ProgrammingRe: Programming - What About Newbies Like Me? by c0dec(m): 8:01pm On Nov 20, 2005
java can never compete with C++ in terms of speed. nobody develops full time desktop apps with java without putting in some C/C++ or any other language. why? because java is slow.

Well, gbengaijot. C++ is a good choice but if you're going to want to make a living as a coder in Nigeria, it'll be best to learn C-sharp or Java later. as per resources, there are plenty on the web. if you don't have Microsoft's Visual Studio, you can download free compilers from the net. just go to any C++ site and you'll find plenty resources, tutorials and links to help get you started. elbaron has also got some tutorials here on Nairaland.   I'm sure he'll put up some links.

ps: you can download ms Visual C++ compiler from microsoft.com but you don't get the IDE.
ProgrammingRe: Programming - What About Newbies Like Me? by c0dec(m): 2:04pm On Nov 20, 2005
yeah thats right. learning VB means you're tied to M$. that means you can't program on linux, symbian or any other exotic platform. you'll belong to Mr. Gates who is even concentrating more on his C-sharp. so VB IMO isn't a good choice.

Real programmers program in C/C++

elbaron:
(make sure it ends with .C, not .c! That is a capital C).
nice man. keep it up. grin. i've a question though. why uppercase C? saving it as *.cpp shouldn't be a problem (at least on linux).

elbaron:
//include this file for cout
#include <iostream.h>
these libraries are now deprecated. newer compilers will give u warnings when u compile. it's better if you use the STL libraries so instead of the above - u do something similar (notice the ".h" missing)

#include <iostream>
using namespace std;

just my 2 cents
ProgrammingRe: Managed Extensions for C++. by c0dec(m): 2:37am On Nov 20, 2005
i don't think a lot of full-time developers hang out on nairaland. it'll be better if you put up tutorials for newbies rather than advanced topics.
TV/MoviesRe: 'Naruto' Fever in Nigerian Universities by c0dec(m): 8:34pm On Nov 19, 2005
whoa! i didn't get any notifications on this topic. i wonder why.

well, i haven't been watching naruto much either. been very busy and will resume in about a week.

as per the narutocentral link thanks seun. cos usually, i'm been compressing my older episodes and movies to about 70/80mb and slashing out the intros and credits.

if u happen to stumble on any naruto avis with slashed out intros/outros about that size, just know it came from my PC. grin

Hunter:
Yes but in terms of speed of writing code, it takes less time to get a java/visual basic app up and going comapred to a C++.
yeah, you're right. but that's just because java is ready-made with all kinds of classes and libraries. on the other hand u can't do much with ANSI C/C++. but if you've got the right libraries, you can.

as per visual basic, i think it's a crappy language for kids. it's one language that deceives people - making them think they're good at something.

C++ is rubbish for rapid development of programs
what the hell do u mean? anything can be coded in C/C++ in no time. unless u only program web stuff (the boring stuff). the significant apps on the planet are all coded in C/C++.

IAH:
That's interesting! But how come they don't use it? I thought C++ was the best language for software dev.? huh
no doubt C++ rocks. but when it comes to maintaining large programs, java and c-sharp are better.

i'm still a C++ fan though. C/C++ is the most used language in the world but in nigeria, it ain't.
ProgrammingRe: Programming - What About Newbies Like Me? by c0dec(m): 2:23pm On Nov 18, 2005
because no software dev. company (the bigger ones) in nigeria use C/C++. it's all full-blown OOP, java, C-sharp and even delphi. C++ is rarely used. C is totally out of it.

If you want power and control, go 4 C/C++.

Regards,

not exactly my guy. as much i as i hate to admit it, C-sharp is gaining fast ground. well it also depends on whether the guy wants to program for a living. if yes then c/c++ isn't for you as long as you dey naija.

Hello All,

We maintain many cafes, but they always complain of worms. Please is there a way to know the trojan infected mails? How can one detect a trojan infected email without opening it?

How can one stop the spammers as well?

SportsRe: BBC African Footballer of the Year 2005 by c0dec(m): 6:19pm On Nov 11, 2005
okocha's doesn't even deserve to be in the top 10. he has been simply awful all year long. heck even obodo did better than him. if you're going to vote for any homeboy, it should be martins.

drogba was lousy as well. it's obvious eto'o should win the award. he was simply spectacular. was the leading goal scorer of la liga till the last day when forlan overtook him.

finally my guy, Akolawole, Carling cup no be cup. no mention that thing again

goodguy:
Good.. he wasn't ready to do anything yet because it wasn't his time to do anything. They never 'asked' mary as you claim. The Bible says,"when they wanted wine..." not "when they 'asked' mary..."
It was Mary herself that saw that these people were in need of wine. Jesus equally knew as well (since He is all-knowing). But he said it wasn't his hour yet. Stop thinking that it was due to what his mother said that made him perform the miracle. As you said, the Bible didn't specify the time difference between when Jesus said that and when he performed the miracle. Which means he performed the miracle at the appointed hour, not when his mother asked him to. Remember, no one knew whether Jesus was a messiah or not as at that time, since he had not performed a single miracle before then. So why then would they have asked Mary to tell her son to perform a miracle for them since they didn't even know who her son was. huh
i tire for you. there are 4 books of the gospel. read all of them.

goodguy:
Who said Jesus wasn't willing? Who told you the party organizers went to ask Mary to intercede for them? Read your Bible well. John 2: 3 - 4 says, "And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. (no one asked her to intercede on their behalf). Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. (That doesn't mean he wasn't willing, it just wasn't his time as HE clearly stated).
duh'! his time had not yet come...means he wasn't ready to do anything yet.
