HealthRe: How Will Social Distancing Work In A Danfo Bus Or BRT? by Carshopper(m):
Fogman:
I am really against the relaxing of the lockdown. I was arguing with Carshopper in a similar thread few days back, I told him that our shambolic health care system cannot withstand this pandemic, if it moves to another stage. Obviously there will be multiplier effect with the relax of the lockdown. Disaster is brewing in our hand. May God help us all
There are some many indices one will have to look into going forward... the economics of Nigeria can not sustain a longer period of lockdown.

Also when critically viewed, you tend to ask the question 'is the lockdown bringing desired effect?'.

Someone said in a thread where we discussed this issues, the relaxation of the lockdown is for the SMEs who form the block of the production chain.

The same thing I said when we discussed this issue is the same I will still say - some will survive, some will be statistics - choose which side your number will fall - practice all forms of preventive measures.

Funny those who complain will still go out and do their business regardless - Man must Chop

The relax is aimed @ SMEs n not any other economic group.

This people form the bulk of the nation's workforce.

8am- 6pm. They grab whatever they can , head home n continue d following day.

“Based on the above and in line with the recommendations of the Presidential Task Force on COVID nineteen, the various Federal Government committees that have reviewed socio-economic matters and the Nigeria Governors Forum, I have approved for a phased and gradual easing of lockdown measures in FCT, Lagos and Ogun States effective from Saturday, 2nd May, 2020 at 9am.

34. However, this will be followed strictly with aggressive reinforcement of testing and contact tracing measures while allowing the restoration of some economic and business activities in certain sectors.

35. The highlights of the new nationwide measures are as follows;
a. Selected businesses and offices can open from 9am to 6pm;
b. There will be an overnight curfew from 8pm to 6am. This means all movements will be prohibited during this period except essential services;
c. There will be a ban on non-essential inter-state passenger travel until further notice;
d. Partial and controlled interstate movement of goods and services will be allowed for the movement of goods and services from producers to consumers; and
e. We will strictly ensure the mandatory use of face masks or coverings in public in addition to maintaining physical distancing and personal hygiene. Furthermore, the restrictions on social and religious gathers shall remain in place. State Governments, corporate organisations and philanthropists are encouraged to support the production of cloth masks for citizens.

36. For the avoidance of doubt, the lockdown in the FCT, Lagos & Ogun States shall remain in place until these new ones come into effect on Saturday, 2nd May 2020 at 9am.”

Hmmm that's what 98% of lagosian are wearing even some use handkerchief. You mean it's a waste of time ?
If that is true then lockdown go long oohh
People wey never chop go fit buy N95 ?
So it seems..

But upon further research, I realised an ingredient is missing in some DIY face masks sold ... A NON WOVEN filter material - this helps to increase protection level and holds small n large droplets from moving in and out

I am producing face masks for free distribution, so I have been researching

One thing to add.
Face masks are not to protect you from catching it. They are to stop you from spreading it
Thanks for this addition .. So if we all use face mask we can control the spread since some are carriers witout symptoms, if I understand ur addition

Bros the same thing happened to me in march,
Apparently a friend came from U.K. 28th feb and came to see me 3 march. We hugged and played game he came with his sanitizer though.

3days after I started coughing serious one
No fever , no shortness of breath but cough no go I was battling with this while trying to reach my guy to check on him but the guy was forming busy, today Ibadan next na Apapa. I was trying to track if he was sick or coughing but d guy just dey play about till lockdown.
He wasn't sick at all.

Fast forward to last week I know one person that is positive and not sick at all but was tested because he was close to a known case, he was moved from idh to onikan on Monday.

Last week friday two people tested positive in the same environment I know this people no be story I dey tell. Infact they were tested with the first guy and ncdc came back dt there was a mistake they need to be retested and boom negative turned to positive. I will know if the are in IDH or onikan by today.

So guess what I started cough again yesterday, I have a pass to move and I've been going out when necessary, I wear mask, social distancing and all. If I see dt my mind will continue to worry me I will go and get tested though ncdc wil want to be sure you have been exposed to a positive case before they test you, if not you pay 20k.

But right now I'm not going anywhere again, I dey house if government like lift d lockdown I dey house I no go shake. Infact government can't try it. Lockdown continues

So this epistle is for people that want to go out because hunger dey kill. It's because you don't understand what's happening outside, you don't know people that have tested positive or waiting to be tested.
Ask the Covid19 patient, they wear mask too , practice all safety precaution yet they don't understand how they are infected.
Concerning line, I have come to understand people use the face mask wrongly or the face mask gotten is not of the right material (I have been researching on use of face mask)

When using face mask
1. Do not always adjust the face mask - any time u touch your face mask wash hands or sanitize immediately

2. When removing your face mask, don't pull from d front, pull off ur face masks from the elastic bands

3. Face masks use is roughly 8hours interval then change (from experts)

4. For homemade face masks, materials should be very good ones with additional filter layer (helps control small and large droplets from escaping or entering)

Pls add more if you know any

You and your family are literate enough, do you know that more than 80% of Nigerians are illiterates and our kind of society does not obey rules and regulations

This is much more than face mask sir, our people don't even know the principles of using face mask, face mask is only but one of the many preventive method. Seen people with face mask, remove it to eat, what happens to there hand that might has been in contact with contaminated objects. You and I know that Nigerian can not keep to the precautive methods. We are not literate enough for it. Na Agberos u want ask to wear face mask? #StayHome #StaySafe
I don't believe this statement ...

