Oyinatumba Wester) has showered encomuims on the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo for his noticeable achievements across the state within three years in office.

The Idemili North Legislative Council Leader who gave the commendation at the Council's Headquarters Ogidi stated that the developmental strides of the Governor should be talked about by every well-meaning onye Anambra.

According to Hon Anikpe, the Governor has done so well and should be rewarded with another tenure in the office, stating that he was particularly impressed with what the infrastructural and human developments in the state, especially the 1youth 2Skills initiative, which, he said, has created over 5000 job creators and employers of labours, as well as free Antenatal/free deliveries, among others.

The Speaker, while applauding the Governor, thanked Idemili North Local Government Mayor, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka (Ochendo Idemili) for his leadership qualities and administrative acumen, and also for always offering direction.

Anambra APC Lampoons Umahi for Saying Soludo Has No Opposition, Says He's Protecting His Interests

The Anambra State branch of All Progressives Congress, APC, has lampooned the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, for saying that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has no opposition in the November 8th gubernatorial election in Anambra State, accusing him of working for his pockets and interests.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Dr. Valentine Iyke Oliobi, who made this known at the party's Secretariat Awka, while addressing, emphasized that despite internal disagreements, the APC remained a united family determined to conduct credible primaries and win the governorship election,' even as he expressed the party’s desire to connect the state to national politics.

He said that this time, the APC would get it right, and surprising those who expected a crisis would be ashamed.

According to him, unity is what defines a party, and the APC is ready to approach the election with a united front.

He further noted that the party’s National Working Committee had directed the conduct of credible and transparent primaries and that they are committed to pursuing the election as one united entity.

'As of today, APC is one united family, and any internal issues we have will be resolved internally as a family. On April 5th, we will hold primaries that will be accepted by all of the aspirants,' he said.

The state publicity secretary of APC, Dr. Oliobi said the party has all it takes to take over government from Professor Chukwuma Soludo next year.

According to Oliobi, Anambra people can not be carried away by the praises recently showered on Governor Soludo by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during his recent visit to Anambra State.

He argued that a core party man can not come to a state controlled by another political party to make such a statement.

'Our party frowns at Umahi’s statement and would take necessary action at the appropriate time,' he added.

His words: 'Recently, the Honourable Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, while on an official working visit to Anambra State, showered Governor Soludo with praises, but let’s not be fooled—that praise was hollow, contradictory, and oxymoronic.

'Anambra people cannot be carried away by Minister Umahi’s sugar-coated words because in-between the lines of the so-called praises are nothing but a diplomatic way of expressing disappointment by the Minister.

'If Umahi truly meant his words, why did his tone sound more of surprise than genuine admiration? Let us not mistake a handshake for a hug.

'Umahi, being an engineer himself, knows what real infrastructure looks like. He was sincerely very disappointed with the politically motivated awards of contracts by Gov. Soludo in the bid of seeking reelection.

'What he saw in Anambra was not impressive, but underwhelming. His remarks were not a validation of success but a subtle reminder that Anambra is not where it should be.

'Aside from Minister Dave Umahi’s unguided utterances in support of his business ally, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, during his recent visit to Anambra State, it is equally worthnote that Minister Dave Umahi and Gov. Chukwuma Soludo has a joint interest on most of the federal road constructions in Anambra State,' he concluded.

The state executive of National Union Market Traders Employers of Nigeria (NUMTEN), Anambra State Council, has sympathized with the victims of Ifejika Market, Onitsha inferno which reportedly destroyed goods worth over 20billion Naira.

In a release signed by the Chairman of NUMTEN Anambra State Council, Comrade Nnamsom Nwafor-Orizu and made available to newsmen in Onitsha, the Chairman enjoined all the victims of the fire outbreak to take solace in the fact that no life was lost in the incident, stating that the association, which, he said is the umbrella body for all traders in Nigeria would liase with Anambra State to ensure that nothing of such happened again, adding that the plights of the victims would be adequately ameliorated and effects of the combustion cushioned.

The NUMTEN Boss noted that all the state executive members of the Council are working round the clock to proffer lasting solutions to the incessant fire outbreaks bedevilling traders in Anambra state, especially in Onitsha metropolis, adding that Governor Soludo is working hard in giving all the major and recognised Markets in the state a face-lift and needed to be supported.

