Politics › Reps Bill To Prohibit Unsolicited Text & Calls Passes 2nd Reading by bumi10(op): 8:32am On Mar 11, 2016
A bill for an Act to reduce incident of unsolicited telephone calls and text messages received by consumers, on Thursday in Abuja, passed the second reading in the House of Representatives. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Aliyu Madaki (Kano-APC), was intended to provide a legal framework to stop the sending of unsolicited ringtones and text messages to mobile phone subscribers.

The lawmaker explained that the bill was also intended to prohibit online telemarketing without prior consent of a subscriber. Madaki disclosed that the bill, when passed into law, would empower aggrieved subscriber to seek redress before a High Court. He explained that currently, there was no legislation to address the prevalence of these unsolicited messages in the country, thereby leaving the consumers at the mercies of telephone service providers.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, therefore, referred to the bill.

Politics › Shiite Youth Stage Massive Protest In Kaduna Over Continued Detention Of Zakzaky by bumi10(op): 6:07am On Mar 04, 2016
Members of the Shiite Islamic sect in Kaduna state on Thursday, March 3, 2016, staged a protest calling for the unconditional release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and members of his family. You will recall that El-Zakzaky has been in detention since the violent clash between members of the sect and men of the Nigerian Army in December 2015.

Punch reports that the spokesperson of the Shiite youths, Abdulhamid Bello said “It is now a matter of common knowledge that a legal team led by Femi Falana (SAN) and Festus Okoye have made more than four fruitless attempts to see our leader so as speak with him for the purposes of submitting memorandum to the Judiciary Commission of Inquiry and his appearance before the said Commission.”

Bello also said “Femi Falana, Festus Okoye and other members of the legal team of the movement has visited the headquarters of the Directorate of State Security on more‎ than four occasions based on the invitation of the DSS for the purpose of having audience with the leader and all the visits yielded no result.

“It is therefore clear that there is a laid out plan to prevent the legal team of the movement from having access to its leader, its spokesperson and the custodian of its properties,” he said. Members of the Shiite sect have however denied reports that they are planning to carry out a revenge attack on the Nigerian Army.

Politics › Ineffective Implementation Of Past Budgets Affected The Country's Economy-saraki by bumi10(op): 5:14am On Feb 11, 2016
In his speech, Nigeria Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki said that the ineffective implementation of past budgets and abandonment of projects have led to wastages that have negatively affected the nation's economy in the last 16 years. Saraki who stated this in his speech during the National Assembly's interactive session with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on the 2016 budget on Wednesday, in Abuja, said in response to the unacceptable trend, the 8th National Assembly has stepped up its oversight functions to ensure that funds are spent ‘how’, ‘where’ and on ‘what’ they were earmarked for.

Furthermore, he noted that as economic diversification is crucial to the success of the nation's economy, the National Assembly is working to pass laws that will "boost internally generated revenues by plugging the loopholes that exist in our system, and encouraging the small and medium-scale business owners in our communities." Saraki who commended the over 100 CSOs that participated in the interactive session, said: "We know that the work ahead of us is necessary. We also know that the road ahead of us will be lined with challenges. However, we also know that we cannot do this alone. We need all hands on deck for this one.

"In this regard, in response to citizen’s concerns and public expectations, the 8th National Assembly through this platform and the various others that we have set up online, will continue to be accessible to you. We will work tirelessly to address your concerns’ after all, we are only here because of you," he said. According to the Senate President, the maiden interactive session between the National Assembly and CSOs on the 2016 budget was convened to allow both members of parliament and the CSOs to "explore new angles, consider fresh opinions and weigh new suggestions on the reasonable changes that need to be made, and on the best way to forge ahead with the 2016 appropriation process.

"This is not only an opportunity for you to air your views, it is also a window that has presented itself that will allow all of us to work together to pass a budget that we can all be proud of. "Therefore, I urge you all to feel free to point out your genuine concerns about the budget. Know that your relevant input is crucial towards ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the National Assembly to pass a document that we can all be proud of. "When the civil society of a nation is strong, loud and empowered - we are all better off for it. When the civil society is a part of the process - with seats of their own at the decision-making table - governments become more responsive and accountable," he said.

The Senate President also pledged that the observations - read complete article at http://www.exlinklodge.com/2016/02/ineffective-implementation-of-past.html

Nairaland General › OMG - PHCN Officer Trying To Rescue Co-worker Electrocuted Instantly - Photos by bumi10(op): 5:57pm On Feb 10, 2016
A PHCN staff was electrocuted at Kogberegbe Street, Isolo Lagos today. He was electrocuted while he was trying to fix the light. As of 2pm when I received these photos from a witness, the man was still up there.

