Bigleaf1006: Better oyel dey your head!! drivers will always want to force the hand of the partner to adjust. Goverment only gave a 2 weeks observation period and you all are already wanting rentals slashed by partners. Drivers making the rental fees isn't the problem but the percentage of driver earnings will be worst hit and that's their fears.
Many partners borrowed monies and are also paying instalments to banks, many borrowed from friends and family, many wiped out their savings with a projected timeline to recoup.
The market will definitely determine appropriate fees, I really think it's unnecessary for people to want to jump the gun.I would rather advise those planning to enter the market or getting additional cars or taking HP contracts to hold on but for those of us already in should see it out.
I am sorry I might sound a bit unpleasant, but we need to all see this as what it is, Business!! and not some kind of government grant!! |

mrjaydee: Good morning guys, I guess it's time we report to the Mods anyone that comes here to derail the thread again or we just ignore the person totally.
My Uber docs ( insurance expires in 3weeks, inspection has already expired) I dont even know if Uber inspection locations will be opened on monday. If you see anyone opened on the island pls mention me.
We are resuming on the 8th, so I have one week to test the waters again before my driver/partner comes to pick the car.
I think this week work will give a better understanding to know the right or reasonable weekly fare. Car owners should take note.
30k/25k weekly is impossible at this time let's not deceive ourselves. I like nigerians .. something has not happened but we have concluded. Let's run 1st week ...then we discuss |

Eizenburg: I believe there’s already an option to split your fare and carpool, most people would just rather split the fare within themselves than use the built in app feature. Most drivers will start charging per rider when they don't make use of the app. Presently I am working on getting approval from a particular estate to make commuting residents of that estate to work daily. Also reaching out to corporate bodies for a staff fleet option or colleagues that love and work in same area. Note the relaxed window is just 2WEEKS... at the end of this 2weeks it will be reviewed. So one has to be considerate in his calculations |

Eizenburg: It’s really a tough one, we would just have to wait and see how things unfold.
Took a quick survey of about 15 people that I know regularly use e-hailing as their daily commute. 9 of them says they’ll use their personal cars for now and ride share with colleagues, seeing as they already share the same work space. Out of that 9, 6 says they would go back to e-hailing if they cant handle the stress of driving in Lagos traffic. 2 are hoping on hitching rides with neighbors, and 4 says they’ll continue using e-hailing, as it is the safest option for them. The market share is still open... once people hear that uber drivers are been so strict with protective measures- they will be comfortable and will start choosing cars they enter |

InfinityEstates: Hmm... Pool ride share system? If I'm a rider, let's say my colleague and I plan on taking a ride, the only logical thing would be to book one ride and share the cost.Thats assuming Bolt/Uber decides to implement your ride sharing system which I think would definitely not work.
Car owners should also start looking into reducing rental fees at least pending when lockdown subsides and the economy picks up... Uber original model was in the direction of POOL ride share system (where as u drive u can share ur ride with min of 2 passengers) The pool ride system can be done in a way that a rider can add or share with ONE friend and an ADD-ON fee is attracted (how the total cost is paid is left to the rider and his friend) |

