All of una wey dey wait, hope you read Wednesday's update already? If not, hop over to page 168 before you rejoin us here ![]() CHISCO’S RAGE “APC is doing everything to save the face of the ‘uncommon defector’. Can you imagine the court stopping the issuance of the certificate of return to his opponent? How much more desperate can they get? They could not even wait for the election petitions tribunal to commence sitting! Is that not corruption on top of everything?" “Akpabio is one Judas the APC will love to retain. He was their biggest catch. Dumping the PDP in its South-South stronghold was not an easy feat whichever way you look at it. Even with the EFCC hammer over him, he could have entered a plea bargain or whatever and would have still been free. Decamping was huge, and if they don’t get him a seat in the Senate that will be the beginning of his descent into political limbo, and a monumental loss to APC. You know there is always the chance that he could return to PDP." "And if he does that, he can go and ask Atiku how life as a perennial cross-carpetter is.” “This elections exposed him and other party big wigs in the south. Osinbanjo lost his constituency, Fashola same. Amaechi, Ajimobi, Oshiomhole, even Tinubu who boasted that he was going to deliver Southwest block votes had to depend on political abracadabra to win Lagos.” “It all boils down to what I said about the north and southern voters and by extension, political leadership in these two regions. In the North, the Kwankaso’s of this world would be followed by ordinary people, the almajiris and the like and on election day they will all be out there to votie. Much has been said about underage voters and whatnot in the North, but it still underlines the narrative that they pursue actual votes. It is the surest thing you can get. But the ogas from the south, they cannot get their people to go out to vote so what they have are the likes of MC Oluomo and the masked boys in the South-South. If they cannot get stuffed ballot papers or fake result sheets to the collation centers or Engineer some kind of violence thay cannot have their way.” “It is true. Senator Magnus Abe said Rotimi Amaechi once asked him to go and bomb the INEC office in Port-Harcourt.” “That is what I am talking about. Now it is only going to get harder and harder to decide elections using violence and such manipulations. I see the coming electoral reforms making sure of that.” “Did you see the video of the man in Akpabio’s constituency caught with stuffed ballot boxes in a white van belonging to Akpabio’s brother?” “I hope his opponent has the video so he can show the court. But I feel sorry for the man. He is really up against it.” "But the man ugly o. Chris Ekpenyong. He looks like Oshiomhole's biological uncle." “Meanwhile Atiku is hellbent on going to court.” “It is his right to. But I have never seen a court case for which the outcome is more obvious. People are saying that it is karma for him to go and fool himself and spend all the money he looted for a failed presidential bid.” “He should listen to the voice of reason and call the president and congratulate him.” “How many times did this president call and congratulate his opponents when he lost elections? He never did! Atiku is not Jonathan. There may never be another Jonathan in fact, but Buhari deserves to be shaken abeg. He was never a good sportsman. Even in victory he is not gracious. Imagine saying while the elections were on that he knew he was going to win and that he would congratulate himself. "My prayer is that he sees the need to leave a legacy with these final four years. But if Atiku will make him sweat so be it.” As they spoke they heard pandemonium over at the shops and they all rushed down there only to see Chisco over Agbonyibo. When Achike finished talking, Chisco stormed out of the room and went in search of Agonyibo. He stopped in front of Josiah’s shop and pulled a plank from a heep of things and went after his target, who stood in front of his shop backing Chisco. The first swing of the plank caught Agbonyibo in the back. He fell forward and turned to find an angry Chisco looming over him. Agbonyibo ordinarly was no slouch, but the element of surprise was with Chisco, who now targeted Agbonyibo’s knees and rendered him immobile. He then took apart his elbows, caught his ribs and his arms as he tried to protect his face. Another blow landed on Agbonyibo’s head, and then his back again. He pummeled Agbonyibo relentlessly and was about to deliver what would have undoubtedly been a fatal blow to the head when Josiah managed to dispossess him of the plank. Chisco, strong as an ox, wriggled free from the many hands that now held him and sat on Agbonyibo’s stomach and delivered heavy fists into his face. The men were finally able to separate Chisco from Agonyibo, who now looked like he escaped from a grinding machine, with blood oozing from his mouth, torn lips and eyelids, and cracked skull. “What is this Chisco?” “What did this peaceful man do?” “Chisco has gone mad!” The men wasted no time packing Agbonyibo onto a keke and rushing him to God Dey hospital, while some others tried to calm Chisco down. Chisco said nothing and went to the backyard and straight to the bathroom to wash Agbonyibo’s blood and heavy perspiration from his body. The elders tried to get Chisco to explain the bloody assault on Agbonyibo. “You nearly killed that man!” Mr. Zubi said. “If you don’t explain yourself we are going to have to get you arrested!” “Make you ask him” was all Chisco said to the men. He allowed Josephine into Achike's room and told her everything. Josephine advised him on what to do. Chisco then helped Achike to the bathroom and back, and then went out and returned with a painted