The less we have to do with the USA entirely the better off we are.

The events that have been taking place this year and the info i got my sources is very scary and nothing that anyone especially us Nigerians must sweep under the carpet.
Its too late - you've seen what is happening to Libya ( and what happened in Ivory Coast) - any country that tries to get out from under US or european hegemony comes under attack (Pakistan) Saudi arabia is also trying to break free from US control and allign with Russia (they will pay dearly for that if they go ahead with that)

I suspect that when GEJ was talking about reviewing our foreign policy he meant getting closer to China - im guessing here, anyway if thats the case , GEJ should prepare himself for coming attacks from the US.

With regard to this John Campbell - i dont see him as a friend of nigeria - he obviously wants some sort of break up to occur - the question is for what purpose?

I hope cowardly GEJ has the stomach to finish what he has started, as jp phillips correctly stated above nigeria is not in a position to flex muscles when it has been taking orders from washington and london since 1967. Its either you act like a grown up soveriegn nation from day one by being in total control of your economic and political destiny or you accept your lowly position of a puppet state under the control of the US and britain. No wonder Campbell had the audacity to talk down to the nigerian govt and STILL expect to be let into the country on a visit, Campbell isnt some faceless bureaucrat he is a member of the powerful CFR and i can assure GEJ that if you piss off a member of such a powerful organisation you will soon find out the hard way what its feels like to be on the receiving end of america. I do not beleive that Campbell's criticism of nigeria is well intentioned , however nigeria has left it too late to flex muscles, it is obviouos from Campbell's statements about nigeria disintegrating by 2015 that he is not in support of GEJ and probably wants to see the back of him as soon as possible, but again i feel no sympathy for GEJ because he equally has nothing to offer nigeria.

If GEJ wants to play hardball he should remember how easy it is for america and europe to take out african leaders they dont like as we are currently witnessing.

As if Japan and Germany don't have US bases. Is the US base being positioned here for a war like it was in Iraq? Who is Nigeria's Saddam Hussein, anyway, any war on terror isn't coming anywhere near south east so they can go and bomb mad towns that can't solve a situation with killing hundreds,
japan and germany were both defeated by allied forces headed by america after the second world war - thats why military bases were located there, you only locate your military bases in nations that you have either defeated in war or that are no longer sovereign states and are now under your control - when gadaffi overthrew king idris in 1969 the first thing he did was to close the US airforce base located in his country. If the US succeeds in their plan (and im sure they will) you will start seeing the disintegration of nigeria - as omo tier correctly pointed out it will be like pakistan where the americans are trying to balkanise the country into smaller easily controllable fiefdoms.

yes like the comforts the iraqis are enjoying.

anyway its already too late, there is nothing nigeria can do to stop the US locating a military base in nigeria, nigeria has already allowed america onto the continent of africa by voting in favour of the no fly zone over libya, its too late, the forces controlling africa are greater than anything that nigeria can muster to defend itself, the nigerian military can not even defend the territorial integrity of nigeria from any external attack - when africans were being warned about africom they thought it was a joke, now look its beginning to manifest itself, the americans are coming to force chinese investment out of nigeria and ensure that they and the british retain control over the oil reserves in the south - in doing so they will completely militarise the whole of nigeria, lets hope nigeria does not turn into another DRC.

Foreign Affairs › The Strauss Kahn Frame Up by cap28(op): 12:26am On May 19, 2011
Was the IMF chief framed?

A former Reagan insider thinks so:

The Strauss Kahn Frame-Up: The Amerikan Police State Strides Forward

by Paul Craig Roberts

Global Research, May 18, 2011

The International Monetary Fund’s director, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, was arrested last Sunday in New York City on the allegation of an immigrant hotel maid that he attempted to violation her in his hotel room. A New York judge has denied Strauss-Kahn bail on the grounds that he might flee to France.

President Bill Clinton survived his sexual escapades, because he was a servant to the system, not a threat. But Strauss-Kahn, like former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, was a threat to the system, and, like Eliot Spitzer, Strass-Kahn has been deleted from the power ranks.

Strauss-Kahn was the first IMF director in my lifetime, if memory serves, who disavowed the traditional IMF policy of imposing on the poor and ordinary people the cost of bailing out Wall Street and the Western banks. Strauss-Kahn said that regulation had to be reimposed on the greed-driven, fraud-prone financial sector, which, unregulated, destroyed the lives of ordinary people. Strauss-Kahn listened to Nobel economist Joseph Stiglitz, one of a handful of economists who has a social conscience.

