BusinessRe: Elon Musk Adds $135 Billion To His Fortune, Now Has A Net Worth Of $1.3 Trillion by chijokz(m): 1:45pm On Jun 17
addictiv:
Who knew we would be seeing trillionaires in our lifetime. Before you know it, others will start crossing the 13 figure benchmark.

**UPDATE**

One thing people need to understand is this: wealth is not the same thing as cash. Some people say Elon Musk’s wealth is not real because it is not all sitting in a bank account. That is a poor understanding of how serious wealth works. The richest people in the world do not keep most of their wealth as cash. They keep it in ownership. Shares are wealth. Equity is wealth. Companies are wealth. Property is wealth. Assets are wealth.

If Musk wants to buy a $500 million private island, he does not need to have $500 million lying idle in his account. He can borrow against a small part of his equity, use that money to buy the island, and now he owns another asset. The same principle applies to houses, cars, private jets, yachts, companies, land, infrastructure or any major acquisition. He does not have to sell his shares unless he chooses to. His assets and net worth give him access to credit because lenders know there is real value behind the loan.
He can then service that loan from cash flow, business profits, salary, refinancing, or other income. And if his companies and investments continue growing faster than the cost of borrowing, he will still become richer overall while owning the asset.

That is the difference between cash thinking and asset thinking. Many people think buying something means money has disappeared. Wealthy people think differently. They look at assets, liabilities, collateral, cash flow, appreciation and control.

So no, Musk does not need billions sitting in a current account for his wealth to be real. His wealth is real enough for banks to lend against it. Real enough to buy assets. Real enough to attract investors. Real enough to create more financial power.
Paper wealth does not mean fake wealth. It means ownership. And ownership is one of the strongest forms of wealth in the world.
Exactly!
I applaud your logical and well articulated assertion.

Tinubu probably thinks everyone is as stupid as those close to him who always clap for every one of his gibberish.

“Let’s fact-check the president. He specifically mentioned suffering in Kenya.

Fuel prices in Kenya have remained the same throughout the war in Iran. No kobo was added as a result of the war. However, a liter of fuel there sells for 1,800 naira. Again, while the minimum wage in Nigeria is ₦70,000, Kenya’s minimum wage is a little above ₦170,000. So, Kenya’s minimum wage is more than twice Nigeria’s. The average Kenya don't have to buy Fuel, they, have 24hrs electricity and with N10,000 the average Kenyan Youth can Power their home for 1 month, electricity is cheap and basic for them.”

I have never seen incompetent fellows like this set of APC politicians. They dish out rubbish without minding the repercussions of their actions. Meanwhile, Kenya isn’t an oil-producing country but they are miles ahead of Nigeria.

This is reinforcement of failure. Only failures give excuses for everything and it has become the tradition of the Tinubu led administration.

This is all what Bola Ahmed Tinubu has to offer

stephenponti:
When I saw the Malta 🇲🇹 NNPC comment by Dangote, I suspected there was more to it. Our group decided to investigate further.

Our discovery was deeply shocking.

Thread !

#EndBadGovernanceInNigeria

Firstly I will breakdown the whole Oil theft process and how Oil exporting and importing business works here in Nigeria .
NNPC grants importation licenses to a select group of oil companies, which are responsible for importing petroleum products into the country. These companies set the prices for petroleum products, and the media often refer to them as "oil marketers."

We’ve another set responsible for exporting/selling unrefined petroleum products both locally nd internationally. NNPC nd few partner companies plays a major role in this sector, along with high-ranking govt officials, military leaders, & politicians who r involved in oil theft.

To better understand this thread i will briefly explain how oil exportation and importation works in Nigeria.
Please note every point I will list you will need them as reference as we progress, very important

1. Extraction: Oil is extracted from the ground using drilling rigs.

2. Processing: The crude oil is exported(internationally) to refineries where it is processed into refined products

3. Transportation: The processed oil are transported from the refinery to storage tanks, blending facilities, and ports, typically via pipelines or ships.
4. Export: At the port, the oil is loaded onto tankers or other vessels and shipped to Nigeria and other countries
5. Sale: The oil is sold to buyers in Nigeria at a price set by the importer (oil marketer). The government subsidizes a significant portion of the oil price to make it more affordable for citizens, a practice known as fuel subsidy.
Now let’s link the list together

Recently, Oando PLC announced the approval to acquire 100% of Nigerian Agip Oil Company. This effectively means that the Tinubu family now owns Agip Oil, which is part of Eni S.p.A., an Italian multinational oil and gas company.

Agip Oil operates 17 onshore oil blocks and produces 11 million barrels of oil and condensates annually, and it also manages the Bonny natural gas liquefaction plant. One might wonder why such a successful company would divest 100% of such a critical asset.

Observing similar situations, like the case with Dangote, suggests that this sale was not made lightly. Now, these crucial oil fields and plants in Nigeria are under the control of Tinubu through Oando PLC which is Tinubu’s family owned not even NNPC.

Stay with me please

Continuing, with their control over substantial oil reserves in the Niger Delta and the ability to explore further through Agip Oil, their next step is refining. Instead of building a refinery in Nigeria, they opted to construct one in Malta 🇲🇹.

This move allows them to exploit the country's resources and obscure their activities.

In early 2021, Enemed Co Ltd, the leading fuel supplier in Malta, issued a tender for the leasing of storage tanks and a blending facility at the Ras Hanzir Oil Terminal in Malta.

