Politics / PSP Truck Kills Lagos APC Council Chairmanship Aspirant by CarmelloANGEL(m): 12:53pm On Jul 22, 2017
Tragedy struck on the eve of local government council election in Lagos State as a PSP truck crushed a chairmanship aspirant of the Ikotun/Igando Local Council Development Area to death.

The deceased, Shakiru Balogun, aka SAB, was a former Chairman, National Union of Local Government Employees of the LCDA and a member of the All Progressives Congress. He couldn’t clinch the party’s ticket at the primaries.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the aspirant was going to the council secretariat around 12pm on Friday when the driver of the PSP truck lost control of the truck and rammed it into Balogun’s Toyota 4runner at Okofili Bus Stop, LASU-Isheri Road.

An eyewitness, Fadeyi Daisi, said 52-year-old Balogun died on the spot.

He added, “The PSP driver fled the scene, but I don’t know if he was later arrested by the police. It was very tragic. The door of the sport utility vehicle was cut with a saw before emergency officials could extricate his body.”
A resident of Abu Taiwo Street, Afolabi Bus Stop, Akesan, where Balogun lived, Joshua Ogundipe, said the incident had thrown the community into mourning.

Ogundipe added, “He accepted defeat at the primaries in good faith. He was going to the office when the incident happened. He is survived by two wives and four children. He had been buried according to Islamic rite.”

A sympathiser, Oyejobi Olakunle, described SAB’s death as a colossal loss.

“What a great loss to our entire generation. Your indelible mark lives on. #SobbingMode#

WhatAgreatLoss,” Olakunle wrote on Facebook.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole could not be reached for comments.

Kaffy8910:

Please kindly help out. My Facebook was working with naira but it got to the end of the end month, my payment was declined, meaning I am still owing. So I tried using another method, my page has an admin, which her account is on dollar. I was asked the billing country and billing zip code, will the country be US or Nigeria. If Nigeria, it doesn't require a zip code. Somebody should please help.

I'm so sorry, I'm just seeing this. Have you been able to sought the payment?
Your billing Country should be Nigeria if you are here in Nigeria and using a Nigeria Bank Debit/Credit Card. It will still charge you the Dollar equivalent.

It shouldn't require any zip code. If it does, just put 23401

Let me know if u have any other issue

Ayomepa:
Pleas I need further clarification on this. Will I be charged $200 by access bank every month for using their Visa Naira Debit Card online?

No sir, what it means is that if you are a regular shopper on foreign sites like Amazon, EBay etc, or you pay for Google Ads or FB ads or do any foreign online transaction, E.g send money via PayPal etc using ur Naira denominated debit/credit card (Normal ATM card) then you can't do more than $200 worth of transaction if you are an Access bank customer or $100 if GTB customer for any particular Month

It means in a Month, you cannot exceed your bank's foreign transaction limit.

So let's assume in the Month of November you've already spent $120 from ur Access bank card, then you have just $80 left for the month, so if you see a book for $100 on Amazon and wants to buy, you can't use that card again except if you wait till nxt month when you'll have another $200 to spend or you go for a book of $80 which is what you have left as ur limit for the month.

At the moment, Access is #325 to $1 and GTB #320 to $1

Please what card would you advise me to use?? Most Cards are declining

I think you can only use Access or GTB for now, they are the 2 Banks I'm aware still allow you pay on foreign websites with your Naira MasterCard/Visa Card.

Access - $200/Month, GTB - $100/Month.

Other banks have suspended this activity
Politics / Patience Jonathan: The $15m Were Gifts From Friends & Well-wishers Over 15 Years by CarmelloANGEL(m): 5:46pm On Oct 20, 2016
Wife of former Nigerian President, Patience Jonathan has explained in details how she accumulated in 15 years over $15million in bank accounts linked to her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The detail was given in court papers filed by Union of Niger Delta Youth Organisation for Equity, Justice and Good Governance on behalf of the former First Lady, against the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) .

The suit with number FHC/L/CS/1349/2016 before a Federal High Court in Lagos, accuses SERAP of using online, print and electronic media to publish to the public unfounded and malicious allegations that she stole $15m (US), urging for her prosecution.
"The funds in question were legitimate gifts from her friends and well-wishers over the last 15 years which she had been saving in order to utilize to upgrade family businesses and concerns which had been somewhat dormant by reason of the long period of her husband service as a public officer in Nigeria.