taxi and drove away with his brother. They rolled Agbonyibo into the emergency ward at the hospital. The doctor declared that he needed to have a scan on his head and would require several stitches to repair the damage done to him. But first, they needed to contain his heavy bleeding. He weakly requested that he be first allowed to use the toilet. He climbed down gingerly from the stretcher he was placed, refused to be accompanied by the male nurse assigned to do so and crawled in the direction they pointed to him. After twenty minutes, the nurse decided to go and see if the badly battered man was doing well or needed help in the toilet. The nurse did not find him there. For the next two hours, the nurses and all the hospital staff and Josiah and Lukman who accompanied him to the hospital searched everywhere in the hospital and its environs for Agbonyibo but they did not find him. No one saw him leaving the hospital. Word reached Alhaji Sirika on the goings on in his house and he hopped into his jeep and pulled up in front of the compound while the crowd was still gathered. Mr. Zubi went to him and greeted him. “What is going on here?” “We are trying to unravel it Alhaji.” “Where is Agbonyankee?” “He was taken to the hospital.” “Who attacked him?” “Achike’s brother.” “Why?” “Only one person knows. The nurse. We are trying to get her to talk. But ehh Alhaji, may I suggest that we go to my palour and sit down. We were already planning to come and see you but since you are here…” “Say what you want to say here! What am I coming to your place for?” “Alhaji. We are all worred about Agbonyibo. We know what you went to his room for the last time you came. We need to talk sir and we cannot talk here.” Alhaji Sirika looked around to see who was within earshot after Mr. Zubi spoke. It was only Cosmas. Alhaji Sirika gathered his Agbada and said: “Okay let’s go.” Mr Zubi called to Josephine to go with them and she reluctantly followed. They all perched around the room while Alhaji Sirika took Mr. Zubi’s favorite armchair. “Nurse, tell us what Chisco told you. You saw the way he beat up that man. You cannot keep quiet.” “I don’t know if I should say,” Josephine said. “Young lady. You have to tell us. If that man dies we are all in soup. You know your police. I am the owner of this house. If you cannot talk to anybody you should be able to talk to me.” “The man raped his brother.” “What?” “Otio!” “What do you mean?” “He used his daughter to lure Achike into his room and raped him in the anus and injured him badly. I advised him to take Achike out of here for some days. He should not share a toilet or bathroom that’s why. I will help with the treatment.” The men looked at each other and then Comas said “Thank you nurse. You can leave us now.” When she had gone Mr Zubi said: “Alhaji, where did you bring that man from?” It was the first time Zubi and Cosmas would see Alhaji Sirika so sober. They knew they had to let him do all his introspection. No one dared to blink until the Alhaji was ready to speak. “He sells everything you need to prepare medicine. The rarest things you can get from him.” “By medicine you mean juju?” Mr Zubi said. Alhaji Sirika glared at him but did not answer the question. “That is what people come to him to buy.” “So those are the animals he claims to rare in his shop?” “He does a lot of things.” “So that is what those men always clutch in the black nylon bags. Exotic juju ingredients.” Alhaji Sirika sighed and continued. “He had accommodation problems and I decided to help out. I have always been his customer.” “His wife Alhaji. What was that all about?” “That, you will not understand even if I told you.” “You are right sir that we will not understand you coming to have sex with a man’s wife in his house in a public compound with the knowledge of the husband.” Alhaji Sirika rose. “We don’t want him here anymore.” “This is not your house.” “He just raped a forty year old man! What do you think he will do to our children?” Alhaji Sirika made for the door. “Get him out of here sir. If you don’t, we will report him.” “Do whatever you want,” Alhaji Sirika said and marched out of the compound. Everyone was running to the frontage as Chisco attacked Agbonyibo when Mama Tobi saw a thin an old man wearing only a dirty pair of shorts and a raffia hat with a raffia bag slung on his shoulder – a classic palm wine tapper appearance – running towards her and screeching “Mama,” “mama” in the voice of a toddler. She remembered Agbonyibo’s words “Wetin I go beg you be say anything wey you see make you hold yourself if not, you spoil everything.” She tried to comport herself, but just then she saw them putting Agbonyibo in a keke for the hospital. Then she turned and saw the old man looking at her. “The blood of Jesus!” she said and put her hands on her head. Dozie knew that Mama Tobi could see him for who he really was. He went closer to her. A toddler in the eyes of others but an old man in the eyes of Mama Tobi. “I know you can see me and I know he has told you. But he is gone now and will not come back and you will not be able to undo what has been done. I can avoid you if you want, but you will keep your mouth shut. Tell another soul and neither you nor any of your children will wake up tomorrow morning.” Irikefe pulled Castro to one side. “Guy, you hear wetin I hear?” “Wetin be dat?” “Dem say Agbonyibo rape Achike scatter him nyash and also burst him blokos.” “Na wetin make Chisco wan kill am?” “I swear. Then them carry am go hospital him come disappear for broad day light.” “My God.” “We have to finish off that bastard tonight. His powers are in the shop. I know where to target. If we don’t do it, he will be back with vengeance.” “Why don’t we tell the elders? Now Everyone has seen what he is, so we can all deal with it together.” “Which elders? When have they ever solved a problem in this compound? This Achike when dem hammer so, no be elder? How that monkey go put big man like Achike for ground fvck am for nyash and you come dey tell me to go to the elders? If you are not going to join me, you can go back to your house and go and suck your mothers breasts.” “Alright I’m coming.” So that night at about 11:30, Irikefe with Castro, armed with a crowbar and hammer went to break into Agbonyibo’s shop so that they could destroy his seat of power as Mama Akunna had directed Irikefe. Only they did not see the green hawk that was watching them from the roof of number 223. TO BE CONTINUED. |

