Celebrities › Reality Show Star Found Dead After Suicide By Hanging by chaloner(op): 2:51am On Aug 16, 2013
“Bachelor” star Gia Allemand — who appeared on Season 14 of the show — is dead, a family member tells TMZ.

As we reported, the 29-year-old model had been hospitalized in New Orleans since Monday following what her family called a serious emergency medical event. The details surrounding the event are unclear, but it was announced that Allemand had been placed on life support.

Allemand’s mother and longtime boyfriend NBA player Ryan Anderson — of the New Orleans Pelicans — were at her side when she died.

Season 14 winner Vienna Girardi tells us, “Gia was a beautiful girl and an unbelievable friend. I’m shocked and can’t believe what happened to her. She seemed so happy, but you never know the demons people are fighting inside. I will never forget her and will miss my friend forever.”

Allemand’s boyfriend, Ryan Anderson, has released a statement … saying, “I’m deeply grateful for all the love and support we have received from family, friends and fans. Gia was the most beautiful person I knew inside and out and she always smiled and made everyone else around her smile.”

He continues, “She had such an amazing impact on my life and anyone that knew her was blessed. All I have left is to cherish those memories we made together and help perpetuate the many values, faith and love that we shared.”

Politics › Obasanjo - Nigeria Is Cursed, Criticized Atiku, Tinubu by chaloner(op): 12:19am On Aug 14, 2013
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has delivered what appears his most cynical but candid appraisal of Nigeria yet, speaking on Tuesday of a “cursed and jinxed” nation in a speech that also openly criticised his ex-deputy, Atiku Abubakar, and former governor of Lagos State, Bolq Tinubu, as “failed and corrupt”.

Obasanjo said Nigeria was probably “cursed and jinxed” since the country has for 53 years endured the misfortune of bad leaders, with none worthy of the commendation of Nigerians.

“The whole thing is not just about leadership,” he said. “If we talk about good leadership, you should also talk about good followers. If you talk about human right, you should also talk about human duties and obligations. It is sad that after 53 years of independence, we have no leader that we can commend. The problem in Africa is that when one person takes over, he would not see any good thing that his predecessor did. Let us condemn but with caution.”

He said if Nigerians were yet to commend a leader after 53 years of independence, “then we are jinxed and cursed; we should all go to hell.”

Obasanjo made the remarks in a keynote address at the 4th Annual Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit, organised by Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan, in collaboration with African Sustainable Development Network.

He categorised Atiku Abubakar, who worked with him for eight years, and Tinubu, as amongst the new generation of leaders who failed Nigerians because of corruption.

He also listed former governors of Bayelsa, Edo and Delta states, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, Lucky Igbinedion, and James Ibori respectively, in that category.

“We had some people who were under 50 years in leadership positions,” he said. “One of them was James Ibori, where is he today? One of them was Alamieyeseigha, where is he today? Lucky Igbinedion, where is he today? The youngest was the Speaker, (Salisu) Buhari; you can still recall what happened to him. You said Bola Tinubu is your master. What Buhari did was not anything worse than what Bola Tinubu did.

We got them impeached. But in this part of the world, some people covered up the other man. The man claimed he went to Government College, Ibadan, but the governor (Oyo State) went to Government College and packed all the documents so that they would not know that he did not go there. I wanted someone who would succeed me so I took Atiku. Within a year, I started seeing the type of man Atiku is. And you want me to get him there?”

Salisu is the former speaker of the House of Representatives who was removed from office for forging his academic certificates and claiming he attended the University of Toronto.

Alamieyeseigha was impeached and convicted for money laundering, while Igbinedion is also an ex-convict for same offense. Ibori is currently serving a jail term in UK prison for the same crime.

Obasanjo said only a little fraction of the younger generation of Nigerians criticising the current leadership, are themselves, better.

