GUNITGuy: Oga you invest based on the law in existence not what the law you wish. If the law says you don’t own the beach and they can’t lease it to you, a prudent man then adjusts his business model to see if it is viable without the beach or find another business. all this one he is saying I am sure he enquired about purchase or leasing and they turned him down but he still went ahead. If you ask me, he knew, he tried to buy or lease the beach but was unsuccessful but still went ahead anyway because his business is viable without the beach, just less profitable. He just making noise in the hope public outcry will save the beach. I can bet you he is not going out of business. There are many aspects of his business that have nothing to do with the beach. I am willing to place a bet with anyone that if you look at his business plan that he used to get investors, it will state there categorically under “threats” that the beach is not owned by him and a possible threat to the beach aspect of the business is the government taking ownership of the beach in future. As for your comment that he won’t get it if he applies that is not accurate. He didn’t get it because he likely applied and he was rejected. There is a reason why some property titles are federal and some are state. Some of those who have infrastructure by the coastline e.g jetties have federal titles. There are even some waterfront properties in Lekki that are federal cofos. Like I said he knows, he would have applied and he was rejected but likely went ahead because he assumed govt won’t do anything there for decades. 2 Likes |

GUNITGuy: What exactly is your point? The man himself said $100m, it is propagandists that have been steadily increasing the figure. The figure I use is the figure landmark himself said. But, whether $100m $200m, $500m or even $10m, these are no small amounts so how do you invest that magnitude of funds in a project without first securing the rights to the main attraction of the project I.e the beach? You just assume you can base your business on property that doesn’t belong to you in the hope the owner will never want to use his property? The truth about it is that he would have enquired about the beach and was told it wasn’t for sale but went ahead anyway thinking we will settle them when the time comes. An educated, exposed man like him cannot say he doesn’t know the law or that the coastline of Nigeria belongs to the federal govt! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2uRNfalA05o?si=6Q0nnHbM48PS4Xks 2 Likes

I said it a few months ago that if this man is wise he would keep quiet till 2027 and let some continue to think he is the messiah. The more he talks the more he confirms he is an empty head. In one week he has already made multiple major gaffes. 1:He says govt should focus on existing g roads before starting new roads. It turns out government is focusing on existing roads but using private funds to finance new roads. 2: He says he doesn’t know the cause of the accident but it must be caused by bad roads. It turns out from the pictures the section where the accident happened is good and it was the case of a truck driver who veered off his lane. A bus veered off into the lagoon on the new renovated 3rd mainland bridge, was that caused by bad roads? 3: He says govt should not demolish buildings to build roads, they dug out the video where he was boasting that any building along the road will be demolished and no compensation will be paid. 4: he focused on the Ibo man whose property was not destroyed, the yoruba man whose property and who had proper title documents was destroyed he was silent on. I encourage Peter Obi to keep talking, he is campaigning against himself. The Ibos will vote for him no matter what. His problem is that Ibo votes are not enough and the others who very fooled 1st time around are now seeing the real Peter Obi and that this man is not fit to be a LG chairman. 7 Likes 1 Share

His properties and cofo are from Lagos state and nobody is touching that. the beach belongs to the federal government, he was never sold the beach even though he had been using it. He bought land next to a beach that did not belong to him. He created a business based on a beach that didn’t belong to him. He didn’t think to secure his title on the beach before he invested $100m? Your argument sounds like because Warri cannot handle the biggest ships upgrading it and more talraffic even if they are smaller ships won’t bring economic benefits or decongest Lagos? Seriously? Has it also occurred to you that when Warri is upgraded more “smaller” ships will go to warri because there costs will be lower in Warri? We want all our ports viable and working, plus warri plus Lagos plus onne plus Calabar plus others plus new ones. Ports ultimately become specialized in the comparative advantage they offer. In the US for instance, Baltimore I think is the main port for cars, other ports are renowned for oil and gas shipments, some are renown for passenger ferries and cruises like same thing with ports like Hamburg, Rotterdam, felixstowe, Harwich, Ostend etc etc. Not every port must be a sea port my friend.not every port must handle the biggest ships to bring economic benefits. 1 Like |

