You're on track brother.
Don't worry too much, if you survived Naija, you'll survive Oz.
And your medical profession is in high demand out here if you know your stuff. So, you may not have to worry about bills once you land a job.
Best wishes.

I support all that Bellong has said.

In addition, you may want to get a Forklift licence as most labour hire or recruitment agencies value that. Be careful though not to waste your little money gathering certificates that you may end up not using. Choose an industry or job of choice, and get the required certificate.

However, all these certificates DON'T guarantee you a job. It has more to do with your CV, Cover Letter and depth of search.
You need to look at some resumes of friends and adjust yours accordingly. You also need to try to sell yourself in your cover letter even if it means lying but be prepared to defend it. One trick that's also common in CVs for menial jobs is to REMOVE your degree and/or skilled experience as well as CLEARLY state your relevant skills relating to the job such as HARDWORKING, EXCELLENT COMMUNICATION, NUMERACY, HAND/EYE COORDINATION, USE OF TOOLS, etc. Like you said, AVAILABLE FULL TIME is the selling point. I wonder why you lack this during holiday. Finally, where and how you search for jobs matter. SEEK works for some, GUMTREE works for others, while Face-to-Face or Door-to-Door works as well.

IMPORTANT:
Don't apply and wait for reply especially when a phone number is included in the job ad. Send your application, wait half an hour or couple of hours and follow up with a call. MAKE SURE that you're confident during the call, and show your enthusiasm for the job. It feels bad to know that I'm writing this for a casual/menial job. But it's also worth knowing that it's the MAIN job of some people who make up the MAJORITY of the labour force. So, it being casual is subjective.

Note also that, even with all these, you may still find it hard to get a job. So, perseverance and resilience is required. But I'm sure you'll be fine sooner than later. Best wishes.

After a long read, I finally arrived here.
Seems like being away from this thread isn't advisable anymore if you want to follow the hottest gist in town; 2days away and I'd to read 3 pages. 2017 carry ginger come.

PS: I do more of the "Like" these days coz by the time I read, relevant responses have been made to pressing issues. And for some questions, I can't respond coz I don't have adequate information e.g. @BrisbaneQueen I know little or nothing about VETASSES. I'm more comfortable commenting on Engineers Australia. But the thread attracts many people with relevant information for almost all cases. It won't be long until you get a favourable reply. Some followers are still in their villages for the season I reckon.

I wouldn't think twice on this.
I'd thought you've done so already. Recently, it's rare to receive ITA on 60 points for 189.
NSW is a diversified economy, and 2yrs isn't as long as it sounds.
Go for it bro.

I'll see how today's round goes, then i guess I'll go create EOI for 190 with NSW as backup.

These Australian senators and ministers got no chill...

Provisional Visa

So now they're debating over stopping direct Permanent Residency visa, and in place of that issue a provisional visa that will eventually lead to permanent residency.

I envy those that have got theirs done and dusted. Guess it's time to buckle up for me, though I'm sure it won't happen anytime soon.

Hello,

I don't have information regarding this. Is that your first degree? Isn't MBA a masters? The PR skilled occupations are based on your first (bachelors) degree.

Anyway, I hope someone who has good information about your query will reply to it asap.

Cheers.

Correction

The lady actually had band 7 English, making her have 55 points and totaling 60 points with the 5 points from Partner Skill.

The confusion came from the fact that her husband who had band 6 was to be the principal applicant. He had hoped to receive Experience skills but EA MSA deducted most of his years. Hence, the choice of making the wife the principal applicant.

Age: 30 points
English: Band 7: 10 point
Experience: 0 point
Qualification: 15 points
Partner's point: 5 point

Total:. 60 points

cc:
@POTUSUK

bellong:

Did the person tell you how he got 55?

Assuming he has maximum points in Age..

Age: 30 points
English: Band 6. 0 point
Experience: 0 point
Qualification: 15 points
Partner's point: 5 point

Total:. 50 points

Where did he get the extra 5 points from?

TRUE
The English was band 7 from what I have been told

ideamaster:

You can look on immitracker website to have a rough idea on when you can get Nsw nomination with 55 points.

But from my little research and discussion with friends, Nsw nominates engineers without any condition like work experience or employment contract. However, for the same reason, there is a long queue of those waiting for nomination. Personally, I submitted my EOI (Mining Engineering) with 55 on 01~ Feb~ 2016 and till date, no nomination.

The bottom line is, to get Nsw nomination, you need at least 60 points excluding the state sponsorship point. That's probably what happened with the Chemical engineer guy someone mentioned. He probably had 55 points plus 5 points from partner skills. that's why he got invited faster.