"The gifts were given in small contributions by several persons some of whom she cannot even now recall over this period of 15 years sometimes in as small a gift as N250,000 Naira. In order to preserve the value of these funds which she did not require for any purpose at the time she changed them into foreign exchange and kept them as cash for a long period in her home safe in Port Harcourt and Abuja.

"It was when the family home in Otuoke was burnt down by hoodlums under the instigation of political adversaries in 2010 that she began to think about banking these gifts which had now grown to large sums in United States Dollars. In 2010 she therefore summoned one of her husband’s domestic aides, Waripamo-Owei Emmanuel Dudafa to assist her in opening bank accounts into which the funds could be deposited

"Unknown to her the said Dudafa in a bid to be discreet about the owner of the funds decided to bank the funds in the names of companies owned by him. When she discovered this she was constrained to continue with the names of the companies when she was advised that it did not make any difference as to the ownership of the funds since the director of the company would appoint her as sole signatory to the accounts in question

"When in 2016 Dudafa was arrested and detained she had no fear for the funds as she realized that the funds could not be attributable to him once it was discovered that she was the sole signatory to the said accounts. It was therefore a rude shock to her when she discovered that a no transaction order had been placed on the accounts by the EFCC in the belief that the funds belonged to Dudafa.

"She instructed her solicitors to further write to the EFCC to inform them that the funds belong to her and that they formed a part of her legitimate earnings over the last 15 years. It was this letter that was leaked by the EFCC to the media that became sensationalised and led to the plaintiff’s vilification and attack by ignorant persons who had no information about the matter
"SERAP is playing to the public gallery in order to gain the notoriety it has achieved over the past years. SERAP has done this mostly by intervening in high profile issues without regard to the rights of persons it claims to protect. SERAP jumped into the fray of ignorant accusations being made against Mrs Dame Patience Jonathan in the public media and has begun a campaign of calumny against her using online, print and electronic media to publish to the public unfounded and malicious allegations that she stole the funds in question and ought to be prosecuted.".

Naira Appreciates on Parallel Market as Travelex Commences Dollar Sales to BDCs

Relief appears to have come the way of the naira, which had been under attack on the parallel market FX in the past few days as the currency strengthened to N473 to the dollar yesterday, from N475 to the dollar, it closed the previous day.

The appreciation of the naira followed the implementation of a new arrangement between the Centrak Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Travelex, a global foreign exchange (forex) dealer.

Also, on the interbank FX market, the spot rate of the naira climbed to N307 to the dollar yesterday, compared to the N311 to the dollar it closed the previous day.
Clearly, the appreciation of the nation’s currency was buoyed by the announcement yesterday that Travelex would today start disbursing $15,000 to each of the 3,000 registered Bureaux De Change (BDC) operators.

Global foreign exchange (forex) dealer, Travelex, will today disburse a total of $45million dollars to licensed Bureaux De Change (BDC) operators in the country..

President, Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria (ABCON), Aminu Gwadabe, who disclosed this yester day, said that Travelex will disburse $15,000 to each of the 3,000 registered BDC operators, adding that with each of the 3,000 BDCs getting $15,000 each, $45 million will flow into the system today. Gwadabe commended the CBN for authorising Travelex to take responsibility of disbursing huge dollar inflows from the Diaspora estimated at $21 billion annually to BDCs.

He said the development, would deepen dollar liquidity in the system and strengthen the naira against the dollar.

The local currency had been on a free fall on the parallel market in recent weeks, losing about 15 per cent of its value to drop to a record low of N490/dollar at some point. Gwadabe said the experience and integrity of Travelex would be key in getting the dollars to BDCs.

Politics / Ondo People Are Bastards, Betrayers – APC Aspirant Blasts After Losing Primary by CarmelloANGEL(m): 7:52am On Sep 06, 2016
A governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo state, Jamiu Afolabi Ekungba, has reportedly described people of the state as bastards, saying he will never help an Ondo indegine going forward.
Ekungba made the statement after he lost out in the party’s primary election held during the weekend.

About 23 aspirants under the APC filed out for the primary election which saw Rotimi Akeredolu emerging as the winner, polling 669 votes. Dr. Segun Abraham emerged as the second with a total of 635 votes.

The aspirant from Owo, upon realizing that he scored less than 50 votes stormed out of the venue of the primary election and caused a scene.

