I doubt if any company except Banks wouldrelease good results Q1, We are yet to recover from border closure then Cash crunch and Covid 19 enters the scene..... I would see how the country would come back up and running

Banks Q1 2020 results will be challenged by the cost of regulation by CBN: CRR, LDR, OMO/TBills Regulations etc. Restrictions to movement will help a bit because you must either use ATM or do online transaction where they can charge you more. Many of the branches are shut so expect serious savings on cost of operations etc diesel, fuelling of cars etc. Many will refuse to pay reimburse staff for increased use of data on online meetings etc.

Telecoms will smile all the way to the bank so watch out for Q1 of MTNN and AIrtel Nigeria businesses. They will be big winners.

Breweries can also be big winners as the most popular recreation in Nigeria which is consumption of alcoholic beverages is now elevated. Expect the usual suspects to benefit.

Cement and Building materials will feel a lot of the impact in Q1 and Q2 but expect quick pick up in sales and recovery once the lock down is relaxed.

Pharmaceutical stocks have received a lot of interest in last couple of weeks. I hope they do get a fair share of the monies donated for fighting COVID 19 within the country; Otherwise it will be a galore for drug importers. Unless the domestic PharmaCoys already have those drugs in production, dont expect to see any impact in Q1 and Q2.

Petroleum marketing is in a no win situation for now. Stay away from those stocks with the exception of that one that wants to delist if you are willing to wait through the capricious process of back and forth engagement with SEC.

Food and Packagingis okay. The front loaded demand for their goods should make even the strugglers like unilever look good. The gold medalist here by miles would be the makers of indomie noodles. They are quoted on one of the boards of NSE.

Which other sector sef?

Prices are reluctant to move up despite huge volumes, what do we call this now? sad

** I hope I'm not too quick to jump into Fbnh at N4. tongue

Its been swinging between N3.75 and N4.20 in past few weeks. If you don't have any new positive information wait for it at N3.70 to N3.80 as i believe it will still touch there this week. If you have any new info that is positive, go for it at your proposed price. I doubt anything will move this stock up materially, outside general market movement.

Investors are funny. They would be lining up to bid at 9.75 when there are offers at 9.80.

Tomorrow same investors would be scrambling to buy at more than 10 naira per share grin

True but am talking purely from a stock trading end. Those over $7T dollar global stimulus package that was announced last week, some of them will find their way to our market to buy our currently cheap assets.

Just like Rabbi said in one of his posts, it will purely be liquidity driven. the underlying issues are still on ground (post global economic recovery). so when the time comes and the inflow begins, we will ride it and cash out just like what happened in January.

@bolded is very correct. Infact, the rate of infections may not have peaked before the cash starts rolling in. The hunt for yield is a great motivator regardless of uncertainty. Most can tell that the real risk in the market in currency.

from the charts, looks like France and Italy are already peaking in their cases. If the trend continues this week, Spain, Germany and other EU nations will start peaking too followed by US. The month of April might just likely be the month we have all been waiting for. We hope for the best.

Nigeria is still at growth phase. I think it is still gathering momentum but from number of reported case, there was no new case in Lagos.

A good one from JB !! wink cheesy grin

Let's do a small math;

At today's closing price of N20.20, that script issue of 1 for 5 will compute to approx N4/share(ie 1/5 x 20.20)
Add that to the N2.75 div declaration, and u'll have a sum cashflow of N6.75.
...which equates to over 33% div yield(ie 6.75/20.20 x 100)

So an X amount of money put in this asset today should hitherto return a 0.33x multiple, ceteris paribus.
...and assuming we hinge the 33% yield to a possible price appreciation given the NSE' price cap methodology(10%/day), then I expect a 3 days price rise.(trading/investing instinct in view)
But then again, market sentiment is currently weak, so everything is possible including a price fall.

Away from price consideration, JULIUS BERGER is for the future.(more of mid-term play than short)
As I mentioned during a past analysis here, the coy is presently going through an inflection phase towards growth.
Key indicators shows that current YE FP came in good and above expectation.
Aside the quest to diversify their earnings base, the company is presently on top of very juicy contractual deals accross key states in the country.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers State(2 in Obio-akpo and 1 in PH LGA to be precise), the company is currently executing 3 gigantic fly-over bridges. ...with 70% down payment already secured from the state government.(the gov confirmed this)
Somehow, LARFAGE WAPCO is also a part of the contract.(they are the coy contracted to supply cement).
The duration(of the project) is for 18 months but I expect that the cashflow should begin to reflect in their book starting from this quarter.

...we'll see how things play out next week.

Selah

Their Q4 interim results also show healthy cash balances. Lets wait for the audited. Should be available this weekend or Monday at the latest.

As crude oil finally parked at $36/$37 and American Dow industry recovery from previous loses. NSE will recover tomorrow from its 2 days blood bath. Since 2 days 99% stocks was padlocked and key thrown inside the ocean, no way to escape for both jijo group and some investors who chooses to bail out. But the keys has been found.

At this junction starting from tomorrow whenever you see opening of the door for you to escape, pls exercise patience don't bail out, because you might ended up seen the same stock you bailed out from within some hours moving up above your exit junction.

Crude oil shall move up again above $50 within a shot period, and NSE will also move up. To all of us who pay this crude oil movement school fees, pls take heart, you shall recover it all.

The current oil war is to educate non - OPEC countries the need to corporate and take part in crude oil cut when ever the need arises.

@Bolded will be revisited tomorrow.

Sir, you may be right but something somewhere is definitely very wrong.
Never seen GTB in such condition before, no matter how bad the news may be, imagine 20M, 30M and 50M single offers in Zenith alone?
In the process, someone placed 5units offer, it was sold and, around the time he placed it, it can never reach his turn till market closes.

There is always a first time...
