It was like a drama on Saturday evening in Akure, the Ondo State capital as an officer of the Command of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), got the beating of his life from men of the Ondo State Police Command.

It was gathered that the free-for-all fight happened at Ado Junction, along
Akure/Owo Expressway at about 6pm, disrupting free flow of traffic for almost an hour .

According to an eyewitness, hot argument ensued between the two security agents when some policemen asked for the particulars of the unregistered car that the NSCDC officer was driving.

The eyewitness said all the policemen at the scene pounced on their fellow security man who had none of his colleagues around, adding that after the beating, he was allegedly handcuffed and taken to Ijapo Police station.

Commenting on the development, the State Public Relations Officer of
the NSCDC, Mr Kayode Balogun, said the officer, who was identified as
Inspector Seun was allegedly assaulted by the police officers of Ijapo
Division while coming from Abuja with a Volkswagen Golf Car on the fateful day.

Balogun who spoke with DailyPost on telephone explained that his officer was stopped by the policemen at Ado Junction who demanded for
the particulars of the car he was driving, saying his explanation on
his unregistered vehicle led to his thorough beating.


He narrated “Seun, was in uniform, returnimg from Abuja when the policemen at Ado Junction stopped him and asked for the particulars of his car. As he was trying to explain to them why he was yet to get the particulars from a Cooperative Society, through
which he bought the car, one of them just slapped him .”

“Before he knew what was happening, the rest of them had joined in the beating. After beating him, they tied him to his car with a handcuff,
tore his clothes, and detained him at Ijapo Police station” he added

However the Spokesman of the State Police Command, Mr Wole Ogodo, said it was the NSCDC officer that first slapped the police officer who demanded for his vehicle particulars .

Ogodo explained that as the NSCDC officer was stopped by the police officer on duty for driving an unregistered vehicle, the policeman requested for his vehicle papers. Instead of introducing himself, he challenged them to a fight.

He said “the Civil Defence officer was on mufti. The policemen did not know him, he was driving an unregistered vehicle and was stopped, and a policeman requested for the particulars of his vehicle, instead of introducing himself gently to the Corporal, he just slapped the Corporal to the extent of tearing his cloths.

“When other policemen on duty got there to settle the matter, he also
assaulted them.He was rude to even Senior Officers. That was why he was taken to the police station, having committed an offence,” Ogodo explained .

Meanwhile, as at press time, the matter was still at the Ijapo Police station, Akure, while Senior Officers of the two security outfits were said to have intervened in the matter.

Political appointees in Oyo state woke up to a rude shock on Monday as the state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, terminated their appointment during an executive council meeting held with them in his office in the morning.
Sources told PREMIUM TIMES  that none of the governor’s aides had any inkling  of the fate that awaited them until their boss made the announcement.
The governor, in a statement signed by the Director of Cabinet in the state’s civil service, Dotun Omokemi, confirmed the sack.
It was a total purge as all members of the state cabinet, including the secretary to the state government, Akin Olajide; Chief of Staff, Adeolu Akande; all the commissioners as well as special advisers were affected, leaving only the governor and his deputy, Moses Alake Adeyemo, behind.
The release  by the state government said the governor decided to do away with the former aides in order to create space for fresh blood he intends to inject into governance ‘in the quest to serve the state better’.
While thanking them for the services they rendered, Mr. Ajimobi directed all the sacked commissioners to hand over to the permanent secretaries in their various ministries.

President Goodluck has ordered immediate deployment of troops to volatile Nasarawa State, DailyPost has learnt.

The Director, Army Public Relations Department, Brigadier General Ibrahim Attahiru, told newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday that the troops would join the police to calm situation in the state.


It would be recalled that violent erupted Friday in the state, following clashes between two ethnic groups, where a number of persons were maimed.