THE REVELATION Everyone in the compound who did not need to go out that morning congregated after the results were announced. “So Buhari won. Kai. What a shame.” “What is kai, what a shame. Did you go out to vote?” “I didn’t bother because I knew our votes would not count.” “Then you got what you asked for.” “But the ballot snatching, the thuggery.” “Did you see the numbers? The South East alone has ten million registered voters. The South-South 9.6 million. How many came out to vote? I said it even during Jonathan’s time that if the South-South had come out to vote for him as their son, as the North will always do for theirs, he would have retained his seat. Votes don’t count we cry. Really? Then why do people still risk a bullet to snatch ballot boxes? Why do they still pay for these votes that don’t count? You will say, oh, let me rest joor, mine is only one vote. More that fifteen million people like you are the reason why the North will always decide elections in this country. Whenever somebody leaves something for anybody to do, nobody always does it. We like to laugh at the North here down South because they are not Twitter warriors, but the people know what we don’t. The other day we were mocking them for being at the polling units by 2 am. Today who is laughing last? As for Buhari and Atiku, I said it the other day that it is dog eat dog and may the stronger dog win. The stronger dog has won.” “Mr Cosmas I know why they won. It is Saraki and Atiku himself who went over to the APC to betray Jonathan that gave them the rigging secrets those ones have now used on them.” “If that is the case Josiah, then it is poetic justice.” “Yes. Very importantly as well, all the Judases lost this election. Akpabio, Saraki, Akume, Uduaghan to mention but four.” “And in each of these cases, we saw the power of the people. Gone are those days when you sit somewhere and control things by remote. We know there are flaws in the system. But the fundamental thing in democracy still held sway ie the voice of the people. As Ekpenyong the conqueror of Akpabio said, that while he was going from ward to ward seeking for votes, Akpabio was busy hobnobbing all over the place thinking that “federal might” will help him. Saraki was following Atiku to Washington and other places and ignored the electorates. Those who have seen the light went from door to door after the people that mattered. And in the end, no amount of shooting, ballot box snatching, intimidation etc could subvert the will of the people. "Buhari visited all the thirty-six states of the federation, made four National broadcasts in two weeks. Osinbanjo crawled in markets, entered train and a broken helicopter. Do you think if these guys were so sure of victory that they would have gone through all that trouble? They rigged! they rigged! Na today? "In the end, my people, I will say to you that it doesn’t matter who is president. If you no work, you no go chop. Better pick up yourself and go and find your hustle. Your destiny is more in your hands than in that of APC or PDP. As for Atiku, he should borrow a leaf from Goodluck Azikiwe Jonathan, a man I now have renewed respect for. Those telling you to form a parallel government or go to court as if Buhari obeys the court want to push you to your grave as they did MKO Abiola. Ogbeni, pick up the phone and call Mr. President and congratulate him.” Mama Tobi sat and looked at the steaming basin of fufu in front of her. She could not find the motivation to wrap it into smaller portions for sale. Tears began to stream down her cheeks and into the basin. She had been so close to freedom from that life. She actually handled her freedom, put it under her bed when there was no one watching but still someone came and took it. Why? Mama Tobi bew her nose into the ear of her wrapper, picked up the big nylon spread beside her and covered the fufu and went downstirs. She knocked on the desired door and entered. Agbonyibo stood and prostrated before Mama Tobi. “No oga. Abeg no lie down for me.” “Ah, madam. As you come my house today, for the first time, I surprise and I dey happy,” He said and stood upright. “Abeg siddon.” Mama Tobi took the seat opposite him as Eyonyam and Evae stole out of the room. As soon as they were left alone Mama Tobi began to sob again. “Wetin happen madam. Abeg no cry.” “Oga Togo. I take God name beg you. Tell me true.” “True about wetin madam?” “My money.” “Oh.” “Was it really Mama Akunna?” “But you hear am confess with him mouth na.” “Then why did we not find the money in her room?” “You think say thief no get sense?” “What do yo mean by that oga?” “Madam if I thief money and I know say na me dem go suspect I no go keep de money for house. Simple.” “I want my money back.” “Hmmm.” “I came to you because you must know a way. As you knew how to find the thief, you should know how to use the same method to get the money back.” Agbonyibo thought about it. He was not sure he wanted to get involved with that. “Go back go meet police or beg the people of the compound to beg am to