trutharena: Students all over Nigeria are celebrating as TINUBU delivers on his promise! This is a game changer for our future leaders. Unfortunately, we have a lot of "skool na scam" people who don't understand that their lack of education contributes to the lack of development, and think government must feed them. They will of course die of hunger in the end. |

Racoon: All these desperation is not the answer to the unimaginable myriads of social, security, economic, constitutional and other issues the disastrous APC have heaped upon this nation. APC did not "heap upon this nation". Nigerians voted to have APC heap on them. And after 8 years of complaining about Buhari's APC, I am amazed we (the majority) voted for them again. And before you claim APC was not voted for and elected by the majority of Nigerians, that nonsense does not sell with me, since I am certain you likely did vote for Agbado or didn't bother voting at all.

If you use it to study medicine or such like, the world will be your oyster, and you'd easily pay the loan back with the foreign income you earn. |

Amujale: Ultimately, Lisa Simone is accused and convicted of defrauding her own inheritance, make that make sense. This is not a true statement. Nina Simone did not will her assets to her daughter! According to Nina's will, obtained by TMZ, Nina put the bulk of her estate assets into a charitable trust to benefit the musical education of Black African children from Ghana, Liberia and South Africa.
The docs show Nina named South African singer Miriam Makeba as the trustee, and if Miriam was unable to act as trustee, MM could appoint a successor to continue to run the trust for the benefit of Black African children.
https://www.tmz.com/2021/06/22/kamala-harris-nina-simone-estate-daughter-granddaughter-beef-will-trust/ Also... The daughter of the late legendary jazz singer Nina Simone fleeced her mom's Estate and FLAGRANTLY ignored Nina's last wish -- to fund schools for poor kids in Africa ... this according to law enforcement.
Lisa Simone Kelly siphoned more than $2 million that the California Attorney General claims should have been earmarked for music schools in South Africa, Liberia and Ghana. Lisa had access to the money because she was the trustee of her mom's Estate.
The A.G. claims the most flagrant violation is funneling $1.5 mil to Lisa's personal company ... something her mom never approved.
We've learned the A.G. pressured Lisa into resigning as trustee and is now demanding an accounting of funds -- which could result in criminal action.

Amujale: Nina Simone's family was devastated by Kamila Haris's stint as California' Attorney General.
In the said situation, the family of Nina Simone (more commonly known as "the high priestess of soul music", Nina Simone remains as one of the most iconic soul artist in the African American community) were ruthlessly dispossessed by team Kamila, as they took away the most treasured assets that was meant to be passed over to her family and instead awarded it to Sony Music.
Sources:- https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/nina-simone-kamala-harris-estate-b1869486.html
Below are images of Nina Simone and her daughter, Lisa. Below are some views on the matter. Nina Simone did not will her assets to her family. She put it in trust to educate kids. And if her daughter was mismanaging the trust by using the revenue for her personals as alleged, she would have needed to be removed as manager, and the race of new managers would have been irrelevant.

Maryflygirl: Mercury Bank, a San Francisco-based digital bank for startups has announced that it will stop supporting accounts from certain regions. The bank will no longer serve startups whose founders have passports of the below listed African countries.
Read more “Due to recent changes in how we determine account eligibility, we are no longer able to support accounts for businesses with associated addresses located in these countries,” according to emails seen by TechCabal. With the new prohibitions, African startups incorporated in Delaware cannot open Mercury accounts unless the founders live in the U.S. While Mercury cited those concerns, it has not helped that some affected countries have been on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Greylist since 2023. Countries on the list are subject to additional scrutiny because of deficiencies in money laundering and terrorism financing regulations. “Greylisting adds another layer of risk and complexity to businesses that already perceive Nigeria as a high-risk country for anti-corruption and other financial crime risks,” according to a 2023 KPMG report. https://techcabal.com/2024/07/23/us-bank-mercury-to-close-accounts-of-nigerian-startups/ |

nairavsdollars: "The simple alternative for us all is this - let Nigeria work . Let there be light . Let there be food . Let there be water. Let there be jobs . Let there be money schools health care roads etc" . Funny Nigerians think they can just utter "let there be", and "there is", because the book they got it from has that early in the beginning and leaves out all that was between "let there be", and "there was". In the same breathe, they quickly forget they were not created in God's image to "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground”, but were created from mud and ordered to slave naked in a tiny poxy garden. Until we Nigerians eat the fruits of the trees of knowledge so our eyes open and we discover that knowledge does not kill but will make us be as gods, all our "let there be" will end up with us yelling "Nepa!"