Perhaps the most dangerous black mark in Strauss-Kahn’s book is that he was far ahead of America’s French puppet, President Sarkozy, in the upcoming French elections. Strauss-Kahn simply had to be eliminated.

It is possible that Strauss-Kahn eliminated himself and saved Washington the trouble. However, as a well-travelled person who has often stayed in New York hotels and in hotels in cities around the world, I have never experienced a maid entering unannounced into my room, much less when I was in the shower.

In the spun story, Strauss-Kahn is portrayed as so deprived of sex that he attempted to violation a hotel maid. Anyone who ever served on the staff of a powerful public figure knows that this is unlikely. On a senator’s staff on which I served, there were two aides whose job was to make certain that no woman, with the exception of his wife, was ever alone with the senator. This was done to protect the senator both from female power groupies, who lust after celebrities and powerful men, and from women sent by a rival on missions to compromise an opponent. A powerful man such as Strauss-Kahn would not have been starved for women, and as a multi-millionaire he could certainly afford to make his own discreet arrangements.

As Henry Kissinger said, “power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.” In politics, sex is handed out as favors and payoffs, and it is used as a honey trap. Some Americans will remember that Senator Packwood’s long career (1969-1995) was destroyed by a female lobbyist, suspected, according to rumors, of sexual conquests of Senators, who charged that Packwood propositioned her in his office. Perhaps what inspired the charge was that Packwood was in the way of her employer’s legislative agenda.

Even those who exercise care can be framed by allegations of an event to which there are no witnesses. On May 16 the British Daily Mail reported that prior to Strauss-Kahn’s fateful departure for New York, the French newspaper, Liberation, published comments he made while discussing his plans to challenge Sarkozy for the presidency of France. Strauss-Kahn said that as he was the clear favorite to beat Sarkozy, he would be subjected to a smear campaign by Sarkozy and his interior minister, Glaude Gueant. Strauss-Kahn predicted that a woman would be offered between 500,000 and 1,000,000 euros (more than $1,000,000) to make up a story that he violated her. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1387625/IMF-chief-Dominique-Strauss-Kahn-feared-political-enemy-pay-woman-allege-violation.html

The Daily Mail reports that Strauss-Kahn’s suspicions are supported

by the fact that the first person to break the news of Strauss-Kahn’s arrest was an activist in Mr Sarkozy’s UMP party – who apparently knew about the scandal before it happened. Jonathan Pinet, a politics student, tweeted the news just before the New York Police Department made it public, although he said that he simply had a ‘friend’ working at the Sofitel where the attack was said to have happened. The first person to re-tweet Mr Pinet was Arnaud Dassier, a spin doctor who had previously publicised details of multi-millionaire Strauss-Kahn’s luxurious lifestyle in a bid to dent his left wing credentials.

Strauss-Kahn could just as easily been set up by rivals inside the IMF, as well as by rivals within the French political establishment.

Michelle Sabban, a senior councillor for the greater Paris region and a Strauss-Kahn loyalist said: ‘I am convinced it is an international conspiracy.’

She added: ‘It's the IMF they wanted to decapitate, not so much the Socialist primary candidate.

‘It's not like him. Everyone knows that his weakness is seduction, women. That's how they got him.’

Even some of Strauss-Kahn’s rivals said they could not believe the news. ‘It is totally hallucinatory,’ said centrist Dominique Paille.

‘If it is true, this would be a historic moment, but in the negative sense, for French political life. I hope that everyone respects the presumption of innocence. I cannot manage to believe this affair.’

And Henri de Raincourt, minister for overseas co-operation in President Nicolas Sarkozy's government, added: ‘We cannot rule out the thought of a trap.’

Michelle Sabban is on to something when she says the IMF was the target. Strauss-Kahn is the first IMF director who is not lined up on the side of the rich against the poor. Strauss-Kahn’s suspicions were of Sarkozy, but Wall Street and the US government also had strong reasons to eliminate him. Wall Street is terrified by the prospect of regulation, and Washington was embarrassed by the recent IMF report that China’s economy would surpass the US economy within five years. An international conspiracy is not out of the question.

Indeed, the plot is unfolding as a conspiracy. Authorities have produced a French woman who claims she was a near violation victim of Strauss-Kahn a decade ago. It would be interesting to know whether this allegation is the result of a threat or a bribe. As in the case of Julian Assange, there are now two women to accuse Strauss-Kahn. Once the prosecutors get the odds of two females against one male, they win in the media.

