God pass man last last Teams Messi Played to win Copa America. Plus highest goals and assist. Uruguay. Paraguay. Chile. Bolivia. Ecuador Colombia and Brazil. Teams Ronaldo played to win Euros. With zero personal accolades Iceland Hungary Austria Croatia Poland Wales. France (he ran away in the the first 20 minutes) So which of these line up of teams is more formidable.? No be penalty Messi miss for 2016?
This proves the initial point. E for rubbish Copa America the way he has rubbished penalties Copa America dont have Plumbers from mighty Luxembourg, kosova, Faroe Island, Moldova, Mecedonia, Montenegro, San Marino, Lithuania, Albania, Latvia, Gilberater, Armenia, Liechtenstein, Malta, Georgia, Estonia, Azerberjan, Belarus and Cyprus. If Messi plays these countries he will have 400 international goals |

You don come out as CR7 fans...........nice one
some guys still claiming Maradona and Pele fans Messi won U-20 World Cup as best player. Messi won Olympic Gold medal as the best player. Messi Won Copa America as the best player, Top scorer and top assist. Messi dragged Argentina to world cup final as the best player. Ronaldo's only lucky Euro win he finished 3rd in group stage consisting of Hungary, Austria and Iceland. He was carried by Eder and Renato. Scored only against farmers like Hungary and Wales. Since Figo, Rui costa, Maniche, Deco, Cavahlo and Pauleta retired Ronaldo cannnot lead Portugal pass R-16. Ronaldo played in 2004 Olympics and crashed out in group stage. Ronaldo Fan boy are saying Copa America is nothing but Ronaldo won Euros by finishing 3rd in Group stage, playing "Superpowers" like iceland, Hungary, Austria, Croatia, Poland and Wales. The only decent team Portugal played which is France, he ran away in the first half for Eder to give him the Cup. Since the last 3/4 years Ronaldo only score tap ins and penalties agaisnt European superpowers like San Marino, Kosovo, Moldova, Faroe Island, Lithuania, Macedonia, Luxembourg, Iceland and co. |

TheLequte: This has nothing to do with the discussion I’ve been having wirh Patrick and Joe but it’s actually funny that Messi’s team usually go up in the first leg of a UCL knockout tie and then crumble in the return leg.
With CR7, his team usually goes 2 or 3 goals down in the first leg and he scores an hattrick in the return leg to take them through. Wakanda player is that??!! How many times have Ronaldo's team gone 3 goals down and he returned to score hatrick? Even the 2 goals down how many times? |

patrickmuf: When Messi was asked to first win an international competition before he could lay claim to the title of G.O.A.T., what international competition was being referred to? The only ones he can participate in away from the World cup is the Copa which for some weird reason is now trash...The others are of the junior category which he played and won (U-20 and Olympics)...
Since you are saying Brazil doesn't give a damn about the Copa, can we then start rating the Olympics because prior to when Neymar led them to their first and only Olympic title, they have always assembled their best available team for the Olympics...
Even in Nigeria, the mention of Atlanta 96 comes with some form of nostalgic feeling...
I am certain if Portugal wins the Olympics with Ronaldo starring, we won't hear the last of it for days running to weeks and months... You guys have time to argue with Ronaldo fan boys. All that's just needed is 3-4yrs from now and they'll be distinct difference between FIFA award and balon dor award clearly.
When such comes, everybody will recognise who won FIFA award in 2021 and not who won balon dor. Just like same way Ronaldinho won balon dor in 2006 but everybody knows about canavaro who won the FIFA world best award Cannavaro won both Ballon dor and Fifa World Footballer of the year award in 2006. A good example was when CR7 won the Balon d'or at United, it was seen as a normal achievement cos other United players had won it in the past. As soon as he was named Fifa World Player of the Year, the celebration started and he became the first and only Player to Win it in the EPL. Fifa best player and Balon d'or was merged awhile back, but the merger was discontinued soon after. Fifa World Player of the Year over Balon d'or anytime, anywhere.... raumdeuter: Maybe Etoos son was not good enough to represent Spain. You think if Kante Pogba Zidane were representing Guinea Algeria and Congo anyone would be mentioning them?
Remember George Weah your first example of patriotism? and current president of Liberia, I will think this icon of patriotism son will be playing for Liberia, yet he is representing the USA.
Do you think any of the Ayews is talented enough to make the French team?. Was Mejbri talented enough to have broken into a top team in Europe?
Haaland was born in UK and according to wiki was taken to Norway at age 3. I am sure Haaland cannot remember anything about growng up before age 3 in England, All his memories are from Norway and the country he feels very Norwegian just like Osaze born in Uzbekistan but by age 2, he was moved back to Naija so most of his growing up was in Nigeria
So imagine for Naija dressing room boys begin blow Yoruba Igbo Hausa and pidgin and you want Saka to be blowing cockney accent there? How will he even connect with the fans Samuel Etoos son and Mejbri are still very young, they only made their choices early not becuase they are not good enough. At what age did Trippier made his England debut? Abedi's children might not be superstars now but it was their parents who insisted they represent Ghana, they started from junior age grade when it was not even clear how their careers will pan out. You can't predict how Etoos son career will be likewise Mejbri, so for them making thier choices early rather then based on neccesity is clear patriotism. How will Zidane and co not be mentioned? Wasnt Etoo, Drogba and Sallah mentioned despite representing lower contries? George weah did not represent France before he won Ballon dor. Stars can emerge anywhere. Dwight Yorke came from Trinidad and Tobago yet he had an excellent career and was recognised. |