He further vowed never to help any indigene of the state because he was badly treated at the election.

Ekungba was quoted as saying, “I am highly disappointed in the people of Ondo, they are bastards and betrayals,” he reportedly said, adding that the people turned their backs on him when it mattered most and after he had spent over N300 million on them.

“They deceived me. I spent over N300million naira on reaching out to each of the delegates alone.

“Even before the primaries, I had spent millions of naira. After collecting my money, they gave me just 44 votes.

“From today, I will never help any Ondo State indigene. I’ll rather give out my money to the Hausa beggars on the street.”

I tried with StanbicIBTC yet it was declined

Apologies but I really don't get your post. Were you trying to add a payment and was declined or trying to switch from Naira to Dollars.

Stanbic has always worked in both cases. But if you are only trying to add a new payment option and Stanbic was rejected, then you might want to try GTB.

You can only use GTB for Dollar payment tho, but their exchange rate is something else...another reason I dropped them.

But no harm in trying.

I really pray and seriously hope they don't flag that new account again. Facebook already knows it's you. You can hardly beat them.

They normally won't flag the account immediately, it's after you make your few first payments after reaching your threshold that they swing into action.

Please do any one know anything about yoghurt production.
I want to establish a medium scale yoghurt processing plant,i have a start up capital in hand and looking for how to go about it.
It's a great idea, something I'm also interested in, but I'm not ready now.

What I'll suggest is you Google stuffs about Yogurt production in Nigeria but more importantly, visit some of the factories and have words with people. Be ready to pay for information because that's what you need. You can't always rely on online materials if you are serious about starting a project like this.

Go to people who have experience in production, distribution, sales e.t.c.
Also make sure you visit like 3-5 different factories to get all the facts and stats you need even if it means traveling outside your state of residence.

Terrible. I couldn't do same yesterday. My own problem is that my account for ads was flagged. I have appealed though and I hope to get it back because the paypal used for that account couldn't be used again.
It's always a huge problem whenever ur FB account is flagged. Facebook dosnt have a good customer support team like Google.
It may take upto 2 weeks before they even answer you, and they may not even lift the suspension.

Facebook dosnt really like it when you use PayPal, they prefer credit cards. But then what's your offence? Is your ad against their policy or what.

I pray u get it resolved and ur account reactivated else, that may be the end of u ever advertising on FB.
You should knw u can't open a new account, open 10 accounts and they'll knw it's you and still flag it.
I'm talking from personal experience.

DadojoReloaded:
Some weeks ago, there was a post here stating that facebook now charges Nigerian advertisers in Naira. Due to the excitement generated by this news, I proceeded to change my billing currency on facebook from USD to NAIRA. And my account had to be reset!

I started seeing my adverts served in Naira and it was easy for me to estimate how much I was spending on ads. After spending a certain amount in NAIRA, I decided to offset part of the amount I owe facebook, only to discover that I could no longer make payments with the same first bank Naira Master Card which I was using to pay for my ads when my account was in USD.

It's about a week now and I have been unable to make payments for my facebook adverts. All my ads have been rendered inactive because facebook says I owe them.

Please does anyone know how I can go about restoring things back to normal?

I have tried changing the account billing to USD, but I can't still pay in dollars. It keeps saying The Card was Declined.

lalasticlala come oo

I just saw this, so let me quickly tell you what I knw which has been working.

1) Basically, switching currencies means ur ads will be reset and you'll start afresh, so don't be surprised when that happens.

2) You can not switch until you balance your initial payment, which means if you owe in dollars, you have to clear ur bill first before switching to Naira...and vice versa. So u can't go back to paying in dollars until u clear out ur outstanding Naira payment.

3) To the bone of contention... To pay in Naira, you need a Stanbic IBTC account and their Master Card. They'll debit you the Naira you owe directly from your account.
It's not FB's fault that they can't debit ur first bank card, all those banks intentionally blocked that option out because the preferred people paying in dollars so that they can set the exchange rate and make inordinate gains.

Only Stanbic and UBA debits in Naira now directly as at now ( can't say what will happen tomorrow).
But Stanbic in better than UBA because UBA still removes some extra charges after debiting the real money, something Stanbic doesn't do.

I don't work for Stanbic, I only use their services because their exchange rate is one of the lowest in the country now...from what I know.

Good luck.

