BluntTheApostle: It is the same for men.
If you watch Judge Judy, you will see husbands and wives taking each other to court over very trivial issues. I have even watched cases of mothers taking their own daughters to court over rent.
But in Nigeria, we consider it to be washing one's dirty linen outside.
Even involving police in a supposed family matter can create discord in the family. It doesn't matter whether it is the man or woman that is doing it. It has nothing to do with masculinity, but more to do with our culture.
I remembered using police to arrest an associate who was a fellow pastor when I was still pastoring. The man swindled me of some amount of money, and still went ahead to be threatening me via SMS.
On the day he was taken to the police station, our head pastor and some church council members came to the police station. They were so angry with my decision that none of them said hello to me.
Then, we had a PFN district meeting the next day, and the head pastor made his grievances known. His anger was that I disrespected him (as an elder) by bypassing him to go and involve the police. That I dragged the name of the district in the mud. He was not even concerned about the gravity of the offense of the pastor. It's never the same for men. Men are not held to any accountability. This very man in this story can decide to leave the marriage one day and still proceed to marry 2 to 3 times over. |

BluntTheApostle: First of all, Nigeria is not a country where you are encouraged to dabble into such a matter.
If the drunk calls the police, and somehow gets the wife to support him by corroborating whatever statement against you, you will join go to prison for nothing.
One thing I have noticed since I have been linking victims of abuse with human rights lawyers is that the women don't always help you to help them. I have since stopped wasting my time.
You will rescue a woman from an abusive husband, and then mobilize police to arrest the man. Then after everyone has written statements, the wife will suddenly say she is not interested in dragging case with her husband. If you insist, even the police will turn against you and wonder why you are getting too much involved in a family matter that shouldn't concern you.
My brother, next time, don't seize someone's property, not in Nigeria. Return the phone and mind your business. Don't ever take the law into your hands, no matter how little of the law you took.
If you feel seriously about the matter, report at the police station. Let the police do their job. You will be surprised that the police may even tell you that it is not their job to dabble into such a matter.
And really, can you blame the police? So many times, they have disturbed with cases that have a history of never going anywhere. Many domestic violence cases are reported at the police station. I have done my own fair share of reporting. But when it is time to walk the talk, the woman will back down and make you look like you are poking your noses in a business that does not concern you. This is usually after the IPO has listened to arguments and counter arguments for hours, and taken bashings left and right from the DCP who usually wants a case to be resolved quickly. If you already know that a case is likely never to go far, where would you find the motivation to put heart and soul into it?
Now, can one also blame the wife? No. Due to our collectivist African culture, it is usually considered demeaning for a woman to take her husband (family) to court, and vice versa. It is considered the same as dragging the name of the family in the mud. Blame it on toxic masculinity and stupid traditional practices. Woman have no rights to leave toxic marriages cause of the stigma attached. No woman enjoys been beating. |

pkasso: I would love to see this. The Laws of The Game need a shake-up and i like that managers are speaking up about things like this. A few days ago, it was Nagelsmann calling for change and inclusion of more technology, even going as far as suggesting a player wearing earpieces, so the coach can pass tactical information to them.
The guys at IFAB need to come up with innovative rules that will encourage attacking football and make the game more exciting. The last major rule made in this regard was the backpass rule and that was a long time ago.
I think what Pioli meant was when you cross the halfway line with the ball, you can't play it back into your own half. Like in basketball. This means players are encouraged or in this case forced to come up with attacking solutions and not just pass the ball all the way back when they run out of ideas. Adding a shot clock would also spice things up. Say, 15s to get the ball out, and 45s to attempt a shot. Again, like in basketball You can imagine the excitement that such open, end-to-end games would generate. Why not bring a shot clock, backcourt violation, 4 quarters, change the goal to a basket high in the air, change the pitch size so it's smaller and make it wooden, make the teams smaller from 11 to 5, make it so you use your hands and not your feet and you got something very interesting. |

It was Interesting to see how Kanté was deployed as one of the advanced midfielders yesterday like how Sarri used to play him. Allows him to press even further up and negates his lack of ball-playing ability by having Jorginho and Kovačić behind him. It's something we could try more. |

donjazet: I didn't want to say this on Saturday because I wanted to really enjoy our victory. But it has to be said that it didn't sit right with me seeing that 100ft banner of mason mount in the stands which the club unfurled. Such banners are unfurled for players who have reached a certain status with the club (legendary), but it seems that a section or certain individuals within the club are desperate to make mason mount the face of Chelsea football club and that is my grouse. Does he really deserve such an honor YET? What has he done separately from the rest of the players?? On what ground is he being singled out as special??
Is it because he is an academy player?? Then what about Reece James, Hudson odoi, Andreas Christensen. Some of who were arguably more instrumental to the club than him. Why does it have to be the local white boy that is singled out and not the rest? Why didn't they make it like "a class of 2015" or something??
Is it his performance?? Lol let's not even go there. His stats for the club so far are very mediocre for an attacker of a big club. I don't actually fault him here. I believe he is developing and as such still has time to improve and start giving us at least a 30 Goals\assists season. But that's the thing, he isn't there yet. So why single him out.
You guys should get this, it's okay for our players too be acknowledged and appreciated but unfurling a 100ft banner goes beyond this. It's whole different level. It's usually done as a cementing of legendary status. It's something that is done for a very few players and I do not believe that Mason mount deserves that honor yet.
If our captain of this modern era, Cesar Azpilicueta who got to be who he is and where he is by virtue of hardwork, consistency, durability and versatility hasn't got his own banner, then why mason mount? If our own vice captain, jorginho who has just become the European best player (the first for us) and a top 4 balond'or nominee didn't have a banner, then why mason mount? Please note that this is not a complaint of Mason mount or a direct comparison with any other player. I recognize that mount has no control over who plans or unveils his banner. I'm calling out the powers that be who made this move. I believe it's a terrible agenda being peddled by a group who is desperate to sell this player as the face of our club. The ones who award him the player of the year when he is obviously not. The influencers who want to overhype his abilities most especially when he hasn't started living up to it.
Again, I do hope and pray he eventually becomes one of the best in the world in his position. One we can all proudly call our own but he isn't yet which is why these moves are premature. All these could even end up having adverse effects on the player vis a vis an overinflated ego or an overwhelming feeling of self importance and being untouchable, not to talk of potential squad disharmony. Of course, these are purely assumptions but we've seen where these kind of things are only catalysts for problems. Who told you the bold and have you been to Stamford bridge before? |