give you your money.” “The police have failed. Everyone is calling me a fool. I have been abandoned. Even my daughter has lost all respect and regard for me. I have finally lost her to the Calabar boy. Now I know he is telling her I told you so. And now I am suffering even more than before. I can’t go on like this. God will punish Mama Akunna.” “Hmmm.” “Oga, I will do anything. Even if na juju. I will do it to get my money back. And even after I get my money I will do something to her she will never ever forget.” “Kill that him pikin.” “What?” Agbonyibo was not always quick to talk. But he had once again betrayed himself. He found that he could not even stop himself. “That him granpikin, kill am. Na wetin go pain am be dat.” “What? An innocent child?” “Who innocent? Madam, think. Who dey there when dem give you de money? Who dey there when you put de money under your bed? Who dey follow you, dey look your mouth everytime you dey talk for phone?” “But…” Mama Tobi felt a chill run through her spine. Little Dozie. He was always there. Mama Tobi’s heart began to race. Everything began to fall into place. Those moments when she would look at the toddler and would see the knowing eyes of an adult looking back at her and she would dismiss it as paranoia. How it always happened that the boy always came around when she was about to make an important phone call and would cling to her and wold only leave after she had finished the call. She even rememberd that she had to move him out of the way to hide the money and he had run out of the room as soon as she had tucked it away. “The boy and him granmama na five and six. You know wetin I dey talk abi?” “I’m confused.” “You wan end your confusion?” “Yes.” “You go do wetin I tell you to do?” “I want to know everything. I want to know how she stole my money.” “You no go fear?” “Why? Which fear pass this wretched life they have rendered me to?” “Wait,” Agbonyibo said and went out of the room and returned five minutes later and gave MamaTobi something in a tiny bottle. “When you reach your house. Put one drop of that thing for your two eye and wait for the pikin to come meet you. Anything you see, come tell me.” Mama Tobi was now sweating in her palm but she held the bottle tight. “I go put am now. Help me. And when I put am I go go find the boy.” “Okay, Come make I put am for you.” Agbonyibo put two drops of the liquid in each of Mama Tobi’s eyes. She blinked. Everything felt normal. “Wetin I go beg you be say anything wey you see make you hold yourself, if not, you spoil everything.” “Okay sir.” “I no be sir. I be Agbonyibo.” They had just knocked two bottles of beer each and had had some suya. Castro was regaining himself by the second. It was as if he just regained his power of speech. “Guy, I nearly die o.” “No be wetin you been want?” “Mehn, I no just know how e happen.” “Anyway, glad Willy-willy found you. Is it true he went to the room to hide beer in his bag?” “I tell you. Small rat like that.” “Don’t insult him. Na dat beer wey dey hungry am save your life.” “Na so I see am, bro.” “But how do you judge that? A wrong act bringing about such good. I for like ask Cosmas that question.” “I will just say everything happens for a reason. From today, if small pikin wan drink beer, I no go stop am. Even if him wan carry Asewo, I go encourage am. You just don’t know the life the act might be saving.” “Hahaha Castro. You see your small brother dey carry woman you no go stop am?” “If to say person stop am when him carry beer, I for don die. My own experience don teach me my own life lesson. Anything wey person feel say e good for am for this life, make him do am.” “I understand you my guy.” “Okay so tell me. Wetin we go do that monkey and him pikin?” “The man na big winch. I know where him power dey. Na to go there go scatter the seat of the power. Dem say if I do like that say him go weak and him go leave by himself. But no be where I go stop be dat. I wan beat am join.” “And I need him daughter to restore my dick.” “Exactly. So wetin we go do be say, we go break into the shop for night, I know wetin I go target inside. When I don scatter am finish we go come go him room drag am out come disgbangban am like thief.” “Sounds good to me. But how we go get Evae to restore my thing?” “We will first hold them hostage. Tell the man that we are going to kill him for his crimes. He sent bees from hell to attack my father. And only God know wetin him wife and pikin carry for their nyash. So we go tell am say we don arrest am for crimes against humanity. He will beg for his life. And one of the conditions we will give him is that his daughter makes you whole again.” “And when she does I will test it on her.” “I will advise that you abandon that thought. Once beaten…” “What if it doesn’t work on another girl?” “What if you do it and you lose it patapata? I thought you would know better after just narrowly escaped death?” “Alright.” “So when do we act?” “Tonight. No time to waste.” “Cool. Meanwhile, how you manage come dey generous like this Irikefe? Where the money come from.” “Forget about that one. By tomorrow we go come back here come celebrate. You guy hold cash.” “Kai, see wetin I for miss if to say I die.” “Tell yourself.” “And I for no watch that League cup final. I no for see how Liverpool go take throway the league.” “You think Man City will win it.” “Yes.” “Come o, you see Chelsea goalkeeper that night? Wetin the boy smoke? Just goes to show the rot in that club. The players know the coaches are powerless. He should never play for them again. Shame.” “And what will they gain? I admire the coach's stand on the matter. He has said he will not kill the boy. They world is just morbid and like drama. People are disappointed the coach did not continue