The ignorance of Obi and many of those criticizing this project is they assume govt is paying for it. Govt is only paying a small percentage of the cost of the project. The project is being financed by private funds and will be recouped from tolls. Govt does not have and can can never find the N15 trillion required for this project. That is more than half our entire budget for 2024.. If Obi truly thinks it is the govt building this road, then it is more proof he is ignorant and has no business being president of the country. You are a tenant. A house costs 50m and you cannot afford to build but a developer says pay me 10% up front, I will build the house for you, you will pay me rent you are already paying to a landlord and after 25 years I will have made my profit and the house belongs to you. Will you not agree? Do you have 50m to build a house? Imagine then some simpletons (Obi and his mob) come to say it is a waste of money? Which money? Is the 50m your own money!!! It is only in Nigeria that they will ask you to put down N1trillion as your own contribution towards building a road costing N15 trillion and you will say it is a waste of money!!! It is only Nigeria a tenant will be offered to pay 5m today to own a house worth N50m and he will say it is a waste of money. We are cursed with dead brain cells!! 2 Likes 1 Share |

Dera1000: I know this is of no comfort but the pain we are all feeling is the result of successive governments not doing the right things over the years. Now the chickens have come home to roost. Irrespective of whoever became president in 2023, we would be going through the hardship we are going through now because the country was more or less bankrupt. You say you work in finance so I am sure you understand the dynamics. We had 2 paths on May 29, the path of Venezuela/Argentina or the path of reforms…both paths are painful. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying to you.. The one thing I agree with you is that the rest of the country cannot be suffering the pains while some continue as usual with government funds. No govt official has any business driving a Lexus or land cruiser or foreign made vehicle at taxpayers expense while they tell the rest of the country to endure. It is bad optics and this is where the opposition should be doing their job but they are not because they themselves are in disarray. This is why I say we should focus on the opposition and their incompetence because governments tend to lose their way ( even if they start well) when they know the opposition has no bite, ie they have no chance of toppling them. As for prices of deodorants etc, I also have seen things in the shops that I consider ridiculous to the point that I refuse to buy irrespective of whether I have the money or not. 1 Like |

Dera1000: Trust me, it’s the opposition you should be worrying about. You may not appreciate it now but Tinubu has done more in 1 year than all presidents in the last 24! They all gave you short term comforts and that is why we are in the mess we are. You cannot see the results today because lasting reform takes time. For example when Awolowo started free education he was insulted, his shed schools were mocked, pfarmers complained about the taxes he imposed to fund it. it took Twenty years for the effect of mass education to be seen, when those students started to graduate. Today even his enemies hail him as a visionary and a hero. You don’t enrol your child in primary school and see him become a graduate tomorrow, next week, next month or next year. But while he goes through the process, you endure the pain of the struggle to finance that education. If you want to send your child to school today and expect a g radiate tomorrow, or expect you will not have to struggle to pay fees and other costs, you are not ready to have an educated child. They forget they were the same people who complained and mocked him. Our tendency for short termism is why we are in the mess we are… not Tinubu. Tinubu is not the one that did not rehabilitate a single refinery while spending almost $10b a year on subsidies for 24 years. Tinubu was not the one that subsidized the Naira for 24 years and allowed bankers and business men to make money roundtripping the Naira for 24 years without creating any factories. Etc etc etc Like I said focus on the ineptitude of the opposition, a government no matter how good requires a formidable opposition to keep it honest. Right now PDP/LP are not an opposition because they can’t win an election the way they are going in the next 2 decades. They have not shown from their utterances and actions that they understand why they lost an election they had no right to lose. All they are doing is just noise and that is dangerous because it leads to complacency of govt. you don’t win elections by propaganda, you win by strategic planning. Atiku and Obi have been focusing on propaganda and not on strategy. It does not matter how many times you abuse Tinubu or criticize the govt or how manny boreholes you commission in the North or how many mosques you visit. The people that didn’t vote for Obi or Atiku in 2023 are not going to vote for them in 2027. Tinubu paid no attention to both during the campaign to the extent of not even dignifying them by attending a debate and won because he was strategic. He knew the people that watch debates are largely elites who are a minority and don’t decide elections. And if you cannot win an election, you are just as useless an opposition as Sowore because you are not a threat politically to the govt. Focus your energies on Atiku and Obi because the path they are on means even if you do not like Tinubu or APC, they will continue to be in power until OBi and PDP and their supporters reset their brains. You cannot take a path that failed you in 2019, got even worse for you in 2023 and then double down on that path and think it will lead you to the promised land. 3 Likes |

