well like many i started programming cos i wanted to make games. i really started with pascal in 95. before then i only knew basic BASIC stuff - i didnt have a computer so. . . anyway, i attempted to write a pac-man clone with pascal but failed well i didnt have my own computer so. . .now i played and watched a lot of football, while learning C without a PC - i wanted to become a professional footballer - no seriously i had talent.i finally got my own computer in 99, the sweet (at that time) IBM Thinkpad 560X. at about the same time, i stumbled on linux. now for the next 5 years, i became it's slave. i was doing a lot of bash scripting now and plenty of C programming playing about with APIs for cryptography, networking, ncurses, X windows, SDL, MySQL, Gameboy Advance. i also played with Java (sockets & databases) a bit. then in 2005, i set out to achieve what got me programming in the first place. i left home to engage in a year of pain, understanding OOP and game programming concepts. so my C++ got a lot better and i learned Lua and C# for kicks. and guess who's a games programmer now? yes, its official ![]() in short, a snapshot of my history is right here |
guess what game was wikipedia's feature article today? |
peterson! ROFLMAO |
probably the most balanced quarter-final match ups i've seen in a while. my predictions: roma v man utd - roma have everything to go through. the only thing that can kill them is mistakes and complacency milan v bayern - hardest to predict. both teams have had a shit season. don't know much about bayern but milan have poor strikers and their victory depends on if kaka has a good game. chelsea v valencia - most likely victory for chelsea simply because they want it more but i'll be rooting for valencia. psv v liverpool - psv wins. liverpool's win against barca was as a result of the uselessness of valdes. ideally i'd like to see roma, bayern, valencia, psv but with the way things work you'll most likely seen this: man utd, milan, chelsea, psv and besides they are a team of champions. the champions mentality counts a lot. that's why inter is a shitty team! |
Donzman:who? playing pinball with the football? yes i agree but vision? pass? RuuDie:wrong! these guys are definitely not quiet or invisible. their teams often depend on them and they are highly man-marked. kaka is the top scorer in the CL! someone's who's quiet and effective, and would definitely be playing a CM role in my dream team would be Xavi. |
it's just a fact of life that inter sucks. they are just cursed. you sage, no excuses for you. milan have had a terrible season not withstanding. we'll so own you guys next season. i can't wait! FORZA JUVE! |
aint no other rider got sh*t on rossi. it's about time he won one of those acclaimed "sportsman of the year" awards |
holler at texazzpete, dakmanzero, neoteny and Gtay. freaks i tell ya. ![]() |
"dakmanzero":PS3 now has LittleBigPlanet! uhm. . . did any of you guys follow GDC at all? PS3 is looking stronger now. "PS3 home" completely blows Wii Miis away! but i'm not entirely sure that system will work flawlessly. |
IMO, FF9 was quite good but just too short. I still haven't been able to finish or even properly play any of the FFs on PS2 - no thanks to my real life. anyway, i'm patiently waiting for FF7 for the PSP. |
Akolawole:true true, juve is coming |
yo rikky, dont you mean the "Goners"? ROFL |
ROFL LOLLOLOLOLOLLLOL ha ha ha! |
barca fans! barca fans! your team just needs to get rid of valdes fast! should've gone 2 seasons ago. |
software emulation should be easy on the powerful multicore ps3 but it's going to take some mad skillz to emulate the emotion engine with a very unfriendly ps3 dev environment |
@dmz shun! those games aint mature in my eyes. enjoy sha. the wii is quite an addictive console no doubt. we've have one in my office lounge and it's wii bowling is quite popular with the coders, though i prefer wii golf (even though i hate real golf). also played a bit of zelda but wasn't that impressed (story-wise). it's still typical zelda with new controls. as per the PS3 backward compatibility, i dont even know why they bothered in the first place. it's obviously cheaper not installing emotion engine chips in the PS3 and with all the cores the PS3 has, you'd think they go the emulation route like much like the 360. oh well. . . i might have to cop me a US PS3 anyway. a couple of US PS2 games i still want to play. |
nintendogs?? animal crossing?? mature?? hell no! |
with all the pot-holes in lagos, it wouldn't be safe underground. |

ask any milan supporter. sheva is a snitch! |
obviously, neji would have combo-ed him and won. sasuke without orochimaru's seal is a weakling. |
i just want to see gameplay footage of FF Crystal Chronicles for the wii. |
ok. i put this up before, yet some people were still asking dumb questions. the server isn't stable and this file is only here for a limited time. |
@tp: seriously, leave PH (or get on-shore). getting your phone is hard! not sure what the exact percentage is but it is known that the percentage of gamers today, aged 18-35 is more than those aged under 18. i work in the games industry, and it's pretty hard to tell my non-gaming family or friends what exactly i do. once you mention the word "game", they'd be like 'wtf'. and that's not just a problem for me - most game programmers struggle with it. generally people think game developers just fool around at work playing games all day long. ha! well, ok, only the testers play games all day long, and believe when i tell you they get sick of it. a game designer too would also have to play games quite a bit too. programmers on the other hand hardly have the time for it - i only play games at work for research and it never lasts for more than 20 mins (i try ). another misconception people have that pisses me off a great deal is that games are easy to make and is not rocket science. well, i mine opinion games dev is more advanced than rocket science. . . hell yeah! IMO, a game programmer (the engine programmer) is the ultimate geek. f**k! i have met some evil people not even OS devs can rival. nowadays programming games involves hardcore maths and physics, some biology and psychology too. it's a pity despite their brilliance, game programmers don't earn as much as some of their weaker peers in other areas of software development (death to all network programmers). anyway, we don't do it for the cash - it's all passion. i could go on and on but i'll just stop. i just wish games can be viewed as an art much like film. we'll get there soon. |
@echowords no hard feelings. @dakmanzero even if he has all those weakness, it still boils down to the user. that's what i was trying to prove with that youtube link. |
sorry it's r0d99@yahoo.co.uk. appreciate it if you can ping this thread after you've sent it. |
oh goodie. ok man, i'll have to make a phone call first and uhm, i might also need a chipped PS2 but lets talk first. send your email to my spam trap r0d99@yahoo.com or you can ask chxta for my yahoo or msn ID. saw chxta once last year. we communicate regularly over the phone. |