'EQUITY RESOLUTIONS ON ANAMBRA 2025 GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION AND GOING FORWARD- PASSIONATE APPEAL TO NDI ANAMBRA TO UPHOLD JUSTICE, EQUITY, FAIRNESS WITH BROTHERLY CHARITY

'ON ZONING BY GEOPOLITICAL EQUITY:
The movement resolved that the Anambra Governorship by geopolitical should remain in South Senatorial Zone for the next four years. In South Senatorial Zone should be zoned to Old Nnewi Division made up of Nnewi North, South and Ekwusigo LGAs; whereby Aguata/OAU have got over Six , 6 years of Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife and Prof. Charles Soludo and Ihiala held Governorship for Four, 4 years under H.E. Dr. Barr Chinwoke Mbadinuju; both divisions having held power for over Ten, 10 years to the exclusion of Old Nnewi Division in Anambra South. The concept of geopolitical zoning can not be over emphasized, among its importance include but not limited to political stability, political tension management, cost effectiveness etc. In the spirit of sportsmanship and brotherhood, we shall not fail in acknowledging the political party that have adopted in its earnest the zoning formula. As matter of fact, a certain political party in Anambra has made it a condition precedent to purchase of its nomination form. According to the dictate of the party, if an aspirant is not from Anambra South and particularly the old nnewi such aspirant will not be entitled to purchase the parties nomination form. Kudos! We hereby appeal to other major Political parties to follow same dictate.

'.ZONING BY PROFESSIONAL/CLASS EWUITY: That Non-Practicing partisan politicians recruited from diaspora having held stranglehold on Anambra Governorship for Twenty, 20 uninterrupted years, scheming out real practicing grassroots politicians who work assiduously to keep the political parties and democracy alive in Anambra out of power, since H.E. Dr. Chris Ngige, OON, Onwa left office in 2006; It is just, fair and equitable that a well known, credible and capable candidate from the practicing political class should be zoned/elected 2025 Governor to give sense of belonging and life back to practicing politicians. This will make for sustainable political succession plan, mentorship and proper training (Iko Akpa Politics) for current and future leaders as is the case in Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia States and other states in West and Northern Nigeria.

'ZONING BY POLITICAL PARTY EQUITY:
The meeting by overwhelming majority resolved that for Justice, Equity and Fairness, the next Governor of Anambra come November 8th 2025, APGA having ruled for 20 years, PDP for Seven (7) years, Anambra should try another political party and best option for next Governorship by all considerations, All Progressives Congress, APC which is the ruling Party at the center or any other viable Party with strong Non Catholic candidate. All participants pledged to work assiduously to ensure the APC and other parties meet our criteria of bringing out candidate who has been practicing Politician on ground from Anglican/PFN/among other CAN blocks from Old Nnewi Divisiom (Nnewi North, South and Ekwusigo) of Anambra South Senatorial Zone.

'We agreed to meet formally reach out the potential candidate(s) who meet all our zoning criteria to partnership/collaborate towards achieving desired victory come November 8th 2025. The candidate shall be formally unveiled in due course.

'Our Structure under the able leadership of Hon Sir TonyUche Chukwudi Ezekwelu, KSJI as the Convener/Chairman of the movement with Comrade Engr Anthony Aniebuo as General Secretary together with the Central Working Committee, LG EXCOS, Ward Excos are fully in place advocating and mobilizing massively towards achieving our set goals.

'We resolved to unleash massive media awareness/enlightenment and stakeholders advocacy to ensure that all major Political parties Guber Ticket inclusding APC, APGA, PDP, Labour, NRM, NNN PP among others go to the best, competent, capable Non-Catholics candidate that can win the November 8th Guber.

'For 7 above, we resolved to formally write and pay advocacy visits to convince all Party leadership, Hierarchy of Catholic, Anglican, PFN and other CAN Bishops/GOs, Ndi Igwe, Town Unions, Youth Groups, Market leaders, Labour Unions, CSOs among others that the only way for Anambra Guber 2025 is for power to shift Nnewi Division from Catholics to other CAN Block especially Anglican/PFN for Justice, equity, fairness and Christian charity/brotherhood as the only way to ensure lasting peace, good governance and development.

'Our working documents and instruments has been adopted and put into action since Thursday 20th February 2025. We resolved to leave no stone unturned in achieving our set goal. Our adopted candidate who meets all these set criteria should personally assure the members and All Ndi Anambra that they will be fully supported and carried along before, during and after the Guber primaries and election proper and in government. The candidate must sign a pact/take a vow that he won't discriminate against any denominations, groups or individuals when he gets to Governorship power come November 8th 2025 by God's grace,' the resolution read

Anambra Wrestling Association Strategises Ahead Of Ogun State NSF


The Anambra Wrestling Association (AWA) has resolved to make the event the major gold winner at the forthcoming National Sports Festival (NSF) in May.

The wrestling association said this at the end of their first meeting with their Chairman, Uche Animoke popularly known as “Mighty Uche Fancy” in Awka.

Emeka Obidimma, Technical Director of away said the association was engaging an experienced coach to boost technical manpower and put athletes in the right shape for the festival.