with his touchline rage and make more damning utterances so they have something to write about for weeks. Thumbs up for Sarri. Forgive the boy and move on.” “Meanwhile Solkjaer’s former teammates are saying the man should be given the job full time at United or face a mutiny.” “Well, he has done well enough to merit the job. But how many times have we seen it in the past that interim coaches come and do wonders and as soon as they get the job full time things go South. The latest being Leicesters Shakespear and famously Chelsea’s Di Mateo? I would say they pursue the few top coaches available in the summer. Ultimately experiences always comes to bear.” “Anyway, lets just consolidate fourth place tonight against Palace, even though by then we will be showing Agbonyibo who is king.” “Yes bro. Just remember to do only as I say when the times comes.” “Yes sir.” “Do you know how to give a massage Chisco?” “I sabi. I been dey massage our Igwe two times every month.” “Is there anything you can’t do my champion?” “I can do everything wey you want my sweet nurse.” “Call me sweetie. Just sweetie.” “Okay.” “Have I not proven to you already that we are equals?” “You don prove, sweetie.” “Good. Now come and give me a massage.” Josephine tossed aside her wrapper and lay on her tummy completely nude. Chisco was aroused afresh, but he would not miss this opportunity to further impress her. “You get oil?” “Yes I have baby oil.” “No, I mean coconut oil. Na de best oil to take rub body be dat.” “Where will I get coconut oil from?” “I bring plenty come give my broda. I go go him room go collect am.” “Achike will not let you in my champion. You know that. Not now that he is newly married." “Na me prepare de oil from village bring am come Lagos. Him no go stop me.” He found the wrapper and covered the nurse and dashed out of the room before she could stop him. He met Achike’s door ajar. He pushed it and entered. Achike lay on the floor and there were flies buzzing around his shorts. The room stank of faeces. “Brother, wetin dey do you?” Chisco said and went closer. Sure enough, Achike had soiled himself. “Wetin be dis brother?” Achike could only groan in pain. He was also fighting tears. “Your belle dey pain you? You get dysentery?” Achike needed help. And before him was the only person in the world he could talk to. Achike managed to support himself on his elbow in the plank position and said: “Nwanne m…” he began, and tearfully told Chisco everything. Right about the same time Sister Esther happened on the corridor and found Mr Kingsley smiling from ear to ear at something the little Togolese wh*re was telling him. What was happening in their compound! The girl saw her face and straightened up and swung away in a manner that made her feel like a palm tree. Esther looked at Kingsley and then at the retreating Evae and said "And you too? You are not ashamed of yourself. Something that they have been passing around the whole Street. You whom I thought knew better." Mr Kingsley sat back in front of his door and continued his reading. "You will die for nothing, I promise you." "Something must kill a man..." Sister Esther stretched forth a hand and said "Hold it! don't use words reserved for real men. Brave men. Anuofia." "No one ever fell in love without being a little brave - Mario Tommasello." Adesina12:Abeg look well bros. The guy said he "can't remember any deaths." Doesn't mean there wasn't. An isolated incident in Rivers (Chai, always Rivers) is forgettable. At any rate, his concern was the effect of the spoken word. We could have done without going out wondering where the first shots will come from. Thanks for the popcorn old bros. |

Dhavido:Chai, because of the election I no even remember the games. Anyway, we go do postmortem by Wednesday. Will try for a midweek update because of the election results wey suppose don enter by then. |
A PLAN It did not start as a normal day on Katakata street. For once, there was no discernable routine for inhabitants. Most had already made up their minds what they wanted to do. Those who wanted to go and vote were the first to queue up at the bathroom. Most ensured their phones were fully charged for social media activities. Those who were thankful for a free day to sleep in only went to the backyard to pee and then returned to their rooms. Then in the evening, they all gathered to talk about election day. “Please who is winning?” “We don't know for sure. #AtikuIsWinning and #BuhariIsWinning are trending. We should at least wait for the state by state results before we begin to get excited.” “Who do you think will win Mr Cosmas?” “For me, it is inconsequential at this point. I am rather more concerned about some of the goings on, particularly the killings that have taken place. We woke to the news of the shooting of a PDP agent in Rivers. There have since been more deaths in Rivers. Particularly heart-wrenching was that of the twenty-five year old man in Oyo. Did you see his distraught family on Channels? Then the thuggery in Lagos. How do you see all that and believe there will be a credible winner?” “You see why me I stayed back at home? What’s the point? If you are lucky not to be killed your votes get stolen and destroyed.” “It is instructive to note that there are no deaths recorded in the north. As early as 2 am, men, women, children, and cows were already at the polling units. But we here in the south are all over the place killing ourselves, for an election between two northerners.” “President Jonathan in 2015 admonished that his ambition was not worth the blood of any Nigerian. We saw how it went. I can’t remember any deaths. But this president, in issuing that threat with loss of life sowed the seed for what has happened.” “But he only said those