Awesome.. I always said that science is gradually catching up with "spirituality".. Anything that was allegedly possible by sorcery will one day be mimicked scientifically. From flying to teleporting... One day. |

That's fukcing ridiculous.... |
freecocoa: So laws are now being made in this country based on religious grounds?I remember a certain same sex marriage (prohibition) Bill was passed on strictly religious and cultural grounds... Should we then lift the ban on gay marriage? |
LeoG: Answer to your question------->160million. Correct me if I'm wrong. Then how could we possibly get 150 million underage voters from the north as you posted earlier? Fact is that even if that subsection is deleted, it doesn't address the issue of marriageaBle age in the country. And besides, get it into your thick skull that the subsection has nothing to do with voting. The voting age has been clarified in another relevant section. Why didn't you claim that it implies that underage girls can contest for elections na? I'm afraid the senate were right this time, sorry. |
Profidada: British with mediocrity. When will these people stop this madness of royalty? I pity these people sha. A royal prince is born, and so wetin concern me?Pity them? For being far wealthier than we are? Or for conserving millenial-old traditions? State 5 things that are wrong with the British royalty... |
ola_pluto: Now the dust is settling, the gullibility of Nigerians who do not bother to read is becoming glaring. Has Stella Damascus taken her show of shame off YouTube? I was well insulted on this nairaland for pointing out the obvious misunderstandings. Unfortunately some people are now trying to add meaning to denunciation of citizenship as meaning approval to vote.I dey laugh them... Especially Stella. |
greatgod2012: At least, another muslim man has registered his dipleasure in that useless bill......im counting. What "Bill" exactly ? |
cecegorz: I was so appalled at the so called Twitter warriors (El Rufai, Omojuwa, etc)with their bandwagon trending with #childnotbride because i saw clearly that these people had issues with comprehension of the issue on ground.I tire ooo... And people are still busy screaming paedophiles!! Some are even taking it to mean the under 18 married women can now vote. BULLSHIT... |
paschalomenihu: OUR SENATORS HAS NO WORK.ISSUE SUCH AS VOTING FOR AN UNDER AGE GIRL IS NOT OUR PROBLEM IN NIJA. ejim blessing: SAY NO TO CHILD MARRIAGE IN NIGERIA: Paedophiles Senators, If She's TOO YOUNG to vote during your ELECTION, then she's too young to stand your ERECTI*N. IF YOU ARE NOT IN SUPPORT OF CHILD MARRIAGE, PLEASE SPREAD THIS MESSAGE AND CONDEMN IN TOTAL TO PROTECT THE YOUNG NIGERIAN GIRL CHILD.yawns... stale quote.... go and expunge sharia law from the constitution... good luck with that.. |
Okiki_Oluwa: See the as them they contradict themselves.nobody talked about voting there. no go add your own join.... |
Horus:she spat venom, whoa..... but I doubt she understood the core issue on ground. in my opinion, she saw headlines and heard one or two hearsays and ran straight to youtube. she keeps talking of a bill encouraging child marriage. pls anyone heard of such bill? |
Fitzy4real: Of course, just quote 1 or 2 sections of d constitution and everything will be alright, paedophilia is justified. What u agreed d@ is wrong is now automatically alright. I figure d@ u just saw dose sections of d law d@ u quoted in an article somwhr and decided 2 copy and paste it on nairaland so as 2 feel smart. Well, I hav read d@ section of d constitution extensively as well. I read it b4 I made any comment. Law is all about context, it has nw been accepted in d context of renunciation of citizenship. It won't be long b4 dey'll start pushing 4 it in d context of marriage which is exactly what Mr. Yerima wz interested in. If you have read his defence, u'd know w@ I'm talking abt.Yerima might have had his personal agenda. but there is nothing that he said that is not backed up in the constitution. In order to totally stop under age marriage, then the sharia law has to be expunged from the constitution. good luck with that! |

DICKtator: Humanoids and pixs shaaa!!. I mean would you be snapping such if it was your relative? No wonder that cameraman/journalist was aluuzied when he wanted to snap pix of corpses of those that died in the ill-fated Dana crash at LASUTH!!!Can't see any gory image up there... |

dady12: what is the diff betweenAnswer candidly, was the vote on the legalisation of child marriage? It only tangentially touched the issue of an under-18 girl who for some reasons, is legally married. and whether you like it or not, they'll always be exceptions which may allow an under 18 to marry legitimately. Pregnancy and age of the intending spouse are major factors. of course I don't support full grown ageing adults to pick up 13 year old girls as brides. But I also don't support attacking some legislators without dissecting the section and clause thoroughly. most people just heard that a Bill to legalise child marriage was passed which obviously wasn't true. Stella Damascus was busy ranting without even having a clue of what actually transpired in the house. |
toluene12: nice try, but u remain wrong. In the case of a pregnant 16-year old girl , that wishes to marry her 17-year old boy that impregnated her. With family consent and all, shouldn't she be allowed to marry Especially if she wishes not to bear an illegitimate child? There has to be exceptions in any law. That 18 year benchmark may not always be tenable especially for girls. |
I don't think this dude even knows what he's talking about... what "immoral" amendment was done?? The vote was NOT on legalisation of child marriage, but granting of a certain privilege to already married but under-18 girls. under-18 teens all over the World are allowed to marry under stringent conditions... (including being pregnant for a fellow minor who she intends to marry and parental consent)..... |
gabmid: Please if I may ask..... his he sure he was not sleeping in the house? cos he sld not talk as if his talkin to fools cos we are not.Well, I just hope you understand what actually happened. |
MuyiGL: Who is this man's PR that can't write proper English?dude, the issue of age of marriage is entirely different. underage marriage is only possible if the law permits it. In many climes, already pregnant teens are allowed to marry (with parental consent, of course). And if the spouse in question is a foreigner, doesn't she have the right to adopt the spouse's nationality? Such girl can be considered an emancipated minor, per se.. If at all the marriageable age should be amended, it's definitely not in that section/clause... Let's be rational please. I only blame the senator for cowering under pressure. He should have just given his reasons for voting No and sensitise his people on what actually transpired instead of apologising for doing nothing wrong. |
naptu2: 1) There were already many underage wives when Aminu Kano made the proposal in 1979 and there was no Child Rights Act. Also note that the subsection does not legalise the act of marrying a child. It only addresses the issue of girls that are already married.Kudos. pls educate our peeps. Everybody just jumped into the #childNotBride bandwagon without even studying the crux of the matter. |
I guess we're getting too emotional here.... No bill was passed to enforce or encourage child marriage. The argument was whether to remove a clause in the amended constitution which states that any female married at any age will be considered an adult. Yerima pointed out that removing that clause would contravene their Islamic beliefs. Voting ensued. THE VOTE WAS NOT ON LEGALISATION OF CHILD MARRIAGE, but on the legal consideration of an underage married female as an adult. Let's get logical a bit pls. Cut that Yoruba senator some slack. |
The Catholic church cannot declare an event a "miracle" until after exhausting scientific investigation... Let's leave the Vatican to figure it out. |
Can a governor appoint a pretty adviser without people speculating of any "special services"?... Was she the only one fired? Y'all can as well just admit you jerk off at her pics. |
