adeusolu: you see that you are also a supporter of Sharia across all of Nigeria as is Boko haram!!! Why does the nigerian constitution mentions islam, muslims, mosque hundred of times and not once does it make reference to christian or church or ogun or any other religion, before you call me a bigot let me say that the Nigerian constitution is the bigot!!! Nigeria is not a country for muslims it is a country for all. Don't you understand that every Muslim has the free choice to use Sharia or the regular courts? Sharia is not compulsory for any Muslim to accept even if there is social pressure. How does a system of justice that is voluntary for Muslims willing to subject themselves to Islamic law affect me as a Christian? If there are 2 Muslims having an issue in enugu and they decide to settle according to sharia principles, how does that affect their neighbours? Does it mean enugu has been islamised? The igbo communities in the North, do they not still arrange their affairs in line with their culture, from marriage to sharing property when a person dies? Don't the yorubas in the North still follow their traditions in such matters? We have our own traditions but we do not call them Christian because they existed before Christianity arrived. The Muslims chose to embrace Islamic law within the constraints of the constitution. Why should that trouble me? |

F22RAPTOR: first of all you are not a Christian....is Kaduna a country? we are talking about this country as a whole. GMB should publicly make that promise if not he is just a bloody pretender. we know abt his extremist views on issues of religion, so stop living in self denial. Ask the people in northern Iraq how Isis made them decide. You are somewhere in the neighbourhood of imbecility! ISIS is a radical group of Muslims slaughtering other muslims, who do not follow their own peculiar sect. Is Iraq not a majority Muslim country again? There are millions of hausa Christians in the North and bh has been killing both Muslim and Christian. Is it that only the deaths of Christians is of concern to you? Yet these communities will all survive because people do no give up their faiths easily. The problem is you see the president as a god who is able to do all things, and yet when we accuse Jonathan of docility and gross negligence, you still rush in to say other people to blame not him? GMB, is a member of a party, and the apc has a Christian as chairman, just as the chairman of the pdp is Muslim. Neither party has a manifesto that mentions anything about religionisation of anywhere. The apc is looking to discuss things that will move the country forward, like job creation, housing, education, security... Important issues that will impact the lives of the impoverished masses. So I guess u oppose Jonathan. But do you know buhari is a staunch support of sharia in Nigeria and a very conservative Muslim.
So how do u reconcile your stance on religion with your support for buhari I have no problem with any person that tries to be a good educated Christian or Muslim. Surprised? I do not see how that translates into forcible conversion or all the things you claim to fear. No matter the religion of our leaders, few have proved to be decent human beings. Obasanjo tried to change constitution to achieve third term and failed. How will anyone islamize or christianise any part of Nigeria? It is a ridiculous idea that you guys are selling on behalf of the pdp, who have few good arguments to explain why Jonathan needs 4 more more years to achieve... Nothing... After 4 yrs of... Nothing! |

tonytony208: mr irreparably myopic xtian (i really doubt if u are a xtian though), did you just said islamization of nigeria cannot affect the practice of my faith as a xtian? I just can't believe a man in the 21st century is asking such question; like a caveman in the stone age, who didn't have access to information. Have u heard of a country called Turkey? Well, turkey was a xtian nation in times past. But when it became islamized, only scanty number of xtians are left in the country. Do u know a country called Saudi arabia? Well, Saudi Arabia is an islamized nation. As a result, no xtian can practice his faith freely. There are xtians of course, but they cannot build churches. They are free to practice their faith in The SECRET OF THEIR ROOMS and no more.
Islamization means the constitution is islamic. It means xtians and people of other faiths can never stand for elective positions in the country. It means xtians are mere tenants and their landlords (muslims) can decide their faiths any which way they wants. It means only mosques will be built in campuses as official religious structure and no church will be allowed on government owned institutions.
Do you know a country called Australia? Australia is a xtianized nation. Muslims are treated as mere tenants there. The Australian prime minister categorically told muslims to get the hell out of Australia if they are not satisfied with the "christian status" of australia. This is exactly what xtians in Nigeria will experience if they ever vote for an islamizer (grandson of uthman dan fodio).
And for your information, kaduna is not islamized. Kaduna is still part of yet-to-be-islamized Nigeria, which is a secular nation.
So Mr. Caveman "christian", are you enlightened now? it is disgusting that you don't know these things; information is so rife in this age. So how come you are still commenting like an irredeemable blockhead? This is so silly, especially since you apparently have no idea of Turkey's history or the immigration debate in Australia. I remain confident that all your words are the work of a small mind with a bigoted agenda. |

