it shouldn't be a surprise of course.I own cars not car and thanks to the almighty am able to fuel them amidst the scarcity then, and even now.but that is your own thought.however you are entitled to it.the question is what have you done on your own part to alleviate the suffering?I am quiet comfortable with my standard of living, simply because I beg for more to get less.In the world, the slogan has always been "every man for himself,God for everyone".

I guess u didn't get my point because of your arrogance. Well, since you asked, I haven't done as much as you have, neither do I claim to be in your class, and that's clearly why I'm not comfortable with the fuel hike like you do. And so there's no way I can help alleviate the suffering. I agree with everything you've said but not on the insinuation that people should suffer coz few are well to do? The almighty God most of you come here to hypocritically proclaim does resist the proud and only uplifts the humble. Hear yourself, you have cars and can fuel them amidst the scarcity. Who doubt that? I said that already in my previous post that some (which you've agreed to be among) can afford. But does that justify why those that can't afford it should suffer? Again, I say rather than the well-to-do like you to support motions that impose suffering on the masses, you should agree to make those sacrifices to help others. Say the top class agree to buy these products at N250 or N600 per litre so that the lower class can buy at N86.5. My bro, the simple truth is that not all man can afford it, no matter how u try to defend it. The government hasn't done the right thing at this point, there are better alternatives.

I wonder o! Sentimental people and absurdist full Nigeria.

Oga, why not offer to donate some of your money to a broke government at least to help alleviate the suffering of the masses which will in turn help prevent further striking actions. I won't be surprised if you're one of those that now drive jeeps into a filling station and ask for N2,000 fuel while a taxi driver asks for his tank to be filled, something u did comfortably when the price was N86.5

This is one of the comments I have seen on NL. I have once bought fake fuel at N600/L at a point in time. Why should I going on strike when I am to pay N145 for original fuel.

Please note in the USA with all its refineries and no fuel scarcity, fuel is about $2/gallon which translates to about N150/L. What is the noise all about?

That you once bought fuel at N600/L doesn't justify the situation. Of course, it's clear that it was possible coz the government allowed it to. If you followed the fuel situation very closely, you'd have realised that the commodity became available once the Govt acted. I speak from PHC, once government started sending out agencies (though ineffective due to corrupt officials) to inspect the selling price and calibrations of the pumps at filling stations, the situation improved a bit. Next, government went on to announce on radio the names and locations of stations that received the commodity and should sell at official rate; more effective but marred by black maketters who buy and hoard the products at N86.5/L to sell to you at N600/L (This was when i first heared about gun boat, a car that takes in 400 - 600L of fuel before it fills up). Finally, Govt placed a ban on PMS black market and enforced it by ceasing the product and possibly arresting anyone found selling the product in jerricans. Consequently, we can now get the products almost easily and at official rate. And then what? Subsidy removal.... My point, it was all planned.... plus Govt could have bettered the situation from the start but allowed it to linger on so as to achieve their perilous goal.

As for ur comments on US, Naija isn't US. Don't forget that US was one of Nigeria's top customer and the world's no one buyer of crude. So, selling at the price is justified if at all it's true. What you should worry about is how US who wasn't initially producing the commodity (now producing shale gas) has many refineries like you claim, yet Nigeria who is a top producer doesn't have many or working refineries to boast of. I'm sure you know that to arrive at the cost of PMS, the US would have factored in the purchasing cost, logistics cost, and refining costs among others. But for Naija, it should have been producing cost rather than purchasing cost. Again, u can't compare in any way as the US have a far stronger economy and currency than Nigeria. In some countries like Australia and UK, the product is sold in gas stations for cents and pennies which should be likened to the kobo. Again, I don't know how you did ur maths but 1gal is about 4L (3.cool, so, it should be 2L for $1 (or N199) which means about N100/L if you wanna go by your analogy which I totally disagreed with.

We know Nigeria is corrupt as a nation, but we should learn to speak for a better Nigeria in any little way we can. In all these, it's the common man that's impacted greatly. If you're working with Shell, Chevron, Total, Eni etc or Halliburton, Schlumberger, Baker, etc or you're in the top political class or a successful business man, then I agree you can accommodate the situation coz you're paid right, besides most of them comfortably bought the product at N250 or N600/L when the common man had to park his vehicle (hence the scanty roads). But my dear, u can't be earning minimum wage or better still even N100k/month (which is well above the avarage monthly income of the common man) and expect them to welcome the hike in fuel price with a smiling face unless you want them to spend all their earnings on transportation and owe debts to feed.

