Its surprisingly easy 2 do it in a court.
Its not right but age restriction isn't used 2 screen best performers, but to help reduce number of applicants

Seen a lot of threads like this in the past, and been praying for a time when I will have a reason to post something like this.
I intend to use this thread to give God the glory for his faithfulness, and also stand as an evidence that it is indeed possible to have the coolest entry level job in one of the coolest multinational companies without any connection.
I started a 7 stage recruitment exercise with my coy some time in august. The information gotten on this platform was simply indispensable.
Nairaland gave me the opportunity of meeting some wonderful people that really helped in ways time will not permit me to mention. A bbm group for this recruitment was formed, and this brought us even closer smiley

So in my way of giving back to a platform that has helped me tremendously, I intend to give my own advice for folks still in the "favor" market wink

1) Attitude is everything
I learned a long time ago never to ask a failure for advice; They normally have nothing good to say. So the next time you are about to apply for that big job, and your friend who has failed 10 times comes to discourage you, give a him a good 10 mile radius and tell him you both answer different last names wink
Also, there may come a time when you start doubting yourself , when you start questioning whether you're really as good as you thought you where (I went thru such wilderness myself), change your mental attitude, it will determine the recruitment altitude you finally obtain.

2)know your problem
A problem known and fully understood is half solved. (Hehehehe well if your problem is from your village,... Then your on ya own oo grin)
But seriously though, borrowing a quote from Tzu Sun's art of war "ultimate victory is assured only when you fully understand yourself and your enemy". I have broken people with job challenges into different categories.

Application failures

People in this category don't get pass the initial application phase. There are number of different reasons for this, some of which include;
Poor cv or cover letter writing skills.
Lack of patience when filling or answering application essays.
Age limitation, etc and etc

My advice for any nysc member reading this is to start EARLY! I can't over emphasize this. I started applying for jobs 6 months to the end of my service year. Doing this gave me 6 months of trial and error to learn how to apply properly without pressure or the desperation that comes after nysc.

aptitude test drop outs

cry I sadly belonged to this class. Believe me when I say that exams are not really a true test of knowledge. Some people J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ do better in aptitude test than others I guess. If you fall into this category then you have your work cut out for you. I will suggest starting from scratch. Get your hands on all popular formats(NL can help you here). Then work work work because there is no substitute.

Interview drop outs

I discovered that while I was jonsing in my aptitude test there where certain monikas here on NL that where always getting to this stage in almost all threads I saw them in. I put these ones in this group. They scale thru the aptitude test with ease, but don't know what they do wrong in interviews.

But sadly I feel this group is much more difficult to solve than the previous category. I say this because whereas peeps with aptitude test problems can improve with constant practice, well I feel interview skills (communication, diction, natural intelligence, confidence, etc ) are not things you J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ "jack" over night but rather are things you develop over time and come to certain people naturally. Before this recruitment process, I hadn't had a single interview before, but I scaled through over 4 interview stages quite easily, stuff J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ came naturally.
assessment day drop outs

Here, its God all they way. If you can get to this stage in any recruitment process, then best know you're surrounded by the best. The only differentiating element is God and INFORMATION!! Read wide! Know the company like you've been working there for ages. Know the spirit of the company and what they stand for. And in all you do through out that day, try and let the company values or principle shine through

3) The God Factor
All I can say is what is yours is yours. Am sadly far from the most righteous person, but I could definitely see the hand of God in causing me to be one of 8 people selected from a pool of over 5000 applicants (including applicants from west africa, and from other parts of the globe).
final advice to undergraduates and serving corps members

To my corper wee!! Like I said earlier, start early. If you are J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ finding out how to write a cover letter one month after service, then something is really wrong with you!

To my undergrads, DON'T RUN AWAY FROM RESPONSIBILITY!!
I can't over stress this. You have no Work experience, so during your interview, all you have to fall back on is whatever things (leadership, teamwork ,etc) you learned through school or What you volunteered for.

Finally, if you know you don't have "THE CONNECTION", or "LONG LEG" or you can't finish with a 1st class, please try to leave with a 2-1.
The labour market is bloody. Even we with 2-1's are barely seeing enough elbow room and breathing space, how much so you with a 2-2 or 3rd class with no connection?

God bless and help us all as we push to the top
Iif u feel u are not strong enough, Well u better do!! As for me despite the number of threads and comments against women, it will never shake me from respecting and appreciating the few men that do not treat womenfolk as trash lipsrsealed

With this type of thinking that is how they will end up befriending their wife and marrying their girlfriend, when u judge and see all women in a certain light u can never find happiness because ur subconcious has been programmed to see us only in that way, goodluck finding happiness or better still port to being gay!!!