CORRECTION:
Please disregard my comments about NSW. This was why I never wanted to speak about NSW as I don't have verified facts about them. Good thing was that i said "in my opinion".

I have just been informed by a friend that a Chemical Engineer with 55 points (no experience, and just band 6 English score; made up with partner skills points) got ITA and approval from NSW 2 weeks ago after being in the pool for just over 2 months.

This thus completely discards my opinion. You may wanna give it a try.

POTUSUK:
Thanks bro. But I have got 60 points (Assumming EA assesses my work experience as positive). Im only considering that route because of my peculiarities as regards PE. Better still can rewrite english to aim 20 points...when and if the need arises.

catchdwind4rmkd:
We've been advised here severally to share valid information. So, I guess I've more info on WA than NSW.

However, in my opinion, NSW is not so interested in Engineers as with IT professionals, Accountants, Civil draftsmen, etc. So, getting ITA on 55 points may be a long wait. And with the current uncertainty of the SOL, it may be risky having to wait that long. I'm sure though that if you have 65 - 70 points, you'll get NSW ITA within the next couple of rounds. I'm not sure, though, that anyone with such high points will prefer 190 to 189, unless in your case where your occupation isn't on the SOL.

Finally, if you meet all the DIBP requirements but have 55 points, you're better off registering your EOI and starting the wait early enough.
NSW requirements are quite simple.

Thanks for that explicit answer. You are far too kind. But I'd like to know why you didnt stress on NSW like you did on WA.

Guys...do we know anyone that has applied to be nominated for Petroleum Engineering NSW recently and has gotten an ITA?. I need to weigh in the statistics. Cos as it is WA is a no go area.

Your First Choice for State Nomination as a Petroleum Engineer is Western Australia.

However, due to recent political and economic issues in the region, the selection process / nomination criteria has been made tougher.

For a start, you need ALL of the following:

1. Proficient English - Minimum Band 7 no matter your total points

2. Minimum 3 years overseas or 1 year Australian Experience in Petroleum Engineering or related occupation

3. Have a contract of Full Time Employment for at least 12 months in Western Australia in the nominated (or closely related) occupation.

N/B:
The above are in addition to all the DIBP requirements for the subclass which you must meet.

New South Wales (NSW) also nominates the occupation. You may want to have a look.

POTUSUK:
@ Bellong, WestAfrcan et al, Please what are the chances of me been nominated by state or region for a Petroleum Engineering Occupation?. Since PE is no longer on the SOL list, I'm thinking state nominations but I really would like to know the chances there are.?!

IMPORTANT NOTES

1. Western Australia has been attacked recently (2 months ago) by the Department of Employment and Labour for bringing in Skilled Migrants surplus to requirement, thereby forcing most skilled migrants to undertake unskilled jobs. They're blamed for not following up or setting up a welcome and settlement plans for these migrants to easily gain employment in their skilled areas. In defense, the WA government pushed the blame to DIBP claiming that WA only nominates a small number of Skilled Migrants compared to the total who receive visa grants, most of which are 189 (I suspect this might be a reason for removing these occupations from the SOL).

2. Like other countries (UK and US being the most popular), Australians are now complaining about the negative impact of migrants to their society. Early this week, on news, members of the Australian labour society stressed on this. Many Australians also spoke on the subject. Their claims are that migrants have taken over jobs that are meant for Australians, thus leaving Australians unemployed. They supported their claims with a data which shows that while the unemployment rate in a given state was recorded as 4.5% and unchanged for 2yrs, the actual number of unemployed Australians increased from 4% to 7%. They are calling on the government to act fast

3. RUMOUR: Some students here say they're told the required points may change from 60 to 65. Currently, students in Australia need just band 7 English. But due to this rumour, most of them are now registering for an English test to improve their scores.

While these may be just headlines, they may turn out to be critical in deciding the direction of the Australian Skilled Migration in years to come. Hence, it is wise to do the needful if you really want to land Downunder or go blue...

Your question is ambiguous. Everybody has a reason for relocation, individual differs on why he/she chose to relocate, so streamlining experience into one sentence will not answer your question.

First, identify why you want to move. Some moved because they want to live in a sane environment, some for personal health, some to escape family drama and issues while majority relocated for economic prosperity.

In saying the above, your reason for relocation will determine whether the move worth it or not. However, irrespective of the reasons that initiated your relocation, you will definitely find what you are looking for in the long run.
If you are moving for economic prosperity, I wouldn't say you will get a job immediately you arrive but no matter what you will get something reasonable doing within the first six months "worst" case scenario. It is why the government advised that migrants bring enough resources for the first six months.
It doesn't mean you can't get a job immediately. South Australia has the highest rate of unemployment despite the statistics, I know people who got something doing within three weeks of arrival. No two people are the same, there are individual circumstances such as your employable skills, good resume, transferable skills, good cover letter and interview performance not forgetting networking which can land you a job faster than any other process.

