This market get some magic way e dey perform. I was happy selling my conoil in the range of #100-150.I can't believe it could hit #300 with thr #3.50 dividend .If not wale and his yeye management oando has no business presently below #500
I believe it also has to do with the fact they are one of the indigenous, earliest and dominant 6-7 Major oil marketers who purchase on Large scale especially now that local players are taken over the Oil sector generally, it's kind of rubbing off on Adenuga and these local connections over time can give him some credit and seamless deals..

just surprised at the consistent liquidity these days.

Sigh! The moment you step outside of the gates of many of those homes, you are greeted, sometimes with mountains of trash and streets unkempt. No matter where you go in Nigeria, the sights are just depressing when you consider it could easily have been a lot better in many of those places if the people would for once try borrowing some sense of community. 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩
I agree..its everywhere in this country. Most just look isolated from the community as though there are different countries.
TravelRe: This Is What My Village Look Like - Photos by chimex38: 1:00am On Dec 07, 2024
Economic activities is what makes a village home.

bunches of individual private houses just makes it a house.

A house is literally meant to sleep-in and protects one from adverse weather condition..
In other words, it's just a place to exist.

A home is a place worth living..
We should aspire and endeavour to make our villages a home and not bunch of expensive aesthetic houses.

As naira they appreciate against dollars. Is it good or bad for buy out of wapco minority shareholders.
Pls your opinion
Since it's foreign entities, hence international transactions and deal started in $ and will end in $ Independent of the naira value;
I am afraid MTO price will be at the Prevailing exchange rate when it's due.

It may not be as good as expected if naira appreciates.

unfortunately I don't share your optimism....
We have more mouths to feed
we have acquired a consumerist taste beyond us

And most damaging, we still have a profligate govt.
Precedence has shown that these combinations do not result in a sustained desired outcome here.

one question for you....
What do you think happens to Nigeria when the Eurobonds get due
In as much as I want a better Naija..
The first highlight is a strong point..we've acquired unsustained standards.

2. On the Eurobond, I assumed in due time, the govt will convert these dollars within these few months to fund contracts and balance of 2024 budget
Thus flooding the market with Naira again..

The Eurobond might not even have to be due for a back slide.

I could be wrong on 2.
Make PH & DR dey export dey go sha, make we no turn Zimbabwe.

I doubt naira won't keep sliding against the dollars because of our huge dollar/euro bonds/loans.
They want to borrow more for 2024 budget deficits and 2025 budget is also planned for more dollars bond/loans raising.
I still don't know why countries are not managed like personal finance.
Naturally, you can't spend more than your salary else you will end up in jail or street and this is how country is meant to be run.
You have to run your budget according to what you have earned and forecast to end in a year. Not just borrowing to infinity.
If am earning 500k per month, the logical thing is to spend within my limit and if I want to collect a cooperative or loan from bank, they will run my present earning and give a fraction of what I will earn maybe in 5 years time.
10m loan payable in 5 years deducting 200k from my salary monthly. Not just reckless borrowing and borrowing from different parties - imo, world bank, afrim bank etc
Tor...i don reason this thing b4.

But seems Nigeria is like a rich man who's lavish lifestyle got exhausted within a few yrs. But being used to it, he has to keep borrowing to maintain such high standard to keep at par with the times.. After all, lender hasnt said no to borrowing....

You guys forgive me for my continued lack of understanding. I'm still seated well inside but im a bit more cautious. I understand they have a valuation of the Ultimate Target Company, that is $1.1-1.6bn but does that mean that is what will necessarily be paid or offered? I'm still yet to fully understand that part in the document, I can't see any mention of the final pricing.

We have pricing for the majority shareholder at about 105 per share based on the $838mn.

Also struggling to understand this line: "Considering the above different valuation methods, the Board views the pricing of the Acquisition as fair and reasonable", is this not referring to the above for the majority shareholder
A paragraph before that, they talked about "the value of 100% shares of the ultimate target company...."
This signifies to me that the valuation is for Major + Minor holders.

The Chinks don't have to sell to bring the price down. Immediately people see that the MTO is not imminent they will start damping. And don't forget the weaknesses of our Shareholder Associations.

Well the point I was trying to make it that people bought higher (#80+) into the excitement, and then the merger lingered and price dropped to below #50 even before the suspension. That was the reference I was trying to make.

Honestly, it is beginning to look like another DS/NS analysis- paralysis. That was how #150 valuation was flying around till it humbled everybody. grin
On DS/NS, the major difference is that it never materialised. So the Valuation was never tested for confirmation.

It would have been a humbling case if it merged and it didn't get to ₦150.

The fact that sentiments alone pushed it to almost ₦80 shows that ₦150 was as close as possible.

Besides the Valuation flying around then was more of ₦100 than ₦150.

EFFECT OF NAIRA DEVALUTION ON RETURN ON SHARES

The 10 years CAGR of naira/usd from 2013 to 2023 ( 160/usd to 760/usd) = 19%
The 10 years CAGR of naira/usd from 2014 to 2024 ( 180/usd to 1750/usd) = 29%
Which means, if you had converted your 1.6m naira to 1,000 dollars as investment in 2013 and changed back in 2023, you would have gotten 7.6m naira at rate of 19% increase per year or 17.5m naira in 2024 at the rate of 29% per year.
If you had invested the 1,000 dollars in dollar fund yielding 7.5% per annum (stanbic dollar fund rate), then it would have been 15.7m naira from 2013 and 36m naira from 2014.

if you had traded that same 1.6m in a fundamental sound stock from 2014 to 2024 e.g Okomu -
the 10 year CAGR from #35/2014 to #366/2024 = 30% per annum = 22m naira. If we factor in dividends yield of 5% for 10 years Cagr, then total return on investment will be 35% per annum = 32m
I like your angle to this..
Since the Eurobond is almost risk free, a better comparism will be an almost risk free
stock(like the Okomu you used)
But to reduce the selective bias as pointed out, the NSE30 or the NSE20 index can be used instead rather than the entire ASI.
