Unlike 1967, when people still believed in Nigeria and joined the military against Biafra, this time, if the army is banking on recruiting youths to fight when the time comes, they've failed. They will not recruit, and even when they've done so, the process is skewed and unfair. Many are jobless, feel hopeless and marginalized. Many are dying already. And for me dying is more painful than death.
In advance climes, the president would have addressed the recent unrest, but for our own, forget it.

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has warned that henceforth, internet users that spread hate messages and false news will be arrested and imprisoned or pay the fine of N25 million.

Disclosing this at a one day roundtable meeting with bloggers, online newspaper and related social media users organised by National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Tuesday in Abuja, Idris noted that cybercrime law of 2015 contains the punishment of spreading hate speech or fake news.

Represented by Kondom Joseph, the Inspector General of Police stated that, “It is sad to note that the many public officers who have been threatening to deal ruthlessly with the excesses of social media operators have not familiarised themselves with the provisions of the two-year old law.”

According to him, “it is high time the attention of Nigerian was drawn to sections 24 and 26 of the Act which provides that, 24 (1) Any person who knowingly or intentionally sends a message or other matter by means of computer systems or network that is grossly offensive, pornographic or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character or causes any such message to be send.”
“Or he knows to be false, for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will or needless anxiety to another or causes such a message to be; commits an offence under this Act. In the case of paragraphs (a) and (b) of this subsection to imprisonment for a term of 10 years and/or a minimum fine of N25, 000, 000.00,” Idris stated.

In his remarks, the Director General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Garba Abari noted that, “the world over, history is replete with heroic strides the media has recorded in nation building and Nigeria is no exception.”
He stated that the vibrancy of every democracy is measured by the freedom the media enjoys.” Be assured that this administration is committed to preserving the freedom of the press. We must however be reminded that as a worthy partner in the art of governance, a free and responsible press,” Garba noted.

The DG explained that, “In recognition of the critical role of the media in promoting peaceful coexistence and national development within the context of democratic governance, the National Orientation Agency, in its continuous engagement with this critical sector of national development, establish effective platforms for countering the current spate of hate speeches and fake news which are capable of inflaming the polity.”

He said the Agency has effectively engage the media in the various on-going memory-healing and reconciliation programs and processes in the localities recovering from devastation arising from insurgency and terrorism.

“While significant gains have been recorded in this respect, the emergence and activities of the new media has thrown up great concerns within the social space.”

Abari explained that these concerns about the social media are genuine for obvious reasons giving its ambivalent character, both as a potent tool for promoting transparency, accountability and national peace and unity, on the one hand, and on the other, for promoting hatred, divisiveness and civil unrest, depending on the user and the motive.

He urged all media practitioners to put Nigeria first in the course of their job as it will go a long way in curbing hate messages in the country.

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Director of London based radio Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, says the worst mistake Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari ever made was to arrest him.

The IPOB leader made this comment while addressing some IPOB supporters at his father’s residence in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, where he revealed that that some people from the South East were responsible for the delay in the actualisation of Biafra.

Kanu, who had threaten to burn Nigeria if he is re-arrested, stressed that President Buhari and the Nigerian military should be afraid of him because of what he could do to the “zoo” referring to Nigeria.

After a series of embarrassing and unnecessary denials that attended the redeployment of erstwhile Commissioner of Police , Lagos State Command , Fatai Owoseni ; and his replacement with Imohimi D. Edgar , the authorities have finally confirmed the media reports .

Earlier in the week, the media had reported the redeployment of Mr . Owoseni to Abuja , but he quickly issued a hot rebuttal that seemed to impugn media ’ s integrity , saying he was not aware of his redeployment and that he remained Lagos Police Commissioner .

However , the Inspector General of Police , Ibrahim . K, Idris , on Thursday , has ordered the posting of Mr . Imohimi D . Edgar to Lagos State Police Command as the new Commissioner of Police .

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has appointed, Imohimi Edgar, as the new Commissioner of Police in-charge-of the Lagos State Command, following Edgar’s recent promotion to by the Police Service Commission.

‎Edgar, a seasoned police officer, who was until his promotion, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, in-charge-of Operations, in Lagos State, was instrumental in ending activities of the dreaded Badoo cult and militants carrying out kidnappings within Ikorodu and its adjoining communities.

He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force, as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, on February 2, 1986, serving in various commands and formations of the NPF within the country in several capacities, spending most of his days at the Lagos State Police Command.

A 1984 graduate of Art at the University of Jos, who went on to bag a master degree in Public and International Affairs at the University of Lagos in 2004, Edgar is highly trained on Community and Intelligence Gathering Policing, enabling him in organising the first Community Policing summits in Ikeja GRA, Lagos State.

It’s on record that Edgar, who served as the Divisional Police Officer of Shomolu Police Division, Seme Police Division, Ikeja and Surelere Police Divisions, between the year 2003 and 2011, as a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, before he was promoted and appointed the Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, in-charge-of the Area A, Command, Lagos, ‎obtained a diploma degree in Police Science. ‎

He also obtained a certificate of National Security for Nigeria Defense Intelligence, at the Centre of Strategic Studies, Galilee International Management Institute Israel and the Defense Intelligence College Abuja in 2015, which necessitated his appointment as the ACP in-charge-of the Intelligence at the Police Force Headquarters Abuja.


An expert in Community Policing, Edgar attended several courses organised by the Department For International Development, DFID, United Kingdom, in Lagos, Awka, Anambra States and Staff College Jos, Plateau State, making him Community Policing in Nigeria.

In 2010, Edgal, as DPO Ikeja Division, launched the first Community Policing in Ikeja Lagos State. He hosted security stakeholders in Ikeja, at Savoy Suite, GRA and lectured participants on how to assist the police on Community Policing.

Following his promotion to the rank of a DCP and his appointment as DC ops Lagos State, Edgar through his community policing experience, mobilised a joint security operation, involving members of the Oodua Progress Congress, OPC, Ikorodu Local Vigilante, Oyebo, the Departments of State Services, DSS, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, ‎traditionalists and some local chiefs in Ikorodu, in tackling the menace of the Badoo cult group, which has killed several persons in Ikorodu and Ogijo areas of Lagos and Ogun State, his effort aided the discovery of a suspected notorious shrine which is used for ritual purposes .

He was also said to have played a huge role in the successful rescue of the six kidnapped students, of Lagos Model College, Igbonla, Epe, who were abducted on May 25, 2017, by gunmen who invaded the school.

Edgal was said to have mobilised policemen from the Anti-Robbery and Kidnapping units of the Lagos Command Police, and their counterparts at the Marine Police in attacking and killing members of the kidnap gang when they attempted to snatching some police gunboats, from the Marine Police Post in Ajah.

The leader of the kidnap gang, known as America was killed in that operation, his death and the subsequent arrest of relatives of his gang members compelled members of gang in releasing the kidnapped students in Ondo State.‎

That is likely a typographical error. I believe its trillion(s). Even some frugal bank managers can have 1 billion in their cabal/liability. Bankers know what I mean. Don't forget Stanbic IBTC is an international bank and one of the best PFA in Nigeria. They have more liability(deposit) because they have few structures and the likes. Don't forget, bank count these stated liabilities as assets, because they are used to give loans, investments, etc.

When bank managers talk of liability, it doesn't necessarily mean deficit, but deposits and the likes. Its termed liability because they're obligated to pay these deposits,interests, etc in the future or on demand.

Wanczyk, 53, is the winner of the largest single lottery jackpot ever in North America, the $758.7 million grand prize in Wednesday’s Power Ball.