To be clear, if subsidy actually exists, it's best removing it but that should be after relevant measures have been put in place. Eg Note that PMS should actually sell far below N50/L in Nigeria if all is working fine like in the US. So, FG can actually make our existing refineries functional and use that to support the effect of subsidy to maintain sales at N86.5 or less while they work on other ways of making the situation better. Also, since the higher class like you are comfortable with the increase and willing to sacrifice or suffer for the betterment of the nation as u claimed, then why don't we copy developed nations by increasing the tax rate for the higher class tremendously over the lower class. Surely if tax revenues are well gathered, it can surely make up for subsidy. Whatever affects the common man is fine, but whatever affects the higher class isn't. The president in his first good cause in office proposed salary reductions for senators and minister et al; did that succeed? What about the furniture and travel allowances that should be reduced? Shebi those were news and subjects worth debating in the house? But since most of them don't buy fuel nor pay for electricity since these are covered by their allowances and benefits, they didn't even spend time to debate or fight over it, they just imposed it on us. If you don't know, most top class citizens either drive into a designated gas station to fill up their tanks or are reimbursed by submitting receipts of purchase/payment of bills which they even inflate.

Simply, Naija is corrupt!!!

If well policed and run properly the subsidy will not enrich anyone more than the deregulation will, because their profit margins will remain the same. But I maintain that people are being enriched more now.

The landing cost of PMS is somewhere between 110 and 120 how th did they come up with 145 as their magic number? The profit margins have drastically increased since they started selling at 145. And please not that the profit is not going to the stations its going to those same marketers that we are allegedly fighting against. Before their profit was in the N3-5 range per liter now it's close to N20

The land cost of diesel is higher than PMS but yet diesel is sold for cheaper.

living it as in what? am i lying? tell us if u have see the bus, becos i have be looking for the sure-p bus, no hope of sighting anyone.

Dude pls stop this sh*t about bus coz it's irritating me. I've followed this thread and learned a lot but your repeated comments on this issue has forced me to reply.
From the way you respond, I'd expect you to know that those buses were rolled out to alleviate the hardship from subsidy removal or fuel hike at the time. It's thus clear that following the U-turn in subsidy removal, there should be a corresponding U-turn in the availability of those buses. In fact, we didn't even buy PMS at the proposed N141 as an official rate, it was a mere proposal which was opposed strongly nationwide. So, I don't see why you still expected to see these buses around. They're definitely gone with the subsidy reinstatement which didn't even last up to 3 months.

Don't get me wrong, you may have better facts to support your argument but let's drop that issue as it's not important atm. I'm sure everyone knows the hardship the hike in fuel price will cause. In fact, transporters have speedily responded by increasing the cost per drop (fare). As an informed person who wishes good for the country, I can't oppose subsidy removal (that's if it actually exists considering the fact that the president himself said it doesn't). My worries, and yours, should be what do we expect from our leaders following this hardship? I supported subsidy removal during Jonathan's reign with the hope that our leaders will keep their promise about the subsidy reinvestment plans, and my main interest was in the rehabilitation of existing refineries and the construction of new ones. I'm sure, you agree with me that the past Govt didn't keep that promise, they deceived us and they failed us. They came up with defences like they're still paying part-subsidy and that hindered their success, but clearly we all know there was about N30 increase which was used for the scam sure-P and the usual generic road construction, something that's typical of every Govt. Yes, Sure-P scam, coz what youths need are jobs, what's a stipend when you can earn a salary? It's clear that the rehabilitation and construction of refineries would have been more beneficial than whatever the funds accrued from the extra N30 was used for; not only will it create more jobs, but also, it will in near future completely remove the subsidy and even generate more revenue from exports.

That said, I'm afraid I can't be fooled again. I find it hard to believe even the present government who hasn't even kept any of her promises to the citizens that brought her to power. Without being harsh and picky, I'll not state some of the promises that I can defend economically. But promises such as giving out allowances to unemployed graduates can competently score down the promise of providing palliatives to the extremely poor following the hike in fuel price. Again, the fact that this government hasn't been responsible or accountable is really frightening to me to consider trusting her to walk the talk. By that I meant, we've heard of so many probes, arrests and recovered funds, but no conclusions have been reached on these cases neither have details of recovered funds been released besides the figures. At least tell the nation who these funds were recovered from, how and where. But not really necessary to the current issue. And, yes, many forumites were right to say FG shouldn't expect justice to be respected when the president himself publicly supported going against the law in the cases of Dasuki and Nnamdi for reasons best known to him. But for a better Nigeria, justice must be upheld and rule of law must stand.

I know it'll be hard for a few to understand my point, and few will understand but try to come up with counter opinions just to win the argument, but I'm sure many will understand that we can't trust this Govt judging from current trends as they have not been accountable or responsible in anyway. I still wonder why this government can't just be genuine and honest, how can we believe these lies when they claimed about a year ago that subsidy doesn't exist? And I believe them coz I took a thorough look at a data showing the changes in the commodity from onset, and friends, it's clear that the cost of PMS has been increasing since 1960 from about 20k to N141, so I find it hard to identify where and when it was subsidised, but I can't speak of what I don't know as there may be some economic analysis that figures or data cannot tell. In my layman's opinion though, I feel every Govt that wants to generate quick fund, takes advantage of the Nigerian population as a huge, solid, and functional market to sell the product at an increased price knowing full well that over 100m of an estimated 180m populace will participate favourably in the market.

