TaminaliaCatapa:
But think, Nigeria is a consuming nation. Can Nigeria produce pencil? Everything is imported and guess what? Nobody gets paid in Naira when you import the ordinary air you breathe
Take your L and move on. Stop digging.

Nigeria’s total imports in 2024 was $40B. That’s Less than 10% of the economy using 2024 GDP or 15% of the economy using rebased GDP. Either way it means most expenditure 85-90% is in Naira, domestic and not fully correlated with the movement of the Naira/ usd . Most of the economy is agric and services, for example the only component of agric that is affected by the dollar is Fuel. fuel is a small component of the cost of produce so fluctuations in Naira don’t correlate 1:1 to the price of agric products.

GDP in USD is only meant for use in international comparisons. Precisely because it is not a true reflection is why GDP PPP was introduced because the purchasing power of a dollar is different in different countries. When assessing a local economy you use its local currency. Germans don’t assesses the German economy in dollars.

Naira was 1650 a few months ago, today it is 1530, has our GDP suddenly gone up 8% simply because the Naira appreciated? Is the country you are in feel like a country with 8% growth? That alone should inform you of the error in a Nigerian assessing the performance of the Nigerian economy in anything other than Naira.

You you lost the argument……Stop digging.

All you are doing is proving you are not knowledgeable!

I am trying to say the version I know accords with the Alaafin being the rightful King of all Yorubas - while the Ooni was basically a priest. I was asking you if this is right.

Provide the history books you were taught with here and show us what the history taught you. Oyo Rose to power in 14th century and collapsed in 17th century. Owu, Owo, Ijesaland, Ijebuland, ugbo(Ilaje), Idanre are all more ancient than the most ancient Oyo settlement.
Apologies, my issue was always that Oranmiyan left ile-ife leaving behind an Ooni that wasn’t an Oduduwa blood line. On that basis I had always believed the Ooni wasn’t a Oduduwa bloodline.

Somehow or the other (I guess old age is catching up with me). I was shocked to be told by the head of our family line that Oranmiyan came back to Ife to reclaim his stool leaving behind his son as Alaafin in Oyo and later Ooni in ife. So the Oduduwa bloodline was indeed restored in ife.

I eat humble pie and you are free to gloat, I deserve it. I had read many historical accounts and it is embarrassing that I missed or likely forgot the account of Oranmiyan returning to Ife.

I shall delete all previous erroneous posts.

Like I said, only individuals capable of CRITICAL THINKING will understand my message.
If you were capable of critical thinking you would understand the concept of PPP and the economy does not run in dollars.

Most governments have 3-4x previous allocations in Naira but most expenses are local and in Naira meaning the money they are getting has more pichasing power.

If we were taking the increased Naira and spending it abroad then you would be right but in Nigeria we spend Naira. It’s about the purchasing power of the Naira in the a Nigerian economy.

For example, wages which is almost half of recurrent expenditure of most states has not doubled (the only people with double wages are minimum wage earners of which there are actually only a few relative to overall govt payroll). yet their revenue has tripled.

Again price of cement has doubled but revenue has more than tripled in Naira which means we are getting more value. So Mr Critical thinking Mathematician, this is a Naira economy!

It’s funny how the lazy youth always come on social media saying give the younger generation…….

Do you know how old Kalu was when he became a governor? Nobody gave it to him!

I gave up on Nigerian youths when after staging the ENDSARS riots which shook the govt, instead of them taking advantage of the movement and their demographic, they decided to surrender to 60+yr old fraud in Peter Obi and waste the momentum of the movement. Allowing themselves to be captured by a tribal agenda!

Nobody is giving you anything. You get what you work for. Tinubu was a senator at 40, Orji Kalu was a governor 39!

Secondly only citizens who don’t think, change a ranking senator who represents them. For instance if it were the turn of the south to become senate president, a first time senator can never be elected.

There is a reason assembly members don’t have term limits. If a senator is representing you well, keep re-electing him. Senate is not supposed to be a merry go round.

Your own history is so flawed. Firstly, Oranmiyan was neither the 1st born nor last born of Oduduwa. Secondly, Alaafin is neither the first born nor last born of Oranmiyan. Even if the Oonis aren't the descendants of Oduduwa as you wrongfully said, they're pure Ife people, If not, Ife people and their Elus/leaders wouldn't have accepted them. Also note that Oduduwa never established Ile-Ife. Several leaders like Oranfe, Agbọnmiregun, Obatala etc had ruled Ile-Ife before the arrival of Oduduwa.
You said there was no known Ooni before Sir Adesoji Aderemi after Oranmiyan? You're joking, right? The likes of Obamakin, Ogun, Obalufon, Ogbogbodirin, Lajemisan, and those who reigned during the colonial era like Derin Ologbenla, Olubuse 1 (that every other Oba including Alaafin vacated their thrones for when he travelled to Lagos), Ademoluyi Ajagun looked like a joke to you?
your 1st problem is your english comprehension. First of all i never said oranmiyan was the 1st or last born of Oduduwa, some accounts will tell you he was a grandson. I never said ooni's are not pure ife people. stop making things up. I am a descendant of a past exiled OOni. what i said was all the ooni's from the time oranmiyan left ife till Aderemi was elevated above the Allafin are curiously absent in the stories of Yorubaland, wheras most stories revolve around the many Alaafins.