It has not been revealed how the authorities knew Strauss-Kahn was on a flight to France. However, by arresting him aboard his scheduled flight just as it was to depart, the authorities created the image of a man fleeing from a crime.

The way Amerikan justice (sic) works is that prosecutors in about 96 percent of the cases get a plea bargain. US prosecutors are permitted by judges and the public to pay for testimony against the defendant and to put sufficient pressure on innocent defendants to coerce them into making a guilty plea in exchange for lesser charges and a lighter sentence. Unless the hotel maid has a spell of bad conscience and admits she was paid to lie, or gets cold feet about perjuring herself, Strauss-Kahn is likely to find that Amerikan criminal justice (sic) is organized to produce conviction regardless of innocence or guilt.

On May 16, the day following Strauss-Kahn’s arrest, the US Supreme Court threw its weight behind the Amerikan police state by destroying the remains of the Fourth Amendment with an 8-1 ruling that, the U.S. Constitution notwithstanding, Amerika’s police do not need warrants to invade homes and search persons.

This ruling is more evidence that every American is regarded as a potential enemy of the state, not only by Airport Security but also by the high muckety-mucks in Washington. The conservatives’ “war on crime” has created a police state, and conservatives, who originally stood for limited government and civil liberty, are euphoric over the expanded and unaccountable powers that a conservative Supreme Court has handed to the police.

On the same day the federal government reached the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling, which forced the Treasury to “borrow” money from federal employee pensions in order to continue funding Amerika’s illegal wars and crimes against humanity. The breached debt ceiling serves as an appropriate marker for a country that has squandered its constitutional heritage and has arrived at moral as well as fiscal bankruptcy.

firstly are you nigerian?

If not then you are also an "outsider" - an outsider on a nigerian forum telling nigerians what they should and should not post on a site for nigerians - i find that quite ironic, dont you? cheesy

Secondly i posted this video clip in order to bring the story of congo to interested nigerians.

As you know the western press is not interested in the plight of the congolese people and thats why even africans on the same continent are totally ignorant of what is going on there I therefore find your comments really offensive - if you are a congolese and are fully aware of your history then good for you, this clip is not meant for you it is meant for concerned africans who want to find out the truth about what is really going on there and this video has been posted in order to create an awareness of the ongoing war.

if you dont want to watch it, kindly move along and allow others to do so.

oh and by the way I had a look at the links you posted - the first one was a link from a message board with no information about congo's history and the second was in french - is that your idea of informing non congolese people about the congo?

^As expected.

Anyways I have no interest in 'back and forthing' with you. I merely wanted to point out to silent readers the jungle logic you always use in approaching virtually every subject matter related to foreign affairs - "Blame the US". You say you're pointing out the "root cause" but from your very first post, no single mention or condemnation of the actual perpetrators - it was the same ol' sad song - blame America - insinuating into the argument that the r.apists are under some sort of spell or orders or 'it wasn't their fault violation occured since the US started it".

As long as you continue to yarn dust like this, people will continue to call you out in this section. I would hate for history to show that people on NL kept silent while such twisted propaganda was propagated.
As expected whathuh?

You have no interest "back and forthing" as you say because you are way out of your depth - you jumped headlong into a debate that you do not understand and started making ridiculous accusations.

Do you understand the history of the congo? no

are you interested in trying to understand it ? no

but in a bid to score brownie points from "silent NLrs"  you embarked on a pointless tirade about me DEFENDING ra.pe - how daft of you to think that i would overlook that.

I dont know when you became a mind reader to somehow decipher that i insinuated that "the rapi.sts were under some kind of spell" perhaps you can point out where i "insinuated" that in my posts !!!

You talk about me yarning dust - remember not too long ago an NLr told you to stop posting because your "knowledge and understanding of world affairs are extremely limited" - and im putting it nicely, perhaps you should take that posters advice - please in future when you see any of my posts remember this - you are not under any obligation to respond to them - thank you.

Honestly, the thing is truly unnerving. The logic is so warped that even if we concede that the US is funding these warlords, how does this excuse the actual r.apists who are r.aping their own mothers and sisters and daughters? Aren't they the ones doing it to their own people?

