theV0ice:At his age, if he hasn't grown balls, there's no hope. Besides won't he and madam top the list, with obj coming second? |
EMANY01:Please explain and expand on your claim. Are we importing less rice. Less wheat, from which indomie, spaghetti etc are made? How much more sugar are we producing, or salt? Has a abakaliki /ofada rice flooded the nation? Is the price of cassava falling? Nothing was grudgingly admitted. Disposable incomes are falling and this Christmas provides enough evidence that people are tightening their belts to cope. I was passing ikoyi club and some artisans were laughing at the idea that they would travel for the holidays. One said what if they increase fuel prices and they get stuck in the village. Rebase the economy all night long but it has not added one naira to my income. The way business is now the customer is king. If you make shakara with your prices your competitor next door will thank God you sent customer to him. How is the agricultural policy affecting my life, please explain? |
oziegbe2015:Lolz. I got the same feeling too. Unfortunately only the West and North have political maturity so they see the advantage in cooperation. |
Unfortunately Nigerians like to sacrifice the underdogs. How many nairalanders have you seen express interest in investigating the sentenced soldiers claims? Apparently they lacked equipment and had no medical services attached to them. This is apart from the looted rice and other materials supplied by the state government. I am truly disgusted at the sentence because it is a case of the army elite trying to silence it's internal critics. The whole top brass, which one can lead men at the Battle front? Fat as stuffed pigs it is clear they never expected any serious challenge to disturb their path to retirement after fleecing the army. If bh is to be defeated we need to make sure our military chiefs are responsible and seasoned. If this government dares to execute one soldier in this case, well, God watches us all and I pray his vengeance is hard and swift. |
Can you imagine, a battalion that should have 750 men actually had less than 180! And the soldiers said they had no medical services attached? What kind of army is this? Where do they expect the wounded to go for treatment? |
gsalvatore:Look, if a president finds the work of leadership too much for him to handle, let him resign or get sacked at the polls. Why is it that we must tolerate ineffectual ministers, governors, councillors etc. They have seen how dumb and meek your response is to their foolishness, so they see no need to improve. I want bh crushed yesterday, and if it means that all the thieves in the army get sacked I don't bloody care. How can they be messing with the future of this country like that? Even MEND and the other militants, it was amnesty cash that was used to bribe them, they were not defeated by the army! Bh has rejected amnesty and cash and our leader's are confused by that. What happens when another group comes along knowing the army is not what it should be? |
enzony:When they were deceiving on behalf of Jonathan did we hear you complain? Hypocrisy |
It is sad and embarrassing that a foreigner has to remind our government that ever Nigerian life deserves equal protection. |
Gej the secret islamist? Has Asari Dokubo converted him? Lol |
gsalvatore:The very same soldiers have been praised for the previous successes against bh, so pls get your facts straight. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/173538-exclusive-inside-the-secret-military-trial-leading-to-death-sentence-for-54-soldiers.html The military cannot do as it pleases, because it is under civilian authority, and the commander in chief, is the president, no matter how you seek to absolve him of the responsibilities of his position. He is the supreme commander of the army, and this decision must have his approval. Understand this, I appreciate what the soldiers did. However there are two claims involved. The one claim being conveniently ignored by everyone is the soldiers allegation that they were poorly equipped. Will their deaths change that equation if it is true? As a responsible citizen I say that claim must be investigated. The security services collect the largest chunk of our annual budget, and it behoves us to see that it is wisely spent and can be accounted for. These soldiers have defeated bh in previous battles, and now they say they lack equipment and you are not interested! Wow. Ok. The army prosecutor did not deny their claim in court, he only called it a 'hollow excuse'. If we want to see a quick end to bh, we must make sure the army is in good condition, not just the fat cats that sit in air-conditioned offices sending people to the battle front without all they need to win. However strong or weak bh is, the army must answer as to why this task is taking so long, with so little apparent success. And the President must find those bh sympathisers he said are in his government and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. |
tuborme:You pose too many questionable points. Electricity prices have risen an will rise again this month, and yet the government itself has loaned money to the investors and criticised their lack of investment in the distribution network and generation. Even to supply meters to all consumers has proved beyond them. Your point is not well made. As for subsidy, why do you accept there is a subsidy in the first place? Explain how we subsidise our oil and I will come back. After how long with SureP is there any refinery working at over 40% capacity? No. Exactly what did China privatise in order to 'develop'? China is still essentially a state-directed economy, with the army very much involved and' friends' of government at the top of every industry. In spite of this China has a firm policy to develop itself to avoid overthrow by a restive jobless population. So they steal and develop technology and favour their own companies in every way. They have even forced Boeing and airbus to setup in the