Linda M.:

7. to Emmie4j: Please don't go to an Asian restaurant and separate your rice from the meat. This will certainly stand out! Americans eat their food together. Heard of "shepherd's pie"? Do Nigerians really separate their rice from meat? I can't even comprehend that! Yuk!
LOL, L.M. Yes Nigerians do that. But not all. I don't, but then again, I still do. grin I don't even remember asking "why?" when I was a kid and I was a questioner. It just always made sense to me, like saving the best for last.

I have a friend who once told me that his father would eat all his rice and then divide the meat on his plate amongst the children. (And these people weren't poor!) He says it was a way of sharing with the family & bringing them all together with a selfless act. I think that idea is odd & kind of sweet. (This friend by the way will not take the cherry from your sundae. He says "There are some gifts you do not take." The "some gifts" include meat in rice but Pops insisted.) grin

mamaput:

what Zarah, says is not ok but it is a fact..
The world has not changed. (Not in Nigeria)
Its only when the not wife starts making demands but she can always become a second wify
I wasn't debating the factual quality (is that a phrase?). But in my previous post I pointed out that the woman had less sexual freedom (per her post) and she responded as though I had misunderstood her. And I don't think I did. That's why I wrote the above post.
Culture / Re: Igbos Of SS/SE Nigeria by chinani(f): 7:31am On Jun 13, 2006
I just wanted to add that there are so so so many Igbo ppl that white ppl (men) would not have been able to change our "look". Consider the limited time and space. If this is true, then the ppl on the coast should be lighter than those as inland as Imo state, abi?

USnaijagirl, just realized you wrote "Imo state, the heart of Igbo land". LOL! I'm from ABIA! What, what! or should I say Igbo Kwenu? grin Anyhow, where you from in Imo mama?
Culture / Re: Igbos Of SS/SE Nigeria by chinani(f): 7:27am On Jun 13, 2006
I personally don't think it's a result of an admixture. I think some ppl are just light and some dark and some in-between etc.

One thing I've noticed is the number of Albino ppl. I'm Igbo so my experience is w/ Igbo ppl. Well I was a party once - must've been 10 or 11 - and I was like "who's that white lady?" and this girl - my new friend lol - goes "that's my aunt" and I was sooooo embarrassed b/c the lady turned around and I noticed she was Albino and not white. I apologized so much that time. BUt she was nice and said "It's ok, 3 of my aunts are that way". Come to find out that her grandparents had 5 daughter & 3 were albino. That's 60%! They also had a son who was not albino! Anyhow, the woman was married to an Igbo man & her children looked "mixed" w/ light skin - but not as light as you'd think - and one had blue eyes the other had hazel/blue eyes. Years later when I told my bio. teacher (in very general terms) she was like "That's not possible blah blah blah" b/c the kiddies aren't supposed to look like that or whatever.

So basically I think that some Igbo ppl have like a weird albino strain. I know. . .that's bad science but I'm believe it. cheesy

On another note, biologists always say that there is more biodiversity among Africans (ie Igbo & Yoruba) than between races (i.e., white Dutchman and black Zulu man). I believe this too. Meaning, we may have blue eyed, light skinned genes that are usually not expressed.

"A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle."
Originated by Irina Dunn, an Australian educator.
But popularized by Gloria Steinem, founder of National Organization for Women (NOW) and Ms. Magazine.
A leading (if not the quintessential) American feminist of the 20th century.
(Just wanted to attribute the quote.)

@ToyM2B
Please, can you tell us why we need to retain patriarchy in societies of the world. Please give examples. I'm not trying to be sarcastic. Thanks.

Zarah, I re-read and you stated (correct me if I'm wrong) it is alright to sleep w/ a married man but not if the woman is also married. . .which leads me to believe that men have more sexual freedom in your book. Man married = ok. Man married & woman married = not ok. The only difference being that the woman is married. I don't see where you're losing me. . .Anyhow, you stand by your word and so do I. Happily I stand. wink

Seun it's pretty clear that contestants are not employees. Your mistake (logically) is in comparing employees to contestants. I've noticed that the slippery slope is your friend. . .But your right the lion's share of the money should come from people being entertained not the help. . .hired help you would say 'cept they get no money.

K, gtg cook a late breakfast. Will be back to spar w/ you later. . .want me save you some bacon?

Oh now I see what you were trying to say. Interesting viewpoint. . .
Fashion / Re: Miss Planet Africa International by chinani(f): 5:01pm On Jun 09, 2006
I hear you Seun but all beauty contestants require money. You're a business man, abi? Well time is money. The time you spend preening, dieting, working out - I'm serious o! And the travel expenses, the doing lesser known pageants to get your name out there. One thing you may not realize is that most beauty pageants require a fee and once you've done (and/or) won several then you can/may get company sponsors but not so much before. I'm not so gung-ho about the Beauty contest thingy but money and beauty contests go hand in hand (it's not just this one).

Having said that $100 shocked USD For what? What is the prize It better be $101 USD. grin
Romance / Re: Is It Ok To Date An Engaged Man? by chinani(f): 4:51pm On Jun 09, 2006
@Zarah
So the only taboo relationship is one where the woman is married?? Dating a married man (or engaged one) isn't wrong but a married woman is

And to think, some people say woman are not also fools. grin
Fashion / Re: I Love Makeup! by chinani(f): 2:59am On Jun 09, 2006
You shouldlike you have really pretty eyelashes. Well here are my suggestions:

Light Foundation - a powder foundation that matches your skin tone
Black eyeliner - use it to line the upper and/or lower rims of your eyes. You can play with this. For instance, line only the upper eyelid (thinly) for day and your upper & lower eye lid at night on dates or occassions to add drama to your look. wink
Mascara - black mascara. You can start with non water proof Maybelline. I love that stuff. You can move on & experiment with more expensive stuff when you get the hang of it. Since your eyelashes are long, I'd only put mascara on your top eyelashes during the day or at least (if you do the bottoms) not too much so you don't look too dressed up. But it's whatever suits your tastes & style.
Blush - don't use the stuff. . .but I'm sure someone can tell you. I don't think it's really necessary for daily wear though.
Lip gloss or Lip colour - It should tint your lip - whatever color - deep plum or a bit chocolate. Shouldn't be too heavy or lipsticky.

Since you have thick eyelashes you should buy an eyelash comb so they are all going one direction when you apply mascara. wink Best wishes. cheesy

Career / Re: Female Boss or Male Boss? by chinani(f): 12:58am On Jun 09, 2006
I had a really bad experience with a female boss. I think women (in general) tend to like or dislike ppl they work with and then let there feelings show. If they like you, it's gravy, if not, then lipsrsealed. Males are more like whatever whether they like or dislike you.
Health / Re: My 23 Year Old Sister Just Tested Hiv Positive And Has Won American Visa. by chinani(f): 12:55am On Jun 09, 2006
Under_18, I'm so sorry to hear the news. I looked on the US State Dept site and didn't see anything about HIV status disqualifying ppl. I don't think that HIV status is considered. Here's a link:
http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1318.html

Believe me your sister is not the only immigrant who is HIV positive. Tell her to come to America if it is possible. Afeni is correct. With drugs & heath care she can live a long life. Once she is here she should test again (as Afeni said).

But main thing, be calm, supportive and go along as planned. Ok? Keep us updated please.

LOL Hotstepper! You'd think God only made 1 or 2 men for millions of women. wink

If y'all love each other then why isn't he engaged to you

My thought on one's love life is if you have to ask "is it ok?" then the answer must be "NO". If it was yes, you wouldn't need to ask.