lavida001: They dont teach certain history in schools here. Especially history that talks about British colonial racist past. They can't obviously teach all history, but they do teach a lot of history here, at least compared to some places. And there's always libraries and books and telly where a lot of history can be seen. There's even a whole month dedicated to Black History, so I'd even go as far as claiming quite a lot of "British colonial racist past" is taught, which really can't not be taught since some pesky kid from India or Kenya or Jamaica or Nigeria or even Ireland would raise the "British colonial racist past" as a topic in class and cause it to be discussed. And the intention of teaching about it is so students learn to not be racist and stupid now. Below is from the history curriculum. The national curriculum for history aims to ensure that all pupils:
know and understand the history of these islands as a coherent, chronological narrative, from the earliest times to the present day: how people’s lives have shaped this nation and how Britain has influenced and been influenced by the wider world
know and understand significant aspects of the history of the wider world: the nature of ancient civilisations; the expansion and dissolution of empires; characteristic features of past non-European societies; achievements and follies of mankind
gain and deploy a historically grounded understanding of abstract terms such as ‘empire’, ‘civilisation’, ‘parliament’ and ‘peasantry’
understand historical concepts such as continuity and change, cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance, and use them to make connections, draw contrasts, analyse trends, frame historically valid questions and create their own structured accounts, including written narratives and analyses
understand the methods of historical enquiry, including how evidence is used rigorously to make historical claims, and discern how and why contrasting arguments and interpretations of the past have been constructed
gain historical perspective by placing their growing knowledge into different contexts: understanding the connections between local, regional, national and international history; between cultural, economic, military, political, religious and social history; and between short- and long-term timescales https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-curriculum-in-england-history-programmes-of-study/national-curriculum-in-england-history-programmes-of-study |

Zahra29: My family lived in the UK during the Windrush era when "no blacks, no dogs, no Irish" and other forms of overt racism was common. So I completely agree and celebrate that the UK has changed for the better and is still evolving.
However you are conflating different points here. You claimed that Charles's title had changed to Defender of the Faiths. I challenged and corrected this point as the age- old title of Defender of the Faith still stands, and my view is that it is unlikely to change. Actually, I am suggesting that the liberal education dished to children till they hit 16 plus every other measure taken to ensure people live in harmony and respect each other including the foresight of the monarch to declare some 50 years ago that he will defend all faiths has effected change in the racial attitude of the society. |
Travel › Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by budaatum: 7:40pm On Jul 21, 2024 |
Zahra29: The modified pledge, which is a very reasonable promise for ANY country to make in the 21st century, is very different to altering the fundamental titles of the RF. The King is Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church and shall remain so.
The UK is already extremely inclusive,it does not mean that the title of the King/Monarch has to change from the central tenets, faith and traditions that it and the country was founded on. Embracing other cultures and religions does not mean you have to lose sight of, or water down, your own. Britain has always prided itself on its ability to "altering the fundamental" of just about everything, so I would be surprised if Darwin country refuses to change now I'd think, and a country that takes "In the beginning was the Word" as seriously as UK has, a "modified pledge" is similar to a modified code that makes computer function differently. As to "lose sight, or watering down its own", one just need go in the buildings where they worship to know they've not only watered, they'd almost completely eradicated or fully imbibed, take your pick, though I do confess to extreme exaggerations. Regardless, the sentiment is out there and a lot of work has been done in the last 50 years for me to not recognise its effect in enabling diverse people to live together relatively peacefully. Zahra29: There was a poll before the election that showed that Reform was polling high among the younger age groups. I posted a comment here about it, same trend playing out with the far right in Europe. So it's got nothing to do with the younger generation being enlightened as they already live in an inclusive, multicultural society. It has more to do with the hope that they feel that these new parties offers them over the status quo, such as home ownership. ( Edit: Reform was also polling higher among blacks, go figure!) Home ownership? You'd be surprised how many rather want to travel the world and earn an income abroad instead of being tied down to a mortgage, which I offer to show not everyone thinks alike. But even for home ownership, immigration is good, as landlords who own houses as opposed to homes, can rent them for more to immigrants than Brits on the dole. Fact is, Britain use to be 'no blacks no dogs no Irish', and you don't need a poll to see how far we've evolved.
