HellVictorinho3: Luck means you're not hurting yourself..... hardwork is an effort that's always there.
Hardwork can be demonstrated in different ways..... the positivity is as a result of luck....
You can be hardworking towards drugging yourself till you get hospitalized....
Positivity shows luck ... even positive thinking or the thinking that doesn't show depression or your addiction to destructive substances.
Your hardwork is beneficial by chance....in other words, you need the chance of your hardwork being beneficial.
Therefore, your success just happens...
There's no reason why your effort or whatever you do is not in vain as a person that succeeded or achieved something.
Your effort can be a sequence of events...it is either beneficial or not.... there's no reason why.... it's just the way it is.
What is a benefit?
A benefit is anything that doesn't reduce your health.... keeping your system active for as long as possible instead.
So, beneficial hardwork leads to success... but beneficial hardwork happens by chance so beneficial hardwork shows luck itself.
Beneficial hardwork also shows smartness or the mental effort you put into it....
Can you do me a favor? Okay o. I don hear. |

HellVictorinho3: I noticed your argument with someone here concerning luck ........ I think it's all about the definition.
It depends on your definition of luck.
When you consider luck as the chance of being successful or the chance of getting what you consider as your gain, then you won't say luck doesn't make you successful.
Another issue is what you consider as beneficial..... what you see as success may be different from what another person sees as success.
Some people say taking an opportunity means you're hardworking/successful....BUT what's an opportunity... ?
If you earn 15,000-25,000naira per month and you see the vacancy of a 10,000naira job with no allowance or additional stuff, would it make sense for anyone to say you're lazy because you didn't accept it ??
Which person that is not under the influence of destructive substances or depressed or seriously and critically physically ill would reject a better job offer that doesn't require spending money on transportation/accommodation
Remember that if the person could afford transportation and accommodation ,then the person won't need to change from one job to the one that requires spending money on transportation and accommodation..
If someone is under the influence of destructive substances or depressed or seriously critically physically ill, then the person can't have the chance of being successful because he or she is in a state that wasn't chosen ..... such a state is unfortunate and it makes the person incapable of earning something noteworthy.
Nobody chooses to be depressed or overwhelmed by substances or critically ill ......if the person commits suicide,it means the person was depressed which is a state in which a person is overwhelmed mentally......no matter your definition of psychology/psychiatry...
Hardwork is just the effort you put while you exist ... nobody exists without hardwork.
So, what's my point ??
My point is your hardwork is whatever you do for as long as you're lucky/successful to some extent.....in other words, that you exist means you're lucky/successful to some extent as your hardwork is not in vain but it's just to some extent because when a person is suffering from certain things,we would have to consider the person as unfortunate .....
If the person's problems overshadows his or her existence such that he or she looks so unhealthy.....then , the conclusion can be taken as the case of an unfortunate person who is so close to death.
The closer you're to death, the less successful you're or the lesser your luck......so less that you're said to be unfortunate because your luck is negligible..........
Would you like to know about my case ? You can say hard work and a bit of luck can make one successful... but to attribute everything to just luck? Mba! |

BluntTheApostle: Here is another piece from yet another financial expert:
Are you confusing your good fortune due to your own skill rather than due to luck? I’m here to argue that your outsized wealth is mostly due to luck. Therefore, stop deluding yourself into thinking you’re so great!
As President Obama said in a July 13, 2012 campaign election speech, “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that.“
When I first heard Obama say this sentence, I was taken aback. From 2009-2012, I had been working on Financial Samurai for three years from about 5 am – 7 am and from 10 pm – 12 pm after working 12-hour days in finance. If I wasn’t building Financial Samurai, who was?!
I had also recently left my finance job because I wanted to be free. All I really desired to do was write while traveling around the world, so that’s what I did.
But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to understand more of what President Obama was talking about. Just like it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a lot of help along the way to achieve your goals. Besides, Obama was referring to not building the roads and bridges that helped your business prosper along the way.
I firmly believe that it was mostly luck (~70%) that helped me achieve a basic level of financial independence at age 34. Of course, effort is also required to get ahead, but it’s not the main reason. There are plenty of people who work much harder than you or I, yet will not achieve what we have.
The more we can recognize our luck and not take our luck for granted, the more prosperous we’ll become. I encourage you to list as many fortuitous events that have happened in your life. This way, you’ll appreciate more of what you have and fight harder to achieve your goals and freely help others. https://www.financialsamurai.com/your-wealth-is-mostly-due-to-luck-be-thankful/ I think I understand what you and the analysts are driving at. Seizing the moment and taking of chances is what is referred to as luck. C'mon, as long as you still take in oxygen and breath out carbon monoxide, one will always be coming in contact with opportunities, if you are able to make use of them, it's going to be because you prepared for them, not knowing where or when it's going to come, that time of preparation (work) is the reason why you can seize the chance? Remember you said that Wande Coal took a chance and succeeded? He thought, sat down, wrote and composed a couple of songs, went to a studio, paid money that he toiled for. Hustled for transportation money and gate fee. Got there early, deliberately chosed a good spot at the front, armed with his demo, waiting for Don Jazzy to draw closer so as to thrust it into his hands...and everything goes well. Are all these deliberate efforts (hardwork) by Wande Cole far less important than the role of luck? |