you are free to believe whatever story you want. Abuse and insults will not force me to accept your version. I have a functional brain, I am not an Obidient. i am a descendant of an OOni, it is in my interest for the OOni to be the superior King but from what I have read, on the balance of probability, he isnt. The the stool in ife is the throne of the yorubas i am not doubting that but based on the fact that I beleieve the story of the traditional priest ursurping the throne and oranmiyan leaving to establish his own kingdom leaving the OPA behind. there is no evidence that that priest was removed and the occupant is a descendant of oduduwa and therefore his descemdants. for me the ooni's are a line from the traditonal preist who ursurped the throne. thats the version that makes sense to me, thats the version i believe....you can shout and insult me from here to ife and back. I have a list of my ancestors to about 1500AD, even my elders are fuzzy on actual details so no unknown from the internet is going to convince me otherwise when professors and people who have actuaklly spent their lives studying ife history say otherwise.

In any event, since we dont document our history, no one can claim 100% accuracy to his story. its all theories, probalities, possibilities and likelyhoods. If you have to insult people to accept your version, your version is likely false!

this is a topic of last week. i dont have time for further engagement especially with someone with poor english comprehension who says i said things i didnt say.

From what Taribo said, did he say they were hungry?

Peter Rufai established an NGO helping children achieve their dreams.

What West is saying isn't really about money they way you guys have changed the whole narrative, he's talking about recognition for job done for the country and paying of respect for the day by honoring them during their funeral.

Most of the names you listed, go and check them, some are now into promoting betting sites, gambling, alcohol promotion and the likes.

So it's not about comparing, it's about what the country end up doing for this players as a sign of appreciation at their funerals.
Ok I stand corrected. The sports ministry should have been represented. If that’s his issue. I confess I didn’t watch the video. However there are official protocols for these things. You just don’t bury someone and expect the govt to be there. Sometimes if you want official govt presence and recognition at your funeral, you have to officially notify the govt. don’t just assume that they heard of his death in the news. Former senate president Wayas died and his body was languishing in London for years, he was buried recently and given a befitting commendation service at the senate. But you know what? The senate president said they thought he had been buried all these years because no one from the family notified them of his burial or any difficulties they were having.

When I buried my dad, we were just going to bury him as a family thing, we didn’t know we had to officially inform his former office even though he had retired, he was their former head. They were the ones annoyed with the family for not informing them and We had to make an alteration to the burial schedule to accommodate them and they came with full representation all the way from Abuja to our village in the SW.

govt officials attending a funeral involves many things, they may want to be part of the programme, they may want to hpgive a speech, letter of commendation, possible gift to family, the petrol, the drivers allowance, the out of station allowances for official representatives, all these thing must be requested for and approved officially by someone in the minsyptry. If someone does not make the official request, nothing happens…that’s how govt works. So the question then is did the family give the sports ministry official notice of the funeral? When this story is finished I can guarantee you they didn’t inform the ministry.

If there is one thing I can guarantee about federal govt agencies, no matter how broke, it is sending representatives to funerals of dead high ranking officials from that agency. They don’t play trust me because they all know their own will come and it’s an opportunity for out of station allowances. So long as they are officially informed. Peter Rufai though not a direct ex employee was a national asset, if the family informed them they would have sent a delegation.

Like players were making good money then. Seems you are judging some of these players with those who play now or those who played in big clubs.
.

It was good money then if you are not greedy. Please take a good luck at the Nigeria World Cup squad of 1994 and 1998.

Why are you hungry and they aren’t?

Many of them became internationally more influential after their careers, emenelo was director of football for Chelsea and is currently the director of the Saudi league. Loosen became a manager in Belgium and other countries, Amokachi, eguavon, keshi, sis sis, amunike all became international managers or assistants, ekoku and ikpeba utilised their skills as pundits, taribomwas busy wearing white garment, I don’t know what Rufai was doing, maybe he was too proud to ask his influential teammates for a job or to point him in the right direction.

If you want to use the argument that the money wasn’t as high as now, you can go through the list and see how many of those players played at the same time with the same low wages.

Where were Rufai and Taribo when their mates were taking coaching badges or looking for punditry or football related work? Taribo decided to form a church. Life is about choices we make.

Your Nigerian team mate was the technical director of Chelsea for 7 years under Abramovich and you are hungry?

Talking about the economy does not fix the economy. The public whether APC or confused collision of ADC or LP or Obidients are not the managers of the economy, so talking is just a waste of time.

What is productive is to question people who put themselves forward for president. Because ultimately they will run the economy.

Are they leading a double life, are they gay, is the wife allowed to have affairs as part of a sham marriage arrangement? Because when a man is never seen with his wife and she lives a flamboyant life at odds which the prudent life he preaches and then he comes on the honest bunch to say he doesn’t care if his wife has an affair, you wonder what’s going on. That’s the job of the public just like it was your job to question a presidential candidate over his certificate and forfeiture of funds linked to drugs.