country if they want to sell their planes there. They also have a good education sector that produces quality workers. There is so much more... But contrast that with the lack of direction we have. Education is generally rubbish, cheap Chinese textiles have killed our textile industry, the Chinese are building our railways, we buy China phones and Huawei is the backbone of our telecoms infrastructure! We even contracted them to build our satellite, and we called it development! Sad to say but too many people want salary without work here, and we do nothing to promote or encourage efficiency in any sector. The government is the be all of the economy and even bankers and industrialists must bow before it. When in America, the president is happy to take photos with Bill Gates. I salute dangote for being the countries largest employer in the private sector, but we know how he got there, and his monopolistic tendencies are legend. As long as we have the wrong attitude and incoherent policies that mostly favour importation over local production, as long as we lack electricity, a quality judicial system, education system, what exactly are we hoping to 'develop'? |
WhiteTechnology:Agreed. I will tell you that I know people who supply major food outlets, and a few major consumers too. I know people who import clothing to sell. I am close to members of the national association of small scale manufacturers... Even in my business the response is the same, business is slow, and the market is price sensitive. A friend just lost a property letting deal because his rival persuaded his landlord to accept payment in two parts, 50% deferred. This is what we are facing daily. If you don't give a regular customer credit, he may disappear. I am actually in a better position than most, but I sympathise strongly with my fellows. The majority around me are feeling economic stress. Every blessed week I get calls and emails from job hunters, and you must have noticed how many jobs are now commission only or mostly commission based. Even your transport fare and feeding cannot be guaranteed. How can I be a good citizen if I can't see what others are going through? Come Christmas day lagos public transport will be choked by people taking advantage of the fare-free holiday. These are not signs of increasing prosperity. |
In all of Jesus's ministry, he did not expect people to pay or 'appreciate' him for hearing the word of God, except the lepers one of whom came to give thanks, and he asked where are the others. But he expected them to refrain from sin and follow God. Now churches sell special prayers and appointment with pastor. Where is the biblical backing. Jesus taught his own disciples to pray for 'daily bread' and not to worry about tomorrow because God who takes care of the birds of the air will surely see his followers through. Now we have turned it into, gradings of blessings according to wealth? That means Obasanjo is God's favourite Nigerian pastor abi? Jesus expected and never demanded any earthly reward because hie eyes were focused on his father's work. Today's Pastor's are focused on looking big according to Nigerian culture, and they pretend it's evidence of God's blessing. The life of Jesus fails to instruct them! Smdh |
inimes:It is sad that the man is a victim of our avaricious culture but he hasn't the intelligence to recognise it. You have really spoken well. The man has forgotten that Jesus said it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle.. . |
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-22105476 11 April 2013 Last updated at 08:55 GMT Nigeria's Boko Haram rejects Jonathan's amnesty idea The Nigerian Islamist group Boko Haram has rejected the idea of an amnesty. Last week President Goodluck Jonathan asked a high level team to look into the possibility of granting the militants a pardon. The announcement was made via an audio statement believed to be from the group's leader Abubakar Shekau. --------- Abeg Jonathan has offered them amnesty and cash and he did not say it was Buharis idea! Boko Haram declined the offer. |
gsalvatore:http://www.historyplace.com/worldwar2/defeat/attack-russia.htm I don't care to be sentimental about the issue. If the ceo of a major company made losses 1/2yrs running, he would be called on to explain to shareholders. If students in a good school keep failing certain subjects, the teachers and their methods would be examined. If a company's products poison the public, the executive in charge faces criminal action. Now we have an army that is failing in a major task, and your solution is to blame the labourers in the field? I hold a different opinion. |
Duru1:If the army is so wonderfully equipped why has Jonathan avoided Bauchi and Borno as if Ebola is there? An army is not just based on each man having one gun. They need local intelligence, rpg's, basic bulletproof vests, they need repair of equipment and medical services, they need food and lodging etc. They are on a national duty and anything they say they lack, they should get if it helps us defeat bh. It has been 3 long years now and you see how little progress has been made, but all you have are excuses for your idol. Please excuse me if I use my head properly. The police are notorious for running away from equally or better armed robbers. If they die aren't their widows thrown out of the barracks after a year if they are lucky. What do they get as death benefits? Is it paid promptly? Is there any incentive to put your life on the line defending law and order, when the government is ready to offer amnesty and cash to your murderers? The system needs an overhaul, and murdering foot soldiers is not where to begin. |
