this is the reason why Nigeria will never be a great country. the reason we hear about the great potential of Nigeria but instead we are where we are.

small pain and discomfort we cannot endure. Some people are dying and you are worried about petrol price?

Iran is fighting for the rest of us and you had better pray they succeed whether you are christian or muslim because if the US succeeds in destroying or emasculating Iran, they are coming to Africa next...and we have no defences!

Politics › Re: Al Jazeera Interview: The Daniel Bwala I Once Admired by casualobserver: 2:02pm On Mar 10
there is nothing to admire about daniel bwala. he is sympomatic of the mediocrity of Nigerian society where intelligent people are excluded or stay away from public life and charlatans fill the vaccum. when he comes face to face with professionals his inadequacies and incompetence is put on display. you can say the same of many of the people that occupy the public space from peter Obi to Rufai to Seun okinbaloye to the media team and the hangers on surrounding the president. I have said it many times on here, I respect and admire the president but those around him especially the lagos political establishment are a bunch of charlatans.

the overwhelming majority of those in the public space are buffffffffooooooons, from your celebrities to your politicians, to your influencers.

A country that celebrates people like VDM, Cubana etc is a country that has lost its compass, a country that is gone! Bwala did not disappoint me, i dont expect better of him. I have never understood why Tinubu gave Bwala such a sensitive position, not because he was against him but because he has always been clearly a charlatan.

Politics › Re: What Does The Strait of Hormuz Have To Do With Nigeria's Rising Petrol Prices? by casualobserver: 7:36pm On Mar 08
givedemwotowoto:
This is a rejoinder to: Petrol Price May Hit N1,800 In Nigeria- Refiners Warn

20% of global oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. We get it.

But here are the facts:

1. Almost all of Nigeria's crude oil is sweet crude.

2. Dangote Refinery has the capacity to process 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

3. Nigeria's daily consumption of crude oil is 327,000 barrels per day (or 52 million liters per day).

4. This means Dangote Refinery can process 100% of Nigeria's daily consumption locally.

So for the defenders of fuel price increase, explain to us why there is fuel price increase at Nigeria's petrol stations.

Before you come with Canada argument, let me preempt you:
Most of Canada’s crude is heavy crude and almost half of the 16 refineries can’t refine heavy crude, so the crude oil needs to be exported to the U.S. for refining. Because it is exported abroad, global oil price will affect it: you export at a high price due to demand, you import at a higher price.
1: Dangote imports most of its crude and will pay the international price whether it is buying local or imported crude.
2: Dangote is a private concern.
3: Dangote refinery is sited in a free trade zone, technically it is not cited in Nigeria, it is a merchant refinery.
4: subsidy has been removed.
5: Dangote refinery is not a govt refinery.

Summary:

A matchmaker has appealed to Nigerian men to marry women in their 30s to 50s who she says are seriously seeking husbands. She claims to have already matched several couples and is encouraging widowers, responsible single fathers, and even married men seeking a second wife to reach out, sparking online discussions about modern matchmaking.
That you are seriously seeking a husband does not mean you are the kind of wife a man should marry.

What is shocking is the way you guys think. That you have more money than me, that you are more developed than me does not mean you have a better society than mine. The fundamental problem with you people is your yardstick. You have been programmed in such a way that I am not surprised by your post.

I am a dial-British citizen, I prefer to live in Nigeria. I lived in the USA for a few years as a child, I have been there many times as an adult. It’s not a place I care to visit anymore. I have never been to Iran but I am sure Iran is a better society than what I last saw the last time I visited the USA.

By the way it might surprise you to know that Iran has more educated women than the USA. Iran has more female scientists, ph.D holders, engineers, doctors etc than the USA and much of that happened under the Ayatollah. Go and verify.

It may also shock you as a western programmed puppet to know that Iranians are not Arabs…they are Persians and they have a civilization that is thousands of years old. These Arab countries, Kuwait, uAE, Qatar etc that are flexing today were wastelands until the discovery of Oil less than 80 years ago. Saidi was only relevant because of the pilgrimage to Mecca. Iran has iconic buildings and monuments that are hundreds and thousands of years old…show me those from the Arab countries.

