CrimeMan Goes "Dracula" On His Daughter by ceejayluv(op): 3:56pm On Oct 11, 2013
SYDNEY (AFP) – A Papua New Guinea
man described as a vampire has been
arrested after allegedly murdering his
young daughter by biting her neck,
eating her flesh and drinking her
blood, a report said Friday.
Police called the grisly incident that
occurred on Wednesday at a
settlement near Lae “an act of
cannibalism”.
The PNG Post Courier cited local
councillor John Kenny, who was one
of the first on the scene, as saying the
three-year-old child and her mother
were visiting the father when he
grabbed the girl and ran off into
nearby bushes.
Kenny said the man allegedly held the
toddler close to him, bit deep into her
neck, ate the flesh and sucked her
blood.
Two boys who were climbing a
coconut tree nearby saw him and ran
quickly to raise the alarm.
“He was just laughing at the boys and
continued eating the flesh and sucking
the blood,” Kenny told the
newspaper.
“The boys were scared and ran
quickly to alert the people.”
When people arrived to investigate the
man reportedly dumped the body in
the bushes and ran away before
being caught and turned over to
police.
PNG is a sprawling nation where black
magic, sorcery and cannibalism
sometimes occur.
Last year police arrested dozens of
people linked to an alleged cannibal
cult accused of killing at least seven
people, eating their brains raw and
making soup from their joysticks.
There have been several other recent
cases linked to cults, witchcraft and
cannibalism, with a man in 2011
reportedly found eating his
screaming, newborn son during a
sorcery initiation ceremony.

They need exposure to state of the art tech cos, truth be told, home made rockets are so 1930's tech (in advanced climes).
kudos to them.

kinharold: Please, let me ask; I pray I get a good answer cos I really don't understand it myself.

Accident deaths are highly regrettable but sometimes i wonder why there is so much fuss about plane crash and deaths?, NASS will probe it, the president will be involved, Airline is banded, sometimes minister and some high office holders loose their job. Deaths in road accidents in a year is in hundreds and sometimes in thousands. In about the same week of the Associated Airline crash that killed about 13 persons, the boat accidents on the River Niger killed scores of persons including 29 women but nothing much was head about it after that day.

Hope it is not because air passengers/victims are most-likely of the rich class.

Please, I just need explanations.
That's exactly what I highlighted in an earlier post. Don't be surprised some people getting overly sentimental about plane crashes are statisticians who don't even consider that one is far more likely to die on their way to the airport than on the plane itself.

jude33084: Comparing car accident to a plane crash? angry

Our youths are in big trouble angry
Why won't they be compared? Car accidents kill thousands of Nigerians yearly. For the fact that plane crashes are more dramatic and expensive disasters than road accidents doesn't mean we should overlook the bigger killer of the two.
Road accidents claim more lives in a week than what plane mishaps claim in two years or more.

Science/TechnologyTeenagers Launch Locally-made Rocket In Imo, Causing Confusion by ceejayluv(op): 6:59am On Oct 09, 2013
Two pupils of the Federal Government College, Okigwe, Imo State have caused a stir in Umuchime Ubahu community in Okigwe Local Government, with the launch of a “rocket” they built from local materials.

The rocket, which was supposed to travel five kilometres, went further than programmed and landed in a residential area, causing a stampede.

The residents of the house where the rocket landed, alerted the police, thinking it was a bomb.

Commissioner of Police Muhammad Musa Katsina, however, dispelled fears of terrorism, saying the “amateur scientists”, who launched the home-made rocket, did not intend any harm.

Katsina, however, urged the residents to remain security-conscious and report suspicious movements to the police.

The police boss, who briefed reporters yesterday, said there was a bomb scare in the community when the two science students launched their rocket.

He said police investigation showed that there was no criminal intent, adding that it was a case of innovation and adventure.

“There was no terrorism motive in the act. We enjoin people to go about their activities without fear,” Katsina said.

He went on: “The manufacturers of this rocket are not terrorists, they are rather talented science pupils keen on developing their scientific skills. They should be encouraged.

