sexylassie2:Proportionally, that's untrue. Someone worked out the ratios on here. 3 times more likely for blacks than whites, its reckoned, but knowledge of statistics and an ability to reason might be a requirement to understand, and neither is exactly ubiquitous. https://www.statista.com/chart/21872/map-of-police-violence-against-black-americans/

sexylassie2:A law abiding black person who does not trust the police perhaps because of what they've experienced, been told or seen, might. |
garetz:I'm certain you have read on here many many times that some think Trump promotes racism which perpetuates this, which is why some angst is directed towards him, but let me not bother you with such "rubbish".
|
sonmvayina:Powerful stories, by virtue of the fact that they are drummed into you long before you develop the ability to think and reason for yourself. And like the hardware that most are, you dare not deviate from the program installed in you. |
garetz:No one said "an event that happened New York thirty years ago is responsible for the killing of People in California today"! Please use your brain a little! The killing of George Floyd (I know that's not what you meant by "killing in California!), is a continuation of what began 300 years ago when black people were not considered human, and the current killings are being seen as a continuation. Even you can find a more up to date and current version of this.

sexylassie2:Love how you've quickly labelled him a criminal though. Is he not assumed innocent until his guilt is proven? Oh. My bad. He was shot so he must have been a criminal, according to maga logic. What I saw was a person fight with 2 police, how he stole their taser gun and ran away and got shot in the back. Even if he "used the taser gun on them", it was before he ran away and got shot in the back. |
sonmvayina:No it isn't a waste of time, I'm afraid. The story, as unreal an event as it is, actually influences our thinking. Imagine a story that tells you the acquisition of knowledge is a bad thing and your teacher is an evil serpent and that you are better off remaining ignorant and naked in a garden, and that if you attempt to acquire knowledge you will die. Can you not see how it could turn you into boko haram and a crucifier of the teacher? I bet that after you crucify the teacher, you would turn round and call him or her a god, and build temples to worship him or her in because you have been told you would live eternally despite the fact that you can clearly see with your own two eyes that everyone who believed that before you died and is no more. The Bible is not the reason for boko haram, mind. But its wrongful understanding makes us ignorant. And it is that misunderstanding that kills us.
|
zendi:You might as well as why people in UK, France, Australia, New Zealand etc, are protesting too since George Floyd was American. I doubt any one asks if one were left or right, or what party one supports or voted for, or whether one were racist or not before being employed in the Police. And if they did ask, one could always lie. |

BackllGodNaija:They died a very very long time after it was said they might. No difference to me saying you will breathe. A smart person might say "doh". |
BackllGodNaija:You assume they were never going to die at some point, while the text makes it sound like they would fall down dead immediately after they ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, though, Adam, at least, went on to live for another 800 years before dying at 930 years old. That's 7 times longer than when it was claimed he would die. It's the assumption that I challenge. Why assume they were never going to die at some point? |
BackllGodNaija:No they did not perish! It is written that they would not surely die, and they surely didn't, for a very long time afterwards. After "rebelliously" eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge, their eyes opened, as they rightly should, and they went on to bear Cain and Abel, and Seth when Adam was 130 years old. Adam lived another 800 years till he was 930 years old!

Black Lives Matter is not an answer to an abstract question such as “which lives matter?” In today’s context Black Lives Matter is directed at a racist culture which cheapens the lives of black people. It clearly means “black lives should also matter”. It is an invitation to make visible the specific devalorisation of black lives in our society. That is why responding to Black Lives Matter with “all lives matter” is racist. It tries to make this specific devalorisation invisible. Racists, as a rule, strive to make you visible when you want to be invisible, and to make you invisible when you wish to be visible. If you’re trying to be one of the crowd, the racists will pull you out of that crowd, throw your difference at you and scream: “How dare you act as if you’re one of the crowd? You are different!” But if you say, “I am being targeted because of my difference,” the same racists will scream at you: “How dare you act as if you are different? You’re just one of the crowd.” The slogan “all lives matter” works precisely in this way: “Let’s make your horrendous experience disappear by talking about ‘all of us’ rather than about you specifically.” https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/jun/13/we-shouldnt-generalise-about-racism-this-movement-is-about-fighting-anti-black-racism
