Anyone also invited for the test in port Harcourt on Saturday? |
public education is already free in edo state. Unless they'll enrol him in a highbrow school, I don't see any difference the scholarship makes. |
Today in our coverage of the ongoing war between Man and Raccoon, an 81-year-old man in Connecticut was sitting in his yard waiting to surprise an invading raccoon with his rifle when apparently he sneezed, fell off his chair, and shot himself in the shin. Presumably the raccoon then laughed maniacally and scampered away. The raccoon had been scratching up the door to James Pace Sr.’s house for quite a while, which I imagine would tick anybody off. Pace, however, was incensed enough to stake out the area for days and see if he couldn’t blast the little guy into oblivion using his own .22 caliber rifle. Just goes to show that when you’re 81, you really stop giving a crap about what people think about you, animal welfare activists included. After the incident, Pace’s son took him to be treated at the Yale-New Haven Hospital for his non-life threatening injury, and he was released soon after with no complications. You know, except for the profound embarrassment of shooting yourself in the leg because of a sneeze. Might we suggest tossing the raccoon instead next time? www.geekosystem.com/raccoon-sneeze-shoot/ |
fellowbeing: The vehicles presented to the monarchs included 101 cars, 22 jeeps and one Hilux truck.Don't mean to be pedantic, but our reporters ought to know the difference between Jeep and SUV. |
thumbs up, science. First steps to actualise telepathy. Proudly #HomoSapiens |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNRDc714W5I&feature=youtube_gdata_player University of Washington researchers have performed what they believe is the first noninvasive human-to- human brain interface , with one researcher able to send a brain signal via the Internet to control the hand motions of a fellow researcher. University of Washington researcher Rajesh Rao, left, plays a computer game with his mind. Across campus, researcher Andrea Stocco, right, wears a magnetic stimulation coil over the left motor cortex region of his brain. Stocco’s right index finger moved involuntarily to hit the “fire” button as part of the first human brain-to-brain interface demonstration. Using electrical brain recordings and a form of magnetic stimulation, Rajesh Rao sent a brain signal to Andrea Stocco on the other side of the UW campus, causing Stocco’s finger to move on a keyboard. While researchers at Duke University have demonstrated brain-to-brain communication between two rats, and Harvard researchers have demonstrated it between a human and a rat, Rao and Stocco believe this is the first demonstration of human- to-human brain interfacing. “The Internet was a way to connect computers, and now it can be a way to connect brains,” Stocco said. “We want to take the knowledge of a brain and transmit it directly from brain to brain.” The researchers captured the full demonstration on video recorded in both labs. The following version has been edited for length. This video and high-resolution photos also are available on the research website. On Aug. 12, Rao sat in his lab wearing a cap with electrodes hooked up to an electroencephalography machine, which reads electrical activity in the brain. Stocco was in his lab across campus wearing a purple swim cap marked with the stimulation site for the transcranial magnetic stimulation coil that was placed directly over his left motor cortex, which controls hand movement. The team had a Skype connection set up so the two labs could coordinate, though neither Rao nor Stocco could see the Skype screens. Rao looked at a computer screen and played a simple video game with his mind. When he was supposed to fire a cannon at a target, he imagined moving his right hand (being careful not to actually move his hand), causing a cursor to hit the “fire” button. Almost instantaneously, Stocco, who wore noise-canceling earbuds and wasn’t looking at a computer screen, involuntarily moved his right index finger to push the space bar on the keyboard in front of him, as if firing the cannon. Stocco compared the feeling of his hand moving involuntarily to that of a nervous tic. “It was both exciting and eerie to watch an imagined action from my brain get translated into actual action by another brain,” Rao said. “This was basically a one-way flow of information from my brain to his. The next step is having a more equitable two-way conversation directly between the two brains.” At first blush, this breakthrough brings to mind all kinds of science fiction scenarios. Stocco jokingly referred to it as a “Vulcan mind meld.” But Rao cautioned this technology only reads certain kinds of simple brain signals, not a person’s thoughts. And it doesn’t give anyone the ability to control your actions against your will. www.washington.edu/news/2013/08/27/researcher-controls-colleagues-motions-in-1st-human-brain-to-brain-interface/ |
Tinyemeka: Does it mean that no nairalander lives below $2 a day?$2 a day is barely enough for internet in a month. Nairaland folks are above that. |

Flexskillz: Let's say it does happen, alright. But why clean on a sunday morning before service? Was it part of what was intended for the sunday sermon??Well, whatever he was doing before the sermon was his personal choice. Does cleaning a gun have any specific right time? All these questions must have been asked before the Diocese and the authorities can utter such statement. They must have known that he owned a gun and was kinda fond of it. In furtherance of my earlier post, if the gun had hit my mum fatally, many people wouldn't have believed it was an error. Theories of murder and "blood money" would have popped up from all angles. Thank God it didn't happen. It's not everything that concerns the Catholic church that is based on conspiracy. |
striktlymi: Hmmmm...My dad was cleaning his pump action gun circa 2001. Not knowing there was a cartridge left in the chamber. It blew off, hitting the lintel on top of the bathroom door missing my mum and baby sis by the whiskers. It happens. |