Obidimma noted that wrestling was the leading sports in Anambra as wrestlers from the state had not only done well locally but Internationally winning gold at the Commonwealth wealth game, All Africa Games and others competition.

“Wrestling has been the leading sports for Anambra but some of our wrestlers are now abroad for greener pastures.

“But we want to bring back those days, we want to rejuvenate wrestling so that we take back our place, we will have one month open camping for the festival and we hope to come back with gold medals,” he said.

In his speech, the chairman said he hopes to develop wrestling in the long term by organising grassroots competitions for talent discovery and development.

“Mighty Uche Fancy” who donated some wrestling training kits to the association said his aim was to help youths achieve fame and fortune through the game.

“My mission is to make wrestling the preferred sports in Anambra, we shall have grassroots programme that will guarantee development of wrestling on a sustainable basis.

“But we are focused on preparing our wrestlers for the National Sports Festival coming up in May.

“We are inviting individuals and corporate bodies to come and partner with us and support our activities,” he said.

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK), has kick-started the 19th Convocation ceremony of the institution with a press conference granted by the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Ikechebelu, on behalf of the Senate, Management, Staff, and students.

Addressing newsmen at the Council's Chamber, Professor Ikechebelu, stated that the 19th Convocation Ceremonies, which started today with a Convocation lecture delivered by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON would begin today, 26th March and end on Friday, 28th March 2025.

He said that out of the 8157 graduates, 163 are Post Graduate Students, 706 are NTI postgraduate students, 680 are Master of Science, 463 are Doctorate Degree Students , 16 Doctorate Degree Students from University Business School and 3 Honorary degrees.

According to the University Don, there would be awards of prizes at the University auditorium, while on Thursday, there would be award of Bachelor degrees at the Convocation arena.

Friday would feature the foundation laying stone and the commissioning of completed projects, award of higher degrees, honorary degrees, and installation of Emeriti professors.

Professor who spoke eloquently about the massive turnaround recorded in the school stated that the three distinguished personalities that would receive the honorary degrees are the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare,
Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate (Honorary Doctor of Health Administration), Barrister Seyi Tinubu (Honorary Doctor of Media Relations), and Chief Chika Emenike, CEO Tommy Tommy Noddles (Honorary Doctor of Commerce).

The youthful Dr. Obi Chinenye Johnpeter, a native of Uruegbe Village Umuoji, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has emerged as the Chairman of the National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMAP).

Dr. Obi was unanimously elected by his colleagues to pilot the affairs of the Association for a two-year single tenure.

Elected officers are as follows: Dr. Obi Chinenye Johnpeter - Chairman; Dr. Kenneth Nwokolo - Vice Chairman, Dr. Ifeanyi Adunuba - Secretary, Dr. Vincent Epuechi - Asst. Secretary, Dr. Ifeyinwa Onyeagba - Treasurer, Dr. Echendu George - Financial Secretary and Dr. Nnama Stanley - Public Relations Officer (PRO).

Speaking shortly after his emergence and swearing in, Dr. Obi commended the Governor Chukwuma Soludo for providing the enabling environment for all and sundry as well as his top-notch approaches geared towards upgrading and sanitising the health sector, adding that the Governor had done so many practicable things that should earn him a second tenure in office.

The Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors have arrived at Kebbi State and are very eager to kick-start their campaign in the 2025 Nigeria Beach Soccer League.


According to the coordinator who doubles as the Media Director of
Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors, Awam Okwudili Emmanuel said the team would undergo a lengthy camping period to prepare adequately for the competition.

He said the first round would commence on March 31st in Birnin Kebbi and end on the 3rd April 2025, while the second round would be in Kaduna, third round in Nnewi on a later date.

'Last season, the Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors made an impressive debut, finishing second behind champions Kebbi BSC. However, this year, they're determined to go one step further and claim the top spot. The team has recruited a couple of new players to bolster their squad and are confident that they have the talent and determination to dethrone the current champions.

Zone 13 Gets 8th Substantive AIG As Oladipo Replaces Retired Aghaulor

The AIG Abayomi Peter Oladipo has assumed duty as the 8th substantive AIG of Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, Dunukofia LGA, Anambra State. He replaces Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone13 Ukpo, AIG Godwin Ndidi Aghaulor psc (+).

In a release signed and made available to Newsmen in Ukpo shortly after the unveiling of the new AIG to the Press, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, CSP Ihunwo Josephine K, Anipr, recalled that recently, the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun Ph.D, NPM approved the posting of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) to Head the Zone13 Zonal Police Command, saying that the posting became necessary following the meritorious retirement of the former AIG, AIG Ndidi Godwin Aghaulor.