Just to be clear, APC or PDP, Buhari or GEJ, FG or NLC, those ain't my wahala; I'll rather worry myself on how I too can be the President of Nigeria as experience is the best teacher. So, at least people can be arguing about me here, lol. If u expect me to go and risk my life for greedy leaders (FG or NLC), then you've been misled. I'm calm and calculating my next move on how to be the Next jor smiley

Does someone else notice the link shell provided for the online assessment is unclickable? Am I the only one experiencing this problem?

It's from your end; you should know that already coz a lot of people have already completed the test.
My best guess will be your internet security disabling links in your email to prevent you from clicking harmful links embedded within emails.

ADVICE:
1. Try using another browser or PC
2. Try opening your mail as mobile or web view
3. Change your mail settings to basic or full view
4. Search through google for instructions on how to enable links in your mail.
5. Copy the link and paste in your address bar (This should be your last option; it's best clicking on the link to avoid broken link which may leave out your candidate tracking information which is required to link your test score to your application)

Best Wishes

What are you guys still saying here. Shell has resolved the issue since afternoon, application deadline has been extended further by a week, and lots of peeps have already applied with the right qualifications.

Also, you can reapply with the same email as the one rejected during the last application stage. The one year restriction applies only when you have completed an application and written an online test while a 3yrs restriction holds for attending an assessment center.

Link is out, but I guess it will be temporary.
Some errors were noticed with the site as applicants with 2.1 were screened out while those with 2.2 progressed through the application. This was brought to the attention of the shell careers team some disturbed, desperate and determined applicants ... hahaaa... These applicants couldn't risk applying as 2.2; you'll definitely be bounced during the profile review stage should you be successful with the online tests. So, the best bet was to bring it to their notice. I guess this must have caused the removal of the application links (Just my guess).
I hope it is true though. So, hopefully the application should be back on with extended deadline.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: British American Tobacco Nigeria(BATN)- Entry Level Management Trainee Positions by catchdwind4rmkd(m): 6:18pm On May 18, 2015
Very funny how people choose the easy way out...
Did the BAT team tell you they sent you regret because of your age?
Did they also tell you they wanted to recruit every qualified Nigerian graduate?

Who is doubting your competency? At least the regret mail they sent acknowledged that you were qualified but they found more suitable candidates.
If I'm to judge from the many comments I have read, then I'll conclude that everyone that wrote the test made 100%. If so, then BAT should take everyone?
I mean, none of you even gave room for error. No one even thought of the fact that you must have erred somewhere that you need to identify now and correct so that you don't repeat the same error?

We should always learn from every "regret", "disappointment", "failure" or something similar. No matter how smart you think you're, there's the psychological and physical effect on every activity. A little error, distraction, or oversight is all it takes. Even the great scientists suffered from this, else their works won't be updated or revised.

Who knows if you got 95% and since you all claimed that the test was cheap, then a lot of people must have made 100%. Thus your claims are valid.
However, that the test was not timed doesn't mean the time was not essential. I'm sure you noticed that at the end of the test, the total time spent was displayed. This can be used also to screen. Obviously spending more time may suggest that you got help somewhere, or maybe you're slow at getting things done even though you have the required skills. (Just my view)

That said, here is my view on this:
Outside Nigeria, your response to every question during the application matters. I got several rejections and kept blaming it on "work permit". Once I changed my views, I accepted I must have gone wrong somewhere, and I updated my style accordingly. Now rejection is not a norm.

If you read your mails from BAT, you'll notice that your application has not been reviewed. All you've been doing were automated. They only look at your application after you successfully complete the pre-screening exercises.
So, I agree with the fact that you scored best in the test. But that has only earned you the opportunity for your application to be reviewed.

Now, BAT team have looked at your applications.
So, let's start all over:
Why do you want to work for BAT?
Why do you choose the role you applied for? Why do you think you're the ideal candidate?
What skills do you have that suits the role?
Give instance of a time when you bla bla bla....
You know the rest....

So, what do you think?
You still think you answered those questions better than every other applicant?

Trust me, you need to try competing in the international job market. I mean, you will have to spend days just to fill an application. Even your CV/Resume can disqualify you out there. I'll say, we're really lucky to be competing in Nigeria where most of the HR staff are lackadaisical such that they don't review applications and so you can see dragnet organizing test for 50,000 candidates and Chevron/Mobil conducting skills test for over 1000 candidates, when they only need 5 or even 1 person(s). Out here, the applicants must have been reduced to hundreds even before the test stage if it has to be hand written.