The Jonathan Presidency begged Major General Buhari to settle the case with Reuben Abati and the Guardian out of court. 6. General Buhari obliged and settled out of court. When u say religion as a whole is not necessary in Nigeria then what u are preaching is atheism, then I will vehemently disagree. People can follow and must be free to follow any religion they like or none at all. But why must a 'state' have a religion? Can a parastatal have a religion? Will ministries next claim they have one? The states are meant to guarantee the freedom of every resident, even if he is a pagan in the opposition party. Religion is the private concern of people and should inform but not dictate government law or policy. Personally I'm sick of the religious hypocrisy of Nigerians. Can anyone leave his mobile phone or wallet for even 2 minutes in any church or mosque and hope to find it? |

Ifeann: You didn't appreciate the point I tried to raise. And what makes you think that if obj refused sharia that it would not have happened either way in the north. I have seen videos of Muslims proudly declaring that some streets of LONDON are under sharia law. They go around harassing people and calling themselves something along the lines of Muslim neigbourhood watch.
Islam is the problem. You cited the igbo case of inheritance. What u have to know is that that was driven by poverty and greed. What u forgot to mention is that the entire southern Nigeria had their terrible traditional practises which have almost entirely died out because of the missionaries and Christianity. However practises such as child marriage, stonings, amputations and even slavery is encouraged in Islam. And as long as there is Islam, even if sharia is not practised, there will be cases like this. The fine point I was trying to make is that a state of the federation of Nigeria cannot and should not be allowed to declare itself to have a religion. Whatever the religion. People were already using sharia if they wanted so why must the state make one religion non-negotiable? We all have practices in our cultures that would embarrass us similarly, and as for child sex issues, it is not just a northern problem. Many of these practices would reduce if poverty was decreasing, but instead it is increasing. When the first boko haram people were burning their certificates because of joblessness some of us were laughing. Now years later we still refuse to accept that poverty and idleness are the devil's best tools for recruitment. |

Some of you Buhari brigade members seem to be allergic to politeness. The presidency has many departments. Jonathan did not start it. Even when you god, Buhari, was in Dodan Barracks, there were many departments under his office. he had a 2iC (who had aides), he also had his own aides and he had departments that he wanted to oversee directly for optimal performance. The overall budget of all those units and departments is the budget of the presidency.
Is it huge? Yes it is and something should be don about it. If you looked at the budgets of 2013, 2014 and 2015, you will notice that the money allocated to the presidency is reducing. We will want it to reduce more. That is how it should be. If you argue this way, it is what we call constructive criticism. But if you come and make claims like the cost of the president's daughters' wedding blablabla which you do not know anything about and who even funded it, then, that is irresponsibility.
Learn to argue like a mature person. it's a virtue, not a vice. Excuses, excuses... Jonathan did not start it.... So bloody what? What has he improved, what has he changed? Where has he made a positive mark that ordinary people can feel and see? |

If they stand together there is nothing the opposition can do to block any bills or motions they propose. Tambuwal remains speaker, because he has enough friends in the pdp willing to vote for him, and the President is wary of being embarrassed if a vote to oust Tambuwal fails. How else do you think the NASS works. The majority party wins 99% of the time, so don't go blame shifting. |

Ifeann: You are correct that igbo traditional law was discriminatory. However igbo traditional is not supported by a religion. The religion of Islam accepts, condones and encourages child marriage. Everybody knows about Mohammed's "adventures" with 9 year old Aisha. As long as Muslims imitate Mohammed things like this will continue to happen. You're missing the point. Most of the North accepts sharia as their traditional law and custom. The constitution recognises everyone's traditional law but has started rejecting outdated and discriminatory practices, as in the igbo case. Obasanjo had an opportunity to challenge zamfara state when it declared sharia the religion of the state. I do not believe any state has that authority. But he did nothing, because pdp is all about election calculations, and whatever happens thereafter is not their business. |