'A distinguished law enforcement officer, scholar, and international peacekeeper, AIG Abayomi, stands as a beacon of excellence, integrity, and dedication in the Nigeria Police Force. Born on the 24th of April, 1966, in Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State into the Abayomi Family of the Brazilian Quarters, Moshalashi Olosun, his journey has been one of unwavering commitment to service and national security.

AIG Abayomi’s academic prowess is a testament to his passion for knowledge and self-improvement. Sports Competition: Police To Partner SWAN Anambra

In his bid to strengthen Anambra Police to enhance market community, relevant stakeholders relationship with the members of the public, using sports, the Commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has declared that the Command will partner members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter


In a release signed by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka and made available to sports writers, he stated that the CP has proposed to partner with SWAN to organise sports competitions with the market community and relevant stakeholders to enhance the Police's relationship with the public, thus promoting a sense of community bonding and trust.

The CP, according to the release, noted that the initiative is a great way to promote social cohesion and improve communication between law enforcement and the public.

'This will create a positive and engaging environment for the public, and by so doing, showcase the importance of sports in building bridges between law enforcement and the community,' he said

Appreciating the CP, the Chairman of the SWAN Anambra State Chapter, Mr Chimezie Anaso thanked the CP for receiving the Association and expressed readiness to partner with the Command to actualize its goals Consequently, the Command and SWAN is reviewing the Proposal to enable them to select the participants and the theme of the competition accordingly.

Delta State Receives Commendation for ₦1 Billion Counterpart Fund Contribution to NEWMAP-EIB

The National Project Coordinator, NEWMAP-EIB, Engr. Anda Ayuba Yalaks has commended the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori led administration for approval and release of the sum of 1b naira to the counterpart fund account demonstrating the highest level of political will to tackle environmental challenges in the state. This he said has secured the state as one of the 23 beneficiary states for European Investment Bank intervention.

In a release signed by NEWMAP-EIB, Communication Specialist, Madina Gertrude, he said, 'It is an example of what we are expecting from our Authorizing environments,' he said.

Engr. Yalaks made this known when he led the Federal Project Management Unit delegation on a courtesy visit to the Office of the Secretary to the State Govt of Delta state, Dr. Kingsley Emu on Friday in Asaba, Delta State.

He also confirmed that after conducting an assessment of the prioritized sites which are currently active, aggressive, threat to infrastructural development, and threat to lives, they are therefore considered as candidate sites in line with the conditions precedence of the European Investment bank intervention.

'They are sites to invest in and have met the conditions precedence, Delta State has met all by 100%".

Welcoming the FPMU delegation, the SSG, Dr. Kingsley Emu highlighted some notable achievements under the NEWMAP phase 1, such as the Owanta erosion and storm water management project in Ika North East and Obomkpa and Ukwu-Nzu Erosion Sites in Aniocha North Local Government Area, which he said, followed due process of project specifications.

Dr. Emu appealed to NEWMAP- EIB for a replica of this success in other ongoing projects in the state.

He assured the NEWMAP-EIB FPMU delegation of the Delta State government's unwavering support in ensuring a safe environment and resilience to the impact of climate change.

Earlier, in his remarks, the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Jamani Tommy Ejiro revealed that the promises of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the people of Okpanam community during his election campaigns, have begun to yield positive results in the community following the approval of the Amachai/Ogbozoma and Vanguard Area Erosion Sites for intervention.

Hon. Jamani reiterated the state government's resolve to extend the NEWMAP- EIB project to other communities ravaged by erosion.

'This move aims to secure and sustain the environment in Delta state,' he said.

3rd Edition of ANSSI Begins 19th March 2025

The Chairman of Anambra State Sports Commission, Estate Patrick Onyedum, has announced that the 3rd edition of Anambra Solution Sports Initiative (ANSSI) will begin on the 19th of March and end on the 25th of June 2025.

Addressing newsmen in Awka, Onyedum stated that the briefing was part of the 2025 and the 3rd edition in the series.

'Inasmuch as this is the 3rd edition, a lot of questions are still been asked as to what ANSSI is all about and its relevance to sports development.

'It will interest all of us to know that part of the manifesto of His Excellency, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo was to develop sports from the grassroots

'As a product of school sports, I saw it as the opportunity to actualize Mr. Governors vision, hence the birth of ANSSI.

'ANSSI is a sports competition involving primary and post primary schools, including public, federal, private, and mission, at various age categories (U-12, U-14, U-18).

'I make bold to say that within two years of ANSSI, the State is now the cynosure of all eyes as our athletes have performed creditably in national and international competitions

'Our ANSSI products are scartared all over the world, including the United States of America, Europe, and Asia. In Nigeria here, two of them are enjoying full scholarship from a sports academy in Abuja.