“Some of you who are condemning the leadership would get there tomorrow and it will be a different story. Only very few are actually good,” he said

Politics › Fashola Orders Sealed Kalu’s House Re-opened by chaloner(op): 12:04am On Aug 14, 2013
FORMER Governor of Abia State, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, and Lagos State government, Tuesday, disagreed over the reason for the sealing of Kalu’s property in Park View Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Meantime, Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola has ordered that the house be reopened.
While Kalu’s aide linked the sealing of the house to the criticism of Fashola by Kalu over the deportation of 72 residents of Lagos, who are of South East origin, the Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Fashola on Media, Hakeem Bello, said he believed the action has nothing to do with the alleged deportation of Igbos from Lagos.
According to him; “Fashola’s administration has no time for trivial matters.”
Emeka Obasi reacts
Reacting to the sealing of the Park View house of Kalu, his Special Adviser, Media, Emeka Obasi, said it was done as a revenge for the criticism of Kalu, who is the Coordinator of Njiko Igbo, a group fighting the cause of the South East.

Obasi said the property had been there for several years and that sealing it after just two weeks of his boss criticsing Fashola over the deportation issue was an indication that there was more to it.
Obasi said Kalu was not the only Igbo to have suffered such fate in Lagos State “after the wicked and ungodly act of deporting legitimate residents of Lagos State.”
He added, “Why is it that it is now that the property is being sealed, barely two weeks after my boss disagreed with the action of Fashola? We maintain our stand and this will not distract us from fighting for the people.
“The action of the Lagos State Government remains unconstitutional because every citizen of Nigeria has a right to live in any part of the country. Fashola should remember that the Igbo community constitutes about 35 per cent of registered voters in Lagos State and they should be treated like they matter in the scheme of things.”
Hakeem Bello comments
The Special Adviser to Governor Babatunde Fashola on Media, Hakeem Bello, when contacted, said he could not give any details on the development as he had not been briefed on the matter.
He, however, said that if the owner of the building had committed an infraction against any of the state laws, he or she should be ready to be sanctioned when the long arms of the law finally caught up with the him or her.
“ I don’t think it has anything to do with the alleged deportation of Igbos from Lagos. Fashola’s administration has no time for trivial matters,” he said

Politics › Jonathan’s 2015 Bid May Destroy Nigeria – APC by chaloner(op): 1:14am On Aug 11, 2013
By Gbenga Olarinoye
The newly registered All Progressive Congress (APC) has a warning for Nigerians: President Goodluck Jonathan’s purported re-election bid ahead of 2015 general elections may destroy the country.

“He (President Jonathan) treats national issues with levity. All he is concerned about is his third term. He has reduced Nigeria to kindergarten governance. This is dangerous and may destroy the nation”, Interim National Chairman of APC, Chief Adebisi Akande, said yesterday. He added: “Jonathan is the most powerful President in the world. He has all the powers arrogated to him, yet he is asking for more”.

Akande, a former governor of Osun State, buttressed his claim that the President is unfit for re-election with the allegation that he wrote two letters to the President as the National Chairman of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, on national issues, but Jonathan failed to reply.

“I did not see President Jonathan as a serious-minded person. Nigeria’s problem today is Jonathan. I wrote him twice when I was in office as National Chairman of the ACN on issues bordering on the state of the nation and, till date, he did not acknowledge the letters not to talk of replying”, the APC leader, who spoke while fielding questions from journalists on the state of the nation in Ila Orangun, Osun State, said.

He likened President Jonathan’s style of governance to that of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying the President keeps harassing anybody that stands on his way with anti-graft or security agencies.

Akande noted that the political crisis in Rivers State was as a result of the President’s ambition to remain in office beyond 2015.

On the quality of the person to flag the APC presidential ticket in the 2015 election, he said, “We want a thinking leadership in this country and not a kindergarten leader like Jonathan.”

The APC leader denied media reports that his party was not keen about the 2015 presidential election, saying he was misquoted

freecocoa: You must be really stupid especially for cursing your generations, ofcourse if you wrote waec at all you'd know that practicals start around march sef but its usually called may\june for that year and the next academic year, students are told to just write only the year for which the held is being held to make it easy for them as they may get confused but no, you'd rather claim ITK over what you know nada about, hediot.
