CoronaVirusPro:It’s alsready too late. The future is about tech and manufacturing. They are dominated by the US in tech (in fact they hardly have any significant tech industry) and their manufacturing industries are collapsing due to China. |
CoronaVirusPro:They are a most useless continent. They have lost economically to America and China and are dependent on immigrants for survival. Things like this are exactly why their destruction is asssured. Why would any country invest in your economies, bonds or keep their reserves in your currencies or countries and banks if you can seize their assets because one day you don’t like their face? |
okito:Another full blocked! |
okito:Occupying office is not power. Ask GEJ, ask Ambode, ask Fubara! A technocrat who occupies high office only to the extent that he doesn’t upset the apple cart only has the illusions of power. He serves at the pleasure of those with power. Reforms require true power. It’s amazing how you people say he would be a good president but then in the same post will talk about how he was sabotaged and nullified as VP. Somehow your medula did not connect that you are providing the ammunition for the execution of your position. Like the poster I replied to above, you just provided with your own hands why he would never have been a successful president. The position you hold does not always equate to power. For example, Umaru Dikko was more powerful than Shagari himself. Abba Kyari despite holding no official post ran Buhari’s govt. I know a commissioner who is more powerful than his governor. SAs who are more powerful than their ministers etc. Don’t get carried away with the title of the office. It is the political power that got you there that holds the power of the office. If it your political power then you can do as you like otherwise you will eventually bow to the political power that put you there or be prepared for a fight or gridlock. |
poiZon:In this life one must always pray to be blessed with intelligence. Otherwise you end up arguing against yourself without even realizing it. It’s a big crime to come into this world without it. You have just given an example of why he would never succeed. Nobody has said technocrats don’t have good ideas or don’t know what to do or don’t have the willpower to execute. The problem is because they lack political power they will come up against resistance from entrenched interests and these people usually have political power. 10 out of 10 times the man with political power will win against the technocrat without. NOI had 2 terms in office. One with OBJ and one with GEJ. Because OBJ had political power and gave her cover, she was very successful in her 1st term. In her second term, GEJ only occupied office and he wasn’t in charge of his government so he couldn’t give her the political cover to enact her reforms. She kept shouting and warning….nobody listened to her. All the governors came and dwindled the ECA from $15B to about $2b. We started borrowing to pay salaries under her second term as minister, she tried to remove subsidy because she knew it was the right thing to do but nobody listened to her….because she had no political power and her boss didn’t have either. A woman of her pedigree, the reality is her. Seconds term under Jonathan was an unmitigated disaster. But it wasn’t her fault, she knew what to do and was willing to but she and her boss lacked the political power to bulldoze her plans through the entrenched interests with political power. There is a difference between occupying office and having power. Same thing happened to Ambode, his waste removal reforms was in the right direction but he didn’t have the political power because he is a technocrat not a politician. The real politicians ( the grassroots politicians and mobilizers) resisted because PSP contracts is where they get paid. Because he isn’t a politician he didn’t handle it well thinking as technocrats do that this is progress so the grassroots politicians gave Tinubu an ultimatum ….Ambode must go…..and he fell! Such is their political power and anger that even Tinubu could not save him, realsing a leader without followers is not a leader. He sanctioned his exit. If you don’t have political power, you can’t implement any reforms in Nigeria and survive. Osinbajo is not a politician, he lost his ward in 2015, he ran to Ikene to contest under the safety of a safe APC zone, he was humiliated as a sitting Vice President in the primaries, he lost his polling unit and ward in the governorship elections of 2019. He has no political power and that’s why he became a lapdog after that incident you mentioned. Those with power fought back and rendered him impotent from that day forward in the administration to the point of even withdrawing his staff. Examples abound. Running a country is not about having brilliant ideas, brilliant ideas are 2 a penny in Nigeria. it’s about the ability to navigate and triumph over the establishment and entrenched interests even in your own government. For that you need political power not just occupying the office. That is why people like osinbajo, Adeshina, NOI will fail as presidents of Nigeria. Running Nigeria is not about IQ or speaking English. Very few Nigerians have been able to successfully transition from technocrat to politician and succeed because it requires a shift in mindset that is alien to the Pysche of a technocrat. The few who have succeeded include Umahi, FAshola and Soludo. But they succeeds because they suppresed their natural instinct to think and act like a technocrat or at least are able to understand that 1+1 can be anything depending on who or the circumstance. To a technocrat 1+1 is always 2…that’s why they fail in politics without political cover. A politician knows which battles to fight and Perhaps if Osinbajo had not sacked the DSS DG, who knows he may have stood a better chance of becoming president but the action you praise him for is exactly what killed his chances before it even started. See how Tinubu removed subsidy, see how he stopped forex roundtripping. Only a politician could do that. It is precisely because he is a politician and knows the ways of politician that he didn’t consult anyone. See the tax bill, remember the resistance? A technocrat would have withdrawn the bill for consultation as requested by the senate only for the consultations to be endless and the bill would never see the light of day. . Only a politician would say no you make your adjustments and come back to me. |
aribisala0:You are reasoning like an Obidient….dull! Practitioners of Politics are called politicians and subject matter specialists are called technocrats. Technocrats occupy office, politicians have power. If you occupy office and are not a politician, those with power will consume you. The problem with technocrats if they get to power and behave like technocrats and they ultimately get consumed by politics thinking they have power they don’t really have because they occupy an office. Examples abound, Osinbajo, ElRufai etc. they function in their specialist subject area under the cover of a powerful politician. Leave them to their own devices and they destroy themselves because they don’t understand politics. Now tell me again was Osinbajo ever made acting president after that incident? Were his powers not curtailed after that incident including withdrawal and reassignment of his staff? He was saved by Buhari because he didn’t know his limits and he didn’t know his limits because he is not a politician. |