that snatched ballot boxes!” “You say that to a security team that understands English. We know the proclivities of our armed law enforcement agencies. There is evidence of soldiers shooting at people in Rivers State. It did not happen in 2015.” “And you blame Buhari for it?” “The words that we speak, they are spirit and they are life. Once a word is uttered, its creative powers sends your volition into existence in creation. What was wrong with saying anyone caught in election malpractice will face the full wrath of the law? Life and death are in the power of the tongue." “I don’t understand this aswear.” “What don’t you understand? The man said anybody caught snatching ballot boxes will pay with their lives. Immediately the blood-sucking demons in the land heard it and woke up. Things began happening. Thugs picked up their guns and their knives. Soldiers began shooting in Rivers State. Once those words were uttered it was inevitable that there would be deaths. Snatching of ballot boxes is a way of life in Naija. And these uniformed gunmen just like to shoot. Didn't you see the custom’s man the other day? How about the everyday accidental discharge of the police? Soldiers nko? I stayed back home because I knew that even an attempt to stand and defend one’s vote could be interpreted as snatching of ballot box. I no wan die. Our uniformed armed men are maniacs and the most powerful man in the land should know that and choose his words well.” Mr Cosmas smiled at Josiah. He could not have put in simpler terms. “Anyway”, he continued “The disenfranchisement of the Igbos, the deliberate shutting out of opposition agents from collation centres, the burning of materials in Osun INEC, just go to cast a dark cloud over proceedings.” “Both major parties are guilty. A man spoke of being offered 3k to vote by both PDP and APC agents and he did not know what to do.” “PDP rigging of elections is legendary. The late Yar’Adua himself admitted as much. And the present APC and PDP and two sides of the same coin. It is essentially dog eat dog. May the stronger dog win. I only want to look at the few positives from the process. The strides of Banky W. The resolve of the people of Kwara. It just go to show that there is hope for us after all. Within only three months our gorimapa Chris Brown was able to shake a long-standing table and almost broke the leg. It means people will listen if you have something to say. The Saraki fiefdom is being decimated by common people. Did you see the videos? The Otoge movement? It is proof indeed that power belongs to the people.” “The same should just happen in Lagos. We are tired of Tinubu.” “Man came out to ask us if it was our business that there were bullion vans in his home. Is it your money? He asked. Why can’t we just rally round Jimi Agbaje and repeat Kwara here?” “It is only a matter of time. The Kwara one did not happen overnight. Like I said, look at Banky. I can imagine more progressives joing the MDP for 2023 and there could be an earthquake in Lagos.” “They shoud just be wise and align with the PDP. With a problem that size, we don't want to see any more Fela Durotoye or Sowore or Kingsley Moghalu. Imagine Fela Durotoye against Oluremi Tinubu for Senate? He could have floored her. Do you know how much of a stride that could have been? But the dude with his celebrated 900 thousand followers on Twitter woke up and decided to be president. Banky gets all my respect in this election. It is the only thing to cheer for me.” “Anyway, let’s wait for the official results. I’m done speculating. I’m sad for the dead.” "May they rest in peace." "Do not wish the dead to rest in peace." "Why, Mr Cosmas?" Mr Zubi then whispered something in the ears of Mr Cosmas. "Topic for another day," he said. Then he and Mr Zubi excused themselves and left the gathering. They left for the hospital to meet with Papa Efe. Papa Efe’s bandages had now been removed and he was noticably upbeat. The two men dragged two plastic chairs from adjoining beds and sat close to the old man. “Thank you as you come to see me,” he said. “You’re welcome Papa Efe. I hope you are better now?” “Yes. I will soon get discharge. Na bee bite me no be moto jam me.” “Yes, but it was a vicious attack. Strange.” “Hmmm, na so I see am my brothers.” There was a moment of silence before Papa Efe spoke again. “I know say na something bring you people here. but I wonder what is it wey you cannot wait for me to come house.” Cosmas and Zubi looked at each other. It was not unusual for each to defer to the other when it came to who spoke first. Cosmas decided to give the honour to Zubi this time, afterall, he was he most affected by their concern. “We know you are coming back soon, Papa Efe. But this can barely wait, and being able to talk at a neutral location is also something we needed to take advantage of.” “I dey hear you.” “We are worried about something.” “What is it?” “Strange things are happening in the compound. Strange behaviours are manifesting. I will be surprised if you have not noticed, but we thought it was important for us to come and put heads with you to find a solution.” “I dey hear.” “It is Agbonyibo.” Papa Efe would have maintained the same demeanor if he was told that Buhari was the president of Nigeria. “You don’t seem surprised sir.” “I be old man. If something fit surprise me now that mean say I no live my life well.” “He is using his wife and daughter as sex traps. My son and I have been victims. Alhaji Sirika has come and been with his wife in that compound. He smiles too much for comfort, appears docile, but clearly there is an evil motive about him going by these activities. Where did he come from and what is he doing in our compound?” Papa Efe nodded slowly and kept his gaze on the window