Anyway i believe it is silly and immature men put all women inthe same basket!! Still i give all benefit of doubt until proven wrong.
Negativity is contagious, and I was only highlighting the effect of NL on my subconscious, don't know where you got own analysis of me from . And if you read my post that you J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ quoted correctly you will not see anywhere I categorized women. As a matter of fact, you will see that I clearly stated I didn't even want to read op's categorization to begin with.
The truth is that women are different. And I have a single sister that reminds me of that. But they are very very rare.
And the majority of todays nigerian women fall in to one of the various categories of threads that are being portrayed.

if its only thing I ever teach my female child tomorrow, its the place of contentment!
Its that single ingredient that most of our ladies lack today.
RomanceRe: Silly Things Some Girls Do by chessguru1(m): 10:25pm On Dec 16, 2013
Didn't really read the op's post, becos I must confess all these negative threads (though being very very true is most cases) are seriously affecting the way I see women.
Over the past few weeks, I have notice an increase in resentment (for no reason o!)when I think of women.
Also, a massive decrease in respect for girls of today (its clear our mothers are women form a very different era)
And I blame this on the massive influx of thread Like this. Am slowly becoming a sexist, and NL is causing it and I don't like it.
So yeah, am gonna be avoiding threads like this for now.

Didn't apply for this particular position, and ave not really been following this thread much, but I have a word for peeps that didn't make it...
baker Hughes isn't really that Good a place to work, and consider this info from an inside source.
Back. When I did my internship in BJ services (before baker acquired them), the perception my superiors had of the company Wasn't the best. Their major angle was the absence of union in BH and the voicelessness of BH employees . The fact even after they absorbed all our senior engineers and none stayed with the company but moved to other servicing coys also paints a certain picture.
Searching online (glassdoors.com) for peoples take on the company also validates my opinion, then add their odd human resource department to the mix.
I honestly believe that there are better places out there, and sometimes disappointments are J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ lessons given to us to prepare us for the main package God has in store.
All things been equal, BH is a world class company, but left to me,if given a choice btw BH and any other international servicing company....BH will not be top of my list

I know you have probably heard this before. But there might be one or two desperate job searchers that may still fall pray to this rouge website.
I joined this website earlier on this year thinking I was joining something like hotnigerianjob or jobber'man, but to my greatest bewilderment, I had J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ handed my email addy to the scam central of nigeria!
Of all my email accounts I have ever had, I have never seen the level of barrage of scam/spam messages as I have witnessed.
The 1st ones where the beautiful half cast babes with long stupid stories of how they are refugees in Sierra Leone or senegal. All with the same dumb story lines of how their fathers where killed in a coup, and how they are currently staying with a priest and how they need your help to retrieve their fathers billions.
Okay, I ignored that one. Then there was invitation to write online aptitude test. But u need 2 pay 3000 naira online with your atm before you can write it.
Then this latest one, struck a nerve angry got a mail telling me that I have been sent an etisalat job offer.
For wating nah!! For job wey I no applyhuh
Oya, the most annoying thing is that the link the mail said I should click to "download" the job offer links to a BLOG!
Hehehehehe I almost felt insulted for them not coming up with a better scam.
And am saying to myself, even a retardeen with half of his brain malfunctioning due to an overflow of "pap"couldn't possible fall for this.
I J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ clicked along to see the "etisalat blog", only to find that over 3,300 people had already liked the page and am like DAYUUUUM! shocked

Hahahahaha didn't bother reading after the 1st paragraph.
Nigeria!!! Bunch of clowns. I J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ knew that after the ASUU stunt, every tom, dick, and harry will want to go on strike.
After all, ASUU got fg to agree to all demands without a compromise.
They will claim they are fighting for their sectors, but the truth is they are fighting for themselves and the selfishness of their union.
Follow follow mentality.
Next up...National Association of Beggars grin

NB:
Pls abeg, who knows when engineers are going on strike too. Doctors are complaining and I don't know what we should be doing.
I have never seen a doctor writing aptitude test. They are one of the most employable set of people ave seen. Even in the university, they are given the most preferential treatment. The amount they make doing housmanship only ehh.grin
But It is said that the mistake of a doctor can kill a person, but the mistake of an engineer can kill millions. Yet you don't hear us making noise.
I assure you its not becos we lack a voice or ginger (something that is our natural trademark) but becos everyone CANNOT COMPLAIN and talk at the same time. And also as engineers, the end result of all we do is for the benefit of humanity (irrespective of the gains that may follow)..I believe its time doctors reassessed their moral stance and position if they are willing to let people die J̶̲̥̅̊u̶̲̥̅̊S̤̥̈̊τ̲̣̣̥ to gain whatever it is they claim to be fighting for
