PoliticsRe: Anger In Military Over Amnesty Report by change49ja: 9:46am On Jun 08, 2015
Though I'm not really a fan of Amnesty International but I'm not surprised either. The military was at its lowest under Goodluck Jonathan. Imagine the torturing of an innocent 15year old brother of sergeant Koli. And what did the military do to punish the culprit Brig. Gen. Month? Nothing. Why? Because he was acting the president's script. Where is Fayose, Obanikoro etc. These guys with the military help arrested and tortured all the opposition leaders a day before the Ekiti election but today, Fayose is walking about with a stolen mandate.

Referenda have been used either as required by the national constitution, or requested by the executive, the legislative or groups of citizens, or by an international organization. They are called to advise or decide on pre-determined issues of major national importance.

At the international level, an international organization such as the League of Nations or the United Nations may request or authorize a referendum in order to allow the population of a territory or country to decide whether to join another country, or become independent, or to approve a constitution.

I cannot answer your questions Bro.

The question on the boundary of Biafra can only be determined by the confederation of Igbos and Igboid ethnic groups.

To be candid, the group needs a selfless leader like Zik, that can command the respect of the opposition with his intelligence, can sell snow to eskimos with his oratory power and has foresight enough to predict events of a decade to come as at now.

Presently, there is a dearth of quality leadership and this is actually needed to galvanise all for the actualisation of your dream.

The leader sees the future the followers cannot see and makes them to believe it and has enough charisma that oozes confidence, that will make people want to even follow him to the lions den.

With such a leader, more people, most especially igbos in other parts of Nigeria, will key into the dream.

With their level of exposure, education and investments in other parts of the country. You do not expect them to stake their lives and what they have worked for in their lifetime, to follow one tout or one never-to-do-well id1ot sitting down in one obscured room in Europe saying rubbish.

I cannot say what your economy will look like in 10years time after independence. If you are basing your economy on the China trading your people do, then you are in for a long thing. Trading does not sustain any country. For your information all trading activities in Lagos constitutes less than 1% of Lagos GDP (Lagos State Government website). That is the reason why people find your statements of we-developed-Lagos absurd and illogical
@Superstar1 I thought you're Igbo hence the reason why I asked you those questions, apologies.

You are an idiot. We don't want to be with you. Na by force? 99.99% of biafrans want biafra. If those people don't want to come back they can goto hell. What's your problem? Why drinking panadol for biafrans problem. Mad man
Can't you be civil for once. You said, "We don't want to be with you", who are the 'we' you're talking about? Did I say I want to be with 'you'?

IMO, they did not achieve it because they put the cart before the horse. They did not do their homework very well, before making the rash decision.

For such move of that calibre, international diplomacy and understanding ought to be the first move. Get a backing of a major super power, that can lobby at world stage on your behalf, which was never done.
I rest my case. You've said it all. Let me ask you some questions my friend, do you have an official record of what constitutes Biafra as of today? Do you know the boundaries of Biafra? Population of Biafra? Who are the leaders of Biafra? Imagine if Biafra gets its independence today, who are the likely people to lead Biafra? What's the economy of Biafra going to be like in the first 10 years of independence?

You see, these are the reasons why most Biafrans are not keying in into Biafra. Most people don't know what the future holds for them. You have to be able to convince Igbo millionaires in Ibadan as to what he'll gain by supporting Biafra.

I quite agree with you, but the fundamental problem is -- our constitution does not recognise referendum and the constitution of the land is supreme, where all actions derives their legality or illegality.

That is what we first need to insert into our constitution.

That was what killed the National Conference.

Once the constitution recognises referendum, the rest is as easy as ABC. All what one party needs is to evoke that part of the constitution. That was what made the Scottish referendum possible.

If you do not want war and bloodshed, then there is a need to find a solution to the constitutional quagmire we are in.
You're correct once again. It seems you're now following my line of arguments. Igbos had fought a war like South Sudan, Eritrea etc but the difference is that, while these countries achieved their objectives, Igbo didn't. Why? This is the main question. Will another Second Civil War enabled Igbos to achieve Biafra or is there an alternative?

