u c dese r some statements u make dat makes me wonder, on d contrary a lot of ppl knw and appreciate wat d issues are in d niger-delta, i can speak for myself and say dat i have seen first hand d degradation dat has been meted out by d acts of commission or omission by d oil majors, i have travelled extensively across and believe u me my heart bled when i visited nembe,oporoma,sangana,ngo e.t.c. it was really pathetic,

Listen oga, no one is against development. But there is no development after war. You are proposing military action and then development - reality check: there will be no money for development after military action because the economy will be brought to its knees by the military action. My proposal was simple - engage the militants in a productive way, bringing peace to the area, then carry out the development. Niger delta ppl shd first of all start holding there leaders accountable for there actions or inactions in government, because even if there is true federalism and u have the wrong set of leaders in power the same cycle will still play out i.e. under development,funding militias,looting of tresuries e.t.c.

The problem in the niger delta is resolvable with 2 appraoches,

1) let there be massive development of the area by the govt using the already developed masterplan by the nddc (which is pretty good)

there is no need for a summit to discuss d problems cause it is d most discussed zone in nigeria history,

2) move the military in and weed out all criminal elements within the region, (as of today the military in the true sense of the word have nt been given a green light to move in )

when the ppl see that govt is serious in developing there land there is no way they can support such criminals masquerading as freedom fighters ,

bringing mend into the equation will definitely be counter productive if nt immediately then futuristically, all dis yarn abt parleying mend is

1) We've also heard people here saying that the ijaw oil is being stolen from them by the federal govt. Considering the fact that these same millitant groups bunker hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil daily, how much have they contributed to development of their own people?
If MEND themselves are involved in bunkering the oil, aren't they stealing from the ND too, since the fruits of the bunkering are not manifesting in their people?

2) Since MEND claims to be lords of the waterways and masters of their terrain, why are so many rogue groups operating with impunity? Can they claim to have no knowledge or responsibility for the attacks in the region

3) Is it fair to continually throw up Saro-Wiwa et all as Martyrs of the 'cause', while ignoring the innocent civillians that have been killed by MEND and Ateke Tom's activities? Do the 5 people killed by Ateke's boys on New year day not have mothers too? Or is there a yardstick for human life?