overlooking the hospital car park. “So what una dey think?” “These are not normal behaviors. You know how we live. Our lives intertwine because of our misfortune to be sharing the most intimate of things through no fault of ours. We know we are poor, but at least before now we could say we had peace of mind. But what we are seeing now is dangerous. Our children are in that compound.” “Papa Efe" Mr. Cosmas spoke for the first time. “We want to go to the landlord and lay bare our concern. He clearly has some affinity with the man. He brought him to the compound. He may have something to tell us. He has also avoided the house since that unfortunate situation. Who knows, he may also need help. Together we can solve this problem.” “Indeed. I am also thinking that the man may even be an illegal immigrant. We could petition the authorities to remove him not just from our compound but from our country. He needs to be far away from normal people.” “He is from an ECOWAS country. There is economic cooperation within the subregion. He may have the right to be here.” “Then why are the Ghanaians sending our people away every day from their country? The most recent one last week. They cited prostitution and other social vices as the reason. Ecomonic cooperation means trade, not immigration.” “You have a point there Mr Zubi.” Papa Efe kept quiet and listened as the men spoke grammar. He already knew what he was going to do about Agbonyibo. “So Papa Efe. Let’s accord the owner of the compound who is also directly affected by this the regard he deserves by first going to him. If he does nothing, then we report Agbonyibo. Knowing our authorities, we don’t even need to explain too much. We just grease their palms and they will come and throw him out so that we can have our peace again.” “Alright. When dem discharge me, we will go.” “Thanks, Papa Efe. We knew we could count on you.” “But one thing. My son Efe. Help me put eye for him before I come back. He dey act before he think. He no like Agbonyibo and I know say him can something stupid.” “Okay, I will talk to him and let him know we have this one covered,” Mr Cosmas said. “Okay, thank you.” Irikefe returned to the compound in a hurry. He walked straight into the corridor but stopped short when he saw Achike coming out of Agbonyibo’s room. Mama Akunna’s words came rushing: “him dey fvck man for nyash.” He had earier seen his wife and daughter in front of their shop. That meant Achike had spent time alone with Agbonyibo. That toad that had always dreamt of marrying Princess Diana would be just the perfect prey for Agbonyibo if he was really so inclined. Irikefe stopped and watched him. He looked like an accident victim who woke up and realized he could manage to walk. There was difficulty in movement. Pain mixed with shock. Achike opened the door and entered his room. He coud not dare to sit. He touched his shorts and saw that he was leaking semen and faeces together. He did not know it at the time but his anal sphincter had been damaged. What was he going to do now? Should he go to the hospital? What would he tell them? Should he report to the police? He could just imagine a conversation with a police officer: “Oga wetin you say happen to you?” “A man raped me.” “Talk am again.” “I said a man forced himself on me.” “Dem fvck you?” “I was raped.” “For where?” “Where I live.” “How him take rape you?” “He forced himself on me.” “Where hin fvck you?” “For goodness sake officer where would a homosexual attacker attack?” “You mean say man like you keep you for ground fvck you for nyash?” “Officer he is a rapist.” “Him use gun?” “No.” “Him use knife?” “No.” “Him beat you?” “Not quite.” “So him no beat you. Him no use gun. Him no use knife.” “He pinned me down with uncommon strength officer. It is still a mystery but I could not move a muscle and he sodomized me.” “Which style him do?” “What sort of stupid question is that?” “I wan know the style wey him do wey you no fit run as you no get power to fight, as you big reach.” “Officer, It is not difficult to accertain for a fact that I have been sodomised. My anus is leaking. I am not homosexual. Even if I was, this happened without my consent and when you are raped you don’t talk about style.” “Okay oga, see why I dey ask you. As I see the thing, the only way wey man fit put preek for another man nyash na from back, like doggy style. If person dey do you doggy style, you fit take off na. I no understand how you stand there dem hammer you finish den you come here come dey say yenyenyen den fvck my nyash.” Achike shook his head. Agbonyibo had lifted his two legs and bent him in two. He was first concerned with the weight of his thighs on his stomach as he could barely breath. Then for good thirty minutes the ape drilled his skywards anus with what felt like a hot pipe before pumping warm semen into him. After that Agbonyibo only said “Thank you my inlaw. If you dey go make you close the door.” He left Achike alone in the room and went to the toilet at the backyard. Agbonyibo saw Irikefe stopping to study Achike as Achike left the room. Agbonyibo did not like the look on the boy’s face. There was a gentle knock on the door and before he could open his mouth the door opened and Evae walked in. Achike shouted “Jesus!” and fell on his knees and brought his two hands together in supplication. “Please go. I beg you in the name of the mighty Jesus of Nazareth.” “My husband!” “Angel Michael!” Achike cried. “Chineke nyere m aka!” “What you say dear?” Evae said and moved closer to him. As she stretched her hand to touch him Achike passed out. Irikefe was restless. He needed to put his plans into action. But he needed an ally or two. Then he thought of Castro nd went over to their self contained. The boy was still