muzeze77: Actually Whizkid is correct grammatically, "after erroneously typing ‘i have an hangover’ ". I have a/an [insert adjective here] hangover is correct, you can either use a or an. Normally because hangover starts with H, people expect you to use a, but because when you pronounce it, the H is silent, then you are still correct even if you use 'an'Dude, the "H" ain't silent. |
Wetin be the fan name sef? |
lorretta u: Most people here lack basic understanding of biology.hence some of the funny comments I'm reading here.first thing to remember is that the cell is a living unit in itself and all of them make up the organism.so if the doctor can find a way to keep these individual units of life viable until the engine room(heart) is re-activated,what's so #end time signs# about that? Or playing God(worisdat?).we should try thinking outside the box sometimes or at least if we can't,we can encourage those who do.As in, I tire for my fellow Nigerians. They believe any matter concerning life or death should be left for "GOD". But if they're in health crisis they'll be begging those same scientists playing God to save them. |
FOLYKAZE: Scientist, doctors and politicians are now becomming samething. Is this dude calling on public attention or what? You clearly didn't read the article. People have been getting "revived" from "clinical" death through electrical defibrillation. He's trying to prove a new method of his can work as well. He's definitely talking about death by cardiac arrest and probably by hypothermia. And the 24 hours claim will be achievable in a few decades with improvement in research. |
The Writer: [size=19pt]Correct, but unfortunately it appears majority of nairaland readership only understand it to be an act of "playing God" by "oyibo" and is therefore the sign of the "end times" which makes them seem utterly stupid. Little wonder that British guy said there are too many "d1ck heads" in this country. |
otokx: ALUU and UNIPORT have been having 18 hours of light daily for the past 2 days. GEJ is working.Guy, you never graduate from there since?? |
Rossikk: Thank you. So because we have not turned to Japan or Germany, it means we've made no progress? For your information on many things you mentioned we have improved, such as infant mortality rates, poverty rates, and even access to clean drinking water. Evidence:What rails?? Have we embarked on any major rail project since after independence? Do we have the most basic of subway or high speed rail lines? |
Pukkah: Why would a Minister talk in such a general and nebulous terms like this on a subject that's this important. In other words,,he pulled the figures out of his a$s... |
seun bridget: Goin 2 church wt tablet instead of bible,?? Is one of d sign of d end time of d world. am nt sayn u havn tablet is wrong o. Jesus use tablet when HIM dey d world??He used a scroll to read verses while at the synagogue. They hadn't invented paper and printing press yet. using your logic, reading the Bible from paper book is a sign of end time as well. I dey laugh you. |
Rochas don eff up..... He'll regret this. |

pekelepekele: @OP I believe the pastor is 100% right . If you check the bible very well you will notice that their was only two Saul mentioned in the bible .Kudos on your intellectual myopia. I "admire" that. |
vislabraye: This lOoks like the result of genetic engineering. It's a freak of nature... Birth defects have been happening from time immemorial, and always will. |
Is abortion even legal as to be openly admitting that in a court of law? |
SimonAndal:Change your moniker to SimonAnal... And bend over. |
ACM10: Shooting up the clouds won'tYeah, I'm aware of (inefficient) cloud-seeding methods. Thought you were referring to some magicians holding back the rain during the Olympics. |
soul_glo: This is sad. We should not forget though that the man had a drug habit. The child got so scared from the assault she would get from her mother so she lied. Maybe if dad was dependable and available for his children the girl would not have felt so threatened by her mother. I don't blame the child at all. The parents are to blame here. Dad set a bad example for the whole family. Mother was no better. The child is the real victim here. He should forgive himself first for failing his children before he can really forgive anyone else. I wish the whole family wellYeah, right... It's his fault he was set up... |
ACM10: I disagree. Chinese did it during the Beijing Olympics.Reliable link, or you pulled it outta your ass. |
domcarez: thanks bro for that wonderful question, no offence to the OP but undergraduates and graduates of the so called private universities always think high of themselves above their contemporaries in state or federal universities probably because they paid exorbitant fees to get admission withou necessarily going through the rigors of writing jamb, post ume and enduring the nonchalant attitude of some staffs of govt schools. Bottom line is, u guys have not tasted the bitter side of university life which is occassioned by constant struggle for survival resulting to a complete individual. Private Universities are business establishments, take it or leave it.What has this gotta do with the question he asked. As long as the law course in the private uni was accredited by the NUC, he has every right to complain if he hasn't been admitted in law school. Passing through stress in our inefficient public universities actually does more harm than good. I attended a federal uni as well, but I don't regard one who attended a private uni as an idiot as you just did. on a final note, ALL Nigerian public universities produce sub-standard graduates. Prove me wrong. Our system is bleeped and all you can do is beat your chest on how inefficiencies and frustrations in schools make one a "complete" individual? a psychologically beat-down half-baked graduate is a "complete" individual? No make me laugh. |