BafanaBafana:Osinbajo would have been a mediocre president. Speaking English up and down but ultimately achieving nothing. The president Nigeria needed in 2023 and in 2027, is more than anything a man with the political capital to press forward necessary but painful reforms. Osinbajo would have been sabotaged and blocked. |
Back in the day there was first bank, UBA and Union bank. They were the 1st tier banks. Union bank has just been languishing. I can’t remember last time I saw a Union bank branch. It used to be Barclays Bank. |
He says real reforms require more than 4 years, yet he has been saying Tinubu has failed after 2 years! I don’t know how many people noticed that. |
marticeus:It is only nepotism to you because since independence this is the 1st time in the history of civilian administrations in the country, you have not been a partner (always junior) at the federal level. |
A sitting president can never come 3rd talk less Tinubu. Which means he is either lying or his analysis is wrong. If he is lying then his analysis could have said Tinubu will win. If the assumptions in his analysis is faulty then the result is unreliable. |
This matter is very simple raise university fees to 1 or 2 million. Students can get a NELFUND loan to pay for it. |
ambale:You are still looking at this from an educated city dwellers point of view. You are using your aspirations to judge what should be the aspirations of a villager. It’s what I call the arrogance of the educated Nigerian. 1: If I don’t know I am missing out on something how do I demand it? 2: the people that should “enlighten” inspire of be role models are speaking English in the cities and don’t o home. 3: You look at the villager and say he is poor and illiterate. Did he tell you he is poor and wants your education? We keep looking at things from our point of view and assume the villagers want to be like us. You may be right you may be wrong but it is arrogant to make that choice for them. Simply because a man can’t speak English or write you assume he is unintelligent, simply because a man lives in the village and farms you assume he wants more and isn’t satisfied with his life. Did they tell you that? |
chopnaira:This guy deleted his post once Obi became presidential candidate! Unfortunately for him someone quoted him leaving evidence😂 When we tell people that the Ibos know Peter Obi is a disaster and they don’t mind saddling the rest of the country with a man they know lacks the capacity just to have an Ibo president….this is another of the numerous examples. Go through their post history they were either IPOB supporters or/and Obi bashers. If you like let them gaslight you. They have a mission, you will explain to yourself why you allowed them to gaslight you!

This is exactly what I was saying in another thread. Some people will come on Nairaland and Arise speaking English saying “the people of rivers”, “Nigerians this, “Nigerians that”. As if they represent or are in touch with the pulse of the people! |
fergie001:these numbers are huge especially for a Lg election. |
BATified2023:The lawsuit na audio. He will never proceed because he knows he has too many skeletons. The recent obi media hugging offensive (starting with Peter Rufai, lawsuit, passport,) is to change the story away from his son! |
BATified2023:The lawsuit na audio. He will never proceed because he knows he has too many skeletons. |
ambale:I think the bottom line and again it is something that I preach all the time. Educated people are not representative of Nigeria and that’s where we make our first and most crucial mistake. The second mistake is that in our collective arrogance we think our aspirations should also be the aspirations of the man in the village. We say the politicians weaponize poverty, maybe but the reality is the man in the village doesn’t care about the issues the educated city dweller cares about. The village man is not interested in Exchange rate, whether PH refinery is working or not, whether a governor has convoy or not, whether Tinubu bought jet or not. Most of them have never seen arise TV or channels. His life is governed by simple things, borehole, farm inputs, rural roads, schools and medical care. The quicker the educated city dweller starts to understand how the village or rural people think and what matters to them the quicker we get of our high horses and understand the future of this country. Like it or not these people are 80% of the electorate and determine you future. Politicians know this basic fact that seems to elude the city people with all their education.. EducTed people should also understand what democracy is. It is government by the majority. We are not the majority! We are the minority, we will have our say but the majority will have their way. The folly of the educated Nigerian is that he advocates for democracy because he wants to be like the white man, yet he leaves the majority in the villages without guidance and then starts to argue and speak English in the city. I was having a discussion with someone on Nairaland the other day and I suggested that educated people should start to reconnect with their villages and even vote there….he was arguing with me. Firstly because as an educated person they would have influence on the voters in the village because you will be seen as a role model. Secondly, educated voters don’t make any difference to the votes in the cities and thirdly, about 90 of the 109 senators for example are voted in by largely uneducated villagers because all the educated indigenes from those villages don’t reside, visit or vote their and hence have no influence on their townspeople. |
Softmirror:While paternit6 fraud does exist. I am now convinced the publicity it is getting is more to do with a need to make money by the testing centers that the reality on the ground. Unfortunately, we live in a world where medicine is a business and even doctors can’t be trusted anymore. The modern day doctor is more likely to prescribe tests, treatment or medicines you don’t need because he or the hospital pharmacy is making money of it. |
PeterObiGuy:You see I always wonder when people come on platforms and say the X people or the Y people are not happy with Z. Then elections come and the X people and the Y people vote for Z. To me it says either The people commenting are not in touch with the grassroots and it is not the people that are unhappy but the commentators. I am not from Rivers and I don’t want to interfere or comment on Rivers affairs, my comment is a general one because I hear a lot of comments on Nairaland and other media with people usually Obidients saying “Nigerians are this”, “Nigerians are that”. It brings me back to something I always preach: Educated Nigerians who are the demographic that tend to make these comments, represent only 10% of the population. How many of them are in touch with the other 90%? |
Peter Obi claims the stake in the brewery by next was ok because he had nothing to do with the company and it was a family business. Same way he said the property in GRA which was bought while he was governor was bought by next and nothing to do with him. But today he is a director and a shareholder in next, which means ultimately he owns the property in GrA and shares in the brewery. That he “resigned” from next while he was governor does not mean The shares in the breweries and the property in GRA Ikeja don’t belong to him. That’s money laundering!