Information reaching us now is that a co-worker went to rescue him but unfortunately, both men died according to a source at the scene who sent in the pics. The first one climbed the pole to fix the light and got electrocuted. And his colleague climbed up to see if he could bring the dead man down, but he was also electrocuted. How unfortunate!

What an unfortunate and horrible incident.

Sports › Former Super Eagles Coach Onigbinde Says Nigerians Deserve Oliseh's Insults by bumi10(op): 9:30am On Feb 09, 2016
Former Super Eagles coach, Adeboye Onigbinde, says Nigerians deserve the insults hauled at them by Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh. Onigbinde said this while reacting to the Youtube videos Oliseh posted over the weekend, where he described his critics as Insane. He has however apologized for this. Onigbinde who spoke to Goal.com said;

"The first issue is about his appointment which he claimed he didn’t beg to secure, in other words, the NFF begged him. And I begin to ask what qualities did the NFF see in him and begged to have him lead the Super Eagles?

I still feel it is a big slap on the country to appoint a Nigerian or a foreigner who has never handled any club or a big team to handle the Super Eagles. That is an insult, and now the insult is now being complicated. Oliseh is now calling his critics insane. I watched the video and at a point was shedding tears for Nigerian football but we deserve it. Since he got this job, he has been going to Europe for treatment, shouldn’t the NFF have verified his health condition before appointing him. Now he has the gut to insult everybody. ‎Also talking about his experience, has he not shown inadequacy in this? For instance, see the way he handled [Vincent] Enyeama’s case.

If Oliseh was intelligent enough, he could have commiserated with him first on the loss of his mother and Enyeama would have been worshipping him, but he wanted to be a boss. Have Nigerians forgotten that the national team broke down in Mali as a result of gross indiscipline under his leadership and now that is the kind of person NFF feels is good enough for the Super Eagles job. These are the questions we failed to answer before giving him the job and to some extent, he is right in throwing hot water on the faces of those who landed him the job.

You can imagine a coach coming out a day to the commencement of the African Nations Championship that his players are not well fed and all that, what kind of result do you expect from that kind of coach? The question now is, will this not affect our chances in future competitions? Now we are causing more confusion and destroying the team further. That is in the hands of those managing Nigeria football. I have made several enemies speaking the truth. The fact is we have administrative problems bedeviling our football,” he said.

Politics › The Wisdom & Foolishness In Electricity Power Hike - Exlink Lodge by bumi10(op): 8:07am On Feb 09, 2016
First of all let me start by saying: Nigeria is a place in African were the unsual happens. From N5,000 salary to unemployed youth to #missingbudget to amrsgate to dasukigate and so on as so forth and now we are presently at #powerhike. It is a matter of time it will begin to trend on twitter if it hasn't already. Is any wrong with Nigeria? Or is it that their is something wrong with the citizenry? Or possibly, their is something wrong with our leaders?

I will like to address the issue of the press first. I was listen to wazobia fm yesterday and when people really wants to express their opinion, how they deem fit, they are cut off air. What is happening in this country? How can a Radio station, doing a program on "Electricity Power Hike" and then cuts people off air when they really wants to express their anger and fustration? AIT, LTV, TVC and the rest of them are so screwed and governed by this so called government under the guise of communication ethics. This is perplexing. I may not know how to speak english very well but please bear with me.

Foolishness In Power Hike:

How can a country like Nigeria, wake up one morning and decide to increase the electricity bill by 45%? I thought a government was supposed to look after its citizens? Should it be the other way round? What reason do they really have to increase electric bills? What possible reason? I mean in a Nigeria that you cannot boost of 5-hours steady power supply under 24-hours. What have possessed or possessing this people? And to know that Babatunde Fashola is the man spearheading this outrageous plan is more confusing than the bill increase itself. Sometimes, i think the government are crazy. The only viable reason Fashola could come up with was that: In his words

Their is no way we can improve power supply without having the resources to do that

I don't believe this. I don't like insulting politicians but this is share craziness. So Mr. Fashola is asking Nigerians to pay this outrageous fee in other to raise money or resource for Nigeria to improve on power sector? Is that what he is saying? Did i get that right? Nigerians cannot trust its government, has not trusted its government from time immemorial and Fashola is asking us to, by increasing the electric bill. I want to use this opportunity to tell you (Mr. Fashola), that Nigeria are not gullible anymore. I mean almost everybody in Nigeria knows that Former President Olusegun Obasanjo looted $38b (Thirty Eight Billion Dollars) in power sector and yet he is working free without being probed.