R.ape is such a terrible crime - the most terrible crime after murder. To exculpate from blame the demons who are committing the crime is just unacceptable. Its one thing to exhibit distrust and dislike towards Western powers - and its quite another to be so blinded in your antagonism to resort to such jungle logic. May God have mercy.
For someone who claims to be arguing from a point of reason or logic you dont seem to be making much sense here.

Let me break down what you are saying:

"okay so the US armed, funded and trained this militia who have created this envionment of anarchy - so what?

Is it the US govt that are carrying out the actual rape, murder and genocide ? No - since they're not physically involved in these crimes -why hold them accountable?

I know lets blame those africans, it doesnt matter how they got their weapons, money or training - lets just blame the africans".

By the way if you were a person capable of evaluating from a point of logic, reason and objectivity you would STOP MAKING EXCUSES FOR THE VERY PEOPLE WHO CREATE AN ENABLING ENVIRONMENT FOR MURDER, GENOCIDE AND R.APE TO FLOURISH.

You dont need to tell me that rap.e is a heinous crime i already know that - what is truly tragic is your inability to see that ra.pists, murderers and genocidists do not appear out of thin air, they are trained, funded and supported by an enabling environment.

I would like to beleive that your comprehension of the english language is above par and therefore i find it really odd that you have somehow confused my argument about looking at the root causes of the Congo crisis with me DEFENDING and even exonerating the rape of Congolese women by armed militia.

Before you use words that you do not understand like - exculpate try and find out what they mean - if you are confused please go back to my previous posts and re read them and you will find that the entire thrust of my argument is that the ROOT CAUSE OF THE WAR IN DRC is being overlooked by the western media while THE OUTCOME HAS NOW BECOME THE FOCUS.

No time. Why blame them when it was the US that supposedly ordered the man who ordered the man who order them to ra.pe those poor women? Our friend seriously believes the US Treasury or the CIA has been giving money to Kabila and Bemba and Onusumba and Nkunda and the other satanic warlords ruining Congo to do so. Once you have this belief, you stop thinking as nothing really matters. It is impossible to reason with you since you don't need any reasons to believe what you. How do you set about convincing a man whose dog is missing to look for it when he believes firmly that the Calabar taxi driver who drove his wife from the airport one month earlier and "eyed the dog one kin" must have returned last night to snatch the dog? Or that mosquitoes cause malaria and malaria kills people when he is sure that the elderly woman who lives nearby must have used witchcraft to kill his baby? Or someone who believes that a report is false because it is on BBC or CNN but true because it is on Press TV or some Russian website nobody has ever heard of?
how come you have suddenly found your voice?

I posed a series of questions to you yesterday and you failed to respond to any of them - now you come back with this lame response, is this how you deal with issues that you do not understand?
Foreign Affairs › Re: Worst Country To Be A Woman by cap28: 5:01pm On May 18, 2011

This is disturbing logic. Very disturbing logic.

The US over history has had a hand in contributing to the destabilization of the region - true. Did the US also order and force those poor excuses of men to pull out the diseased thing hanging btw their cursed legs and force it into defenseless women and girls? When the heck are you going to hold the people who actually commit these atrocities responsible for their own actions?
Your own logic is even more disturbing - why?

Because you have completely failed to understand  the underlying cause of the ra.pe, murder and genocide in the Congo and have instead taken the easy way out by focusing on an easily identifiable culprit without even appreciating that there is more to the situation in Congo than mass rap.e of vulnerable women.

Congo is in a state of anarchy which has made it possible for ra.pe, murder and genocide to flourish there, in order for these criminal acts to occur an environment conducive to such acts has to exist first.

ra.pe , murder and genocide occur in all war zones, if america were to be destabilised by an occupying force tomorrow, rap.e, murder and genocide would be the order of the day.

Instead of giving your usual knee jerk reaction why dont you think on a deeper level about why this is happening, for instance ask yourself these questions:

who is facilitating this break down of law and order? -

why are they doing it?

who stands to gain from it and how?

who is arming, training and funding  the militia that are terrorising innocent men women and children?

