Must be something in the water. Here's another little brainiac!

BALTIMORE (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - He's not even old enough to drive, but a Maryland teen is now a college grad.

15-year-old Ty Hobson-Powell graduated from the University of Baltimore this past weekend.

WOW!!! Very impressive!! My kinda guy, too bad he's too young sad
Law school and medical school. He'd actually finish those and still be younger than many graduates with a bachelor's. Life must be easy for him, his family must be so proud.

Aww, thanks JeSoul, what a beautiful cake! Love it! And LOL @my "boos". You know Rondo is numero uno  cheesy

JeSoul:
LOL . . . kai! ppl dislike the Heat sha grin truth be told, they are drama queens. The "Cryami Heat" grin
LMAO@ the cryami heat.  grin See, I'm not the only one who doesn't like 'em.   cool

OKC and dallas game 1 tonight. Let the game begin!! Should be fun.
Sports / Re: NBA Season 2010/11 by chiogo(f): 10:27pm On May 16, 2011
YES!!! The teams I'm rooting for are on the winning side. Durantula and his boys beating the grizzlies, pheww that was a close one!
As for the East, it's easy. . I want LeBron and his cohorts to go DOWN!! *Evil laugh*  grin  1-0, 3 more to go!!

Ahhh for the West, it's kinda hard, have nothing against dallas but Durant is my boo  embarassed But Good luck to both teams, whoever wins is fine by me. Man, it's gonna be an interesting finals!! Oh and where is that BraveHeart of a person? CHI did make it to the finals tongue

@JeSoul, hope you had a wonderful birthday  kiss

Where is the question? The thread's title looks more like a statement.

Anyway, this topic is pretty funny. . .coming from the poster. cheesy Na wa oo.
Sports / Re: NBA Season 2010/11 by chiogo(f): 10:54pm On May 12, 2011
LOL@ Lakers fans! Abeg we no dey the same level  grin Anyway, I knew the Celts weren't gonna beat 'em 'cause let's be realistic, game 4 in boston which we lost sealed the deal for miami. Even if we had won yesterday, the chances of winning the series would still have been a long shot. Anyway, I hope the miami gra gra ends here, would hate to see 'em emerge EC champions  angry

JeSoul:

Lol. Why now? I wouldn't mind seeing the Heat win it all because LeBron deserves a ring - too bad wade and bosh will also benefit. LeBron is a good guy, he's played it straight his whole career and never gets into any trouble, he's been a model nba citizen and should get his due.
Nah, he's hella cocky and he wonders why he has no ring  tongue I actually would place Wade above him in terms of attitude basketball-wise(his personal life is another thing entirely) although I'm now beginning to see another side to him with what he pulled with Rondo in Boston. LeBron is no model NBA citizen. He, Wade, Kobe, Howard and the rest of the so-called "stars" get their share of favoritism from the refs. Now that they actually put us out, I'd hate it even more if they won the finals, abeg make OKC or even dallas take it, I don't care that they're in the west.
Sports / Re: NBA Season 2010/11 by chiogo(f): 6:06am On May 10, 2011
Chaiii celtics ooooo. Wasted important time from studying for finals to watch that OT. angry
Anyway, I knew this isn't their year. . . or the lakers'. Guess other teams should be allowed this time to fight for the championships. . .whoever wins is still not close to 17. Damn lakers woulda caught up but Thank God! grin

I really don't want the heat to win, grew a dislike for LeBron and Wade this past season and Bosh is just ugly. tongue "The real big three" my foot!

Abeg any other team but them could win the championship.

LOL@ all the people saying they finished high school at 16. Don't most Nigerians finish at that age? Those born in Nigeria anyway. The American school system does not let kids start school that early or skip grades(most Nigerians skip Pry. 6  grin) unless one is extra-ordinarily intelligent. So, this girl's case is unique since she was born here, I believe.

Anyway, I don't fully understand the article, why is she going to miss prom and some other stuff? Isn't she graduating with her peers? I agree it might be a bit difficult for her being a 15-yr-old freshman in college but she'll be fine, she seems sociable too. College students are a bit more mature than high school kids. From high school till now in college, I've always been younger than all my friends. It has its perks like knowing you'd be getting your undergrad degree at a younger age than average and moving on to higher degrees. Besides being legal to get alcohol, there are no special advantages to being 'older' and besides on a college campus, getting alcohol is not that difficult, under-age or not. Alcohol is def. not a priority, not even important, I'm sure to this girl. Different can be good.

Proud of the Mavericks by the way. Lakers in this situation is just very funny. LOL

SEFAGO:

I think you misconstrue my statement. First, I respect medicine. If you have a passion for it then pursue it. I dont like it when a child is forced to do something they have no interest in just because the parents can. In general, some immigrant parents have the tendency of pushing their kids into careers that these kids have no interest in because it makes money. MD/PhDs are usually 7-9 years actually after a first degree.

Ok, this girl loves neurobiology what if she had pushy parents who wanted her to be an engineer because it makes money? She would have been locked in a field she doesnt like. If she wants to be a doctor- very good for her, but she makes that choice, not her parents.
Seems you speak from personal experience? tongue Not all Nigerian parents 'push' their kids into medicine. How about these kids have actually always fancied the field? And understandably so just by looking at the Nigerian health system.

And what do you mean MD's are usually 7-9 years after a first degree?
As for Engineering, it's very unlikely Nigerian parents would push their daughter into that because of money. It's still a male-dominated profession even in the U.S. I don't think many females want to go into it anyway even without outside pressure/influences.
Politics / Re: 15-year-old Naija Girl Is Harvard/ivy-bound by chiogo(f): 9:53pm On May 06, 2011
WOW!!!!! I'm so proud of her!! Really impressive. And she's only 15. Still wondering why Yale didn't take her. Harvard is a great choice, the best choice, in my opinion. She's definitely a genius, her family must be so proud.