Sowunmi thinks he is smart. He is trying to use reverse psychology to appear sympathetic and hopefully woo Bello and El Rufai to PDP. He should realize that thanks to Obi and Atiku PDP is finished and any hopes of them regaining power at the center is dead thanks to Obi. The more he opens his mouth to grab the headlines, the more difficult it is for him to swallow humble pie and reconcile with PDP. He can’t become president without PDP (many of whom will never forgive him and give him their ticket) and PDP cannot win the presidency without his Ibo votes. Obi is a regional candidate PDP is a state party. One day APC will lose power, the party that will wrestle power from them will not be PDP and it won’t be LP and the presidential candidate will not be Atiku or Obi. It also will not happen in the next 15 years…possibly even 23! People seem not to grasp the mortal blow OBi and Atiku have dealt to the concept of a meaningful opposition. Statements like this from Showunmi and Obi’s daily utterances show they don’t know the magnitude of the problem they created for themselves and face going forward. 6 Likes 3 Shares |

WantsandMore: It’s part of the inefficiencies of decades of subsidies in all aspects of our lives. Like you said even our house designs pay no consideration to energy consumption because energy was so cheap. Big rooms require more energy to cool, we do t design houses for natural cooling etc etc. this inefficiencies caused by subsidies is pervasive in all aspects of Nigerian life and it’s why we have nothing to export because we are so inefficient our products are not competitive with t(e exception of Crude Oil and even the. We’ve managed to cripple that industry because the Nigeria. Pysche has not been programmed to be efficient. Ask anyone who lives abroad, even window glazing to keep the heat/cold in, door and window seals to keep out air draft and possible heat exchanges to keep the home cooling/heating more efficient are a big deal. Ask a typical Nigerian how much power his appliances use he doesn’t know. The average westerner considers the fuel consumption of his car or the wattage and efficiency of his appliances as a factor in purchasing decisions. The good thing is hopefully we have started a process that can’t be reversed, Nigerians will be forced to focus on fuel/energy consumption in their purchase choices. 3 Likes |

ppogba: In fairness, security lights are necessary and especially in these days of LED lightbulbs they don’t consume much. AC is the real power guzzler. AC can consume in 1hr what your lights will consume the whole night. As an example if I were relying solely on NEPA (no solar). And do not use AC for a whole month, my electricity bill will be approx 70-100k a month at the new band A rate of 246/kWh. If I used my AC reasonably for a month, it would be N700k a month. If I used AC like I used to 10 years ago, God knows what the NEPA bill would be today. NOTE: these AC,s are normal compressor ACs. Inverter ACs will be less but still a lot. 2 Likes |

kingzjay: There was a time many years ago when the AC in my room was on 24/7 whether I was home or not because I liked coming home to a cool room. The tarrif increase before this one was when I stopped. I live in an area with stable electricity and electricity was very cheap. I also remember when I was a child that my dad always left the AC in his office on. So to that point the minister has a point that subsidizing electricity had inculcated bad habits in us as a people. The example he gave about freezer was a bad one. 1) because a lot of freezers don’t actually consume much power and 2) AC is the real power guzzler. It was when I first installed solar when diesel went to N700 that I realized just how much power ACs consume and that all the noise I was making in the house over people leaving lights on was inconsequential relative to what the ACs consume. When I lived abroad then no born me to leave ordinary light bulb on if I am not in the room talk less leave the house heater on when I am out. Same with petrol…the way I drove abroad with expensive petrol (and more importantly the constant questioning if the journey is necessary) was different from In Nigeria with cheap petrol. Subsidies do indeed create bad habits. Nigeria is a very unproductive country and one (I said one not “the”) reason is subsidies in almost everything, petrol, forex, tertiary education, electricity etc. when everything is subsidized you lose creativity and innovation and ultimately your productivity. In lay man’s language you become lazy and entitled when things are done for you. 8 Likes 1 Share |

There is a minister called Akali? As far as tourism, whoever heads that ministry has the easiest job…there is nothing to deliver and a plethora of legitimate reasons why it is unreasonable in the near future to expect any progress in that sector. Tourism cannot take off in Nigeria without infrastructure, roads, adequate security, hospitality etc so we might as well scrap it for now. We that are in Nigeria are afraid to travel to explore our country because of these reasons, so why would a foreigner when there are other countries to explore with requisite infrastructure? Ministry of tourism should be scrapped and any skilled sector staff deployed to foreign affairs and culture ministries until such a time when we have fixed the underlying infrastructure necessary for toirism. 13 Likes |