Take this scenario for example: Say MTN networks is epileptic and their customers are complaining bitterly. What will happen? All their subscribers will leave them and move to other stable networks, ins't it? ok. Lets say instead of MTN to work round the clock to rectify the problem it their network in other to retain their customers, (maybe something possesses them somehow), they increased their tarrif, tell their subcribers that they have to pay more so that they can use the resources to rectify their network problem. I can see you laughing ...lol but this is actually what this so called government is proposing to Nigerians by increasing this power bills. MTN subcribers will not only leave MTN network, but they cause them join am ...hahahahaha.=

What beats my heart the most is why all the citizens of this country is going about their business and leaving the protest for NLC alone to handle. All citizens of this country should be on the street. This power hike is a day light robbery and we are taken it with our arms folded. Is is not done. I repeat, all Nigerians should be on the street to protest on this power hike. Power bills in this country is outrageous enough already before this increase and am so so surprised that Nigerians are sitting back and letting this happen.

A philosopher said and I quote: "The problem is not the government, the problem is with the people who keep electing them"

It is time for us as citizens of this great country to stand up for ourselves and stop making fun of every foolishness in this country. Because i know is a matter of time, this electricity bill hike will start trending on twitter and people will begin to make fun of the whole process just like we are doing on #armsgate, #dasukigate, #missingbudget etc. Lets us take action so that we will be proud tell our kids in future what we did when this happened.

If government cannot run the power sector, then by all means privatize it and give to the real private sectors. We can only pay for what we consume. I knew that when the pay as you go meter was instroduced, there wa going to be a catch. I mean how can Nigeria introudce pay as you go meter while they can't provide power? Government will loose and the citizens will gain. And trust me, that can never happen in Nigeria. Government never does anything for the interest of his people especially in Nigeria.

Do you remember the hardworking handicapped shoe maker doing his business on the road side? Well, he has been on the limelight for quite sometime now and he has been given a wheel chair by well meaning Nigerians to make things easier for him.

Don't complain on your shortcoming folks, do what you can do and see how God will lift you up. Remember in the bible when Jesus told a certain man to roll the stone, the man looking at how big the stone is started complaining and asking how Jesus wanted him to roll this huge stone. He said is impossible. But Jesus said, do what i asked you and immediately he touched the stone, it began to move. All God wants you to do is to suck it up and get to the action part.

Politics › Send Mbaka To Sambisa Forest Says Ex-gej Aide, Dr. Reuben Abati by bumi10(op): 3:19pm On Feb 07, 2016
Former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, thinks Rev Fr. Ejike Mbaka should be transferred to the north, precisely to the Sambisa forest if he complains of recent transfer from Christ the King Parish, GRA, Enugu, after been a presiding parish priest for 20 years.

Culled from his latest article Abati questioned why Mbaka would complain about his missionary duties and also create room for others to challenge and condemned the Catholic authorities.

Following the announcement of his transfer, the cleric lamented thus:

“I’m going to suffer because I have no place to put my head. I am going to suffer because I have no place to keep the Adoration Ministry’s assets…The Adoration Ministry is passing through suffering right now even though I’ve accepted that it is the will of God. Is the will of God through suffering? It is a mega suffering.

“The quantum of the assets of the Adoration Ministry is the only thing I am bothered about for now. Where am I going to keep them? I am going to stay in one small room that has only one small bed, one small table, little toilet and bathroom. So where am I going to keep all the Adoration assets?”

To grow up in Africa, especially Nigeria can be fun as well as hell, especially if your parents are strict and in my own case, my dad was a teacher and he is as strick as hmmmm. Some who were brought up in the 70s and 80s had parents who would not hesitate to flog or severely punish them if they went against the rules and regulations.

Remember, sometimes breaking the rules is not doing bad thing oooo but just that you didn't do it they way they wanted it done or you didn't do it on time or maybe you waited for you to be reminded of it. hahahaha, I just don't want to say what i just remembered now...lol Some parents believe that the best way to bring up a child is by not sparing the rod and so they would not waste time in giving you a dirty slap, a knock on the head to bring you back to order.

Below are most of the ways our parents believed and still believe that children should be punished in pictures....