Ras Hanzir Oil Terminal Limited won the bidding. It is owned and operated by the Tinubu family, with Wale Tinubu, who is also the chairman of Oando PLC, serving as its chairman along with other members of the Tinubu family and their associates.

The company has already established a functioning refinery in Malta, they have now acquired the storage tanks and blending facility oil terminals, which were recently exposed to the public.

Stay with me please

After Tinubu was sworn in as president, his first major move was to announce the removal of fuel subsidy, while the government continued to pay in secret, allowing him to increase petroleum product prices. This move was designed to benefit his own monopoly.

With the recent forced acquisition of Agip Oil by Oando PLC, Tinubu as an individual has become the largest oil exporter, explorer, and marketer in the whole country, second only to NNPC.
Here’s the pattern: Tinubu, through NNPC, will sell Nigeria’s oil to himself at a low price via his company in Malta. He will also explore, extract and export oil using his newly acquired Agip Oil Company, which operates across the Niger Delta states of Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa,
I’mRivers, Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River.

Tinubu will then buy back the refined oil from his company in Malta through NNPC and as an oil marketer via one of his companies OVH Energy(Oando) at a higher price and export them back to Nigeria
The refined oil is sold to the Nigerian public at a high price, while the subsidy, although officially removed, is still being paid secretly. Essentially, Tinubu is paying himself subsidy.‼️

This scheme an extraordinary level of financial exploitation

Even after he leaves office, and Nigeria remains without refinery which he will make sure of, his Oil Monopoly over the country will remain standing. As if that is not enough, the govt will still pay him for subsidy!

He sold Over 2 Billion Dollars worth of petroleum products to Nigeria through the Malta refinery just in 2023 alone, that’s an example of what the future of Nigeria Oil importation will look like

That’s why he will fight the Dangote refinery with everything he has; if it becomes operational, his multi-trillion-naira oil monopoly enterprise will collapse.

The price of petroleum products like fuel will keeping increasing, while he still pays himself subsidy.

Considering his age, one might wonder what he needs all this money for, other than sheer greed. It's truly disheartening.

Copied.
I applaud your objective and investigative writeup. Great job.
BusinessRe: What exactly Is The Benefit Of Floating The Naira? by chijokz(m): 2:27pm On Feb 14, 2024
Genius100:
Look at what happened in the last few years when for example, official rate was N450 and parallel rate was N800. Nigeria essentially restricted the people that could get the dollar at N450. What that means is that there is a thriving black market where the rates are much higher. First, International airlines that sold tickets in Naira and wanted to convert their money to Dollars to take it back to their country could not do so because CBN did not have enough dollars to give them. Nigeria became the number 1 country where airlines had their money stuck. So this puts the country in a situation where foreign entities would not want to invest in the country.

Now think about Diasporan remittances which is supposed to be over $20 billion a year. This money will never come through the official changes because no one will change dollars for N450 when parallel rate is N800. So consequently, the CBN reserves became very low. With low forex reserves, the Country was in a position where we almost could not pay our foreign debt back which constitutes is a death sentence to the economy, if we default.

Also, the Diasporan remittances never made it into the country. It was being held by certain Fintech and their partner banks in Nigeria. They hoarded it which made dollars more scarce and led to Naira continuing to lose value. They were seeing crazy gains while the rest of the country suffered.

Compare that to when you float. The official rates and parallel rates are largely harmonized. Now Diasporans can send money through officially licensed IMTOs. These IMTOs will give the CBN a certain percentage of the dollars- let's say 50% - That amounts to about $10 billion.

Second, the people that were speculating and hoarding millions of dollars for gains, now can no longer make arbitrage money because there is no longer substantial difference in rates between official and parallel. Those dollars can now go to productive activity. Last, foreign companies now know they can get their money in and out of the country which will spur investments.

Ultimately, floating allows CBN to grow its reserves, which allows Nigeria to service debts and also procure additional low interest debt that can be used for the desperately needed capital investments in the country.
Well articulated and laid out logically.
Great job.

BusinessRe: JP Morgan Projects N850/$ By December by chijokz(m): 11:56pm On Nov 02, 2023
socialmediaman:
Let's test this projection:

1. Price of oil will stay up because of the conflicts in the middle east and eastern europe, which should be an advantage to Nigeria. The problem, however, is that Nigeria has swapped a lot of crude oil for advance payment, so this may not really make much impact

2. After what Buhari did in the last election, a lot of corrupt money will be in USD under lock and key permanently because politicians don't want to go through those problems again, so there will be continued demand pressure on USD

3. Nigeria exports very little and imports a lot, so USD inflow from business exports is not significant enough to drive down demand pressure on USD.

4. International remittances from abroad should ordinarily provide some liquidity, but the internal pressure from businessmen (importers), corrupt politicians, and JAPA people will continue to put demand pressure on the USD

5. USD has been rising against other currencies of the world not just the naira, if that trend continues, why will it crash against the naira?

6. Nigeria is a very corrupt country, policies rarely work, especially coming from a government with disputed legitimacy. Politicians are taking advantage of FX corrupt backdoor deals happening daily in the country, and I don't see this ending anytime soon

I think what happening is the usual rise of fall wedges while the currency is on its way up, as shown below

Verdict: We believe there is no solid evidence to back the claim that USD will crash against the naira
You're spot on and I applaud your logical and well articulated assertion.
