Mynd44: Akinomoakin021:Apparently there is an old thread on the matter https://www.nairaland.com/7943010/percentage-lagos-state-landmass-formed#127515289 |
Mccullum:I just posted about this in another thread where I estimated the so called federal territory was only about 5% of modern Lagos state. Nice to see you resurfaced this thread. |
barika2011:Oga you don’t seem to get it. I am not the one who determines anything. Ibos like you have already determined Obi’s fate. There are tens of millions of northern Muslims and SW voters who will never leave their house to vote for Obi. I am telling you as it is! |
Slytiger:Many people do not understand that Lagos state was created out of the Egbas to the west and the Ijebus to the east. Both of which were part of old western region. When people say this person is not from Lagos it’s because they don’t know. Ikorodu lekki and Epe for instance are ijebu people! Abule Egba Ipaja etc are Egba people. Abule Ijesha are Ilesha people. I always laugh when outsiders especially Ibos who don’t know yoruba history say that Lagos is no man’s land because Yorubas with roots in Oyo, ogun or Osun states are involved or commenting about Lagos. Like Reno said, Lagos federal territory is different from and is probably only 5% of the land mass of Lagos state. Lagos state has people with ancestral links to everywhere in yoruba land and even parts of Niger state. We have no ancestral links with Ibos, we have never shared any borders, ancestral or cultural links with them. Lagos business I’m not their business because a man from Osun or Ogun is involved in Lagos affairs.. Finally a little known fact about Lagos. Most of the returnee slaves are not actually from Lagos, many were captured slaves from Ilesha, Egba etc that simply settled in Lagos upon return. The are prominent families in Lagos who originated from present day Niger state and had been there centuries because the slaves returned. Finally finally, GRV cannot trace his family history in Lagos beyond the day his returnee slave ancestors arrived. Which means he is possibly not even Yoruba. Many of the prominent returnee slave families can trace their ancestry to Ilesha, Abeokuta etc even though they settled in Lagos. There are many returnee slave families that traced their ancestry when they got back because your history would have been handed down to you. Ask Gbadebo or his family for his Oriki, I bet you he has none! |
barika2011:Yea I can. I can speak for the North, the SW and the SE. The Muslim north and the SW will never vote for Obi, just like the SE will never vote for Tinubu. Why am wrong on the North and SW but right about the SE? I am not a fan of Onojuwa but I recognize when a man is making sense and coming from a place of logic. Like he said, Tuesday will always follow Monday. To say so is not playing God, it’s just using the brain God hgve you and observing patterns and occurrences in the world. Obi will never be president of Nigeria is not playing God. It is merely using an ne’s brain to observe the arithmetic and political realities. You don’t like the conclusion, that’s not my problem and not his. Your last 4 words is one of the main reasons he can’t be president. I have made my points, I didn’t insult anyone. You can talk without insulting people or their tribe……and you expect these same people to forget and vote for you? The votes you need ( the Muslim north and the SW) have been recipients of all manner of insults since 2015. While not all Ibos represent that manner of behavior, Obi and his followers represent those sorts of abusive insulting Ibos. You don’t spend 10yrs insulting the people whose votes you need and expect them to vote for you. It doesn’t work that way. Friday may take a few days but it will eventually come after a Monday! For that reason only, we will not vote for him. Lack of support for Obi is the Friday that comes 4 days after Monday. That is even putting his lack of competence to one side. Like omojuwa said Tuesday always follows Monday. It’s not playing God! It’s just using your brain. If today is Monday, tomorrow can never be Sunday! So also based on the situation on the ground, Obi will never be president of Nigeria! So yes I speak for the North and for the SW that both of us are United that Obi will never become president. The North will rather manage another 4 yrs off Tinubu than vote in Obi and if they are determined to remove Tinubu they will draft in GEJ. Either way there is no Obi presidency of that I am 100% certain. There are consequences for bad behavior! |
barika2011:Clap for yourself. Save your fake propaganda to those who have no brains. The rest of us with functioning brains know what kind of governor Peter Obi was. Clearly you are the ones who are going to make him president abi? The north you insulted for 8 yrs are not voting for him, the SW you have insulted are certainly not voting for him. The political “structure of criminality” will not support him to mobilize votes and funding because they don’t trust him. But no doubt, you learnt arithmetic different from everyone else such that without SW and Northern Votes Obi can be president.. |