'Our records at the National Youth Games have continued to improve. As of the time ANSSI came on board, the madal haul of the State was not more than 5 gold medals. But as we are sitting here now, we have moved from 7 to 9 gold medals in the last NYG in Asaba. To this end and to maintain the tempo, we have donated sports equipment ( tennis boards, basketball courts, etc to some schools to encourage them.

'Let me also inform you that, as I mentioned earlier, many states are now copying the ANSSI model of going back to schools to bring back the glory days of sports in Nigeria.

'I call on all the participants (officials and athletes) to adher strictly to the rules of the competition.

'This 3rd edition, which will we commence on the 19th of March, 2025 across the 21 LGA and 3 Senatorial zones, promises to be an improvement on the last edition.

'I want to use this opportunity to thank our collaborators, the Ministry of Education. We have to appreciate that without their approval for schools to take part, ANSSI will still be in the incubation stage. We are deeply grateful. Women's Affairs Commissioner Disowns Alleged Recalcitrant Staff, Warns Against Nefarious Acts

The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon. Ify Obinabo has allegedly disowned one Chinyere Nwofor, a staff of the ministry, whom she said was accused of engaging in illegal activities using the ministry's name.

Addressing newsmen at her office in Awka, the Women's Commissioner said Nwofor was accused of taking a client’s child and property and handing over to her late husband’s relatives.

She noted that it became necessary following a series of voice notes and articles that went viral on the internet, alleging that Nwofor was the one involved in the incident.

She warned the public to beware of certain bad elements in the ministry who dent government’s image through their illegal activities, urging them to report such to appreciate authorities.

She said, 'Chinyere is actually a staff in my ministry. On assumption, I carved out the SGBV unit and deployed some staff there, with Chinyere as the coordinating officer. After some time, I discovered some unholy acts from her and relieved her of the responsibility. For the past one year, Nwofor has not been representing us in that capacity. I also discovered that she was using the ministry's name to perpetrate crimes.

During interrogation, Mrs Nwofor, however, denied the allegation.

'It is true I took the client to a hotel in Nibo instead of the state office, I had my personal team comprising a lawyer from FIDA, who judged the case,” she said.

On why she never reported the case to the ministry, Nwofor claimed it skipped her mind for the past one year and apologized for the gross misconduct.

End To Erosion Menace: NEWMAP- EIB Team Inspects Designated Sites In Anambra, Lauds Soludo

Following Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts geared towards reclaiming major parts of Anambra State lands ravaged by gully erosion, a team of experts from the European Investment Bank (EIB) assisted Nigeria Climate Adaptation Erosion and Watershed Project (NEWMAP-EIB), led by the National Project Coordinator, Engr. Anda Ayuba Yalaks, on Tuesday, 11th March 2025, visited some designated sites in the state to ascertain the level of the environmental degradation caused by the menace.

Some of the sites inspected include: Ndiagu Ikenga Ogidi Gully Erosion site, Nkpor Flyover Gully Erosion site, Ugamuma Obosi Gully Erosion site all in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State and Abagana Erosion site, in Njikoka Local Government Area.

Speaking during the inspection, National Project Coordinator, Engr. Anda Ayuba Yalaks noted that they were in Anambra State on the instance of Mr. Governor to come and assess the state’s readiness to participate in the project or not, saying that they were certain things they needed to confirm to be sure that the state is actually ready, and one of it is the exercise they are doing at moment, adding that they needed to confirm whether the state has some selected sites, whether those sites are priority sites, and whether those sites met the conditions of the criteria to be enlisted as a site.

His words, 'You can see we have visited about five different sites, and all these sites can be said they are candidate sites. What is very much important about those sites is that they are uncompleted sites that have not been completed before now. They are ongoing sites. It is pertinent that anything that has started needed to be completed 100%. The lack of completion was not a deliberate attempt.

'The funding of this project was initially by the World Bank, and this is a project that closed as of 30th June 2022, and the resources for that have been exhausted. The government of Nigeria and with state government both at national and the sub-national understanding the gravity and negative impacts of those challenges with the regards to land degradation did not rest on their aors. They ensure that funding are being secured to continue what has been done before and to complete what has not been completed.

'It is also of importance to note that His Excellency Governor Chukwuma Soludo has the passion and the heart to ensure that these sites are completed and, as part of his campaign promises to the people of Anambra State and he has told them that he has come with hope and not only hope and that he is coming with Solution. I can see that part of the solution is while we are here.

'He is working to ensure that when the project kicks start, Anambra will not be left behind. He is very much aware of the success story that has been recorded under NEWMAP, and he is aware that whatever has been done before needs to scale up, and it is part of the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.

'He has a renewed hope for Nigerians to have a sustainable environment and an environment that is climate resilience, and at the end of the day, he wants to leave Nigerians with an environment that is climate smart. So this is a project that is the federal government's priority, and that is why the Anambra State government has also keyed in. This funding is coming from European Investment Bank (EIB) .