jaded. This was not the Castro he knew. He asked his mother if he could have time alone with Castro. “So that you could tell him what?” “Aunty, you know that we young people have our own language.” “I am only stepping out because I intended to go and see Esther. If anything happens to my son you will see me.” “Nothing will happen to him ma” Irikefe assured her. When she left irikefe nudged Cstro and said “Yeye boy. Okay it is just the two of us. Talk to me man. Wetin dey do you? Wetin make you go drink sniper? You dey crase? You wan die?” Castro glared at him and then looked away. He was spread on his father’s armchair like an ancient tribal king, shirtless. He picked up a hand fan and started to fan himself. “I know you this boy. You just siddon here dey chop wetin you like. See as your belle don dey big. I know say na anything you want your mama dey give you. And your papa kuku be mugu before.” That brought light into his eyes and a smile to his lips. “Okay my guy. Snap out of this man. You were depressed. Sh*t happens. I know Evae had something to do with it.” “Please don’t mention that name,” Castro hissed. “The babe, her mother, and her father are demons" Irikefe said. Castro scoffed. “I know they trapped you. Your suicide attempt wasn’t ordinary. Now the question is, do you want to sit here in defeat and self-pity? Alright, I understand that being like this you can eat cow leg and salad and nkwobi every day if you want. But don’t get used to it man, soon your parents will be tired. Get up and fight. Don’t let that bitch and her family get away with it.” Irikefe could see Castro’s heart rate increasing though his bare chest. “Niggars like us don’t give up. How that crooked monkey go come from Burkina Faso come dey intimidate us for here? Who tell am say Naija dey carry lass? Guy, stand up make we do something. I get plan. Better plan wey you go like!” “Plan?” “Yes, plan. I know wetin I go do that bastard and him go take night run comot for this country.” “I want to kill Evae.” “Leave am. Make we take care of him papa.” “She destroyed me.” “She no destroy you anything.” “My dick no dey stand again.” “Talk true!” “I swear.” “She has to have the antidote. We have to get her and make her to restore it.” “And I will test it on her.” “E be like say you really wan die Castro." “I no go die. I go rub anointing oil before I do am.” “Badt guy!” “Na one pastor wey my mama and Esther bring bless the oil for me. E say make I dey use am rub the dick.” “You told him?” “I had to.” “Does your father know?” “I don’t talk to that goat.” “And your mum?” “How I go tell my mama dat kind thing?” Irikefe thought for a minute and said “Guy, you go drink beer?” “I don’t want to go out.” “Don’t be silly man!” “You get money?” “Yes.” “Where you thief am?” “You go drink abi you no go drink?” Castro stood and began to look for his shirt. “I will also tell you what my plan is for that crooked bastard Agbonyibo.” Mama Willy willy saw Irikefe and Castro marching out of the compound. Castro looked like his old self again. What did that rascal tell him? She was ashamed to realize that she was so glad to see Castro up again that it did not matter where they were going. They could even go to the club again and chase girls and do whatever they wanted. Anything, if it meant that her son was up and about again. “Praise the lord” she said and raised her hands to the heavens. That night was calm an breezy. They had light. There were no generator noises. The family met on the roof. The little canary could not wait to speak. “What did you do to him father?” “I am your king.” “What did you do to him?” “What you always knew I would do to him.” “You destroyed him.” “You exaggerate.” “What have you now done to me?” “You behaved out of character little princess. You are not supposed to enjoy being with him.” “I was in the flesh. He was good. You enjoy being with your men all the time.” “I have earned the right to. And I have no emotions.” “What do you call anger and jealousy?" "It is not the same thing." "I earned the right to enjoy being with him. I have always delivered.” “You are not yet ready.” “I have been fvcking men for you since I was eight!” “I say you are not yet ready. Your behavior now proves me right.” “Why were you not gentle? You were supposed to goad him into it. He was supposed to warm to it and accept it. But you pulverized him. He cannot even sit down now!" “He will be alright.” “I am not alright.” “You are losing focus.” “My king. That was the only man that made me feel that way. The others finish before they even begin and they will tell me it is because of my extreme beauty. I never knew I could feel that way.” “What does that mean?” “Let me have a normal life with him and I will still do your bidding as mum does.” “When does he start to deteriorate?” “Don’t change the topic.” “Answer me!” “Nothing will happen to him.” “Why?” “When I went to see him he fainted in my arms. Then I knew I had lost him. The least I could do was to cleanse him.” The little canary then felt a change in the atmosphere and looked up and saw that the large canary had turned into flames and produced extreme heat such that even when the volition came to flee back into her body it saw that it was devoid of all its essence under that intense heat. If they had left it alone at that moment, it knew that that would have been the end of its existence. It opened its wings and placed it’s beak on the zinc and said “I’m sorry my king. I am not worthy to be in your presence.” “If you go near him again you will never see the sun nor the moon again.” “As you wish my king.” “You will find another target.” “As you wish my king.” “Who is next?” “Mr. Kingsley. The one they call The Undertaker.” “Mr. Kingsley it is then.” TO BE CONTINUED. |
