Aaargh....not again. Mr. Buhari please, this election is not about you. Its about us. What you have or don't have, what you are or are not is inconsequential to us.

It is about how you will 'make us' less corrupt, less religious, less sectional. Because in Nigeria leadership is highly overrated. As a maxim leader previously you've tried it but it didn't stick. You were accused of 'over-sabi' on one side and double standards on the other. I'm not sure in 2015 we Nigerians are totally fed up with our corrupt, evil ways, so....

We may elect you but may not follow your ideals so what is the point of these ceaseless acts of piety. Just tell me how to stop me from my evil ways oh General.

Truly this is one of the most honest posts I've ever seen on nairaland. We the people need to recognise our deficiencies and resolve to tackle them. By the time the police and judicial system start to work without partiality, most of us will check ourselves. We always cry for good leaders but even in church we do as we want. Do we actually faithfully understand and follow any faith, political ideology, anything at all? Our hypocrisy is stunning!

Understand me, sharia law is part of our constitutional law. But it is only for Muslims and even they can choose to settle matters in regular courts. Our traditional laws are also recognised by the constitution, but recently the Supreme Court ruled for the first time that it was unconstitutional to deny an igbo woman land inheritance rights based on igbo tradition. No Christian or Muslim is obliged to appear before a sharia court, and they are limited in their authority on criminal matters.

Truth be told Buhari is like a saint in the gallery of prominent Nigerian politicians. What baffles me most about him is his communication with people especially the Christians. By that I mean the past clamour for Sharia.

From the beginning Nigeria has always had sharia law, it is in the constitution. He only wanted it to be practised honestly in the zone where it applies and only between Muslims. It was under obasanjo that zamfara started claiming the states official religion is Islam, and non believers started to get harassed to wear hijab or not ride okada etc. Pdp did nothing to challenge that, and of course we know that sharia or whatever law, in Nigeria it is poor people that will suffer it's impact. Don't deceive yourself. Universities have 'catchment area' policy to favour indigenes, and I have seen too many people in private companies always hiring their same ethnicity. And of course we have federal character in our constitution. It is not a northern problem. Even in lagos and anambra they will ask where do you come from. Even in trade unions there is tribal rotation at the top. So what happens to we Nigerians who are not hausa yoruba or igbo? Why don't we accept excellence in anyone? It is mediocrity that has killed all our national industries...