barika2011:He can be president because he is a Nigerian and can contest (Sowore is an ever present candidate and for that matter so was Awo). but just as Awo never won so also Obi will never win because he hasn’t got what it takes to be president, he hasn’t got the people that matter on his side. Nobody becomes president on his own. You need the right people to work for you to be president and those people must be able to mobilize votes and funds as well as you becoming president being in their interests. It is not in the interests of the people who matter for OBI to be president…full stop! Not just that he doesn’t have them on his side, they detest him. I have also said ( and feel free to insult me as you always do) the energy you have wasted on an unelectable Obi will come back to haunt you because the next president from the south will go to the SS. |
owobokiri:When you react emotionally, you make him sound like a genius. I have been telling you exactly everything he said for the last 3 years, you insult me. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist or even a B student to see that Peter Obi can never become president of Nigeria. It is you being emotional and ignoring the obvious that gives him the platform to state the obvious and be right. Prove him wrong! |
barika2011:He specifically addressed people like you in his interview. When people tell you the reality, you ignore the reasons he gave and respond by saying people are playing God instead of addressing the issue. Like he said, God gave you a brain, you choose not to use it. That’s your problem. |
It’s not just that Obi can’t be president, It will take a miracle for an ibo to become president in the next 40yrs. As it stands the ibos have alienated a lot of people particularly the 2 largest voting blocks of North and SW. |
ClearFlair:The reality is his opinion doesn’t matter but it does when it also reflects the overwhelming opinion of the people whose votes Obi needs to be president. So yes his opinion matters. |
ufotunang:I found Parisian drivers ato be very aggressive, I wanted to return home without my car involved in a fender bender. There is hardly a car you will see in Paris without a dent on it. |
I’m surprised France isn”t on the list. I once took a road trip to Paris. I had to park my car and take public transport throughout our stay in Paris. |
When you elect daft representatives, you get daft bills. This bill is dead on arrival and it is unconstitutional. |
Validated:My most used sentence on Nairaland is that NIgerians speak English but lack English comprehension. Most of the controversial issues of the day are usually down to poor English comprehension. To read but not understand what you are reading. Nothing inconsistent if you read the whole statement. The exact statement from SDP is: “The NWC, therefore and hereby, decides that by confirming and ratifying the denunciation of El-Rufai, which was earlier done by his Unguwar Sarki Ward, Kaduna North Local Government Area and the Kaduna State Executive Committee in Kaduna, the SDP at all levels disassociates, disclaims, dis-fellowships and excommunicates El-Rufai as a member of the SDP. And to the extent that he purportedly claims membership by self registration or any other means, he is consequently, expelled from the membership of the Social Democratic Party anywhere in Nigeria and globally.” I.e he is not a member but even if he claims to be, or if by any means he actually registered, let it be known that he is expelled. It is called a conditional statement. They don’t believe there is any record of him being a member but if for any reason it turns out he actually registered and is a member, he is nonetheless expelled. The reason for that is simple. Their records at his ward show he is not a member. However if for some reason he actually is a member and their records were inaccurate, let it be known that he is expelled. If they just said he is not a member and it turns out later he actually registered elsewhere e.g Abuja, then legally he would be a member. It’s the kind of sloppiness that has landed many parties in trouble. It shows thoroughness by SDP. |
Elineska:Oga that is 1999 story, move on! |
Afe Babalola is one of Nigeria’s greatest all time lawyers! Nobody can show you his alma mater or class mates from secondary school……why? Because he didn’t go to school. He studied at home and passed the external exams for admission abroad. This was the norm in those days. Many did not go to school but studied at home. Many of Todays youth do not k ow what privilege they have that education is state sponsored and compulsory! I think the fact that education is free explains in part why we are producing so many unintelligent graduates. If you had to struggle for your education, you’d work harder and be more focused. Tinubu does not have Nigerian classmates because his parents could not afford to send him to school and he had to study on his own. If anything it is a testament to his determination to pull himself out of poverty. Something to be admired not mocked! Did he lie in 1999 that he went to GCI, yes. Did he graduate from CSU with as 1st class in accounting yes. Is he your president Yes! Deal with it. |