That said I don’t believe these stories because, by the time you propose to a woman you should already have had enough experience of the relationship between her and her husband.

Oga Wike, this might not be the season to conduct a popularity test. The feedback could be so brutally enlightening that you may consider an early retirement from politics.

At best, the VP slot might be a safer ambition, where the main candidate’s popularity can kindly provide you with some much-needed shade.
After Tinubu, whenever it comes to the south, the no1 politician from the south I would want as president is Wike.

He is the kind of president Nigeria needs. A man not afraid to step on toes, not afraid of cabals and actually performs.

Tell me one politician from the south apart from Tinubu who is capable of presiding over this country?

We mostly look for the wrong attributes when electing or selecting our leaders. You are not choosing a friend, a father in law or other emotional congenial criteria. You are looking for someone. With the capacity to steer the country in the right direction and to boldly tackle the minefields that will be placed before him. I do t care how he talks or how he dresses, I care about results.

Some people don’t have a single governor.

Amaechi, obi, Atiku, ElRufai, Malami, Mark, Oyegun, Aregbe, Momodu, Dalung.

None of you have a governor of your state in your coalition but you say you want to defeat Tinubu?

Politics › Re: Peter Obi's Supporter Condemns South South ADC For Endorsing Amaechi by casualobserver: 8:58pm On Feb 27
I’ve said it many times on Nairaland. Nobody rates Obi. By that I mean the political establishment. They only lured him for his supporters and they have trapped him. He won’t get the presidential or VP ticket. By which time it is too late for him to join another party. Especially with direct primaries where all party members vote.

They’ve basically check mated Obi and the Obidients. If you like go and vote for Tinubu.

That he wasn’t given a seat at the high table was telling but in case you didn’t get the message, hopefully this endorsement will tell you Atiku did not create a party for Obi to be crowned. The same Obi whose defection from PDP caused Atiku to miss his date with destiny in 2023.

Politics › Re: Opposition Shrinks As APC Expands Control To 30 States by casualobserver:
It’s an indictment of the opposition.

But those without brains will say it’s the ruling party trying to create a 1 party state.

I ask you, besides continuously bashing the ruling and disparaging everything that moves like the judiciary, INEC etc, have you heard any of them, offer any alternative policy or plan?

Have you heard them say this is what we would do differently on roads, power, subsidy, forex, agric, poverty, education, health etc etc etc? Have you ever read a policy document articulating their plans for you?

Have you?

And you wonder why there is low voter turnout? How do you come out to vote when you are not inspired by the alternative? You wonder why no one is joining them?

I challenge any opposition supporter to respond to this post by posting where any of Atiku, Obi, ElRufai, Amaechi, David mark have put forward an alternative position or articulated their policy on any of the issues I highlighted above. So when you say you are supporting them, what exactly are you supporting? You the opposition supporter don’t even know. The neutrals don’t know but they are smart enough to stay at home because they don’t know what they are voting for, all they see is a bunch of failed politicians who did not perform when they were in power but now say they are the savior.

The electorate are not electing someone to get into office and start blaming the past leaders. They want someone with a plan….what is the plan…has anyone heard or read the plans of the opposition? Even if it was at a beer parlour you heard it, please tell us their plan and policies.

Not everyone is dumb.
Events › Re: Meaning Of RSVP On Invitation Card And Other Details. by casualobserver:
JuanDeDios:
Your post is genuinely funny. I won't lie. Every word of it. You clearly know nothing about how languages work though. "If the English intended a different..." That's your justification for insisting on a transliteration. Smh.
We have a saying: Abinibi is different from ability or butter o kin se onje obo. Pedigree isn’t bought. You can study English all you want, it doesn’t make you an English man. There are certain things that you can’t learn in the classroom. The second means butter is not the food of monkeys. Give a monkey butter and he wouldn’t know what do do with it and end up misusing it. People like you is why Nigerians speak English but the UK asks for proficiency in English tests for school admission and citizenship. So please continue with your lack of knowledge and leave me in peace. I know your type.