My advice, while we know our strengths and also know we're very qualified; we must review opportunities and re-strategise for future opportunities. It's very simple: ALL OF US ARE QUALIFIED, BUT FEW HAVE SHOWN EXCEPTIONAL QUALITIES THAT ATTRACTED THEM; ARE YOU AMONG THE FEW?

I wish you all success in your future endeavors.

For all of you making hell of a NOISE here about NOTORE salary; before you start getting discouraged by people who chew vocabulary and grammar, prepare hard and get the offer, then you can confirm what the pay is. Who says you can't reject the offer if you don't like it? You don't lose anything in going through the process, rather you gain the experience that could be applied in other recruitment process.

That said, NOTORE is a big coy, formerly NAFCON if I'm right. Situated @ Onne in R/S and currently run by Asians. The fact is that like all other multinational companies, there are two groups of employees, viz:
1. Contract
2. Staff

I think you should know my point already.
As a staff of NOTORE, you earn really good, so the suggested 180k and 250k are not out of place.
However, a contract employee earns less with little or no benefits. So, the "that fella needs to have his cranium checked" is also valid depending on the group the employee fall into.

I'm sure that the recruitment being discussed here is for a "staff" or "direct" employee status. Hence, added benefits are expected.

My elder bruv worked with them as a CONTRACT employee, and my cousin is working with them as a STAFF. And certainly there is a difference in their status. But trust me, both managed a good life, and the staff is doing really good.

I stopped asking for salary as a guide to choosing employer when someone almost discouraged me from joining HES because he said they pay less than 100kpm. Certainly true but relative to the surveyed group. It was funny coz then I earned far more working for an indigenous coy under the same role. A staff of HES can tell you the difference.... While a contract employee of the same coy can complain about it.

People have come on threads and discussed salaries, but never got the offers.
Go and get your offer... Think of the pay afterwards... Reject or accept it if you wish...

Sorry guys, the programme is not for Nigerians.

It's a scheme that's meant to expose international graduates to global operations.

So, just as Nigerians are sent to Paris and other Total operating countries, graduates from selected countries will be coming to gain experience in Nigeria. I think there are five (5) eligible countries in the list, of which Nigeria is not one.

Take your time to go through the eligibility area, and you'll be clear on it.

The wait is still on...

@Greatdave: we pray you eventually get something good out of ur tries.
@Napolitano14: What's the source of your news? They've been sending us mail to provide details so they can process it. When did u fill urs online coz I jst did mine today? I tried calling PTDF but they missed all 6 tries. So, I just had to fill in the form with Drilling and Well Engineering which was my course of choice and the one that I sent to them, but not the course I was awarded the scholarship. The last time I called, they said they would contact me if they have a concern with my admission offer, so since they didn't I assume they're ok with it. I won't like to be left out when others are processing their Visas during the induction, so I had to fill in mine. I really pray to God that they send the proof letter to the school.
@Proteus1: No news bro. We'll all eventually meet

greatdave: There's gotta be a way PTDF can reslove this english language requirement dem Unis be asking for. Its Nigeria! We were colonized by the UK! We're part of the Commonwealth for Pete's sake!! angry

DON'T TELL ME U DIDN'T DO AS ADVISED HERE EARLIER!
IF U CAN FIND A WAY TO RESOLVE IT, HOW & WHY WILL PTDF DO SAME?
I PRAY & HOPE PTDF FINDS A WAY TO RESOLVE IT LIKE YOU SAID.
BUT I'LL BE MORE GLAD TO HEAR THAT YOU TRIED TO REGISTER FOR IELTS OR TOEFL, AND U ALSO TRIED TO APPLY TO OTHER SCHOOLS TO SEE IF ONE CAN OFFER YOU A GOOD COURSE WITH UR AVAILABLE CREDENTIALS.
REMEMBER THAT ENGLISH LANGUAGE WAS A REQUIREMENT DURING THE PTDF APPLICATION PROCESS, AND THEY ALSO SUGGESTED TOELF & IELTS FOR THOSE WHO COULDN'T MEET THE ENGLISH REQUIREMENT.

SO, I THINK IT'S NOT WISE TO WAIT ON PTDF UNLESS YOU INTEND TO DEFER THE SCHOLARSHIP TO NEXT YEAR WHEN YOU MUST HAVE GOTTEN YOUR TOEFL. I KNOW IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT, COZ THE LIST WAS RELEASED LATE, BUT YOU SHOULD PUT NIN YOUR BEST COZ THE EARLIER THE BETTER.

Their major concern is the schools, not the courses. Once u have ur offer from one of the schools listed, u're in business!

Are you sure?
That's really good news!
Well, I'll give call tomorrow coz the mail didn't also confirm that we should arrive at the venue of the 10th as earlier advised.
Gotto be clear on this.