Politics / Constitution Review: Senate Disagrees Over Life Pension For Presiding Officers by CarmelloANGEL(m): 11:08pm On Jun 18, 2016
Some lawmakers on Saturday proposed life pension for presiding officers of the National Assembly after their tenure in office.

They made the proposal at a-two day retreat on Constitution Review organised by the Senate Ad hoc Committee on Constitution Review in Lagos.

According to them, presiding officers, who should enjoy life pension are President of Senate, Deputy President of Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, spoke in favour of the proposal.
Ekweremadu said principal officers of the two chambers should be entitled to life pension after their tenure.
Ekweremadu, who is the Chairman of the Senate Ad hoc Committee on the review of the 1999 Constitution, stressed that it was necessary for the presiding officers to enjoy such benefits.
He said: “This has nothing to do with an individual.
“It is about the institution.
“Let us not politicise it.
“Nobody elected the Chief Justice of Nigeria, but he enjoys pension.
“But if we cheapen our own institution, so be it.
“Let us not make this a personal thing.”

Senator Stella Oduah (PDP-Anambra) said there was no reason why legislators should not enjoy such benefit when other arms of government enjoyed it
Oduah said: “The executive enjoys it. Let us stand by our leaders.
“They should enjoy this benefit.
“They act on behalf of us.
“They are equal to the executive and judiciary and should, therefore, enjoy the same benefit.”

Senator Ahmed Yerima (APC-Zamfara), who also spoke in favour of the suggestion, said: “After being elected by all the lawmakers and their constituencies, lawmakers should enjoy pension.
“Governors, who spend just four years enjoy it.
“So presiding officers should enjoy it too.”

However, the Leader of the Senate, Ali Ndume, spoke against the proposal.
Ndume said: “The case of the state governors and their deputies is different.
“They were elected by the public.
“But we elect our principal officers.
“To me, I believe that the benefit of the office of the Senate president and other principal officers is too much.
“They are just one among equals.
“I am against any excessive privileges given to the Senate president or the speaker.
“All of us were elected.
“If we are doing anything, it should be for all members of the National Assembly.”

Also, the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, spoke against the suggestion.
Akpabio said: “The governor of a state and the president cannot stay in office for more than two terms.
“But for a senator, he can stay in office for 35 years.”

According to Senator Oluremi Tinubu: “I think principal officers have had enough.
“Principal Officers drive fleet of cars and they have other entitlements.
“They should not earn extra money when they leave office.
“In the last assembly, we in the minority tried to raise our voice against it.
“You are first, second and third among equals.
“Some of us do not even have cars, but principal officers have so many.
“I think we should drop that idea.”

Politics / I Won’t Contribute To School Feeding Programme, Fayose Tells FG by CarmelloANGEL(m): 7:43pm On Jun 12, 2016
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said that the school feeding programme of the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government must be done without the proposed 40 per cent counterpart funding from States.

He said the Federal Government was already looking for an excuse for the impending failure of the programme by asking states to contribute 40 per cent to the scheme.

The governor, who said his state was interested in the scheme, added that the school feeding programme was purely a contract between the APC-led Federal Government and Nigerians.

“Were the States consulted before the APC made the promise during the presidential campaign? How can you make a promise and win election on the basis of that promise and now expect States to help you to fulfil the promise? That to me is fraud!”

Fayose in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said Ekiti and other states in the country deserved to benefit from the programme without assisting the federal government with any 40 per cent counterpart funding.

“Apart from the fact that Ekiti State lacked the financial wherewithal to provide counterpart fund for such a programme, it is the duty of President Muhammadu Buhari and his APC that won election on the basis of their promise to give free meal to school pupils to fulfil the promise without placing any burden on other tiers of government.”

The governor said the APC should rather blame itself for failing to do a proper study on the practicability of the scheme before promising Nigerians instead of looking for who to blame for not fulfilling the school feeding promise.

“The federal government knows that 80 per cent of the states lack the financial will to be able to contribute the 40 per cent counterpart fund for the programme and the time the programme eventually fails, Nigerians will be told that it failed because States did not key in to it.

“As for us in Ekiti, we are interested in the programme because Nigeria belongs to all of us. But we won’t contribute any counterpart fund because the programme is solely an electoral promise of the APC and we were never consulted before the promise was made.