WebsiteMaster:He can’t and he won’t. A common tactic is to threaten to sue and even get your lawyers to file, to give the impression to the public that you have been wronged but never actually proceed with the case. I am not a lawyer so I can’t give you the technical details. Peter Obi CANNOT afford for to actually pursue the case. He has too many skeletons in his cupboard. Mark my words he will drop the case. It’s just hot air. I am not a fan of Adeyanju but Peter has too many skeletons. |
what is COS? never mind. i just googled it. |
Gerrard59:Ok by educated i mean people with tertiary education. in total we are around N20m less than 10% of the population. Those who went to good schools and got the best education and have degrees are even less...they are the ones i say know each other. Gerrard59:if you remove primary real estate (home) the number is a lot less trust me. Personally i think it is pointless assesing a man's wealth based on the value of his home. He cant sell it or he is homeless and if he sells it he will have to buy another one, so the property is for all intents and pourpose of no value except in an emergency or as inheritance. there are a lot of people who have homes that are valuable not because they paid that price for it but because they bought when it was affordable, they dont have the income of a millionaire and cant sell. I know average people who bought land in Lekki phase one when it was 1m and still live there, same with Banana. There are many people living the good life or faking it but whose net worth is negative or peanuts. We must understand that in Nigeria image is everything especially if you are self employed. Many of those assumed to be millionaires in Nigeria only have the outward appearance because once they are perceived otherwise, they are shut out. Favours and business come because you are perceived as someone of stature. if you live according to your true means while you are struggling, you will almost definitely find it harder to get the favours or the business you are looking for. it is even worse with many of the big names. As an example we heard of a media mogul who was owing a bank, hadnt paid salaries etc. this is the SOP for many of the so called billionaires, they go to banks with buiness plans, obtain huge loans, live a false life of the loans but many dont know a lot of them are knee deep in debt. |
Bliss4Lyfe:I have no idea but her crown (MU Nigeria) is not worth $3m |
bdon123:This is another example of the mistake NIgerians make. It’s something I have said on Nairaland many times. The number of educated people in Nigeria are not that many, the number of truly rich people in Nigeria are not that many. The rich know themselves because they are not many. The educated know themselves because they are not many and went to the same schools. The circle is small because they are not many. To start with how many houses in Lagos and Abuja are worth $1m? How many Nigerians have shares in the stock market? You will be shocked! Most educated city dwelling NIgerians are not representative of Nigeria. The noise makers are the minority. In politics and as in this example in terms of wealth. You will be shocked how many Nigerians driving Gwagons and range rovers, beg or borrow money to pay school fees or how many of those cars are 2nd hand! It is why educated people speaking on Arise think they represent NIgerians and are shocked by election results or why we think there are more wealthy NIgerians than there really are. I have no doubt the spot figure is higher but most of the people who would push the figure higher are here today gone tomorrow kind of millionaires……yahoo boys, politicians, criminally sourced wealth of different flavours, govt contractors etc. |
Bliss4Lyfe:No the crown remains with the MU at all times. MU is only allowed to use it on official assignments. She is given a replica. Your statement is misleading. It is the winner who has to pay the value of the crown if she wants to retain the original. The value of the miss universe Nigeria crown is estimated at between $5000 and $20,000. Considering the relatively small cost it is possible she is allowed to keep the original Nigeria crown. My comments above are related to the miss universe crown which in any event she didn’t win. Talk of a $3m crown is fake news! |
aribisala0:She can’t even take it home. |
First of all, winners do not get to keep the crown. They remain the possession of the miss universe organization. They are given a replica. Just like the World Cup and EapL trophies. Secondly the only crowns she has are miss universe Nigeria and MU Africa. There is no way the miss universe Nigeria crown is worth $3m talk less thee replica. @kobicove |
