Celebrities / Re: Oprah Discriminates Against Rappers! by chinani(f): 4:09am On May 31, 2006
Man those self-aggrandizing Negroes need to get off Oprah. I don't appreciate them using the term "discriminate" since it's obviously not discrimination. As several posts have noted Oprah's had plenty of rappers, like Kanya, Luda-Luda, Will Smith (yes, he counts) and more, not too many more, but more.

It seems these men can't stand for anything of worth but they can stand against Oprah? Don't get me wrong, she's not a Saint but her show has a very clear theme that promotes women and encourages them to seek their "true" "inner selves".

I've watched enough of the program that I've heard her covertly & overtly criticize rappers and rap music for their messages. Now, what type of dumb hypocrite would she be if she turned 106 & Park on us and just let 50 sell CDs? Really with all this fuss she might have 1 or 2 on for a critical discussion. . .that I'd pay to see. But I don't think any of those men would want to hear the truth according to Oprah. She might accuse them of discrimination. wink

@Ciaralover
One thing we all need to realize is that media is often more powerful than textbooks. Oprah is viewed in. .how many countries? What she puts out changes people's idea just like rappers. When I was in college - gosh now I feel old undecided - I would meet Germans, Aussies, foreign exchange kids from ALL OVER THE WOLRD (literally) and I'd know like "you're Island's close to Fiji" or "Afrikaans's just bad Dutch" teasing and all they'd know about me is that I can shake my ass b/c I'm black. Lots of people will even admit that before coming to the US they think/thought all Black women were the chicken heads, bopping, Gold Diggers you see on BET. (The odd thing is they don't mean it in a "bad" why, it's just the way of the world to them.) No, rap music did not start womanizing or objectification or racism but why should rap music perpetuate it? And why do rappers have a right to be on Oprah? It's a free country sha.

Sorry about that. Do you stay in Afghanistan? I understand why you equate life to hell. It's a pity. Just endure. You will soon be free. I mean when your guy decides to strap some bombs to himself in order to spend eternity with some virgins in the great beyond grin grin grin grin grin grin
It's 10.47pm here in naija, I have to go pray to my God before going to bed. Cheers.
Gosh, I didn't mean it to sound that dramatic. Let me rephrase: I don't believe in Hell.

What I meant was: If Hell is the absence of God and (I think) the world operates w/o a second thought about God despite what ppl may say, then the world is Hell.

Some of you guys, the problem is that because you are opportuned to be based outside your motherland, you think where you are is equivalent to Heaven and as such, there ain't no Heaven. Please open your eyes and your mind!
Ohmygosh, it's so interesting that you just wrote that. B/c I think this life is hell and there is no hell.

who is?
Zahymaka? Who is he? I don't know if that's what you meant. But Zahymaka is on NL. He's quite interesting and very very intelligent. (17 and already in college.) He's tolerant and judicious. He's a brain so he might be lurking around the Politics or technology thread right about now. You'll know him when you see him.

Seun:

IAH, if you marry a non-believing husband, he has to be tolerant. Let us explore this issue of tolerance.

Does it mean he has to:
- Go to church with you from time to time?
- Let you take the children to church when they'll rather stay at home with him?
- Refrain from teaching the children about evolution or making them doubt the word of God?

It's possible to be tolerant when there are just two of you, but once you have children there'll be no more tolerance!
I know you asked IAH, but I thought I might also answer. I hope you don't mind.
a) He needn't go with me. I mean I don't think I can expect or demand that he goes when I know full well he doesn't believe before we're married. Bate & switch isn't fair. Of course, if I'm pregnant & need a driver, I think it's fair for me to ask. He can sing along.

b)Set up a schedule for the children I suppose. It's natural for kids to want to sleep in. But like 2 or 3 years ago I worked at a Sunday school and this one mother would come to drop off her 3, yes 3 sons, aged 5, 4, and like 15 months or whatever ALL BY HERSELF. Every Sunday. It wasn't easy b/c boys aren't easy. But she did it every Sunday, they were never late and the boys never complained about going to church. They just excepted that it was something they did with Mommy. "Daddy" was at the house doing whatever - the 5 yr old would give us a regular report.

c)I don't have a problem w/ teaching/learning evolution. The love of God is FAITH alone. If you can't learn about science and love God then I don't think you really love God. (My opinion)

But, like someone said, it's prolly not that easy. I know many Christian/Jewish families and they seem to do well but who really knows, right?
