A man has reportedly been sentenced to jail for six months after failing to declare $86,000 out of a total sum of $96,000. The suspect identified as Duru Samuel Ikechukwu, will reportedly forfeit the said amount as well as spend six months in jail for his crime.

Duru was arrested by officers of the Nigeria Customs Service at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu while on a trip to China in December 2015 and has now been handed over to the EFCC for further investigation and prosecution. On Thursday, June 16, 2016, the suspect pleaded guilty in court to the one-count charge levelled against him.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defence counsel, Ikuka Kennedy, reportedly pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy seeing that the convict has shown remorse for his actions and is a first time offender with no criminal records.

Justice Yinusa convicted and sentenced the suspect to six months in jail beginning from the date of his arrest, going on to order that the undeclared $86,000 be forfeited to the Federal Government, while the balance of $10, 000 and his international passport be returned to the convict.

According to recent reports yesterday being Monday, June 13 that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) discovered that Alison-Madueke’s has a mansion which is located in Asokoro area of Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, and is valued at $18million with furnishings inside estimated to cost at least $2 million, as well as having a bulletproof gym. He said, “In recent times, a lot of interest has been generated by the action of the commission in freezing the accounts of suspects that were investigated or are currently being investigated. Some commentators have tended to ascribe vindictive motives to this action.

It is not a new thing now in Nigeria that militant groups almost always have their way with the federal government especially when the militant group emerged from Niger Delta region. The newest group in town which is the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) have laid down conditions for dialogue with the Federal government in the region. The group, which claimed responsibility for most of the attacks on oil installations in the region since February said that no repairs should be carried out on any of the damaged facilities until after the dialogue.

Veteran Nollywood actor, Prince Jide Kosoko has penned a moving tribute to his late wife, Henrietta Kosoko who departed this earth last week.The late actress has since been buried in her hometown. Jide, moved by the tragedy that befell him making a total of three wives that have been taken away from him by death wrote:

“I find it disheartening that my treasured wife passed away at R-Jolad hospital. It was a terrible shock because the sickness was so brief and never looked like a terminal one. My darling Henrietta was not only a wonderful wife and mother but she was my meticulous partner in my profession as well as housekeeper and homemaker. She was a cheerful, friendly person and made many warm friends.

Rita seldom, if ever criticized any person. Instead, she preferred to refer to their good qualities. My wife was the soul of honesty. She would never shade the truth no matter what the consequences. It is difficult for me to estimate Rita. She departs this sinful word with a substantial proportion of me. We did not only fall in love but also built our relationship and were also fond of ourselves till death.

She inspired me in ways I cannot explain. I have lost a worthy helpmate but I have nothing but happy memories of her in this world. Adieu Henrietta Kosoko. I sorrow now for my beloved wife but the burden has been lessened by the many kindness shown my family and me.”

A 36-year-old Nigerian has been sentenced to life imprisonment for drug trafficking. The Moshi High Court ruled last Friday that Joachim Ike was guilty of possessing and trafficking in narcotic drugs. He was arrested since May 11, 2013, at the Kilimanjaro International Airport with 6,969.38 grams (nearly 7kgs) of heroin with a street value of over Sh300 million.

Judge Benedict Mingwa ruled that the evidence by the prosecution was beyond reasonable doubt. “The evidence produced by the prosecution, along with the testimony provided during this case clearly shows that the accused person committed the offence,” said Judge Mingwa.

A passionate plea by defence lawyer, Philip Njau, for the judge to allow Ike to serve his jail term in Nigeria was turned down by the judge

It is still a mystry that Jide Kosoko have lost his wife again and the third time for that matter. Amidst the sadness, the family and burial committee have announced the burial arrangement for the late Henrietta Kosoko who lost her life to diabetes in the early hour of Monday.

According to her family member and burial committee, Akeem Kosoko and Abbey Lanre, “there will be a christian wake -keep and artiste performances on Thursday 9th of June , 2016 from 4 pm to 9 pm. At Ltv 8, Agidingbi ikeja.

The Burial service at the Catholic Church, and interment follows at Atan cementry for Friday 10th of June 2016. Thanking You in advance for your prayers, support and befitting honour Henrietta Kosoko died on Monday, June 6, in an undisclosed hospital in Bariga and ever since, families, friends and well-wishers have been pouring out tributes to her.

What a world. Very unpredictable. African football's best-known figures, Stephen Keshi, has died at the age of 54, the Nigeria Football Federation has said. A former captain of the Nigeria national team, Keshi was one of only two men to win the Africa Cup of Nations both as a player and a coach.

He also managed Togo and Mali, and his playing career included a spell for Belgian club side Anderlecht. He is thought to have suffered a heart attack, local media reported. As a player, Keshi was part of the Super Eagles team that won the Nations Cup in 1994 and narrowly missed out on a World Cup quarter-final place the same year.

He coached the national side over three spells, leading Nigeria to the 2013 Nations Cup title in South Africa and the last 16 at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. His contract was not renewed after the World Cup but he later returned on a match-by-match deal following the team's failure to reach the 2015 Nations Cup finals.

He was then sacked as caretaker coach but reinstated after intervention from then Nigeria president Goodluck Jonathan. He was sacked for a final time last July.

Is always so sad to report stories on young men and women dying. I mean this is our future hopefuls. An Instagram User Ginikaokolo and other friends to the young ladies who drowned, have been sharing condolence messages via Social Media. According to them, 24-year-old Funmi (left) and 27-year-old Shola (right) who are both graduates from Covenant University with degrees in International Relation.

They were also on the verge of completing their Masters in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, lost their lives at a friend’s birthday party in Elegushi Beach yesterday.

The young Ladies were carried away by the heavy tide of the Beach water and there were no safety measures like an emergency medical unit, patrol unit or even life guards to assist them. Their friends are crying out to appropriate government agencies to look in this situation which is now becoming common in Nigeria and stop such from reoccurring.

Elder Godsday Orubebe, the former minister of Niger Delta Affairs, has claimed Nigeria is paying him back for his service with unjust criminal charges against him. Orubebe made this known during his trial on Thursday, June 2, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), over alleged failure to declare his assets in 2011.

According to the ex-minister, he regrets serving Nigeria in ministerial capacity, This Day reports. Orubebe, who was led in evidence by his counsel, Selekowei Larry (SAN), told the tribunal that the charges against him were uncalled for because the property for which he was arraigned does not belong to him.

Godsday Orubebe, ex-minister of Niger Delta Affairs, has claimed Nigeria is paying him back for his service with criminal charges against him He claimed that despite serving Nigeria diligently and energetically for six years and four months, the payback for his service was the criminal charges brought against him unjustly. He said: “Let me make this point now here before this tribunal that the only regret I have for serving this country is this trial. It is very unfortunate, it is regrettable and it is shameful. I am sad and my heart is heavy because I am put on trial on mere empty land in the bush here in Abuja officially given to me by the same government I served.

“Nigerians may not know this and I wish to say it out that during the peak of the militancy in the Niger Delta, I slept with the militants in the Creek for two weeks, negotiated with them on how to adopt peaceful approach for their demands, and in the end, my efforts brought peace to this country and our oil companies have their peace and Nigeria was better for it in the area of security and economy because of my efforts, only to be compensated with this trial that has destabilized me. “I still love this country but, I have a pain in my neck.