raumdeuter: The only reason CHO and Zaha went back to Africa was because they didnt stand a chance with their European country. If they had been given a chance earlier, they would never consider it. That is the same way some of those guys use our head in Africa
When its time for world cup, Joel Matip and Kevin prince Boateng knowing they wont make German team quickly adopted their African country they didnt know about, After world cup and its time for AFCON qualifiers to Burundi, Malawi etc they quickly announced their international retirements.
I will rather respect those Saka Tammy etc that were honest and stayed with their country of birth than one coming here to use the head of Africans thereby one guy who suffered qualifiers riguors will get dropped for new guy wey just discover his heritage
Na so Efan Ekoku, Mike Emenalo dem take chance Nduka Ugbade for US 94 squad. Ugbade who would have been the first Nigerian to play for every level of FIFA tournament U17 captain, U21, U23 and senior team lost his place to guys who only remembered us when we qualified for world cup You made a very good points, but i didnt say Saka should sit his Ass in England while others qualify for world cup only to come and play. The qualifiers are now people like him can make themselves available like Iwobi and Victor Moses did. |

raumdeuter: I disagree.
These Naija boys were probably born in the UK, they probably have never lived in Nigeria beyond the random 2weeks to 2months holidays every 5yrs(if that much), They probably cannot speak any Nigerian local dialect fluently. So what makes it home for them vs A country they went to daycare, went to primary to secondary, played academy football, have friends, and everything. Basically, they become who they are today because of the investment UK made into their lives
It's understandable for someone like you to choose Nigeria because you have connections to Nigeria but your son who was born and bred abroad will pick Nigeria a country his own father left in his youth?
So by the same token, you will be expecting Rio Ferdinand to play for StLucia, Sancho, and Rashford to play for Jamaica or some Caribbean country? Rio and Sancho's ancestors might have moved to UK long time ago, so must have been diluted. I heard Saka's father was born in Nigeria. Like i said i will persuade my soon to play for Nigeria. I will teach him my local Dialect and engrain him into our culture. Samuel Etoo came to Spain as a 16 year old, his son was born and bread in spain. He son is representing cameroon. Why didn't his son chose spain. Abedi Pele gave birth to all his sons in France. All of them are playing for Ghana, theirs was never out of neccesity they bled Ghana. Wasnt Halaand born in the UK? Why is he not plYing for England? Our star boy Mejbri was clearly born and bred in Europe he chose Tunisia immediately before his career even started. It all depends on the orientation by the parents and the mentality. |

GloryIsaac: The players mentioned are all African-born, and spent considerable time in their native nations before moving. 16+.
South Americans have strong teams capable of contending on the international stage, so it makes sense to represent them. Same can’t be said for African teams.
If Nigeria becomes a force to contend with on the international stage, the World Cup, then same can happen. Yeah Paraguay, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Ecuador usually go far in World cups. Which of these countries have performed considerably better than Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal in world cup recently. What are theeir chances of winning it |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by CapitalCee(m): 9:10pm On Jul 12, 2021 |
GloryIsaac: In most cases, those who choose to play for their motherland do so for these reasons;
1. Not good enough for their adopted team. 2. Good enough but tough competition in adopted team. Means might not get a lot of international caps.
These reasons are at the root of it, the ‘patriotism’ talk is just a deflection.
If a player is assured of his place in the national team of his adopted country, and they have a better chance of going far in the tournament, he will represent them.
Also put into consideration that these adopted countries were the ones who groomed the player. Most start at U13s or U16s I believe.
Ofcourse, there are exceptions to this, but they are rare.
P.S. Falcao would have had to compete with Fernando Torres and David Villa for a starting berth with Spain. Doubt the success rate if he tried in 2007. Its not always true bro, there are many folks who decided for to trace their origin despite that. |

benji93: As one other person suggested, If those folks can do it, why not ours. Please don't come with the it's just not worth it argument. You must think some of these South American countries don't have their national team problems. Most of them still go home regardless. You are making millions for crying out loud. It would be nice if some of us in the diaspora do something tangible to help and not just rant on social media, as most do. Most importantly encourage your kids. Instil patriotism(with some those care ) in them. For a significant number of diasporans, na village people dey live for Nigeria. In the abroad after living for a few years the spirit of condescension descends on them. The thing dey pain and vex me at the same time.
Disclaimer: I am not saying it's a wrong decision. For me it's neither right nor wrong. I am not putting money in their pockets. Leave them na. Go to Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile etc and see how those countries are even Mexico. They have more national deffieciencies than us yet they still go back home and whenever they are representing their country they exude patriotism. If George Weah with all his Ballon dor should chose Liberia thats into war with very despicable leaders then why not these Nigerians abroadians? Etoo, Drogba, Okocha and Kanu are african legends and are recognised as such. So why didnt these people chose foreign countries so they can be secured.