BluntTheApostle: Read this:
However, talent was definitely not sufficient because the most talented individuals were rarely the most successful. In general, mediocre-but-lucky people were much more successful than more-talented-but-unlucky individuals. The most successful agents tended to be those who were only slightly above average in talent but with a lot of luck in their lives. https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/beautiful-minds/the-role-of-luck-in-life-success-is-far-greater-than-we-realized/
As for countries who have become wealthy, I had written earlier that luck plays a role in the decisions we make. Some people always make the right decision, not necessarily because they are smart or think deeper, but because they trust their gut feeling. They make a good decision on the spur of the moment, and succeed, while smarter people draw up big plans, and still end up failing.
Talent is great, but luck will always be the deciding factor as far as success is concerned.
One thing wealthy people will never tell you is how they really made it big. They will never agree that they were simply lucky. No one wants to hear that they were lucky. They want people to respect their abilities, talents, perseverance.
Which is why someone like Simi will give motivational talks about hustling till she hit big. She would never mention the luck she enjoys over countless others who could easily be in her place, only if they were luckier. Well... I don't have a link with which to back up my position, but I still think it's unfair to place luck over hard work as the basis for success. Sounds somehow... really. |

BluntTheApostle: There are people who do everything right, and still fail. And people who do everything wrong, but succeeded.
No one has life figured out.
There are many writers who have great books, but will never be successful writers.
JK Rowling had a great book (her first Harry Potter book), but she got rejected severally, until luck smiled on her. Many other potentially great writers may die with their talent simply because they were not lucky enough to find a publisher who realizes the finer qualities of their works.
William Golding was a British writer who won a Nobel prize. His famous novel "Lord of the Flies" was rejected by 19 publishers who thought he wasn't talented enough, or that the book would never sell. When eventually a publisher took his chances with the book, it became a success.
Let us explore music.
What do you suppose Wizkid is doing better than thousands of upcoming artistes in Nigeria? Does he sleep fewer hours? Is he the most talented?
That guy that sang "One Corner", tell me what is so special about that song? Yet, it became a success in the sense that it became well played. The guy has gone down perhaps because he is talentless, but luck made his "One Corner" song enjoy massive airtime.
Knowing what to do is not enough. Knowing how to write and get published doesn't mean you will automatically get published, no matter how great your manuscript is. You need luck in the form of an editor finding something worthy. And as you know, all these things are sometimes down to a matter of personal taste. Without luck, you may not even be able to maximize your chances of getting published.
Let us say while they have planned everything, a pandemic comes and sets everything backward.
My brother, luck comes first.
Let me be more academic with you.
In the field of business management, there are four factors that can impact a business.
They are:
Strength (which are within the control of the business)
Weakness (aso within the control of the business).
Then, there are:
Opportunities (which are not largely under the control of the business).
Threats (which are not largely under the control of the business).
So, even if you have talent (your strength), you may need a whole lot of luck to overcome threats to your success, which are largely beyond your control).
Don't get me wrong. Talent is great, and can keep you there, especially after you have had luck.
Wande Coal met Don Jazzy through a very unusual mean. He squeezed a demo into Don Jazzy's hands during a live performance in which Wande was an audience at the time. Don Jazzy could have thrown that demo away. He could have misplaced it somehow. In fact, Wande might have been unsuccessful in his attempt to get his demo across. But luck made Don Jazzy keep the demo. Luck made Don Jazzy (who probably receives loads of upcoming music every minute) to take interest well enough to listen to Wande's song.
Someone else may try Wande's tactic and fail to land a music contract. The difference may not be talent, but luck.
Consider Goodluck Jonathan, and someone like Atiku Abubakar. Atiku had designed his way to the presidency. In fact, he has been in politics since the 1990s. But look how Jonathan became president so easily. If you go through your own write up, you will discover that most of the people who got lucky, had it because they persevered. I am not ruling out luck as well, but I refuse to believe that it's the major factor in success. Compare countries, go through their histories, mention any first world country that got their by luck instead of careful planning. |

BluntTheApostle: Everyone sets out to succeed, but not even everyone who is hardworking succeeds.
That is why luck can never be overemphasized. It is, in fact, more important than talent.
It's not everyone who sets on the journey of success and works hard that is going about it the right way. What do you think is talent, for you to take the position that luck is more important than talent? Talent is closely related to knowledge. A man who knows what to do will go further than the one waiting for that "day" (luck). Did Singapore/Indonesia get to where they are today by luck or more investment in knowledge? Answer. |

I pity the people saying success is luck and chance. You can never be successful with that kind of mentality, because success is a journey one sets out on deliberately. |