Also, preceded by years of war with Ethiopia. Read up.
I liked your post 'coz you're right and I'm not denying that but they still had to fallback on referendum. That's the best way to go about it especially in these era. War is no more an option.
PoliticsRe: If Igbos Sincerely Want Biafra.... by change49ja(op): 4:55pm On Jun 04, 2015
In the case of Ukraine and other nations that forms the Soviet Union, though there wasn't a direct referendum but the minority nations like Ukraine within the Soviet Union demanded for the dissolution of the Soviet Union and Russia had no choice than to dissolve the Union.

check: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eritrean_independence_referendum,_1993

An independence referendum was held in Eritrea between 23 and 25 April 1993. The result was 99.83% in favour, with a 98.5% turnout.[1] Independence was declared on 27 April.

Another misinformation.

Eritrea and South Sudan fought wars with Ethiopia and Sudan respectively for years. Ukraine took advantage of the break up of the old beast USSR.

Scotland was able to achieve referendum, because UK constitution allows it. Nigeria does not.

How do you want to achieve it?
A referendum took place in Southern Sudan from 9 to 15 January 2011,[1] on whether the region should remain a part of Sudan or become independent.[2][3] The referendum was one of the consequences of the 2005 Naivasha Agreement between the Khartoum central government and the Sudan People's Liberation Army/Movement (SPLA/M).
PoliticsIf Igbos Sincerely Want Biafra.... by change49ja(op):
I believe if Igbos do really, seriously, genuinely and sincerely want Biafra nation, they will have it without a shot of gun. They do have all the human and material resources to achieve this. However, it seems the people leading the secession campaign have no clue as to what they want or how to go about it.

Moreover, with all due respect, it seems most Igbos would prefer to be in Nigeria than Biafra. I may be wrong but this is why a referendum is so important. Imagine, few months ago, the Scottish were demanding for their own country. They got a referendum but majority of Scots prefer not to leave UK.

Why I'm saying all these is that, if Igbos achieved Biafra by force through arms, it's most likely that, there might be an internal divisions among tribes, states within Biafra. This is why the way to go is through a referendum.

Unlike in the 60s, Nigeria now practice democracy today and I believe if Igbos unites and, with one voice demand for a referendum Via the United Nations, nothing can stop them. South Sudan did it, Eritrea did it, Ukrain did it, Scotland recently did it( though they fail but they're not giving up), 'Barcelonians' and some small towns are currently demanding for their own country in Spain. There are hundreds of nations within nations demanding for referendums in order to have their own countries.

So, people demanding for secession must always adhere to best option of separation which is PEACEFUL separation. This can always be done by first demanding for a REFERENDUM. Demanding for a referendum in order to determine whether to remain as part of a country or whether to secede is not a crime. What is a crime is when people take up arms to fight a democratic institution. This may lead to a full blown war and War is not a child's play.

"The governor said, “They have been dropping the
name of President Muhammadu Buhari as giving
them the backing to impeach me. How can an
Assembly, whose tenure will wind up on Thursday be
planning this.
I wonder why the issue of the past
should be allowed to come to play now."

I laughed at the bolded part. Fayose(an executive governor) single handedly sealed off the state assembly preventing the elected lawmakers from carrying out their duties and yet, he is still surprised as to why the legislators wanted to impeach him.

Why the Minister should fund SURE-P from the ECA is inexplicable, because it is a complete violation of the law and due process. In this regard, it is necessary that Dr. Okonjo-Iweala makes available to the nation SURE-P’s financial statements, indicating clearly the sources and uses of funds.

I want to believe this is a joke but if true, Buhari should be very very careful about his security. This is a breach of security on the part of British Airways if this is true.

David Cameron normally fly BA, does that mean I can just call BA to book me on the same flight with Cameron and book seat next to him? I don't believe this story.

If the new EFCC do their job very well they can recover at least $8B from those thieves. And with Buhari's policy of doing away with wastages, I think we can save another $7.5B. We can use these to service the debts for the next four years. Then the govt can concentrate on their core plans.

No thief will go free.