Ghost1994: Dear e-hailing Driver. After LockDown what next?
Hi everyone, it’s good to write you again with raised optimism. I have a story to tell about the future of e-hailing (uber/ taxify and etc) business in Lagos. This is an advisory and you may choose to modify or ignore.
Please take a listen.
As the Federal Government in Nigeria is set to lift the statewide lockdown of Abuja, Ogun and Lagos on the 4th of May, it is yet to be known if e-hailing drivers (in Lagos) would get back to work.
However, as transportation is essential to movement from one point to another, we can anticipate that you would be allowed to operate.
One thing we are also certain about is the fact that the corona virus is here and we shall be living with it for a while.
Same also applies to the concept of social distancing which is being adopted.
As we await a more intricate description of the model of economic re-opening to be adopted by the Lagos State government, we can already project those businesses or livelihoods that will be toned down for a long time or completely redefined/lost as the new world order demands.
Yes, the unavoidable fact that nation’s across the globe are being compelled to remodel their lives for the foresable future while reserving a seat for the corona virus pandemic is undeniable. And this will last until there is an acceptable vaccine worldwide.
So, back to the Crux of the matter, As an e-hailing driver, this is not the time to be desperate or hasty.
We know the times are hard and we all need to heck a living for ourselves and families.
The e-hailing companies are going to through a lot of baits out at you, but do not forget that most of their staff would be working from home with little or no risk involved, minimal operational cost and no care or cover for you should an emergency arise. Or we await such announcements though.
My advice to all drivers goes thus:
1) BE INNOVATIVE: This is the time to be innovative. Spread your e-tantacles and think for yourself. There are many other things that can be done hands on to fetch you a living. Dig yourself into them and relax on e-hailing, it’s not likely to pay your bills for the next couple of months.
2) FORGET ABOUT RENTALS: If you rent a car to drive, I would candidly advice that you hold on for the next 3 to 4 weeks and watch the dynamics that would unravel.
Those who own vehicles can experiment and you would use their timeline and earnings to determine what is realistic to earn, pay, and save.
Night life is dead. Schools will remain closed. An estimated 50% of private businesses and employed persons will likely go temporarily or permanently jobless. So what’s the rush. A lot of partners would be pushing their cars on you right now, but you might be making a great mistake.
And if you must rent, cut you rental to no more than half what you paid before lockdown. I recommend 10k weekly for now.
3) HIRE PURCHASE: It is understandable that this is an intricate subject for those presently on higher purchase schemes.
But don’t be deceived by anyone, there has been a force majeure and the terms of your hire purchase payment can and should be redefined. Get a good lawyer, get your driver associations or groups involved and make a good presentation.
I suggest you start by requesting to take the next month off, and use the analysis from that period to redetermine your realistic responsibilities to your principal.
I repeat again, don’t be deceived by anyone that the terms of your HP can’t be rescheduled under the present rearrangements we find ourselves.
4) PASSENGERS, RULES/RESTRICTIONS AND SAFE LIVING: Your personal health is your primary responsibility.
Stay SAFE! God will protect us ALL Good assumptions but I believe reverse will be th case. The Lagos state government has said company should run 60% staffing. This 60% will be very cautious of how they transport to work. Most will prefer having a dedicated ride take then to n fro. Also there will still be PEAK highs (Morning rush n Evening rush). I would wan to think if the app company would implement the POOl ride share system to increase driver earnings - So two colleagues from same office or location can POOl ride and each pays their amount independent of the other. Concerning rental fee, most owners will hold off their cars getting to work, cuz they will weigh the benefits over maintenance or other KPI. Now isnt the time to think Partner reducing rental fee but a time partner and driver working together to benefit each other. Drivers can latch on to dedicated pick up and drop off at a fixed cost. You can get colleagues working in d same environment (2 per pick up or drop off) and charge a fixed rate of say 2k per Person (as you wish). The worrisome part is the driving witout ac.. bad odour will be at its HIGHEST |

hefelove: See ehn the most scariest thing about this covid-19 is the you don't even have to show that you have a symptoms before you can spread it to you u are healthy but covid dey inside body and u will be spreading it before the coughing and all will start This is reason for mandatory use of face mask, sanitizer and other protective measures. Note: this isnt an ebola type virus that spreads via contact of body fluids eg sweat. |

izzou:
Baba too much talks on issues surrounding its spread ... less talks on managing the spread ... How does the coronavirus disease spread? People can catch COVID-19 from others who have the virus. The disease can spread from person to person through small droplets from the nose or mouth which are spread when a person with COVID-19 coughs or exhales. These droplets land on objects and surfaces around the person. Other people then catch COVID-19 by touching these objects or surfaces, then touching their eyes, nose or mouth. People can also catch COVID-19 if they breathe in droplets from a person with COVID-19 who coughs out or exhales droplets. This is why it is important to stay more than 1 meter (3 feet) away from a person who is sick. We are driving an initiative to produce filtered face masks for FREE distribution. Production has started from personal contributions to achieve this. Let's Educate, Enlighten and Engage |

Felicity0001: Yes! But with all social distances contents strictly adhered to till a cure or a vaccine is found.
Companies and industries will even be glad to operate 24hrs with shift becoming more effective and more staff to be employed.
This Will also help to curtain the rate of unemployment in the society.
Mind you WHO said the virus will be with us for some time, so therefore, let the lockdown continue till a vaccine or a cure is found will people are only allowed to move only at night. Naturally this will reduce the number of people we will be having outside during this time movement is allowed because most people dont like night movement, nature calls, el at... Felicity0001: To me the best way To relax this lockdown is restrict movement from 6am to 7pm them people can be free to move at night, this will gice rise to a 24hrs economic system Gov Fashola has always wanted to make happen. And after this whole pandemic is over you will see how major cities like Lagos, FCT, Oh and a few others become a centre of attraction to foreign investors.
With this idea Gov will do their best to make elextricity available, street light a must and security a major thing.
We need to start thinking outside the box and start appreciating the advantages and disadvantages that come along this pandemic. Hmmm.. sounds interesting.. let's discuss further |

dustmalik: This country is full of idiots. I've been seeing the clamour for the government to call off the lockdown, without putting into consideration how people are going to move around from one place to another.
Some fools even went as far as protesting, burning tyres on the road. The lockdown has been the only reason why we haven't had exponential cases of COVID-19 so far. That's all going to change starting next week.
El-rufai is the only sensible governor that has put in place proper measures to curtail the spread by extending the lockdown by 30days, and on the long run, everyone will see how it will pay off. Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has endorsed this evaluation and has accordingly reviewed the Quarantine Orders to strengthen the provisions against unauthorised movements. The two-day window during which the restriction of movement is relaxed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays has been reduced to only one day. One day is enough to spread to multitudes ..... |