You have seen people with facemask remove to eat - did you inform them they should sanitize with an alcohol based solution? Educate and enlighten

Whether we like it or not people will die from this virus ... we can not control the spread with a lockdown ... best we start seeking options to treatment.

Me and my immediate surroundings apply the face mask and sanitizer drill in n out of public spaces ... we dont want to be part of the other statistics ... please do the same within your immediate surroundings

Option 1 is no issue because MOST of the confirmed cases are NOT showing any symptoms and they will recover with little or no treatment.

Stay at home minimise the chances of contacting it. Maybe I ll need to remind how crowded Oshodi and other places are. Imagine if only one Covid-19 patient should visit any public place, how many will contact it and in turn take it home and also reinfects others. Please let not allow our anticipated plans or endeavours to becloud our reasoning.
Also Imagine if out of the crowded oshodi a higher percentage had the face masks on - we can be saying it will do this or that ... but we haven't critically looked into it.

Second phase of lockdown every area in Lagos was in scare of 1million boys - due to the lockdown , salaries haven't been paid, due to the lockdown, production is at its lowest - due to d lockdown.

So every country will to have to weigh its options and take chances with other methods of staying safe

It will do the same effect a lockdown would have done - Spread the infection over a longer period so as not to stress the fragile health care system

How can social distancing be enforced in Lawanson market, Yaba, Idumota, Balogun or the likes?

How can we observe Social distancing in Danfos or motorbikes?

Even banks will first jampack people outside before they allow them to go in, in twos?

Let them just remove it. Anyhow it eventually ends up is our fate. But saying enlightenment and enforcement? We both know that's not happen

Just read through the comments of supposed "enlightened" Nigerians with the internet. Then imagine how an uneducated Nigerian would behave

This virus transmits via sneezing, coughing etc... this is the best time to be your brothers keeper ... look out for the next person while looking out for yourself.

Will you go out today witout a face mask? In my area ogudu, the use of face mask is increasing

My summittion, is that we should not compare Nigeria with European countries with excellent Healthcare facilities, we all know that our shambolic health care system can not withstand this pandemic if it enters another level. Americans and European countries even with their excellent healthcare facilities were really overwhelmed by this pandemic. A few more weeks at home will definitely be in our own interest. It is only the living that makes plan or talk about food. #StayHome #StaySafe
I don't see that happening ... the first period of lockdown didnt increase the numbers

The second period of lockdown numbers increased ...

Staying at home brings the virus closer than ever.. cuz truth to be told, we all go to the market, supermarkets, medicine stores to get our essentials... it can be gotten from there and brought in to immediate surroundings

For me, I still support the LOCKDOWN for the next one month

Let us sacrifice this little time and see the curve flatten to a reasonable extent.

Nigerians sef are not helping. Stay at home, everyone is screaming hunger (which is true). But isn't it better to feel hunger, than see your loved ones die because of something without cure?

Face masks can be enforced, but it's difficult for Social distancing to be. From markets, to banks, to busstops, to churches, to everywhere....Only walking along Idumota or Obalende sef na wahala

If this lockdown is lifted, na God hand we dey. NCDC are already overburdened despite thelockdown. Imagine when it's lifted

This is a very big risk to be taken on Monday. God will see us through
The curve can't be flatten (hard truth to swallow)- so many indices plays against it. Data which is critical is truly missing.

Testing is in question, health care is non existent.

Na to manage the situation while seeing people turn to statistics. (Hard truth to accept)

Palliatives can not be assured cuz it will be based on the most hit age bracket. Or it can not be sustained because for how long shall palliatives run.

Continual lockdown - you have to fight or mitigate between where the next uprising will come from, what will increase the stress on d non-existing health-care (if na hunger or the virus). Production and business economics failing, paying for infrastructure and it is not been productive.

Relaxed lockdown people go about with the covid19 preventive protocols, more educative awareness, enlightenment and enforcing strict rules within d population.

Locked or relaxed- numbers will increase

Researchers have identified a total of four cases of newborn babies with COVID-19 infection in China. In all cases the babies experienced only mild symptoms with none requiring intensive care or mechanical ventilation according to research published in in the European Respiratory Journal today (April 9, 2020).

This shows that there are Antibodies in their bodies working.
This is interesting... WHO also says this. Though data is limited but presently no evidence of higher risk.

The virus to date has not been found in samples of amniotic fluid or breastmilk

Mayb experts should use this as test subject to know ascertain its gene adaptability and mutation in a age grouping.

Plainly put, auntie coro is nice to babies and younger guys!! grin

Pardon my being jocular about an obviously serious issue.

I think researchers would have taken your observations into account and no possibilities can be ruled out.

It's not been empirically proven that certain age demographs are immuned to it.however based on patterns we are seeing,it's obvious infants can be said to majorly pocess herd immuinity which is great by the way.

As with most major disease outbreaks children are often usually least infected- corona, ebola, swine flu, dengue fever etc. I guess nature makes up for their physical vulnerabilities by strengthening their immune system to withstand this attacks.

An Uber drivers view at best!!
Researcher have this to say

"But if the age-dependency of COVID-19 disease was specifically due to immune function, we would expect babies to also show severe disease, as their immune systems are still developing. This is what is seen in most seasonal flu epidemics, where those under two and those over 65 are at a greater risk of severe disease."
