Rock music coo
@*morenike, well I do agree with you on the Tuface thingy. I used to like him but uhh,. . .homeboy got wack overnight. Anyway, I'm playing his song "African queen' next week in music class,. . .still a nice song and kind of has the african flavor, . .whatever that means.

@dreeldee, no problem.
Yea, when it comes to naija music. No offense but they sux
@*Morenike, dayum! How could you say that? This is the mentality we have which makes us to not know music from our culture. I know haitian-Americans who know and appreciate their music and I personally don't think their music is better than Nigeria's.

The only Nigerian music that are appreciated are usually the imported ones such as hip hop which a 5-yr old can tell you did not originate from Nigeria or Africa as a whole. If I write hip hop and r & b, what will the AAs now write? Or if I write reggae, what would the Jamaicans do? Man. . . I tire for naija people and their copy-copy. That's why I want the real nigerian music genres.

@yeah, to those of you who are here to have side-conversations, please, this isn't the place. So, y'all can kindly go to the "romance" section.

@Baro, thanks. I never heard of the "Ekasa" one but I got the rest.

Well, from the number of replies compared to the # of views, I can deduce that Nigeria never really had much music except the imported ones. So, I guess it wasn't really my fault for not knowing.

@A-40, yeah, I get what you're saying. I go like "wtf?" when I see other people creating threads talking bout "oh, they're leaving" but for menike, there's an exception. smiley we were tight but never talked outside of nairaland. Cuz I took off my contact from nairaland sometime last yr - couldn't deal with the "buggers". If he hadn't opened this thread, his "people" still won't know his whereabouts. Hope you get it now.

Music/RadioDifferent genres Of Nigerian Music by chiogo(op): 7:52pm On Sep 11, 2008
Hi y'all. At school today, we were asked to list as many as possible, the types of music from our culture.

That was when I realized that I didn't really know Nigerian music genres. Well, I mentioned a couple I've heard of such as fuji and juju although I don't really know what they sound like.

I could ask my parents but they'D probably give me only music from the igbo culture. I don't need it for school anymore but for knowledge of the Nigerian music and culture.

Hopefully, other people would learn from here.
Because one spends money on things that may seem trivial to others doesnt justify the "Nigeria is a third world nation and hence you should direct your money towards other goals" speech that is always and endlessly thrown in their faces.
Nobody said it's trivial but in this case, I absolutely believe that the "nigeria is a 3rd-world country" speech is in order. When poverty in Nigeria is mentioned, the first blame goes to the government, right? Go read my first post well and understand my point. If it was a Nigerian artist performing, most of 'em would probably never have bought the tickets to see the concert because it's a "local artist" but when they hear anything foreign, they jump out their butts. And yet, these foreign people continue to treat them like crap in their own country. What a shame!

@j-duck, like my brother once told me "boys ain't worth it". Likewise in your case, "girls ain't worth it", well, at this point in your life. Wtf? (Oops!) you're like 15 or something. You need to calm down for real, aiight?

Move on with your life. You'll see that in years to come you'll get to laugh about it, that you actually wanted to commit suicide over some douchebag. I'm not saying she's a douchebag(she might be). Anyway, in this life, nobody is worth dying for. At least that's what I think. Cuz like they say, "life goes on". She ain't going to die with you. Think about it and focus on other things, you know, like your education, planning for college, etc. You'll be aiight.

Anita who?? Don't even know her.

As for me, I can't even pay $10 to go see Beyonce. tsk!! some Americans do pay $500 and even more to see celebs.

Very stupid, if you ask me. tongue

What I don't understand is why people living in a third-world country like Nigeria would pay such to see some old-school american singer.

Later, they say the government is corrupt. These rich folks too need to start helping the country instead of always blaming the government.

Afterall, Bush didn't build all these "stop & shop" stores but people like Bill Gates, Oprah, etc. Rubbish!!!

I listened to him for the first time today. Well, if it's the same eldee who sings "I go yarn". That song is cool. I don't care if his other songs are wack. One song does it for me. He's real unlike most Nigerian rappers, that's why I don't listen to them.

So, @poster, you mean he's "back" like permanently or what??

Visits is more like it. Like visiting for a week or so, no problem with that. When you allow these people to stay too