Private or pilot schools are def. the way.
Celebrities / Re: Dbanj To Marry Genny In August! by chiogo(f): 9:43pm On May 06, 2011
lol naija ppl are too funny!! "She's rotten" "Atiku has chopped her"
grin grin And ppl even giving their age and the status of their hymen to prove that genny is rotten. haha gotta love it. And how the hell is this like jay and beyonce? Beyonce is not older than Jay, Jay is older by about 12 yrs which is no where near the 1-3yrs difference between genny and d'banj.

@topic, na them sabi although I doubt that this story is true.
Celebrities / Re: Beyonce Booed On Met Gala Red Carpet by chiogo(f): 9:37pm On May 06, 2011
She def. forced it but it's typical Beyonce style like Spikedcylinder said, she's not a simple dresser. Pretty sure she's worn something similar, this is just a little different design and MUCH more TIGHT-FITTING.
Family / Re: Whose Name Should Come First On The Wedding Invitations? by chiogo(f): 9:15pm On May 06, 2011
Ndipe:

Ok, here is my input, if tradition says that a woman is wedding a man hence her name should come first (when in actuality, it's the man that weds the woman), I'd have to ask, why cant we put an end to such traditions? it's the man that is wedding the woman and not the other way round. Hence, his name comes first. I dont care if the norm of adding the woman's name first on the IV card has been around for donkey years, the right thing is for the man's name to come first. Haba, who is wedding who? Is it not the man? Is it not the father of the bride who is GIVING her away to the man? Lets apply common sense and forego tradition!
How does that translate to the man wedding the woman?

LOL NA WA OO. I thought couples wed each other, what's all this about the man wedding the woman? And the woman is doing what?  . . . . ?!

@OP, Congrats! Like others have said, it's a petty situation but I'll be a bit concerned about his stance on the issue. Did he actually say his way or no wedding?  undecided Most men don't even wanna be involved in stuff like cards and mostly leave such to the woman, from what I've heard cheesy. It's good you two are working together though but the stubbornness doesn't look too good. Anyway, Good luck!

haha wasn't that funny. . . just a bit. Mostly corny tongue Man, y'all are so petty.
So people like Joke Silva and Olu Jacobs who are even Nigerians? They're kinda old-school too. What do you say about them? I don't think they're muslims.

@Chyz*: Fair enough. . . differences in philosophy, I guess. For me, growing a large GDP is more important for third world nations. Focus on reducing inequality afterwards.

But yeah, economically, in no way is the SE ahead.
Yeah. I'm sure it's the same reason why they're still THIRD WORLD NATIONS. What's the point of a large GDP if it's of no usefulness to the citizens? That's like a school like harvard with all its endowments having poor equipments and inadequate resources for students.

But what do I know about politics. All I know is that MOST Nigerians live below the poverty line so what the heck?
Romance / Re: Blackberry Love Gals! Why The Prostitution Just To Have A Bb Pin? by chiogo(f): 3:38am On May 04, 2011
I don't understand the obsession with blackberry among naija gals. Heard there's even a nollywood movie on it.
Man, blackberry is not special at all. Rather have a 4G phone with a faster processor. But then I guess BB is hyped because of bbm.

Mrs.Chima:

They wants to believe that and in fact there are more women breadwinner ever before and yet they wants to beat their chest about surnames.  Smh.

Stone Cave Age in 2011.
Exactly. In that case, the pre-nup they keep yelling about won't be helping a broke-a/s/s 'man'.

omo_to_dun:

You either take your father's name or your husband's name or take them both. However you choose, it is still a man's world!
Man, you guys kill me. I'm sure men would love to live in this world of theirs by themselves.

Ahaahaha ^^ what does a pre-nup have to do with anything?
You talk like in every marriage, the man is always the bread-winner. Look around you, hun. It's 2011.

Princek12:

I guess your comment means that you agree that it applies to Christians.
Not necessarily. Just made that point because you said 'God'. What about people who have other spiritual beliefs? Don't they get married? Your theory wouldn't apply to them.

Princek12:

I never said that the women who keep their name are not unified with their husbands, but that symbolic act is absent.
Says who? I can equally use Christianity to justify the contrary. The bible does say that a man leaves his father and mother and cleaves unto his wife, doesn't it?  tongue

Princek12:

Like I said, it boils down to choice
Exactly. It is just that. A choice. Symbolic act or not.

Princek12:

So at the end of the day, the woman has to persuade her husband to consent to it or find a man who will consent to it. And assuming she finds no one who will consent to it, then that women should be prepared to stay single.
Well, obviously, there are men agreeing to it since there are many married women with hyphenated last names. It's not uncommon so what does that tell you? Just say that you personally won't go on with the marriage but MEN have and will continue to marry women who choose to keep their names. The whole 'remain single', 'Be like Oprah' song you've been singing is a bit ridiculous, like you make it seem like the end of the world. Maybe, just maybe not all men see the name thing as such a big deal worth canceling a marriage over.

And to the person you replied to saying that name means something to you. That is understandable. But in the same breath, you don't consider a woman's name is also important to her to want to keep it too?
Food / Re: Pure Water Has Been Banned by chiogo(f): 12:43am On May 04, 2011
lol thinking about it now, I wonder why it's called PURE water.  cheesy
I guess they're cheap and convenient esp under naija hot sun lol but I dunno if it's worth the typhoid like someone mentioned.

As for banning it, if truly the water is NOT PURE as I've now found out  tongue it should be banned but if not, sanitation on the people's part is really the issue. But then do they even put trash cans on the streets? That just leaves even right-thinking people with no option.