Yes , people will be calling World Bank because they are used to that. Going forward, the funding will be coming from EIB. It is going to deepen what has been recorded under the World Bank. We are continuing from where they stopped. The project objectives and strategic approach still remain the same,' the National Project Coordinator concluded

Mr . Anda assured that most qualified contractors would execute the projects, adding that there would be no room for unqualified contractors.


Corroborating the National Project Coordinator, the State's Project Coordinator, Professor Philip Ogbonnaya Phil-Eze, said the Federal government Management Unit released criteria to them to prioritized the ones that have not been completed under the World Bank, stating that a total of of 13 different sites have been completed in the state, acknowledging that it was of a very low percentage. He thanked Governor Soludo for paying the counterpart funding and for being proactive and concerned towards the plights of Ndi Anambra.

In their separate speeches, the Chairman of Ndiagu Ikenga Ogidi, Chief Chigozie Etuka, Mr. Obieze Ifeanyi, a victim whose house caved in at Ugamuma Obosi and Chief Okonkwo Nnamdi, Vice President General of Abagana, showered praises on Governor Chukwuma Soludo and NEWMAP-EIB for coming to their rescue, praying God to continue to bless and protect them.

Soludo Clears Air On Latest Ban, Says It is About Noise Pollution, Not Against Evangelism

The Anambra State Government wishes to address the misconstrued reports surrounding Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo's recent encounter with an itinerant preacher at Onitsha Market. The Governor's remarks were misinterpreted as a ban on evangelism, whereas his focus was on noise pollution, which has been banned by an extant law on
public health.

This was contained in a press release issued by the State's Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor and made available to Newsmen in Awka.

'To clarify, Governor Soludo drew attention to the Public Health Law 2006, which prohibits noise pollution and preaching in inappropriate places like markets using loudspeakers. The governor advised preachers to conduct their activities in churches or designated areas where people can gather and listen to the word without disrupting others’ activities.

'The issue at hand is noise pollution, not evangelism. “Noise pollution” is punishable under *Sections 8(1,4b) and 9(1,2) of the Public Health Laws of Anambra State, 2006. As a matter of precedence, a magistrate court in Nnewi made this law actionable against a church in 2019 (link is attached herewith: https://search.app/xBiq2v7wDBUwvTmE8).

'The public is therefore advised to disregard any claims suggesting Governor Soludo has banned evangelism or public preaching in Anambra State. Instead, we urge citizens to adhere to the Public Health Law and respect the rights of others.

First Catholic Priest to Become SAN Emerges As Tansian University BoT Chairman, Chancellor

Tansian University, Umunya, the best regional faith-based Varsity, has unanimously elected Very Rev. Fr. Dr. ESC Obiorah, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (S.A.N) as the brand new Chancellor/Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) of the great citadel of learning.

The election, which took place during the meeting of the BoT on the 7th March 2025, had the popular and fearless legal luminary elected as the new helmsman.

The BoT members are as follows: Rev. Fr Dr ESC Obiorah - Chairman, Rev. Bro Innocent Uke, Rev. Daniel Igwilo - Registrar/Secretary, Dr. Helen Ozokwere (immediate past Ag. Chairman of BoT, Dr. Anene Nwachukwu, Hon. Dr. Lawrence Ezeudu, Chief Vincent Nwafor Osakwe and Prof Ellis Idemobi.

The Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor; Prof. Eugene Nwadialor and Prof. Cater DN Umeoduagu, who observed the election alongside Rev. Edwin Asomugha stated that the election was transparent, free, fair, and credible.

Speaking shortly after the election, the outgone Acting Chairman of the BoT, Prof. Helen Ozokwere extolled the brand new Chancellor/Chairman of BoT, Fr. Obiorah S.A.N, stating that it was entirely a round peg in a round hole, even as she described his victory as generally accepted.

Earlier in the meeting, the General Overseer of Rhema Ministries, Dr. Anene Nwachukwu, nominated Rev. Fr. Dr. ESC Obiorah SAN, while Hon. Barr. Lawrence Ezeudu seconded his motion. The votes were cast and counted, and Rev. Fr. ESC Obiorah SAN emerged.

In their separate speeches, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Institution, Prof. Ellis Idemobi, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eugene O. Nwadialor and the Registrar of the university, who doubles as the Secretary of Conference of Registrars Nationwide Nigeria, Rev. Daniel I. Igwilo, respectively, stated that the election of Rev. Fr. Dr. ESC Obiorah SAN was a welcome development, describing him as the right man for the job, saying that they believed that he would take Tansian University to enviable heights where massive developments would take place in the institution in the nearest future.

