when are they paying please?

Payment is a still long way off o. Shareholders first to have approve in AGM to hold in 90 days or thereabouts. Give another 45 to 90 days for all the approval from SEC, NSE and court ordered meeting (if applicable).

Another noteworthy experience in the analogue era is exactly the scenario you painted although in this case i placed order about 2 days before qualification date and broker said he bought. About a year later when i went to Registrars for unclaimed dividend they said i had none. I went back to broker and saw from my statement that they didn't buy till weeks later. Infact money i had given the so called staff didn't get into my account till the day they bought. I knew the guy had played a fast one and collected my dividend from him with threat to report to his bosses.

Many here can guess the broker. They have been mentioned here in last few days.

I have shared my experience on this before.
I bought a stock 2 days to qualification date and I was not paid the dividend.
The explanation giving by my broker was this nonsense T+3 days settlement thing.

I will like others to share their experience.

My experience is that i bought a wrong stock by pressing wrong button. I discovered about 3 hours later and tried a sale and it went through with both transactions registering in my in-house account. Both transactions via online platform.

Banks are very dicy, remember Lehman Brothers, very sweet company with great financials numbers, even paid dividends a year before they wind down..................All Banks including GT can fold any minute especially if Coys in their loan books become troubled, Skye, Diamond comes to mind........ When the going is good for Banks, its fantastic but when the going is bad Banks are the most catstrophic investment

@Bolded not entirely correct. Diamond and Skye had issues for a long time before their fate, Diamond for at least 6 years. Bank's with modestly good risk management, controls and governance don't fail overnight but they are few. Its just that as an outsider one may not really know what is happening inside and CBN won't reveal anything till it gets very messy. Retail investors in bank are advised to not only read financial statements and ratios but also look for stories on the lifestyles of executive management and key owners.

Some of them just use their ownership and control as vehicle for other gigs.

Yesterday's news of Nigeria's first case of Coronavirus is what has triggered the negative response in the market today.
It's a shame we in this forum did not explore how such a senerio - Nigeria's first case - would affect the market.
We are too reactive in this forum.
In any case considering other exigent situations leading to reduced prices we should contemplate hedging.

There is no cause and effect relationship there.

If you don't have the temperament of an investor please don't try it. Stick what you have the temperament for.

You can try a blend of both by having another account basically for investment.

No be separate account matter o. Its a mindset thing. You got to cure the itchy finger and the need to know day to day fluctuations in prices.

How can you make 80k and can't pay a dividend of 30k or make N1.00 and can't pay a dividend of 40k.

I am a dividend Investor and cash flow from my dividend should pay back the fund Invested in a maximum of 5 years,.

Thats about 17.5% dividend yield per annum?

Jijo has cover a lot of peoples eyes, whom would have be millionaire by now, but do to buying and selling, they can't avoid to make reasonable amount of money for five years period. Let take for instance, Zenith bank at average of #20 irrespective of price movement , for complete 5 years which has 60 months, the person will acquire about ( #20 x 1000 unit = #20,000, and 1,000 unit times 60 months = 60,000 unit) 60,000 which will stands at #1,200,000. One million two hundred thousand. Just for #20,000 monthly.

1. In the first year he acquire 12,000 unit , and received dividend of #2.8 x 12,000 = #33,600
2. In the second year he acquire another 12,000 + the old 12,000 = 24,000 unit , with dividend of #2.8 x 24,000 = #67,200
3. In the third year he acquire another 12,000 + the old 24,000 = 36000 units, with dividend of #2.8 x 36,000 = #100,800
4. In the fourth year he acquire another 12,000 + the old 36,000 = 48,000 unit, with dividend of #2.8 x 48,000 = # 134,400
5. In the fifth year he acquire another 12,000 unit + the old 48,000 = 60,000 unit with dividend of #2.8 x 60,000 = # 168,000

Gain
1. For 5 years he has gotten the return from his or her investment of about #504,000 minus 10 percent withholding tax of 50400 = #453,600
2. For 5 years he had made about #1,200,000 capital saves, this can also attract capital appreciation.

Note
1. There are many sound fundamental stocks that has same good dividend pay out in the market
2. The amount saved might be higher due to capital appreciation or lower due to depreciation.
3. One need to always follow the quarterly report of the companies to know when bad management set in, for him to move his saves to another good company.

In conclusion, investment is the key, investment is the answer.

A former Jijoist is talking. grin grin grin

Nice analogy, but this approach used by our parents won’t work well in today’s financial markets. Consider how many companies have folded since the last global financial crisis, consider that some of us bought public offers of DAAR and similar failed companies in the last decade. The concept of bargain hunting is present in every market worldwide. There are investors and there are traders, just chose which part of the divide you want to belong.

Many of the companies that went out of business did'nt fold up for economic reasons. They folded up because they were run by crooks. Some of these are however still around.

Many of the business with better structures and ownership also experienced downturns due to combination of economy and crooked leadership e.g. Unilever, Cadbury, NB etc. but they are still around and doing business.

LESSON: If you want to invest for the long term, its still a viable strategy but select your companies carefully and always track company news as well as management news.

That Q4 unaudited results rule is the best thing from NSE since inception. It keeps Investors abreast all year round and help prepare their mind for what to EXPECT @ FY results Or is it because JIJO no longer favor you

Lets see the divergence from AFS first then we will know if that initiative is being manipulated.
