chic2pimp: Ofcourse it won't However I'd rather have my team go into tournament high on morale whilst posting one nil wins than go in low on confidence having played fantastic football. C'mon that's a silly logic as we all know the likes of Spain(recently) and Germany should never be counted out. The point I am trying to get across is that these teams are Beatable.
They don't need to score many goals. 1 nil wins in their next 6 games would do them just fine. Or How many goals do you think spain scored on their way to winning the World cup? 8. The so called "Best team and Most Beautiful team in the Universe" could only muster Eight goals. That tells me a Win is a win. With the way the dealt with spain when the two teams last met, their defence should do alright.
Yes they had some good players but this England team are most definitely better. Joe Hart for starters is much better than the white haired Dude they had in goal. Also as the Greeks and Chelsea showed, the best teams don't always win. 1-NIL wins would do the job nicely. Lastly the Greek did not play any Good football. All they did was bore teams into submission. I very well remember the likes of Lineker,Hansen et al complaining about how dire and negative their football was.
Why you no go fall asleep when you dey shack ogogoro+poli from dusk til dawn . England had the same run-in nto the last World Cup too. They cruised through their qualifying group and warm up matches Tourny started and the could only steal a narrow win against Slovenia. England can't hack it at the big stage - simple The only thing going for them is that no ones expects them to do well and probably the team might feel a little less pressure. |

chic2pimp: Can someone pls correct me if I'm wrong but didn't england just win both their warm up games whilst also keeping clean sheets? If England do a greece and win their next six games 1 nil, i'm willing to bet no England fan would give two hoots about the style of football they played. Spain who are Everybody's favourite struggled against the chinese last night( England's defence is much better)whilst Germany who are everyone's second favoured had their ass,..es handed to them by Switzerland. With a bit of luck England might just prove some of their doubters wrong.
Italy's has always had technically gifted players, players who actually string passes together. Infact we had more of them before than we do now. The only difference being unlike now we were blessed with an abundance of Great defenders to choose from and therefore we played to our strength. Defensive Solidity. Yh the defence of late has been shocking. Need to get back to the defensive solidity we showed during qualification. So you think the way they played against Norway and Belgium has any significance to what will happen in the Euros? They are called warm up matches for a reason. If we have to go by that logic, Spain and Germany who you claim have 'struggled' should not be seen as contenders then. The Irish team is now on a 14 match unbeaten run - lets see what they will do when the tourny starts. This English team can't score goals and let us wait until their defence gets tested. That Greek team that won the Euros had some good players back then - Stelios, Basinas, Zagorakis, Katsouranis etc were decent players, yes they over achieved but they were solid and played good footy. The last 2 games England played, I fell asleep and I don't think it was a coincidence. |

StarBoard: back up a few posts and you'll see my position hasn't changed. In my previous posts I mentioned M'Vila and/or Martinez for the midfield in particular. The Tiote response was for Mr TA who was clamoring for Modric/reaction to the Kagawa signing. I have nowhere said all we needed was Tiote.please don't manufacture statements for me. We stil need competition/cover for Evra at LB, a DM, a striker and probably a pure right back (jones is just a make-shift defender). My Tiote response wasn't for you, so no one is manufacturing statements for you. My question for you started where I mentioned your name - in the 3rd line. I should have put a paragraph. The reality is, we are not even interested or linked to all these players. I can't see Martinez coming here or M'Vila, the most realistic one is Tiote who is a player who recently signed like a 6 yr contract. Newcastle would request for a massive fee to let him go. Another realisation is the fact that I'm not even sure Fergie is looking to get in a DM (which is a shame). Fergie is too loyal and will entrust the position to Carrick once again next season. Fergie wont play a DM and Carrick since that is Carrick's primary role now. I see him playing Carrick and another CM/AM. We need bodies centrally, Fletcher, Scholes and Giggs can't be relied upon anymore for obvious reasons. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by chamotex(m): 2:19pm On Jun 05, 2012 |
afrodoc: kagawa is able to play ond right side of midfield or on d left side or off d main striker,he isnt a CM.so he is to compete wit young, nani n co. modric on d oda hand is a CM/deep playmaker so if we bought him he would compete wit scholes, cleverly n co. we can buy both and play both at d same time. concernin d DM any of of Mvila,Tiote n Martinez will do BUT not 2 of them at d same time. Kagawa's primary role is in midfield, central areas whether CM or AM, he is not bought to play out wide - we already have 3 competent players in that position. He played behind Lewandowski every time I saw Dortmund play last season. Can't see him playing on the wings unless injury strikes. And talking about injuries, am I the only one worried that we would cop a lot of injuries again this coming season? I hope I'm wrong but the stats in the last few years are not encouraging. |

afrodoc: i believe his club came out and denied having any agreement with swansea.it seems rodgers wants him at liverpool however so he is unlikely to come to us.anyways i believe its either kagawa or sigurdsson,i don't see both of them coming.either of them PLUS modric PLUS mvila/tiote/martinez.d striker n LB issues i am ambivalent about The deal is still on with Swansea, just that Liverpool have also entered the race because he hasn't signed the Swansea contract yet. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by chamotex(m): 1:42pm On Jun 05, 2012 |
Tiote is a fine player but cops too many yellows We need a disciplined player who isn't too rash. Starboard, previously you said we needed signings to compete . . . at least about 3 or more if I'm correct. Are you now saying all we need is a DM? We are very light in CM especially when injury strikes. |

Andrea Barzagli is a big doubt for Euro 2012..........Bloody Hell
This is Terrible news for the Azzuri if this is confirmed. He is literally our second best defender behind Chiellini.

All in all, we need a DM and a CM at least for the start of the season. |

afrodoc: United's rivals making waves early in d transfer market, hope our own moves will soon start delivering dividends.i guess one positive one can hold on to for now is that most of the preferred targets that United's fans believe the club needs are still available.i am talking about sigurdsson, modric, martinez,m'vila, tiote, alba, baines et al. so there is still time, the options are still there and hopefully so r d funds Is Sigurdsson still available?
