A lawyer is vast that's why a lawyer will say he/she is learned while others are educated. The need for specialization is basically for the lawyer to create a niche for himself/herself but that do not mean he or she cannot handle other area of law properly.

FOR THE QUESTION YOU ASKED:
Well in order to suggest a lawyer there is need to know what the case/issue that is the bone of contention in order for you to be properly guided on choice of lawyer (although the choice of lawyer isn't a hard and fast rule). While you at it talking on the issue, you could be advised here on NL if you will be advised to take a legal action or not.

Bro I understand your view/bias but I will love to state that law is what the constitution/code says, just the way the Criminal Code is applicable in the South that's how the Penal Code is applicable in the North that is the issue of jurisdiction is territorial in Nigeria.
Section 6 of the Criminal Code categorically states that a man CANNOT rape his wife as applicable in the South by virtue of the criminal Code but in the instant case it happened in the North, now what do the Penal Code say?
Section 282 of the Penal Code which contain similar statement as Section 357 of the Criminal Code exempt perpetrators of rape within marriage context from punishment. This invariably mean that a man CANNOT rape his wife just the same way a wife CANNOT rape her husband. For so long as the marriage is subsisting and the wife has attained puberty any sexual contact CANNOT be classified as rape.
Required Ingredients:
If there was a valid subsisting marriage between the parties with all the prerequisite of a valid marriage present and the wife has attained puberty the deceased act won't be considered as rape or attempted rape and as such, self defense to rape won't be considered as defence by the court, what other defence is available, is it provocation? which is capable of reducing murder to manslaughter I strongly doubt this defence will be accepted by the court. However, if the suspect is lucky she would be convicted for manslaughter if the mens rea (mental element) is not concurrent with the actus reas (physical element) but should the court apply the foreseeable test the court could come to the conclusion that the accused had intended "grevious bodily harm" and had expected the likely consequences of her act which led to the dead of her husband and be held liable for murder.

Chicent just answered your question and said exactly what's on my mind. No doubt, buying a car at your instance isn't luxury but a avoidable necessity that is necessary considering your family size. However I would advise you buy the land (with a good tittle) I live in Lagos and I know it's all important to secure the land but atleast you could erect a fence of say 2 coaches to connotes ownership and possession. From the 1.5 million contact a lawyer for the documentation and background check on the land (you could do this along with him), I know it's might seem "expensive" contracting the service of a lawyer but I must say no amount is too big for peace of mind.

Also English Law always belongs to the English People not Nigerians because English Law is the. Traditional law and costum of the English People, while we Nigerians already have our own Traditional law and costum, (which requires plenty of amendments) even before and after those English Armed Robbers came.
The received English law were vehicled into Nigeria by virtue of the Interpretation Act and some of this English law have been domesticated into Nigeria law. A good example is the Will's Act that was domesticated with modification into the Will's Law of the various state of the Federation.

So English law does not work in Nigeria like Nigerian laws do not work in England.
Saying English Law does not work in Nigeria is too sharp a statement to make as Nigeria Laws are primary sources of laws, English Laws are persuasive as secondary sources of law

That's why the decision in Cole vs Cole was good but the ground (as stated above) was wrong, in that a marriage under the Act createes joint ownership of property and all rights must flow from there first, not on the ground of Succession Laws, because Succession Follows Relationship Always

Kindly note that Cole v Cole was reported in 1898 hence English Law was the applicable law. However, years after the decision of the court in the case, The Administration of Estate Law of 1976 was enacted. Check Section 49(5) Administration of Estate Law.
The point I was making in my initial post that you quoted was not whether Marriage under the Act creates joint ownership of property and all right must flow from there or not. The point I made was Marriage under the Ordinance clothes the parties to such marriage and their offspring with a status unknown to the Customary law that the deceased partner was naturally subjected to and so the inheritance of dissolution of estate CANNOT be decided in accordance with native law and custom by virtue of Marriage under Ordinance.