Briefing newsmen, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the institution, and a former House of Assembly member of Anambra State, Prof. Sir Cater Dike Nnamdi Umeoduagu thanked God Almighty for his benevolence and blessings, stating that what happened was a thing to glorify the name of God. He added that Tansian University remained the best regional University South East of Nigeria, faith cum Catholic University and deserved the best in ways the institution was run towards achieving the best for same.

Professor Umeoduagu, who described Rev. Fr. Dr. ESC Obiorah SAN, as a man of impeccable character, added that he (Fr. Obiorah) is a distinguished personality in Nigeria and in the world. He stated that he deserved the position and should be seen as a blessing to the university.

Dr. ESC Obiorah, SAN, formed part of the closing sessions of the meeting, in which he assured the meeting that he would put in all his best to ensure Tansian University continued to be the best University in Africa and by extension the world. Alleged Police Involvement Into Land, Civil Matters: AIG Zone 13 Orders Full Investigation

In a release signed by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, CSP Ihunwo Josephine K, the command on 5th March 2025, received notice of a publication issued to the Zone by the Police Service Commission (PSC) and signed by Mr Ikechukwu Ani, the Head of Press and Public Relations of the Commission, in respect of a petition received by the commission against Inspector James, an officer attached to the Zonal Headquarters, Ukpo.

According to her , 'Zone13 Police Command wishes to state that the Command at all times is in compliance with the directives of the PSC and maintains so. Officers who continue to disregard directives and in flagrant disobedience to the continued warnings of the PSC on the involvement of officers in civil rights violations, land, and civil matters, are doing so at their peril.

'Recently, the commission on 22nd February 2025, through its Press and Public Relations Head, released a publication with regards to complaints concerning human rights infringements coming from the Police in the Southeast States, and warned against the involvement of officers in such unprofessional behaviour, with a directive for officers to quit from such practices of getting involved in Land matters, debt and rent collection, marital disputes, and other civil matters.

'Against this backdrop, the Zonal Command, despite several other lectures and warnings to officers under the Command, held a lecture for all personnel on the subject and has continued to do so regularly in keeping with the directives of IGP.

'It is only disturbing to learn that officers, despite the series of lectures and warnings, continue to behave in such an unprofessional manner, thereby dragging the name of the Zonal Headquarters in bad light.

'In addressing this, the Zonal Command is at no time in support of officers not working within the approved boundaries of their professional duties, getting involved in civil disputes, and in total disobedience to several warnings from the Service Commission.

'At the moment, a Team of the IGP X-SQUAD has been detailed to look into the complaint in question and revert with a report, as the said Inspector James is under investigation. The development from the inquiry will be made available once the investigation is concluded.

'Furthermore, members of the public who are aggrieved in the course of their dealings with officers of the Zonal Command, are please encouraged to bring such unjust or unprofessional treatment to the attention of the Zone, through the office of the Zonal Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO) CSP Ihunwo Josephine, the Zonal Public Complaint Bureau (ZPCB) or the Zonal Complaint Response Unit (ZCRU) offices, located in the Zone13 Zonal Headquarters Ukpo, for redress.

'The Command is committed to ensuring that the rights of every member of the public are preserved, respected, and protected in line with international best practices of Policing standards and human rights laws,' she concluded.

The state and twenty-one local government areas executives of the Solution Vanguard Support Group, an initiative of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), have been inaugurated in AwkaAnambra State Capital.

Addressing over 500 people at the Commission’s headquarters, the Convener of group and the Chairman of LGSC, Barrister Vin-Ifeanyi Ezeaka (Ogbuagu), paid a glowing tribute to the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo for his fatherly love and care for LG workers and also for developmental strides across the state. He informed that the idea of floating the support group was mooted by the workers themselves, saying that when they brought the idea before him, he had no other choice but to support and encourage them.

According to the LGSC Boss, the local government workers interface and relate with the rural dwellers on a daily basis and would do more in spreading the message of the Governor’s re-election more than any other group or individual, charging the newly inaugurated executives to live above board and work towards achieving the core mandate given to them.

'I thank Mr. Governor for this opportunity. Local government workers are truly out to effect the needed changes and ensure landslide victory for the workers' friendly Governor of Anambra State. Omenugha's Effect: COOU Holds 26th Matriculation Ceremony, Marks Silver Jubilee

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) on Saturday, 22nd February 2025, held its 26th Matriculation Ceremony at the Igbariam and Uli campuses of the university.

The event also witnessed the marking of the Special 25-year (Silver Jubilee) anniversary of the university of the moment and of the future as well as enthusiastic fresh students of the university, parents, friends, and well-wishers.

Administering the matriculation oath to 8,000 newly admitted students of the institution, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State, Prof Kate Azuka Omenugha, reminded the new students of the vision of the university towards providing an excellent platform for research, teaching, and learning in science, technology, and humanities, and to produce graduates that are skilled, functionally creative, and worthy in character, who are equipped to make significant contributions to the overall development of society.

