Have gone through all the comments and I can only picked out some few enlightened ones. People should understand that not knowing what a thing is doesn't not necessarily entails that the thing is useless nor does it reduce the value of such a thing. Hence, we should try to have an open mind regarding something and not just jump into hasten conclusion and generalization.
Congratulations on your admission into the department of philosophy, I was once in your shoes just that I choose to study philosophy. Asking this very question implies that you will indeed have the boldness to ask difficult question, because philosophy itself start from "wonder". Now you are wondering, what will be the benefits of studying philosophy. Am a graduate of philosophy , I can attest that the way I reason and approach real life issues is different from the normal way people handle issues. The ability to solve problems and think beyond the box is what every organizations want. A problem solver, idealist, critical thinker.
Like what Socrates said "Man know thyself and unexamined life is not worth living ".

op,i have questions to ask you,you for gor that schooling is not education. you wont be t taught how to make money in school. i believe that you are better thwn what you were before you gained admission into school. you intellect and level of reasoning are more equip than you ususal self before gaining admission intp school except you are one of those people that pass through schook and school didnot pass through them. i wont trade my degree for anything in this world. you see the problem here. this is what existentialism will teach us. existence before essence. someone said God is love,my question here is that how can you know that God is love without knowing what love us. for yoy to be able to know that God is love this means that you already know what Love is. Come to think of it,we love God or gods because of the promises of enternal life and what we have read and have been thought. lets take for instance all these mentioned aboved does not exist. hiw can we then know what love is and that true love comes from God?
