No ooo, he would pass it, because that was his last chance, and he was very popular in school....

But being a doctor is not just by having the certificate or whatever.....

It entails alot of things: commitment, discipline, respect for the medical elders, updating yourself always, in fact the medical career is killing....

Sometimes I also ask myself why I ventured into this stuff in the first place.....
hmmmm u wanna discourage me oooo, #medaspirant

hey! Am in 400l UNTH.
Been reading thru d thread and i gotta say its quite interestn.
My advice to new med sttdnt: read/study like ur life depends on it, and also pray cos we need God in everythng. And abt wat to read, well read up ur notes, and text books... 'NEVER READ TO PASS EXAMS' Rather READ TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE cos wen u knw d stuff, there aint no way ur failn.
For DE, its better to just get a Cambridge A'level...its a sure bet. I mean i did dat and got in with no stress watsoever... Cya
ehm, a guy got 207 in this last Jamb, Unn medicine and surgery, he's from TARABA state( I heard people from educationally less developed states are favoured to some extent).. what do u think, can he be given medicine with such low score in jamb? What is Cambridge A'level?

Hey docs, how u'all doinghuh

The art and practice of medicine is a noble one, dating back since the time of man.... In fact, saving a life is like saving the whole of mankind!!!

Please, nobody should read medicine and surgery because of the money, prestige of being called "Dr. Something" or because u think u can hook a lot of babes with it. Go for it because u want to save a life, or u are doing it for God.

Don't mind the fact that u read another course before coming back for medicine.... In fact, there are a lot of pple overseas who had their Ph.D in the arts, but still came back for medicine, why? Because of the passion, the zeal, and the dexterity of the noble profession!!!

This is for those that read economics, engineering, etc.... Do not lose hope, you are highly welcome into the profession!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!
okay, this guy experiences fits like an epileptic, he shakes and bites his tongue to bleeding, and he usually feels so weak after each experience. One strange thing about it is that it only occurs at night, never happens in the day.. what can u say about this Dr?

There are many specialties in medicine and surgery, the core ones are pathology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, medicine, surgery and community health

Pathology specialties include hematology, microbiology, histopathology, and chemical pathology

Medicine and paediatrics have the same specialties, only that paediatrics deal with children, while internal medicine deals with adults, the specialties include neurology, psychiatry, pulmonology, cardiology, gastroenterology, nephrology, and endocrinology

Obstetrics and gynecology is a major surgical specialty

Other surgical specialties include neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, urology, orthopaedics, paediatric surgery, plastic surgery, and the sub-specialties I listed earlier..

Community health is a major branch of medicine....
what's community health about?

When I entered the cadaver lab, I stood still for a while....

The sight was horrific...

The stench was horrendous.....

You will see cadavers with centipedes crawling out of their eye sockets....

Maggots popping out as you dissect.....

And guess what, the first day I was there, I saw a lecturer eating donught beside a cadaver.....

And since then, I became a man!!!
so one should forget Medicine if he isn't man enough to stand cadavers?

WELCOME TO DA CLUB!!!!! I promise u will hav an unforgettable experience as u start ur journey....

Since u r a fresher, u will resume 100L studying the basic sciences I.e physics, chemistry and biology, maybe maths (we don't do maths in unilorin). Then u spend the next two years (the preclinical years) studying the basic medical sciences I.e anatomy, physiology and biochenistry. In unilorin, we also do a bit of behavioural sciences, microbiology, epidemiology and a WHO program called COBES.

Now, when u get to 400L, you will do harder basic sciences: pathology and pharmacology, but u will also be introduced to the clinical sciences: medicine surgery, paediatrics and obstetrics and gynaecology. Finally in your last two years, yow will deal with only clinical sciences, including the surgical specialties, community health and psychiatry. Making a total of 6yrs.

After graduation, u will be pre-registered into the MDCN (medical and dental council of nigeria) and start your housemanship for one full year (don't worry, u will be paid salary), then you will go for service, but be preparing to write your primaries exam, in order for u to specialize in your place of interest I.e surgery, am I correcthuh

Well, that's that for now...

This all started when he was in SS3 and now he's almost in 200 level. He periodically has seizures(shakes and bites sides of tongue to bleed orally) just like an epileptic but it never happens during the day, they only happen at midnight when he's asleep. His family has no history of epilepsy at all, in fact he's the first in his family with such ailment.. What can this be called? Because I'm sure its not epilepsy.. how can it be cured??

[quote author=Chuukwudi post=34171584] That's not true. The thing is that we always have hectic courses, sometimes two in one course. The worst part is that they will just attach two Units to it. We offer about 10 courses per semester of which 6 or more have practicals. We read, we really study, just to get a brief overview of the course and carry along with the lecturer but when exam mode is activated, our brains become sharp like a razor blade, we cover a whole course in a night before the exam, this is what we can't do ordinarily. But exam mode is real. It is great.,..,