gsalvatore:Dumb as you are let me educate you on the Nazi invasion of Russia. The Germans were essentially defeated by the harsh Russian winter for which they were unprepared. It was only then the Russians were able to recover and fight back to push the Germans back. For years we have seen the largest chunk of our budget go to the security services and now that they are put to the test by a ragged bunch of heretics, our foot soldiers are saying they are short of weapons, ammunition, and logistic support and it does not occur to you that questions need to be asked? Even the states affected have been giving non-military assistance to the as they claim this is being diverted but you don't see any need to investigate? If the military is so brilliantly equipped why did Jonathan ask for another billion dollars to buy arms? Have they even located the Chibok girls, or is it not an American reconnaissance plane that is at the front of the search? Isn't it Jonathan that ran indoors to celebrate our independence day because of fear of boko haram, with all the security services at his disposal? Yet you want the poor foot soldiers of the Nigerian army to go to the battle front under-equipped? Do illustrate your stupidity further. |
stagger:Rubbish. Please go and face someone holding a gun when you have no bullets. It is stupid comments like yours that really rile me. You think these men have no family, no reason to want to stay alive? Jonathan has let everyone in government know looting is good business, now we can see the shambles our army has turned into, but instead of sacking the military bosses, you think it best they sacrifice the poor ground troops who have never had much in life? May God have the same portion of mercy on you as you have seen fit to give to your fellow countrymen. |
babyosisi:Your ignorance is well advertised. These are soldiers who protested being sent to battle boko haram with inadequate equipment, being sent to almost certain death, and you dare to make stupid ethnic remarks? Yet you will expect that even with their bare hands they should die defending idiots like you? Sentencing these soldiers to death is criminal, and their blood will be on Jonathans and the army chiefs heads. Most of these men have not even seen 30yrs of age, and you come in with your crudités. Shame on you. |
kaboninc:Saying that hampers have become a rare sight is not the same as saying they cannot be seen. Comprehension 101. And I am not talking about those hampers awaiting sale in the market. In a good year, Lagos is jammed from middle of November with shoppers, now fewer people travel and there is less shopping. The signs are all around even if you refuse to acknowledge them because you have an agenda. Times are hard for the average Nigerian. Trying to praise Jonathan for signs of increasing poverty is ridiculous. |
Dropped by for a good laugh. Thanks |
tuborme:This is amusing. So you imagine that a political party looking to distribute rice will go to Iddo or whatever market you imagine? When they have the phone numbers of the major importers at hand? Even the t-shirt and face caps, pens etc have been ordered from China already and will further stall demand in the local market. Sure food is an essential good, but what is the point of a product that does not sell out in December? Is it in January that we will have more money, or bills to meet. Electricity prices are rising, taxes are rising, where is all this disposable income you imagine people have? As for housing, please have a look at swathes of lekki and even ikoyi. Empty estates, empty apartment blocks, rents do not rise in this area, only service charges (after all who has a decent supply of electricity anywhere in Nigeria?) otherwise people will see better value elsewhere. Disposable income is being stretched under this government. At the end of the day, there is only a certain volume of rice we can eat, and if it comes free from politicians then the local marketers will be deprived of those customers. |
laurel03:Please let him bring the stolen money, we go take am buy shoe. But vote for him, God forbid. |
superstar1:Yes, someone had to try to take the discussion about a bridge off track. Stay on point. |
WhiteTechnology:Because if there was an excess of supply, then prices would drop. As it is many Nigerians have made their economies, few people dare to dream of Turkey for Christmas, decorations are barely selling, business is close to stagnant. This is what the government has reduced us to. Permanent managers of diminishing resources, while they gather 4bn at a dinner party to use for election spending! |
WhiteTechnology:Dude, do you understand basic economics and the laws of demand and supply? How can prices rise when the demand will drop as a consequence? |
Don't expect pdp supporters to have enough moral consciousness to object to this obscenity. Birds of a feather... |
tuborme:Please understand that there is little money in circulation and the average family has very little disposable income. In this atmosphere price rises are unthinkable because the demand for the product will collapse. In better years Nigerians have seen evidence of Christmas from the second week of November. Today given a chance many will even go to the office to avoid the attendant expenditure. Go and ask all the marketers how business is. My office is in a central part of the island, to spot a Christmas hamper has become a rare thing, printers are struggling to even find cards and calendars to print. How many people are sewing new clothes for Christmas? Please your argument is false and deceptive. People have little to spend so the market recognises that and keeps prices steady or even drops prices to stimulate business. Basic economics. |
The way billions are stolen under the present government, without negative consequences for the thieves, is disheartening. What kind of greed has possessed the souls of our leaders? Ndigbo, it is for you to lead the response. We cannot cry more than you from where we are. You have to check your leaders who always seem to prioritise their selfish interests over the good of the people. If you continue to tolerate it, we have to assume you find such gross corruption acceptable. |
Albishir:Did anyone steal more than baba sege himself? Hypocrite! |
Blackchampion:Lol, na suegbe u be so? Had Doyin decamped fearing the inevitable? |