AMINDA:So you know it is not about elections. Please I beg of you don’t vote for Tinubu. For the record. The Lagos coastal road is a 700km road between Lagos and Calabar. The Lagos section is only 47km, the entire section of the road in yoruba land is less than 150km. This is the propaganda you people are known for just like you claim Lagos was developed with Federal money. There is no where in Nigerianthat wasn’t developed with federal money and the part of Lagos that was “Federal” was ikoyi, Victoria island, yaba and Lagos island. Every other part of what is Lagos state today was western region and developed under Awo. You feel you have a right to Lagos because a few square kilometers used to be federal territory. Like I said federal Lagos is different from Lagos state. Lagos state was created out of surrounding Egba and ijebu regions. Secondly Lagos is no longer Federal territory. |
AMINDA:Story! Fix your homeland because ours was a not, is not and never will be yours! You will not take in your ancestral land what you have been doing in ours and we have had enough. From the masses to the elite. Keep your votes, we dont want it. I have told you this is not about election. |
AMINDA:Listen my friend, you started this. They say we are accommodating it’s not because we are mugus, it’s because we are slow to respond. You have been poking the bear, the bear is now responding. Your toxicity destroyed your land, we accommodated you, instead you want to destroy our land with your toxicity? This is not about election. We don’t care, if he losses he will come back home and we will give him a hero’s welcome. Awo that is greater than Tinubu never became president. Presidency is not that big a deal to us. We have a saying we do t call a monkey a cow because we want to eat meat. This that you have started goes beyond the election. Go and fix your land and do whatever you want there. This is yoruba land! Your nonsense over the last decade or so has awoken the average yoruba man from Motor park tout to professor. If Tinubu has to lose in 2027 for you people to know Yorubas land is yoruba land so be it! |
AMINDA:Typical gaslighting. Typical of you people trying to gaslight the SS and NC. They can think for themselves. We are not interested in SE votes. If God forbid, it SE votes that are needed to re-elect him then let him come back home. You unleashed the genie, you will reap what you have sown. |
AMINDA:Yes the same David mark who couldn’t deliver his state for Atiku with the resources of PDP. The same David mark whose Godson and current senator for his district Abba Moro has said on my occasions he is not defecting from PDP and that The time of the old men is over. The same David Mark whose daughter won house of rep seat in APC under his watch. Yes the same tired 77year old David Mark, the very same one! In fact Atiku got only 17% in Benue state. He came 3rd. David Mark’s state! You simpletons always make the same mistake but never learn. Just like Late Ayo Adebanjo, who had been politically retired and irrelevant since 2003, people like David Mark who have been retired politically and abandoned. They will do anything to be in the limelight again but in reality, they are politically irrelevant. Once you lose a political structure, you don’t get it back. Why do you think Wike is ready to bring the house down in Rivers? Go to the homes of yesterdays men like late Adebanjo and Mark and you will find lonely men who nobody visit, nobody calls. Men desperate for attention and relevance in their old age. Men who will tell you don’t leave or gladly tell you stories because they don’t want you to leave because nobody visits them anymore. They are happy to be wanted and needed again even if their suitors are desperados. The reality is they have nothing to offer and it is you giving them respite from abandonment in their old age, a last hoorah so to speak. In reality they are not the men they were anymore. There are many young voters who did not know who Adebanjo or David Mark were u til they were called out of retirement. Adebanjo got more out of Obi than Obi got out of Adebanjo and so it will be with David Mark! Life has moved on since these men left the stage! They can’t help anyone. The small boys they used to order around are now big men in their own right and don’t pick their calls anymore Once you lose power or your structure, you become irrelevant. Why do you think ElRufai is fighting to be relevant why do you think Wike is fighting to keep the Rivers structure? In any field of life, once you retire or are retired in your 60s, and you have been out of the picture for say 5 years, it is almost impossible to stage a comeback! David Mark’s boys like Abba Moro and Ortom were boys he used to give orders to, they are now heavyweights in their own right with their own structures. Do you think they will listen to him? Some won’t even pick his calls. When the old guard in the SW were tricked by OBJ and lost to PDP in 2023 and Tinubu survived, Tinubu became the Godfather and they became irrelevant. That is the history of Adebanjo’s resentment towards Tinubu that this “boy” is now the one calling the shots and has taken over the structure they built since the 1950s. With the exception of Akande and Osoba who Tinubu was partial to, none of the SW old guard remained politically relevant after 2003. That is why these old men take any appointment, ministerial, chairman of boards, constitutional conference etc……to remain relevant! Go to Someone like Falae’s house today, with reverence and due respect to him, all he can do is tell you stories, he has no control over votes in his domain. The difference between a man like Falae and Adebanjo or David Mark is that Falae has self respect and has things keeping him busy as an Oba and a farmer and has the sense not to tarnish or disrespect himself by seeking relevance or one last appearance on the stage in his old age. |