In summary, understand why you are relocating so you will be able to measure if your dreams or expectations have been met. Then have a realistic expectations of what to get. The system is relatively fair to all except you are extremely ignorant. Be conversant with your work conditions and speak up against your employer if your rights are being trampled on or if you are being denied. No one has the right to bully you at work, if you are being bullied or discriminated against, you have the luxury of escalating it to the Work, Health and Safety (WHS) body in your state to mediate. This is without any repercussions against you.

For my own reasons, expectations are being met and for everyone in this country, things can only get better.

I can't help stressing on these when peeps ask such questions. I mean it can't be said any better.

Hi all, i am glad to finally make this post. The migration journey for me just ended. God has been EXTREMELY gracious to me. landing in this country with a little less than 1000 dollars in February last year, i have successfully graduated in my masters program, obtained a professional job as an environmental consultant while still on bridging visa, and achieved what i couldn't achieve in Nigeria in 5 years all within a stretch of 20 months. i am grateful to the guidance of so many people on this thread. ie Zenkel who showed me how to arrive australia through malaysia on a shoe string budget of 150k, Boss jennakry who enlightened me on opportunities i never knew existed and others who helped and encouraged me on the journey. i will settle down and summarize some important key information yet to be shared on this forum that will help enable new arrivals find a professional job, and also 476 visa holders looking for extra 5 points on what to do to dodge the english bedrock while drilling through to permanent residence. i will also like to encourage others going through a lot of pain and doubting their decisions especially those who came via school route with their partners, it can only get better, don't loose hope. stay focused, the light awaits you at the end of the tunnel.

grant: 24.10.16

Congrats boss/buddy.
Higher and higher you'll incline with little or no effort.
Best wishes.

Well, yeah you are right to an extent. However, when people ask for your CDR, it is not necessarily because they want to lift the contents. What is most important is the structure. Regardless of your engineering discipline, EA is looking for something in your reports; and that is what is outlined in your summary statements and people can gain insight from how you have structured yours to receive a positive outcome.

If anyone is naive enough to do 'copy and paste' (or paraphrase your work at best), then it's at their own peril and not yours, thank God you have scaled the hurdle.

hsim247 and others who needs samples, there are lots all over the internet for your guidance(not for copy and paste else you'd regret it)

google cdr scribd dot com

To sum up, your 'Holy Grail' on this CDR thingy is the EA's booklet

Thanks for this, but I think you missed my point. I'm not concerned about plagiarism, that's for you to decide. So, let me clarify.

There are thousands of good people following this thread who are willing to help one another, and in fact, my post clearly stated that I got help here myself.
And the main purpose of being part of this thread is to get RELEVANT HELP to your specific need. My point is, why do you need generic materials or why do you want to download tens of materials over the Internet, when you can as well OPENLY request here and get it. There's nothing bad in getting help with your work; it's called "mentorship" or "buddying" or "shadowing" depending on the case.

Talking about the MSA Booklet, i checked it myself and it's quite confusing. So, referring to CDRs that have received positive outcomes is unarguably advisable. I'm not saying, however, that you can't complete it by just referring to the booklet. But I think it gives you confidence that you're doing it right first time.

I think you need to look at other migration forums to see different cases. For instance, on expatforum.com, a civil engineer submitted his CDR and claims he followed the same formats with three friends who all got positive outcomes but his Co contacted him requesting for a number of civil engineering competencies which he failed to address in his reports. And, boy, they're really scary details. The point is, it was only then, he was not openly requesting for help from experienced civil engineers in the forum. Using generic samples are good, but not better than using samples that relates to your case.

To summarise here, I said "if you insist". So, I don't really see any cause for alarm. I've sent the CDR to many already, and I'm still answering questions to help some clarify their doubts. I'll be happy to help any in my field.

I advise you to ask openly here for relevant CDR to your occupation. Mine, however, won't help you as different competencies are required. However, if you insist, then you should contact @Malkinburg as I've clearly acknowledged/referenced him.

This thread is followed by people from different occupations. It's far more helpful to make an open request regarding your specific case than request for generic materials. Someone will definitely contact you with helpful materials on your field.

YES.

Actually, IELTS - General is the most widely accepted English Test for Migration purposes.

You're all Clear, though some states such as WA require 7 bands for some occupations such as Engineers.