“The rocket has been deactivated and is safe. The components as discovered by the Police Bomb Disposal Unit do not contain any radioactive or toxic element.

“Because the boys intended no harm, no punitive measures will be taken. I will rather recommend that they be encouraged so that they can achieve greater things.”

The teenage scientists asked for Federal Government’s sponsorship to enable them improve on their skills.

They said they built the rocket as part of a school exercise, which earned them a second position in a competition.

They said they were inspired to launch the rocket when they heard of the National Space Development Agency’s plan to launch a climate-monitoring satellite into space next year.

Actually Accidents DO happen. Trains derail, spaceships explode, ships sink.
if any unforeseen accident is the fault of the minister, then why haven't people clamoured for the resignation of the minister of transportation when thousands of people die yearly on roads and waterways?
Let's not get too emotional. The ministry and regulatory bodies can only ensure safety compliance but cannot erase the occurrence of mishaps totally. They're called "accidents" for a reason. The insurance companies will handle that.

Femmyfamous4u: Let the truth be told, the constant power supply you are enjoying has nothing to do with the FG. Amaechi on the other hand should be the one receiving the praise for So many PPP power plants projects in the state. Abia state govt as well just signed $1 billion contract for the same purpose and Lagos as well is to reach self-sufficiency by nextyear. So, not FG, it's rather the governor.
Yeah, true. But don't forget this present administration gave states the autonomy to generate and utilise power without sending it to the national grid. I think the FG deserves some kudos in that aspect and also for creating enabling environments for private investment.

PoliticsRe: ASUU Demanded For N3tn, Not N130bn by ceejayluv(m): 8:51am On Oct 03, 2013
McLuhan: Fellow Nigerians, let's use our brains for once. The amount being bandied around represents the estimated cost of overhauling all the federal and state universities in Nigeria over a four-year period. This includes infrastructural costs such as the construction and equipping of libraries, laboratories, ultra-modern lecture theatres, studios, research facilities, simulators, offices, etc. It would also take care of take-off grants, research grants, conference funding, staff development, international collaboration, affiliation and liaison, personnel-related costs, and other overhead and capital appropriations in ALL government-owned universities in Nigeria.

Note that this was what government agreed to do, having cognisance of the decrepitude of our universities. This intervention was to be carried out in stages beginning with a four-year initial period. But in its customary tardiness and tepidity, government simply forgot about its written commitments and never implemented them.

Note too that the quoted amount is less than the annual budget of Harvard University alone. Note also that even a smaller country such as Ghana spends much more money per capita on tertiary education. And yet government wants us to believe that Nigeria is soon becoming one of the 20 most developed countries of the world. And yet we want our universities to be listed among the best in the world.

Consider too that government spent more than 3 trillion naira to bail out private banks - note, PRIVATE banks - during the banking sector crisis. Consider also that President Jonathan unilaterally extended an unsolicited financial largesse to Nollywood. Is it too much, then, to ask government to bail out ITS OWN universities - universities which government itself has admitted neglecting for a long time and which have become a national embarrassment and a laughing stock in global academic circles?

Let no one deceive us that government cannot afford it. It certainly can! Is this not the same country where a petroleum minister's children own private jets? Haven't we seen the pictures on the Internet? Is this not the same country that pays its Senate President more than 88 million naira monthly, as reported by The Punch? Is this not the same country where the President receives an annual feeding allowance of roughly a billion naira? Does Nigeria not boast the most expensive national legislature in the entire world? Are many of our governors not richer than some African countries? Do I need to mention names? Have we asked one of our most pugnacious governors in the South-South how much his private refinery is worth?

Let's stop blackmailing these lecturers. They are not the cause of Nigeria's downfall; neither are they the bane of our university system. Our corrupt politicians are, and until we hold them to account, Nigeria will still be the butt of coarse jokes all over the civilised world.
Spot-on.. Whoever feels education is expensive should wallow in ignorance.