She said the matriculants should do well to internalise the vision and mission and strive to develop skills and be socially responsible, noting that the university will provide various platforms to develop the skills and provide the rules and regulations to make the students socially responsible.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor took the matriculating students through what is expected of them in the areas of discipline, attendance at lectures, decent dressing, and registration of courses, as well as penalties for various offences.

'The university is an academic community made up of people of different family backgrounds, Similarly, individuals who make up the community exhibit characteristics typical of their families of origin. Consequently, in this university community, as fresh students, you will encounter students who are pleasant, amiable, disciplined, studious, honest, sincere, friendly, God fearing ,and graceful. It is our wish that you encounter only such students.

'On the other hand, it is also possible to encounter some students of low moral or even amoral background. These categories of students thrive in dishonesty, insincerity, unfriendliness, heartlessness, ungodly and un-Christian behaviours, laziness, extravagance and indiscipline. We pray that you do not encounter such persons throughout your stay in this university,' Omenugha concluded.

Comrade Njideka Nwangwu's Led SSANU Built Ultra-Modern Secretariat Building Complex Commissioned

The Ultra-Modern Secretariat Building Complex built by Comrade Njideka Nwangwu led Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) UNIZIK Chapter has been commissioned.

Commissioning the Secretariat, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK, Prof. Joseph Ikechebelu commended the Branch Chairman of the SSANU UNIZIK Chapter Dr Njideka Nwangwu for her doggedness and vision in ensuring that the union started and completed the massive edifice in form of an Ultra-Modern Secretariat Building which will serve not just the union but the institution in various purposes.

Prof. Ikechebelu, who was represented by the erstwhile Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Prof. Collins Nwogwogwu thanked the current EXCO and the members for the support of the current union leadership in ensuring the dream was actualized.

.The scholar urged under unions to emulate the noble gesture through solidarity, oneness ,and togetherness.

Earlier in her remarks, the Chairperson of SSANU UNIZIK Chapter, Amb. Dr. Njideka Nwangwu stated that the gigantic beautiful edifice is one of the numerous proves of her fearless and faithful representation of the union.

Comrade Nwangwu disclosed that although the project was estimated at N150 million, the union under her watch has only committed the sum of N64 million as of the present day while also describing as deceitful the unfounded published news that made the rounds that the sum of N163 million and N150 million was embezzled under her leadership.

Comrade Nwangwu further disclosed that the Secretariat will not only serve the union but also generate income geared towards boosting the bumper welfare scheme for her members.

The union leader appreciated the university management both past and current VC, her predecessor, the contractor of the building project ,and her EXCO for their commitments and dedication towards the success of her administration.

The occasion also featured a special prayer session conducted by Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Bonachristus Umeogu.

Other highlights of the colourful occasion were the commissioning and opening of the building complex, solidarity messages from union leaders of ASUU, NASU, and NAAT, as well as award presentations to various recipients.

Anambra State Government Trains MDAs on SolutionLens for Enhanced Citizen Engagement

In a major step toward strengthening digital governance and improving public service delivery, the Anambra State Government has successfully trained representatives from 13 pilot Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) on the SolutionLens platform.

The hands-on training took place on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Solution Innovation District, Awka, and was organized by the Ministry of Budget & Economic Planning in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and the Anambra State ICT Agency.

SolutionLens is designed as a direct communication channel between the government and its citizens, ensuring real-time access to government activities while promoting openness, accountability, and accessibility. The training focused on equipping MDAs with the necessary skills to navigate the platform, leverage its features, and engage actively in transparent governance.

Speaking at the event, Managing Director of the Anambra State ICT Agency, Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, CFA, highlighted the platform’s role in modernizing government operations.

“SolutionLens will serve as a centralized system for accessing government projects and ministry-specific information. This training ensures that officers are well-prepared to navigate the platform seamlessly and provide valuable responses to citizens,” he said.

Participants engaged in interactive demonstrations, hands-on sessions, and discussions, exploring how to manage inquiries, update information, and utilize the dashboard for real-time reporting.

Sharing her experience, one of the participants described SolutionLens as a timely intervention in rebuilding public trust in governance.

“The training was apt at a time when trust in governance was declining. Since we are now in a digitalized world, it will make communication between citizens and ministries easier. Especially for citizens, it will help them know more about projects in their communities and what the government is doing. It gives room for interaction and inclusion. Moreso, the government will be accountable to Ndi Anambra.”

As Anambra State prepares for the official launch of the SolutionLens platform, the government remains committed to driving digital transformation and transparency. This launch will usher in full-scale citizen engagement, positioning the platform as a crucial tool for direct communication, real-time updates, and enhanced government accountability.