Playconsoler101:You need to define the purpose of the attraction. Attractive for sex is different from attractive for GF and is different from attractive for wife. Very few women posses all 3 and even fewer know which category they fall in. |
stanluiz:The problem with educated NIgerians is that we think education ends in the exam hall. We don’t think, we don’t analyze data, we just talk based on our emotions. Have you ever taken time to study the data, the demographics, the political permutations? Of the 5 Northern PDP governors 4 are either from the NE or NC. Whose turn is it to produce the president when power returns to the north?……NE or NC! If you were a Northern PDP governor, especially those whose terms end in 2031 from NE or NC, why would you support Atiku in 2027 or do anything to give Obi the justification for contesting in 2031? Please let us use our brains. Below is the current spread of governors by party. I hope this explains why ADC has no sitting governor backing them particularly from the North. The difference between Atiku, Obi and Tinubu is simple. Tinubu has many powerful political players even from the opposition whose political interests are served if he is re-elected. Whereas the heavyweight political actors lose if Atiku and Obi succeed. It is for that reason and that reason only that the 2015 coalition worked and this coalition will fail.
|
stanluiz:You people never learn. 1) Obi is not the Ibo man that will become a president of Nigeria. Not 2027,2031 or year 4000! 2) Northern Governors are eyeing the presidency in 2031, Atiku and Obi are stumbling blocks to that. That is why no northern governor is backing Atiku….even his own state governor. 3) For the same reason they are not supporting Atiku in 2027, they won’t back Obi in 2031…….they want 2031 for themselves, to do that, south must have no excuse for contesting, I.e south must have completed its 8yrs by 2031. 4) the play for Northern governors is to eliminate Atiku and Obi in one chess move. Once they sabotage both Atiku and Obi in 2027, the are both removed from the equation and any other competitors from the south for 2031. If you can’t see or understand the play, you don’t understand politics. The nature of Nigerian politics and our zoning arrangement is that the opportunity to become president is also hinged on established zoning arrangements but also how it affects the ambitions of the people whose support you need particularly governors. A northern politician who misses 2031 will have to wait for 2047! Buhari got Tinubu’s support because he knew he could afford to wait 8yrs, Tinubu shouted “Emilokan” because he knew 2023 was his only slot and if he missed it it won’t come again for another 16yrs. |
Zhtq:Peter Obi has always been a minority candidate. Even when he became governor, he never got 50%. The irony is that you accuse Tinubu of not being the president of the country because he only got 37% but Obi won Anambra with 34%. Yet the man who got 25% and this rejected by 75% of Nigerians is loved by the people of Nigeria? So when you say loved by the people, in none of his elections has ever won the majority vote! Either state or Presidential. Since he got 95% of Ibo votes in the presidential elections of 2023, at best you can say loved by Ibo people. Because as afar as Nigerians, he only got 25% of the votes in 2023.
|
richmond500:Makes something of your life first so the governor knows who you are. |
Reloadedisraelp:Nobody will trust that Obi will step down in 2031. People like Zamfara, Adamawa governor and Bala Mohammed will want to be President in 2031. The same reason they are not suppprting Atiku is the same reason they won’t support Obi. Peter Obi is that girl from the neighborhood who thinks more of herself than she really is She wants to mingle with the cool kids but isn’t desirable. However she does have one thing all boys want. She confuses any (6interest from the cool guys in her as genuine and ends up sleeping with every cool guy who shows interest in her in a bid for acceptance and validation. However none of them ever make her his girlfriend which is what she really wants. In those days we called such girls “anfani adugbo” translated as “for the benefit of the community”. She gets passed around, word gets around and becomes untouchable to the boys on her level she had snubbed. ADC want Peter Obi as VP for his 6m votes, PDP needs his 6m votes to revive the party knowing he won’t win. Like the anfani adugbo, it’s not Obi they want, it’s his 6m votes. If the girl had said to the boys marry me or treat me like a girlfriend before I sleep with you, all the boys would run. If Obi gave similar conditions those courting him, they would run! |