To everybody else. The meaning of RSVP is as I said “respond if you please” not “please respond” like some of these plebeians who have never had exposure to cultures circled or environments.

The message is the same you want to now who is coming and who is not but it’s about tact, politeness, manners and diplomacy. Some people have not mingled in environments where manners are important and even the way

“Please respond” is a DEMAND despite prefixing it with a “please”. That’s bad etiquette and manners. Only tactless plebeians and unrefined people who do t know how to place their cutlery at a dinner table will make such a demand of their expected guests. Anyone with culture and manners knows you don’t do that.

In a formal invitation, you are requesting the pleasure of the company of the invitee. You are saying it is your pleasure to have him/her at your event. You don’t say it is a pleasure to have someone and then make demands by saying “please respond”. The diplomatic way to say so because you want to be able to plan is “respond if it pleases you”. Emphasis on “if it pleases you”. The invitee then knows that he is supposed to respond if it pleases him to attend.

The please is not a please to respond. The please is a reference to the invitee being pleased to attend. Big difference! That’s what they means when they say he didn’t R.S.V.P…..he didn’t indicate he will be attending.

You have the mentality of of the typical Nigerian and how we see parties. Where people get invitations and just show up. You are supposed to respond if you are pleased to attend. When we copy things from other cultures, we must understand the culture. France and Uk are not places where they do own be parties and people just show up without your hosts knowing you are coming.

It is preciseLy because we don’t understand or have abused the meaning of RSVP that you now see event planners in Nigeria contacting invited guests themselves to confirm attendance. Ordinarily cultured people would indicate their attendance via the RSVP contact.
Events › Re: Meaning Of RSVP On Invitation Card And Other Details. by casualobserver: 6:05pm On Feb 25
JuanDeDios:
So to you, there's a real difference them.

"Respond if you please" is what is called a transliteration. "Please respond" is how a native English speaker would say it, so that's the correct translation.
The problem with you the new generation is you always try to redefine everything to compensate for your ignorance.

The meaning is “respond if you please”. You don’t take another man’s language and in your ignorance try to redefine what it means. To the French it means “if it pleases you”. If the English intended a different meaning they would type “please respond” in English. They kept it RSVP to keep the French meaning.

Nonsense!

Politics › Re: 2027: Makinde, Kwankwaso Hold Closed-door Meeting In Ibadan by casualobserver:
They should continue holding meetings on how they will split the opposition vote like they did in 2023.

Tomorrow they will shout rigging, IREV. Strategy….zero, alternative plans…zero.

I have never seen such an inept opposition in my life, worse still, supporters of the opposition so unaware of the ineptitude of their leaders!

Case1: you are shouting this govt is bad, this govt is bad yet elections come and there is low turnout. Yet it doesn’t occur to you that if a govt is not performing or things are hard, the people should be coming out in droves to vote them out…no? But they don’t……why? Because they don’t see you as an alternative, you don’t have any message that offers hope except bashing the incumbents!

This above will never occur to them or their supporters.

Buhari shouldn’t have won a second term…things were hard but he did. APC should not have won in 2023 but they did. Both times they won because the opposition was inept. They offered nothing…people are not as stupid as they think. Yes things are hard but people can see improvements and you are still campaigning with the same lack of strategy and lack of solutions or alternatives, the same blame the government that failed you in the past?

14 million people rejected APC in 2023 but they won with only 8m votes, despite losing 6m votes from 2019..

I have said it many times, if the opposition cannot digest the import of the statement in bold, then they deserve to be in opposition. If their supporters cannot digest the import of the statement and continue to encourage them in their foolery, then it’s on you as supporters to putting your hopes in incompetent opposition figures. You as opposition supporters delivered 14m votes but your leaders sabotaged it because or their egos and you are still encouraging and supporting them in the same strategy that failed?

Nonsense people.