“We don’t even have the capability to make any financial contribution even if it is 10 per cent because our financial condition is such that we can’t even pay workers salary,” Fayose said.

Health / Doctors Perform First U.S. Pen!s Transplant - CNN by CarmelloANGEL(m): 9:08pm On May 16, 2016
(CNN) - Doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital performed the first U.S. penis transplant, they said Monday, calling it a "landmark procedure."

Thomas Manning, 64, is recovering well after the 15-hour procedure performed by a team of over 50 surgeons, doctors and nurses, this month, according to the hospital. Manning, of Halifax, Massachusetts, had his penis amputated after he was diagnosed with penile cancer in 2012.

The procedure, also described by the doctors as a "surgical milestone," is called a gentitourinary vascularized composite allograft, or GUVCA.
It involves "surgically grafting the complex microscopic vascular and neural structures of a donor organ onto the comparable structures of the recipient."
Put another way, "surgeons connected the intricate vascular and nerve structures of a donor penis with those of the 64-year-old transplant recipient," the hospital said.

Dr. Dicken Ko, director of the hospital's Regional Urology Program, said the objectives of the surgery were primarily to reconstruct the Instruments so that it appeared natural, followed by urinary function and hopefully sexual function. However, Ko added that while sexual function is a goal, reproduction is not, because of a concern surrounding the ethical issues of who the potential father may be.

Although Manning is still healing from the surgery, his doctors said there are no signs of bleeding, rejection or infection, and they are cautiously optimistic that he will regain function. They expect him to leave the hospital in the next three or four days.

"Today I begin a new chapter filled with personal hope and hope for others who have suffered genital injuries, particularly for our service members who put their lives on the line and suffer serious damage as a result," Manning said in a statement provided by the hospital. He also expressed gratitude to his family and his medical team, as well as to the family of the donor.
"We are hopeful that these reconstructive techniques will allow us to alleviate the suffering and despair of those who have experienced devastating genitourinary injuries and are often so despondent they consider taking their own lives," said Dr. Curtis L. Cetrulo, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who led the transplant team along with Ko.

They worked with doctors in infectious disease, psychiatry and social work and with the New England Organ Bank to identify a suitable donor.
Cetrulo said the surgery was an effort 3½ years in the making, building on their previous work.
"It's on a continuum of transplants ... hand, face, abdominal wall. ... We felt comfortable because of our experience with hand transplants," he said.
Manning will need to take immunosupressing drugs for the rest of his life to diminish any chance of rejection. Certulo added that the immunosupressants may in fact "help the nerves regrow," hopefully contributing to his success.

Certulo and Ko said they hope that this procedure can help put them on a path to help wounded servicemen. "There's a real patient-driven need," Certulo said.
Eventually, they hope this may even be used with gender reconstruction surgery.

However, Certulo also pointed out that there was still a lot to learn about this process and how it would fit for each patient. "Every case is different. We really had to tailor our procedure to our patient."
Previously, doctors at Johns Hopkins said they hoped to be the first team in the United States to accomplish this procedure in a clinical trial for veterans launched last year. Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston is also approved to perform the procedure.

In December 2014, doctors at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, performed the first penis transplant in a nine-hour operation.
The patient was a 21-year-old man whose penis was amputated after severe complications from a circumcision during a coming-of-age ceremony.
Doctors waited three months to declare the surgery a success, once his urinary and reproductive functions were restored. In June, the man had impregnated his girlfriend.
The statement from Massachusetts said it "holds promise for patients with devastating genitourinary injuries and disease."

It wasnt named "King Power" for nothing. It takes a King to crown another. Lesson to Totenham, you cannot come to the Bridge to plan a coup. Respect your Elders so you can be honored.

Politics / Reps Go Against Senate, Say They ’ll Re-examine Budget by CarmelloANGEL(m): 4:18pm On Apr 14, 2016
Contrary to the stand of the Senate that it would not re-examine the controversial 2016 budget, the House of Representatives says it will take another look at the document.

The Senate said on Tuesday that it had foreclosed a revisit of the document.
But Speaker, Yakubu Dogara after a two hour closed door session stated the House’s position, which he said was necessitated by the prevailing economic situation facing the country.

“In view of the prevailing economic situation and in the interest of our people, we have resolved to reexamine the budget with a view of ironing out any differences with the executive.

“This is for the overall interest of the country in order to have a workable budget that is implementable”, he said.