I look forward to hearing your response to those questions.

does anyone have any idea what it would mean if multinational corporations here in the west were allowed to exploit their employees the way they do  in third world countries, that would mean a return to the same living standards that many people lived under in the 19th and mid 20th century, where child labour was legal and where you could get beaten up by govt spies or goons for trying to form a workers collective or union- here in the west many people fought to get rid of these oppressive working conditions and i cant see anyone wanting a return to that period,

this is why govt workers in madison wisconsin in america came out en masse to challenge the governor's attempt to abolish collective bargaining rights - these are rights which have been in existence for years and protect workers from being treated in an unscrupulous manner by their employers, no right thinking person would give them up willingly, in nigeria workers do not have these luxuries -they are forced to put up with abusive and exploitative work practices - how can that be a positive thing?  the only people i see benefitting from this are coca cola's executives and their shareholders.
the best option open for the workers is to strike - i see no reason why they should carry on generating income and profit for employers who are unwilling to even treat them like human beings.

this is why multi nationals like coca cola love setting up business in nigeria - you can pay staff next to nothing, labour laws are extremely lax or non existent and the unions are completely powerless- its a win win situation for coca cola and a complete loss for the nigerian workers!!! thats how capitalism works and since the nigerian govt couldnt give a damn how much their citizens are exploited these types of working conditions will be on the rise.

The other day i was reading about an indian company based in lagos that was treating its nigerian workers like cattle and paying them next to nothing for working long hours.

This is why all the big multinationals have "outsourced" to africa and asia where you can treat workers like crap without having to worry about the consequences.

If you believe this, you'll believe anything.

Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, Imphal-Kohima among others, all campaigns in which the US forces routed the Japanese decisively.
A mainland invasion would have been bloody and costly, but by no means an insurmountable task. In terms of manpower, equipment and supplies, the US was clearly ahead.
Abeg go and read history books first before commenting.

PS: The atomic bomb had been tested before in the New Mexico desert. They knew very well its destructive power and its capability to produce deadly radiation.
On the first day of fighting in Iwo Jima america lost more casualties than they lost on D day - so im not sure why youve described that as a decisive victory.

At Okinawa over  79,000 american troops were killed or maimed - again far from a decisive victory, especially given that the americans unlike the japanese do not beleive in fighting to the death,

as the americans got ready to launch further attacks on japan they discovered that the japanese had mobilised over 2 million men who were prepared to defend their fatherland to the end.
there is no way the americans wanted to continue sustaining such heavy casualties, therefore it made perfect sense for them to avoid another huge round of casualites by dropping the a bomb on hiroshima.

by the way in the case of guadcanal - the allied soldiers vastly outnumbered the japanese and therefore that particular battle does not paint an accurate picture of america's military capability.

yes the bomb had already been tested in the new mexico desert but the americans also wanted to demonstrate their military superiority to the russians (whom they were later to enter into a cold war with)  -what better way to do it than by dropping the bomb on hiroshima and nagasaki?

Amongst the many prominent people involved in the plunder of the DRC are Belgian nationals like Louis Michel, Étienne Davignon, Philippe de Moerloose and Andre Flahaut, and U.S. nationals like Henry Kissinger, Bill Richardson and Maurice Tempelsman. The interests of the Royal Family of Belgium are also involved. The predatory meddling and plundering of such people is rendered invisible by the international "community"-press, think-tanks, non-government organizations, foreign policy institutes and especially by academia-e.g. anthropology, international relations, political science, and African affairs departments.
With help from his "friends" behind the scenes, Joseph Kabila outmaneuvered Jean-Pierre Bemba to "win" the "historic national elections" of 2006, Congo's first since so-called independence in 1960. The two warlords-Kabila and Bemba-were competing to be the new Black Face of Congo presented to the world by the great white Anglo-European fathers.

Like academic institutions and African Studies departments all over America and Europe, the so-called "human rights" and "humanitarian" organizations gloss over, ignore or completely mask the realities of Western manipulation and control. The media reports the corporate line, full of tribalism and savagery and ebola viruses.

Many of the same families behind the European colonial enterprise-rooted in slavery, white supremacy and terror-are behind the warlords in Congo today.[b] The mainstays of exploitation, like the interests of former Belgian Barons or the Ministers of Colonies, have morphed into more insidious corporate entities. New players have dislodged some interests, like the [b]Israeli-Americans dealing in blood diamonds through the Tel Aviv diamond exchange with the support of the White House. And now China is deeply involved in the fray, but that's another story, another page to be unturned, and a hidden history to be excavated from the rubble of Central Africa.

It has often been stated that Joseph Kabila-whoever he is-had no choice but to assume the post he was pushed into as President of DRC. For Joseph Kabila to complain, balk or resist the machinations of power in any way, people close to him say, would mean his certain death.
